Calculating Chart Values Over Large Ranges With Catagories

Nov 4, 2008

I am working on a custom log file for my company. It has 3 sheets and on each sheet is a service type column with drop downs and next to it an amount coumn. Every day that a service issue is requested someone goes in and chooses the service type from the drop down and enters the amount in USD. I want to add charts to the top of each sheet and on the axis i want to have service type and then the total amount spent on that catagory.

Calculating Multiple Comparisons Over Large Sample

I have a sample of aproxomatly 30,000 records, and I am working to do some data analysis on it.

I am comparing multiple fields using sumproduct(), but if I go above two criteria, the calculation time becomes incredibly long. Is there a faster way to preform these large comparisons, or am I stuck watching my Excel lag out for 5 min every time I recalculate the sheet?

Does anybody know of an easy way around this?

Macro To Replace 0s With Blanks In Large Ranges

Mar 18, 2009

I've been looking around to find something like this for a while and I'm pretty new to VBA, so I haven't figured it out myself yet.

Basically, I need a macro that can take a 7-column range and replace the values in all cells containing 0 (but not 10, 20, etc) with a blank cell so that a count function in another column can function.

When I just select the range and use 'Find and Replace' to remove the 0s, it alters 10s, 20s, 30s, any number that even ends in zero instead of just the value of zero itself,

VBA Calculating Max / Min Within Multiple Selected Ranges

Dec 25, 2013

I have a problem with using VBA to calculate max/min within multiple selected ranges.

Here is the file: [URL].... I've also attached it below the post.

Column A to D contain the raw data, column G to L contain the trading data. Each trade is marked with "tick" which consists one buy/sell and one close. The entry and close date&time are also included. Then how to match each entry and close date&time from right to left and therefore to look up max/min value within entry and close time from the raw data in the left columns? Respectively, I would like to calculate the min(low) for a buy/close tick and max(high) for a sell/close tick.

The challenges for me:

1.How to match, or reference from the right to left. I knew that "vlookup" could only match one certain value. (correct me if I didn't know enough about "vlookup")
2.The date&time in the left are time intervals while those in the right are time points. How to refer and locate them?
3.In the right side, length of intervals that each tick marked (i.e.from buy to close) are not the same, so should I use a array to contain the length, and then calculate max/min within each? When the data amount get larger, it is not possible to manually use "min" function.

Excel 2007 :: Locate A Chart In Large Spreadsheet?

Nov 16, 2011

I have inherited a series of Word reports containing links to charts in several Excel files. I can tell by the link in Word that one of the charts is named 'Chart 6'. Is there an easy way to locate which chart in the Excel file is 'Chart 6' (and on and on for all of the other charts linked in the Word doc)? There are upwards of 21 charts in each Excel file linked to each of the Word reports. I am using 2007 but the files are in 2003 format because of limitations of the program from which the data comes for the charts.

Creating Frequency Distribution Chart From Large Dataset - VBA?

Dec 16, 2013

I have a table that can at any point have from a couple hundred up to a couple thousand rows. Within this table lies a column entitled " Offer ". I want to plot the figures in the offer column as a frequency distribution chart.

I plan to do this by listing the x-values (Offer figures), and then using count if formulas to calculate the frequency of that x-value. Then using a simple clustsered column chart to create the visualisation of the frequency distribution.

My question is.... in my large data set, is there any way to get VBA to insert a list of the range of figures in the Offer Column, ? I can figure out how to copy down the countif formula to populate the corresponding frequency column, but how can I have some VBA to dynamically adjust my x-values (offer figures)?

For example... say in the first data set I have

Offer, Frequency
1 10
2 20
3 25
4 20
5 15

that's fine if I make the chart, but what if the data set changes, I want VBA to give me a list of all the offer values, and then I can write some code to insert and copy down along the frequency column the countif formula.

The ultimate goal is to have a frequency chart that will be synced to the self-updating dataset.

Calculating Days In A Month Between 2 Date Ranges

Mar 14, 2013

I've managed to sort the first half of this issue, in that I can calculate the number of days within a given month which fall inside specified to and from date parameters..

The formula I've used is thus :

Code:
=IF(EOMONTH(A13,0)EOMONTH($I$9,0),0,IF(EOMONTH(A13,0)>$I$9,$I$9-(EOMONTH($I$9,-1)),EOMONTH(A13,0)-(EOMONTH(A13,-1))))))

This examines a date value (A13 in this case) and assess whether any days within that month are between the two date parameters specified in H9 and I9.

H9 = 01/01/2011
I9 = 15/05/2011
Jan-11
31

[Code]....

What I need to do now is specify a second set of date parameters in H10 and I10 and add those into the assessment. The dates will NOT overlap.

So, for example, if I were to set H10 as 01/07/2011 and I10 as 15/07/2011, the results would appear as below

Jan-11
31

Feb-11
28

[Code].....

Calculating Numbers Of Specific Dates Within A List Of Ranges

Aug 30, 2007

One of the spreadsheets we have here keeps track of reservations booked in the following way.

FG
101/05/200801/08/2008
201/06/200801/09/2008
301/06/200801/07/2008
401/06/200801/06/2008

The date in F is the check in date and the date in Column G is the check out date.

There is another spreadsheet in the same workbook that counts the dates that these people are checked in.

For example:
AB
1
2JanuaryRooms Occupied
310
420
530
640
751
863
972
1081
119
1210
1311
1412

As you can see column B7 has one room because of the fact that the reservation check in of F1 started on the Fifth of January

B8 is Three because reservations 1-3 are checked in on the sixth of January

B9 is 2 because reservations 1-2 are checked in on the seventh of January

B10 is 1 because reservation 2 is checked in on the eighth of January

Please note that F4:G4 does not count on this worksheet due to the fact that they checked out on the same day as check in.

I would love any help you could give on this confusing subject.

Sent Out (A) - Received (B)
01/06/2010 13:00 - 30/06/2010 13:00
02/06/2010 13:00 - 16/06/2010 13:00
09/06/2010 13:00 - 10/06/2010 13:00
21/06/2010 13:00 - 25/06/2010 9:44
23/06/2010 13:00 - 25/06/2010 10:56
23/06/2010 13:00 - 29/06/2010 13:00

I really can't wrap my head around the idea of calculating overlap (in network days) between six date ranges and was wondering if any of you would have a solution to this problem.

Excel 2003 :: Calculating Number Of Overlapping Days With Several Date Ranges And Conditions

Jan 6, 2014

I am having difficulty calculating the number of total overlapping days between several date ranges for each item in another sheet which has unique items

I am using Excel 2003 and my data looks like this:

Sheet-1 Sheet-2
Item - Sent Out (A) - Received (B) Unique Item Number of days excluding overlap days
1234 01/06/2010 - 30/06/2010 1234 -
4321 02/06/2010 - 16/06/2010 4321 -
1234 09/06/2010 - 10/06/2010
4321 21/06/2010 - 25/06/2010
1234 23/06/2010 - 25/06/2010
4321 23/06/2010 - 29/06/2010

I have used the below formula found from the earlier post but need to add a condition calculating the days for each item.

=SUM(IF(MMULT((NETWORKDAYS(ROW(INDIRECT(MIN(INT(A2:A7))&":"&MAX(INT(B2:B7)))),2)<6)
*(ROW(INDIRECT(MIN( INT(A2:A7))&":"&MAX(INT(B2:B7))))>=TRANSPOSE(INT(A2:A7)))
*(ROW(INDIRECT(MIN(INT(A2:A7))&":"&MAX(INT(B2:B7))))<=TRANSPOSE(B2:B7))+0,ROW(A2:A7)^0),1))

Show Missing Values In Pivot Chart (line Chart) Axis?

Apr 18, 2013

How can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

Chart Dynamic Ranges

Jan 20, 2010

I have a stock chart that I want to update dynamically if the data record length changes. From the source data menu, I tried to use the following data ranges:

=OFFSET(Candles!$AB$8,1,0,COUNTA($AB:$AB)) ---> Date, x values
=OFFSET(Candles!$AD$8,1,0,COUNTA($AD:$AD)) ---> High
=OFFSET(Candles!$AE$8,1,0,COUNTA($AE:$AE)) ---> Low
=OFFSET(Candles!$AF$8,1,0,COUNTA($AF:$AF)) ---> Close

When I place any of these in the data range box under 'x axis labels or values', I receive the message "This function is not valid".

The MS webpage at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...098011033.aspx describes using these formulas but they don't appear to work.

Using VBA To Update Chart Data - 2 Ranges

Dec 14, 2012

I am making a macro to update the data on a bunch of charts. This is what I got from the macro recorder when I selected the data manually.

Code:
Sub testthree()
ActiveWorkbook.Charts("Julian's Words").Select
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source:=Sheets("Super Sight Chart Data").Range( _
"C1:H1,C5:H5"), PlotBy:=xlRows
End Sub

I have created the part of the macro that will go to the data table and define the two ranges I need to use.

Code:
Sub Adjust_Graphs()
Dim lastdate As String
Dim daterange As Range

[Code] .....

However, this code is selecting the entire range C1:H5. How can I get the code to take JUST the two lines I need?

Exmaple: The X axis needs to be C1:H1, and the Y axis needs to be C5:H5.

I also tried this, without success:

Code:

Dim combrange As Range
Set combrange = Union(daterange, wordrange)
ActiveWorkbook.Charts("Julian's Words").SetSourceData Source:=Sheets("Super Sight Chart Data").Range( _
combrange), PlotBy:=xlRows

Dynamic Ranges In 2007 Chart

Jul 24, 2008

I created a chart in Excel 2003 which relies on dynamic named ranges. For years this chart has been working beautifully. I recently converted to Excel 2007 and the chart no longer understands the dynamic named range for the x-axis. It understands the y-axis dynamic named ranges just fine. I have tried renaming the x-axis range to various names (none of which contain the word chart). I also experimented by just using a static range name. And I have tried recreating the chart from scratch with the same results. It lets me create the chart initially but then when I refresh the worksheet, the x-axis is blanked out.

Dynamic Chart/Graph For Changing Ranges

Apr 25, 2008

I have a database in excel with a lot of tables in which lets a uses a combo box so the user select can view just one table.

I want to be able to create a macro so when a button is pressed, it copies the data into a new workbook and creates a chart so they can do whatever they want without disrupting anything in the original workbook.

I have been able to find code that will export the data and create a chart (see below) but the problem is the range changes from table to table so I need to find a way of changing how the chart picks up the data range.

Sub Chart_New_Book()

Sheets("Temp").Select
Cells.Select
Selection.Copy
Workbooks.Add
ActiveSheet.Paste
Range("A1").Select
Charts.Add
ActiveChart.ChartType = xlColumnClustered
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source:=Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:C10")
ActiveChart.Location Where:=xlLocationAsObject, Name:="Sheet1"
End Sub

So at the moment when charting ony cells A1:C10 will be plotted no matter what the size of the table is and making the target range bigger only sees the blank cells being plotted.

Pie Chart - How To Use Hide Values But Not Show In Chart

Dec 17, 2013

I have created a pie chart showing top 10 best selling categories. However, on this pie chart, I want %age of overall sales to be shown.

At the moment say I put in the following

Catalogue 1 100
Catalogue 2 98
Catalogue 3 92
Catalogue 4 85
Catalogue 5 84
Catalogue 6 75

[Code]....

I add Data Labels and select the percentages. This shows at Cat 1 having 12.5% of the sales (100 of 800 sales), Cat 2 having 12.25%, and so on..... However, what you don't see is the following data:

Catalogue 11 60
Catalogue 12 58
Catalogue 13 57
Catalogue 14 57
Catalogue 15 56

So based on 1,088 sales, Cat 1 at 100 is actually only 9.19% of TOTAL sales.

I understand what is happening, the chart is giving the percentage based on the data inputted into the chart.

I did consider adding an 11th category to the chart, which was the total of Catalogues 11-15. Whilst this does give a more accurate percentage figure (as now all sales have been inputted), it makes the chart look ****

Is there a way of either adding the 11th category, and then "hiding" it, so that the chart doesn't display it, but uses it's value to calculate Catalogues 1-10s percentage?

BTW: The reason I ask is that I could be dealing with anywhere from 30 to over 100 catalogues. So it's not ideal showing the others in 1 chart.
