Jan 5, 2009I have created a line chart that plots weight of a person, but want to show on the plot area what a certain range of weight represent, Ive attached images to show this concept.

Graph The Following Data In An Area Chart With Line Charts Superimposed On The Area Chart
Nov 1, 2006I am trying to graph the following data in an area chart with line charts superimposed on the area chart. I have a lot of data (and a lot going on) so I'm trying to figure out the best way to show this in excel from a functional standpoing (i can't get this to work in excel!!) to also an asthetic standpoint (dont want it to look terrible or illegible). This is what I'm trying to chart:
1) Weather data (temperature) by region:
So one region, would be: Northwest
I would like the "area" (so a shaded region) to be the min/max of the temperature data for each month.
2) I would like to show the temperature for each year as a line graph on the chart - so you can see if a year falls in or out of the shaded region.
3) I would like to show a company's sales increases across the same months per year as separate line charts. I may choose to just show the biggest outlier year in the end... or to show 2006 (the latest data).
What I am trying to convery with the chart is that the company's sales is or is not tied to weather deviations. I have attached an excel file with the data. I haven't been able to use the area chart or get a two axis chart to work or get it to look even remotely professional.
Show Missing Values In Pivot Chart (line Chart) Axis?
Apr 18, 2013How can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

Oct 9, 2006I have a spreadsheet where I track income (positive) and expense (negative) items and compare budget to actual amounts. I want to create a simple bar graph comparing budgeted amounts to actual amounts for each item.
However, when I do this, I see all of my income items above the line (pointing up) and all of the expense items below the line (pointing downward).
Is there an option I can select to just use absolute values for the items so they all appear above the line?

Nov 27, 2011I am looking for a creative way to display a pie chart within a data point marker of a line chart.
My database has 3 value columns, Type1, Type2 and the Total (Type1 + Type2)
these are recorded per day (Date, in Column A)
I have a line chart that displays the total by date, but I want to find a way to display the percentage split of a particular day by type.
I was thinking to load the chart image into the Data point marker, but i don't think that is the best way as the data is updated daily and I would have to do it each day for a few line charts.
The other way I was thinking about was to have a generic Pie chat in the Line chart (Maybe in a corner) and the pie would update depending on way date series was selected or Mouseover'd)
the way that I am approaching it at the movement (Not the best way and by far not the coolest way. Is to have a list of all the dates in a column next to the Line chart and using some VBA, what ever date is selected in the column the pie chart displays the corresponding data. But eh challenge is that when there is alot of dates, I am going to be scrolling up and down.
I am using Excel 2010, but I cant not use the slicer's as the other users do not have 2010, they have 2007.
Show Values Of Charts Data Points
Apr 23, 2008I've been working on this chart for a while and can't seem to get my x and y axis as well as my series corrected. I have time and distance but since my distances are small I cant seem to make sense on how best to depict my data. Right now it is shown as data points but would love to show value.

Oct 10, 2012I know how to create a chart that is linked to another worksheet without a problem.
What I'm looking to accomplish is to create a line chart that automatically updates when new data is entered. So if I were to enter data for October 2012 it would automatically update the chart without me having to manually select the data. I tried the OFFSET tutorials and to be totally honest I get lost so maybe can give me a step by step? Also, I only want to have 15 months of data to show on the line chart at one time. So it should show June-11 to Sept-12 to begin with and once data is entered for October (R) it should update the the line chart to show only July-11 to Oct-12.
I messed with it for about 5 hours last night and got nowhere. About 2 hours today and even watched YouTube tutorials. I can almost get the OFFSET but it's a vertical OFFSET. I tried the horizontal tutorial but it still selects vertically.

Aug 21, 2007Does anyone know how to create a data table associated with a line chart? The Data Table option is available for a bar chart, but not line.
The goal is to have a table that displays the data just under the chart. There are multiple charts per page, so the association of the data table is ideal.
Line Chart With Variable Data Series
Jan 17, 2014I am trying to produce a line chart, which will use imported data on a separate sheet (but within the same workbook)
The imported data can be of different sizes ie column widths and length. Some columns may contain only zero and should not be included in the chart, and will be to right of the data.
I have created a named range for the data series called ChartData using =OFFSET(Data!$C$1,0,0,info!$C$7,info!$A$2) - C7 and A2 are calculations to set column and row sizes. I have tried to use this as the chart's data series, but without success.
Line Chart From Dynamic Range Of Data
Feb 14, 2014I have a spreadsheet that I have setup to have raw data pasted into. Long story short, it pulls the maximum reading for a given 5 minute period and returns the highest value for each 5 minute increment where there was a reading. It does this for all of the different dates entered, returning a separate data table for each date.
What I now need is to graph the data on a line chart. Since the number of time values can be variable, I have to include the entire range (for example A3:B5002). When I graph this out, it has all of the data clumped up at the beginning and flatlines for 99% of the chart.
I tried building dynamic named ranges using offset, but that seems to yield similar results once charted.
See the link below where I've dumped some sample data in (it wouldn't let me upload due to the size and I can't upload only part of it without breaking the whole thing). The data I need to chart is from columns A&B on the GraphData sheet. Sheet 1 contains the chart I have been trying to use. The endgame of this is to have the end user paste in their data and *POOF* charts.
My only restriction is that I cannot have Macros/VBA.

Data Series On A Line Column 2 Axes Chart
Feb 15, 2007Im plotting data on a Line-Column 2 Axes Chart which works really well with 4 data series (2 column, 2 Line) but when adding a fifth data series, the fourth disappears from view. I can see its still there cos I can display the values but I cant get the line to appear. The values for the 5th series are also similar to other series values so its not like the chart cant display it....are there limits to the number of series on such a chart?

Mar 10, 2014I have some code to plot a column chart of data but it isn't working as expecting at the moment. The code is below. The variable binCounter is a count of how many cells in a range that I want to plot on the chart.
However, what I am finding is that the first couple of cells in the range appear as the series name with the rest appearing as the data in the chart. Secondly, the chart appears with the axis labels 1,2,3 etc when I have some custom ones I would prefer to use. How do I go about setting this property, as I can only find options on setting the axis title There is a lot of stuff on XY charts on Google but I can't find much on column charts unfortunately .

Apr 13, 2012I have got a lot of data to put in a chart that updates every 5 minutes with new data - i have a chart that Line chart that shows this.
It shows the cost of something every 5 minutes.
I have put this in a chart using offset but obviously i want to show the cost over the course of the day - because this updates every 5 minutes, the axis at the bottom (which has the time of the data) is massive and doesn't look good.
Is there a way to show the axis at an hourly interval but keep all the data in the chart?

Feb 15, 2012I am trying to overlay a line chart on top of a stacked column chart. The stacked column chart is a chart where the x axis is dates and the y axis is amount. The line chart is a projected amount that I will reach in few years; the x axis is the date while the y axis is an amount. I can get a chart that has a line and stacked columns, but ever time, the dates get messed up. The line has an extremely wide date range while the columns only have about a month of data.
