Calculating Multiple Comparisons Over Large Sample
Aug 4, 2009
I have a sample of aproxomatly 30,000 records, and I am working to do some data analysis on it.
I am comparing multiple fields using sumproduct(), but if I go above two criteria, the calculation time becomes incredibly long. Is there a faster way to preform these large comparisons, or am I stuck watching my Excel lag out for 5 min every time I recalculate the sheet?

I am working on a custom log file for my company. It has 3 sheets and on each sheet is a service type column with drop downs and next to it an amount coumn. Every day that a service issue is requested someone goes in and chooses the service type from the drop down and enters the amount in USD. I want to add charts to the top of each sheet and on the axis i want to have service type and then the total amount spent on that catagory.

Sample data:
1234
234
123
0304
304
7685
0123
0076
687
I need to be able to use formulas on the above numbers to perform look-ups and comparisons(=IF(A1>1000,"Yay","Boo")). My issue is the leading 0. To use formulas the above fields HAVE to be in a number format. Converting to typical number format removes the leading 0. All of the help files I can find show how to preserve the leading 0 either require a set number of 0s or require a set length. Unfortunately my data cannot match those rules. Is there any way I can convert these cells to a number format AND preserve any existing leading 0(s)?

I am having a little difficulty getting my vba to correspond to what i want it to do. I have columns that can vary with how many rows they have weekly. The all start at P2, R2, V2.
These columns always have the same number of rows as each other, but the number of rows varies.
I compare my R2>P2, and if it is return the number in R2. If not, i am looking to take P2 and round down to the nearest .95. (ex: R2 is at 3.45. The value that should be put in in V2 is 2.95. Since the values all change as well, it needs to compare: .96-1.95, 1.96-2.95, etc. all the way up to 15,000.
I know it can be done with if's, whiles, or from i to x, but my experience is in vb.net, not vba. And, since i am new at this, i can write the code, but don't know how to make it correspond to a new excel filename weekly.

I have monthly revenue information going across columns identified by an account number on sheet 2. On sheet 1, I have an order date alongside the account number. I need a formula that will return total revenues (on sheet 2) for all that occured before the order date, and all that occured after the order date.
I have attached an example here...the two yellow boxes are where I am looking to place the formulas on sheet 1.

With the following procedure, I am using a Part ID number to look up that part's location in a worksheet. To do this, I am using the DGET function which now works, thanks to all who helped with those issues.
But now I'm trying to harness the outcomes from that function.
--It displays #VALUE! if the part ID number was not found in my worksheet and therefore the function can't return a location.
--It displays # NUM! if the part ID number was found in multiple records/rows in my worksheet and so it has multiple corresponding locations.
I am trying to construct an IF section that will clarify what these mean to anyone running this macro. I want to replace #VALUE! with "Not Found" and #NUM! with "Numerous".
The issue arises when I compare the result of the function with the #VALUE! or #NUM! strings. I've tried StrComp and a simple equals sign (as below) I've even tried having Option Compare at the top, though I'm not familiar with how that would change things. But I am getting "Type Mismatch Error 13" all the time. I also get that error when set my DGET function = to a variable (Dim'ed as string)
Variables to point out:
---Sheeti is a Publically defined Worksheet
---'CriteriaRange : Publically defined Range that is empty (until assigned criteria for my DGET function later within my loop)
---'InventoryRange : Pubically defined Range that contains inventory data that I look through with my DGET function (Items in the inventory are identifyable by a string I call "sItem" and each has a location in a corresponding column that I am looking for with my DGET function)
Public Sub LoopThruParts()
Dim y As Integer
Dim sItem As String
Dim ValueError As String
Dim NumError As String

Looking for any assistance: Excel 2000 (9.0.6923 SP-3) Windows XP Pro SP-2
I am trying to get Excel to sort through data in various cells,(text and numerical) and do comparisons with a positive/negative or yes/no error displayed at the end of each row.Suggestions so far range from don't know to use Arrays, I am swamped in MSN help pages and am completely lost now. here goes:
In the example below I want Excel to compare Column P4 against Column M4 and display a result as above, so for instance British Midland (M4) will always be 40100350(P4) & Heathrow Express will always be 40100355, British Rail (Tickets) will always be 40100355,so I want Excel to compare all Suppliers against their corresponding codes for each row Eg (P4 to compare to M4) and display if this is correct or not, the codes 40100350,355 etc do not change ....

I am trying to use the large function over two ranges. Even though incorrect I will include my original formula that doesn't work to help illustrate.
if(large((L20:L500,W20:W500),1)=I20,$P$4,if((large((L20:L500,W20:W500),2)=I20,$P$5,0)))
Does anybody know of an easy way around this?

Is there a way to return not only one cell but two with LARGE?
I'm still working on my top 5 sellers list and trying to generate the list correctly. As of now when I have multiples of the same value I get the same name. Here's what I have now:
Name---Sales
Bob---75
Sue---68
Tim---66

What I'm trying to do is this:
Name---Sales
Bob---75
Sue---68
Tim---66
Jane---66

I am trying to use the 'large' function to input data from multiple spreadsheets, but am uncertain how to do so other than to use the same rows/columns in each and to use only continuous worksheets (that is, I want to enter data from worksheet 1,3,5 and different columns in each, for example).

I'm having an issue where I want to merge lots of tables held in different spreadsheets into one large table so that I can use it in a pivot table. The attached spreadsheet demonstrates what I mean:
So there are 3 different accounts held in the first 3 tabs. These all have the same columns and format. I want to merge these automatically into the table that is in tab 4 so that I can use the pivot table also demonstrated in this tab.
What I want to happen is when I add rows to the tables in the first 3 tabs, these are automatically populated onto the 'overall' table in the 4th tab. (I'm aware I could do this manually, but for what I'm using this for these will be dozens of tables with hundreds of rows updated monthly).
Is this possible? Basically it doesn't matter how it's done, as long as i can show the information held in the pivot table each month end.

In column A I have a list of product names..(e.g....ABCD, JKLM....)...this is the "master product list" -- 1000 rows of products.
In columns C:G, I have additional product names, each column represents products sold by state. (each column lists between 100-250 products).
I want to do a VLOOKUP and I wanted to know what products that are in
A1:A1000, that is NOT listed in C:G?
My experience with VLOOKUP is limited...but I do know that I can only look in 1 column at a time.
How can I write it to look at the ENTIRE range? I suppose I can copy all the all the products to 1 column...?

I have a question about sorting. I would like to sort multiple columns from small to large at the same time. Is this possible? I have over 400 columns to sort so I would rather not do this one column at the time.
Example
A.... B.... C
0.2 0.4 0.3
0.4 0.3 0.5
0.1 0.6 0.1
shoud be
A.... B.... C
0.1 0.3 0.1
0.2 0.4 0.3
0.4 0.6 0.5

I found the thread about how to get the second best result (=LARGE(range,2)) but that can't handle when I have ywo top values and a lower third value. It still return the next value after the top value, which is the same value. I want to get the next lowest vaule.
Example:
In this row:
7
7
6
5
5
4
I want to get the value 6 and the formula =LARGE(range,2) gives the second number 7.
How do I get the second value that I want?
Maybe if I use the RANK() formula in some way, but how?

I have a group trip coming up where we took in a $1000 deposit per person. The total amount is only in the main members cell. There will be two more payment amounts coming. I need to make certain each person has paid the total amount they are required for the trip. There are two possibilities for total trip amount. Double occupancy is $15,500.00 and Triple is $14,500 per person.
There is a unique Identifier for each registrant, except when there is a multiple person under one registration the identifier has all the same number except at the end. I figured out a way to strip the number down to just show the same number in one registered group. There could be up to 10 people under one registration. I might not have the best option for breaking down the Identifier number, but thought it would be a good start. Used the code Left(column, number).
Issue is this. How can I now take the total number of people under one group take the total deposit and split it between just that unique group so I can then determine what is still owed after payments are made.

I have a hyperlink mailto - =HYPERLINK(CONCATENATE("mailto:",C2,"?subject=",C3,"&body=",C4),"Request Update")
But the body only supports a line or two of text, which isn't useful, and doesn't allow for different lines to be placed within it.
I then tried addeding extra text with another cell - =HYPERLINK("Mailto: "&C2&"?Subject="&C3&"&Body="&C4&" "&TEXT(C5,"$#,##0.00")&".")
But this doesn't work either. Both come up with #value error with too much text..

The line the debugger identifies as the one with the error is this one:

I am working in excel 2007. I have been using the COUNTIFS function to pull out some summary stats from my data. For my data I have sample ID's which are a letter followed by a number e.g. A12, A20, A39, A50. I have 40 columns of variables I am looking at which for each sample ID have either a value of 0 or a numerical number. For each column, I want to count firstly any samples that are greater than 0 (i.e. they have a numerical value) AND if the sample ID differs. This is because I have multiple samples per ID and so I want to know how many different ID's have a numerical value.
Is this at all possible in Excel? I do not know all of the functions very well, so I cannot find anything that will allow me to look at differences in the samples ID.

I am computing the average of anywhere from 5-10 numbers. When the numbers are not inserted there is nothing left in the cell. The problem is I get a value that is close to the average but not the real average. (Also the cells I am using are N37:Q41 for the first 5 samples which is constant the next 5 are not always constant W37:Z41) Here is the formula I am using:
=IF((W37="")+(W38="")+(W39="")+(W40="")+(W41=""),AVERAGE(N37:Q41),IF((W38="")+(W39="")+(W40="")+(W41=""),AVERAGE(N37:Q41,W37),IF((W39="")+(W40="")+(W41=""),AVERAGE(N37:Q41,W37:Z38),IF((W40="")+(W41=""),AVERAGE(N37:Q41,W37:Z39),IF(W41="",AVERAGE(N37:Q41,W37:Z40),AVERAGE(N37:Q41,W37:Z41))))))
I have the same problem with a standard deviation formula and the same group of numbers (I get something close but a few points off).
=IF((W37="")+(W38="")+(W39="")+(W40="")+(W41=""),STDEV(N37:Q41),IF((W38="")+(W39="")+(W40="")+(W41=""),STDEV(N37:Q41,W37),IF((W39="")+(W40="")+(W41=""),STDEV(N37:Q41,W37:Z38),IF((W40="")+(W41=""),STDEV(N37:Q41,W37:Z39),IF(W41="",STDEV(N37:Q41,W37:Z40),STDEV(N37:Q41,W37:Z41))))))

I have an excel sheet with the following sample data on it.
Name Age Sex Height
Ray 33 M 5' 8''
Sind 29 F 5'4''
Ralph 3 M 2' 1"
Ryan 1 M 1' 2"
I have managed to extract this info onto a form named Form1 which has 4 list boxes in which the above info is displayed in the same format.
To be more precise
Listbox1 shows all the Names,
Listbox2 shows Age
List box3 shows Sex and
Listbox4 shows height respectively.
What i want to do is, When i select an item on Listbox1, all corresponding enteries on Listbox2, 3 and 4 should also be simultaneously highlighted,
For example if I select the third data Ralph on the ListBox1, then ListBox2 should highlight 3,
Listbox3 should highlight M and
Listbox4 should highlight 2' 1" simultaneously.

I have an Excel file that's updated monthly. when it does save its around 16mb and can take up to 12 hours to save, and sometimes just doesn't.
I have tried saving as binary, I have made sure exact size of area to be saved is required, I have tried save with no calculations.
Basically the only reason I need to save it is so that another analysis spreadsheet can pull data from it. The file is heavily formatted, charts, vlookup tables etc, none of which is needed when analysis spreadsheet links to it.

I've coded a macro that can randomly sample out rows of data from a sheet. This macro is used to sample out certain rows from a master sheet full of data (which has 48 columns) based on user names (a column titled LAST_UPDATE_NAME). For Example (ref. wkb attached), if for 5 users named Alastor, Catherine, Emma, Julie and Victor for whom i've to choose data from the Dump sheet.
I need to design a module in which if i input the no. of samples to be chosen against each name, then that many number of rows has to be chosen for that particular name and copied to a new sheet (probably such sheets can be renamed with the usernames). Also i want to consolidate the copied data from the multiple sheets and consolidate them to one sheet.

Can anyone explain clearly (using layman terms) about how to go about randomly choosing specific number of rows from a set of autofiltered records?
For e.g., If there are 1000 rows of data in a worksheet and after applying autofilter to certain column(s) [one or more] say i get some 75 rows. Then how can x no. of rows be chosen where x can be input by the user or calculated based on a certain percentage? Say if out of these 75 filtered rows, 8 rows have to be chosen randomly - where 8 can be input by the user or also be calculated as 10% of 75.
Also, is it possible to choose these x records from the filtered set of rows without actually copying them to another sheet?
