Automatically Format Range Based On Formula Result Of Cells
May 16, 2009
The following code works perfect but the "change" event is only triggered when working directly on intersect range. Tried using the "calculation" event but could not figure it out. This is what I want:
1) To replace the code provided below using the calculation event
2) To only trigger the event for the row(s) where the new value was generated, not for the whole "For Each" statement
3) To use one single code for all worksheets, instead of copying the code in every working worksheet on the workbook, if feasible
4) And I would like a "second alternative", where the user of the workbook can click on a button and trigger the event on every row on the workbook that has a non empty cell within the intersect range, assuming that the intersect range column is the same for all worksheets
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim c As Range, d As Range, fc As Long, bc As Long, bf As Boolean
Set d = Intersect(Range("I:I"), Target)
If d Is Nothing Then Exit Sub
For Each c In d
Select Case UCase(c)
Case "C"
fc = 1: fb = True: bc = 4
Case "O"
fc = 2: fb = True: bc = 3
Case "D"
fc = 2: fb = True: bc = 46
Case "G"
fc = 2: fb = True: bc = 5..................

I'm looking to conditional format a cell/cells based on whether a formula result returns a whole number or not.
I don't want to include the formula in the sheet itself, just have that as the formula in the condition.
The formula will be along the lines of:
=IF(SUM(BB10/BA10)"a whole number",TRUE,FALSE)
My problem is, is that I don't know who to refer to "a whole number" in Excel formula language.

I'm using Excel 2007.
I have a field with a "YES"/"NO" drop-down box. There are three fields below which have some default formatting (thick purple dot-dot-dash borders). When the drop-down field is "YES", those three fields should change borders to a single thin black bottom border line.
OK... so that's the setup. And I should note here that it does in fact format properly. However, the problem I'm having is that the screen does not update / repaint with the new formatting. The thick purple dot-dot-dash borders remain, for the most part.
If I page down, then page back up, the new formatting appears just fine. When I switch from "YES" to "NO", again, the formatting changes, but the screen does not update/repaint so the only way to see the new formatting is to again... page up and then page down again.
I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to force the screen to repaint/update so that my users will see the new formatting without having to page up/down.

I am looking for VB code that will format a range of cells from a number format to a percentage format based on a reference cell. The reference cell is a drop down created from a list validation.
For example: If the reference cell (cell A1) =1 then cell range B2:C4 would be a number format. If A1 = 2 then cell range B2:C4 would be a percentage format.
I have searched for hours trying to find a relevant thread; I know they are out there, maybe I just wasn't typing in the correct search words.

I have a scorecard that looks something like this:
90% or greater=3
80%-89%=2
70%-79%=1
0%-69%=0
I need the "cell" to react accordingly and I'm lost.

Is there a way I can sum the result of a formula on a range of cells that meet a criteria? For example, I need to sum the difference of only the cells that are >46. (a1-46)+(b1-46)+(c1-46)...+(g1-46).
In this case the result I'm looking for is on row 2:
Is this possible to calculate in 1 cell only (h1)?

I'm stuck using Excel 2003 to auto-populate a cell.
I have a range of dates in five consecutive columns called:
Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4 and Phase 5
I enter the date that 'Phase 1' starts under the first header. Once Phase 2 starts I enter a date under 'Phase 2', and so on to Phase 5.
Each phase is consecutive to the next so will always be filled in from 1 to 5.
I want to create an additional column called 'Status' that shows the Column Title of the last phase with a date in it. For example, if Phase 1 to 3 had dates but 4 & 5 were blank, "Phase 3" would be displayed in the 'Status' column.
I've tried nesting some ISBLANK functions without any luck.

I have been tasked with creating a Macro in order to help speed up a rather simple set of steps that are taken to format a spreadsheet each day. The last step, however, is not so simple. I would like to add a statement to the macro code that does that following:
Based on the value of a specific cell, color the cell and all corresponding cells within the same row (from colums A to AA) yellow. Essentially, cells in column D may have a the value "No Allocation", and if they do, I will need to format that cell yellow as well as all the cells within the same row for the colume range A to AA.

I want to create a conditional format formula which is based on values in 2 cells.
Example:
Cell B1 = 100
Cell C1 = 50
I want a formule for cell A1 which turns red for exmaple when B1 is higher then 85 and Cell C1 is lower then 85. Only in this case the conditional format should work.

I would like to format the color of cell A1 on Sheet 1 based on true or false values from cell range A1:A10 on sheet 2. For instance:
1. If all cells on sheet 2 in range A1:A10 were false then cell A1 on sheet 1 would be red.
2. If some cells on sheet 2 in the range A1:A10 were false and some were true then cell A1 on sheet 1 would be yellow.
3. If all cells on sheet 2 in range A1:A10 were true then cell A1 on sheet 1 would be green.

I currently have an excel file set up which is refreshing imported data every minute from a server. This data is located on " sheet 1".
This data is the result of another system constantly monitoring (pulling data from) the process at my factory. It consists of temperatures, speeds and other settings.
When a temperature, speed or setting changes then it will be captured by the monitoring system and therefore my excel sheet will load it into the imported data within the next minute.
I would like to be able to capture the change in temperature, for example, if it goes into alarm and automatically send an email reporting this alarm. This alarm is captured in my imported data in a specific column with a 1. If it is out of alarm it is 0. There will not be a report of an item, at any one time, with both a 0 or 1... so there is only one case of any one monitored process.
I have a pivot table set up to filter all the uneeded data out and I currently refresh it manually to show the current status of all alarms. If an alarm occurs on the process, I can refresh my pivot table and it will be indicated with a 1 until it is refreshed again (and the alarm is gone).
So the question:
1. How can I refresh the pivot table automatically every x seconds?
2. How can I automatically send an email on the value change from 0 to 1 in case of an alarm?

I use a variance sheet to see the difference in numbers between an actual and planned date
If a planned date is not entered - the calculation must calculate from the start of the year because the figures are like this:
38948
Is there a way of saying in the formula, if both parts of calculation are not present, leave blank or something
For example this formula =IF(C31 > B31, 1, -1)*DATEDIF(MIN(B31:C31),MAX(B31:C31),"D")
It has a planned date and no actual so it puts like a 5 digit number in the variance cell!

4. If column J= "Open"
5. the select Celss from column B to J in that row and colour these cells in grey
4. Repeat for next row until you get to cell in column B where there is no data.
Recieve run time error 1004: Method 'RAnge of object_GLobal failed

Sheets("Risks").Select
Dim LastRow As Long
Dim i As Long
LastRow = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
For i = 8 To LastRow
If Range("J" & i).Value = "Closed" Then Range("B", "J" & i).Select
Selection.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
[code].....
Note: I've managed to do it for one cell ie for Column B by replacing "If Range("J" & i).Value = "Closed" Then Range("B", "J" & i).Select with "If Range("J" & i).Value = "Closed" Then Range("B" & i).Select" This works but only colours in cell in column B, how do i do this so it colours range of cells

I'm trying to write a macro that automatically italicize the a range of cells when you select a cell, and de-italicize it if you click it again. In this example, when select B12, the macro will automatically select B12:H12 and italize them. And if you select B12 again, it will automatically select B12:H12 and de-italize it.
This is what I have so far:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
MyAddress = ActiveCell.Row
If MyAddress > 11 And MyAddress < 159 Then
If Not Intersect(Columns(2), Target) Is Nothing Then
Intersect(Columns(2), Target).Resize(, 7).Select
End If
Select Case Target.Font.Italic
Case "True"
Target.Font.Italic = False
Case "False"
Target.Font.Italic = True
End Select
End If
End Sub
The code above does not work correctly.

I had a list of people on sheet1 of my workbook, and on sheet 2 a table with a list of names and their department.
I started off by wanting to use VLOOKUP within the conditional formatting feature of Excel to find anyone who worked in "finance" in sheet 2. I could get this formula to work on the sheet but as soon as I put it into the conditional format feature it wouldn't work.
Trying to find a work around I added a column in sheet 1 where I inputted the VLOOKUP formula and caused it to display "1" if the person worked in finance. It looked like this:
A: Person's name
B: Value of 1 or 0
The idea was to hide column B and use conditional formatting to say "if column B2 = 1 colour column A2 blue". Now I could get this to work on a single row but couldn't make it work over a range, ie. "if cells A2:A150 have a 1 in the column next to them colour the relevent cell blue"
I feel I'm missing the obvious. I found quite a few answers online but non actually specified how to get the conditional formatting to recognise the relevent cell it should be looking at in a range.
1) How would I get conditional formatting working over a range
2) Whether it is possible to use VLOOKUP within the conditional formatting function of Excel.

I have a problem with a calculation i am trying to do. I have to calculate holiday allocation for staff but i my company also offers length of service bonus days. After 5 years you get 1 extra day, after 10 years you get 2, after 15 you get 3 and so on. In my sheet i have a formula based on their start date that tells me their length of service in the following format: 10 years, 2 months.
I have put an IF Statement in for each of the different milestone criteria but the result is not coming back so i know i am missing something. Is there something wrong with the formula itself or is there a better one that will allow me to put the start and end of the range i want it to look at? For example can i tell it to say if between 5 years and 9 years 11 months put 1, if between 10 years and 14 years 11 months put 2 etc in column H.

I have Cell C63 in Worksheet 1 which is set up to say either "YES" or "NO" depending on whether a value on a different worksheet exceeds a value in an adjacent cell or not (also on that worksheet). The formula I am using is simply:
=IF('4. NORMALITY ASSESSMENT'!AC55>'4. NORMALITY ASSESSMENT'!AA55,"YES", "NO")
Essentially I don't want anything displayed if there are no data in the range C4:C54 on Worksheet 1. I thought I need a nested IF function but I couldn't get this to work.

myLastCell = Cells(myLastRow, 8).Address
myDynRange = myFirstCell & myLastCell

myDynRange = myFirstCell & myLastCell
my eventual aim is to do an average on this column with a line like
ActiveCell.Offset(Counter, 1).Value = Application.WorksheetFunction.average(myDynRange)
the reason why my range declaration is so strage is because i was trying to change the dimensions of the range with an offset function because i had many ranges to average but the offset function didnt want to work. this way goes like this....................
