Automation Error After Some Iterations?
Jun 11, 2014Creating a spreadsheet to inventory cups each day. When a macro was invoked do the following:
-unprotect the worksheet
-cut/paste the completed sheet below the current
-bring in the values form the previous day's inventory
-set protection on new spreadsheet to lock the cells
-blank out old values
-reprotect the worksheet
Pretty straightforward and seems to work fine for a few iterations, then crashes with "Run-time error '-2147417848 (80010108)': Automation error. The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.".
As FYI, this code was mostly generated using a record macro session, so no variables involved.

UserForm - Automation Error
Aug 5, 2008I created a UserForm (userform1) and added a label to it which essentially just says: "Pick a Colour"...
The other UF controls are added on the fly using the below code...however when I try to add the event to each button I get the Automation Error but I don't really understand how / why... the events are actually added to the VB project ok...

I added a dummy routine for test purposes which is to be invoked on click of UF button control (I have tried placing this code in a standard module, within UF module etc to no avail):

So to reiterate -- when I invoke the initialisation of the UF I get the following error:
Automation Error
The object invoked has disonnected from its clients
All events are added for each control.
If I remove the adding of the events I know the UF populates with the correct controls etc...

I think I know what's causing it but am not sure how to go about solving the problem.
Barring any inefficiences that the code below contains, can someone please tell me what code I should used to fix this error?

Jan 18, 2008I developed an Excel application for some users. Everything used to wrok very well until recently. When the click some buttons, the error "Automation Error: Object has disconnected from its clients" appears. Problem is, everything works very well on my PC. We run the same Excel version, same OS but I can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I'd have posted the code I'm running here but I don't know how to use the code tags and I don't want to be banned from this forum.

The project is the create checkboxes out of the tab names in a workbook. After that, create a new workbook with the selections made. It is at the point where I pass the array of sheets to be copied that the error occurs. The only thing I can figure is that my variable curWB is not what I think but I declare it to be the original workbook before that point. All of the code is below.
Another possibility is that this code with some other code sits in the worksheet called index. This sheet is being copied to the new workbook also.

May 21, 2014I get this error on clicking a button in userform1 to display the userform2 (userform2.show) , i checked with another form and it works .
if i click on button to show userform2 second time , it displays outline of form and on third time it displays the form correctly .
Excel 2013 :: Automation Error Exception Occurred?
Mar 25, 2014why a macro that works without a problem in Excel 2010 now crashes Excel 2013. The error produced says 'Automation Error Exception Occurred'. If I place a stop in the code and hold the F8 key down, the code runs perfectly (Excel 2013) but if I run it, it will crash. The code is copying a worksheet into a new workbook, adding 2 more worksheets, saving then emailing the workbook before closing. It goes through the routine about 7 times before crashing (sending only 7 email out). It's something to do with the email because I can bypass that code and it runs that part without a problem.
Our office just upgraded all the computers to Office 2013 and I've got to get this macro running again. I had to email 100 reports one-by-one today and I didn't like it.
VBA Excel Macro Generates (Automation Error) Randomly Using Office 365
Apr 10, 2014I have a VBA macro for automatically create a word report using data in Access and Excel. The macro is hosted within a Excel document but are using both Word-, Excel and Access objects/dataTtemplates for the creation.
The errors appears what it seems randomly. The macro iterates the same code a few times even in Office 365 but then it crashes. The most common error messages are:
Error 1:
Run-time error '-2147417851 (80010105)':
Automation error : The server threw an exception.
Error 2:
Run-time error '462':
The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable
Error 3:
This action cannot be completed because the application () is busy. Choose Switch To to activate and correct the problem.
(no options are working, this hang the application)
If I debug usually the error originates from the code where I ether close the workbook template I'm using:
excelWorkbook.Close False
... or when I paste a chart from Excel to the Word report:
wordDocument.ActiveWindow.Selection.PasteSpecial
Even more strange are that sometimes if I continue to run the macro its all working again. This ONLY happens when the client office installation is O365. Office 2013 works just fine. I thought O365 and Office 2013 was fairly equal?

Dec 1, 2009I am trying to do a very simple Macro for merging data. My problem is that the macro works when I am stepping through in debugger, but does not work when I am in excel and I use the shortcut key (crtl + m) to run the macro. What happens when it doesn't work properly is it selects rows 2 and 3 and tries to paste them to the new workbook and I get an error saying the cells are not the correct type. I don't want it to do this because rows 2 and 3 are titles and have nothing to do with the data I am moving. As I said before, when I open VBE and step through the code it works just fine. The error only happens when there is no data on the initial work sheet.

VBA Error Goto Previous Line / Statement Not Resume Next
Aug 10, 2012I have some code below. I have error handling in place for when it tries to open a specific file. If it isn't there then user has option to continue and ignore this file, or browse and select a new one.
The problem is, when the user wants to ignore the file, the "Resume Next" continues to run the VBA assuming the file was ok i.e. the code after the line to open the file. What I would like is for it to skip the succeeding code and go to look for the next file.

Nov 18, 2008I have a worksheet ('Matrix') that has a grid that is 40 rows x 40 columns. On another sheet ('Drivers') I have a two columned table where a user is enters two numbers between (you guessed it!) 1 and 40. What I'm trying to do is within the grid, have a "Y" appear on the crossing point as denoted by the table. I've tried a couple of experiments with MATCH, but I'm not getting very far.
I've attached an example document to make this a bit clearer and I've coloured the references on the 'Drivers' sheet to correspond to where they should appear on the 'Matrix' sheet. Sorry if that's a bit garbled. Let me know if you need any clarification.

Marking Cells Invisibly
Apr 5, 2007I am wondering what is a convenient way to invisibly mark off certain cells on a spreadsheet, so that VBA can later recognize that they are so marked, and thus treat them differently. I have a spreadsheet listing various farms that our hatchery purchases eggs from. I have a commandbutton on that sheet that opens up a userform, allowing the user to assign certain farms to participate in various breed tests. Ideally, when the user selects a farm for a breed test, the corresponding cell on the spreadsheet (containg that farm's name) will be marked in some invisible way. That way, when I run another macro, the code will be able to recognize that cell as marked, and treat it accordingly.
So, what is the favored way of marking a cell in a way that will remain invisible to the user? I know that there are plenty of properties that a cell has, many of which appear useless to me. Is it good protocol to adjust any of these as I like, or is there some method that is to be preferred?
Marking Rows With Certain Duplicate Values?
Jul 8, 2014So I am trying to mark certain rows as duplicates if their values in Columns J, AD and ABS(BD) match. J and AD contain Number letter Identification combinations and BD contains a value. I currently have a formula as shows that will mark all of these values:

The issue with this formula is that I do not want it to mark rows that look like this:

I have a lot of rows that will appear like this. Their sum in BD equals the absolute value of the value in BD. I thought this would get picked up using the SUMIFS portion of my formula but it is not. I cannot find the problem.

If a revision is marked as Y then previous revisions don;t need to be looked at and can be marked with n/a anything older doesn't need to be reviewed except for the latest one. In the above table if apples revision 2 has been viewed so rev 1, 3, and 4 are no longer relevant and only rev 5 needs to be reviewed. Pears rev 2 has been reviewed so on rev 4 needs to be reviewed. No Orange documents have been reviewed so only rev 3 needs to be reviewed.
The above is just an example my table consists of 8000 entries.
Combining Two Spreadsheets - Marking What Cells Have Been Pulled Over?

I have two reports, one from our credit card processor/gateway (Report "B") and one from our software where the daily sales (Report "A") are recorded. I used the INDEX/MATCH formula to pull the information I needed from Report "A" into Report "B". It worked perfectly. My question is, is there anyway that I can show what information has been pulled from Report "A"? Possibly by highlighting what was pulled over? It is a longshot, but it would make my life so much easier if it was possible...

In theory every record should be a match. I need to compare the lists and mark the people who are missing their monthly report in the main list of all employees.
Not sure how to set this up in Excel
Sheet 1: Column A - All employees names, Columns B-M: used to show whether a report has been submitted.
Sheet 2-13 (July, Aug., Sept., through June): Column A - employees who have submitted their report.
I need Sheet 1 to show either all of the missing records across all the months or it can show the ones that have been received. Either will work.

(currently i am using the value "Placeholder"). basically in column B i want to insert the iteration of the Place holder. the attached spreadsheet better illustrates what i am trying to do. starting the count at zero is kind of important, but not the end of the world if it is impossible.

Aug 18, 2008I want to reference a workbook that i mentioned quite a bit in my macro code. However, I want to be able to change this workbook by just changing one line of code rather than having to go into my rather long code to change it every time.
Here's what I have so far:

Set MyFile = ActiveWorkbook
Dim MyTarget As Workbook
Set MyTarget = windows("week 28 O.xls")
Then later in the code I have it reference MyTarget and MyFile.
MyFile opens the current workbook that I am creating and I was hoping that I could put MyTarget.Activate into every instance where it occurs and it would reference week 28 o.xls. (originally when I recorded this it had "week 28 O.xls".activate) So what I figured is that rather than having to go in and change the 28 to a 29 in every instance in the code (about 25 of them) I would just set MyTarget = ___ that way if I want to change to week 29 in all those instances I just have to change the 28 to a 29 in the set MyTarget line and then all the references to my target would apply to the new week 29.
However I'm getting an error at the Set MyTarget = windows("week 28 O.xls") line.
