Feb 21, 2014How to form sub-totals quarterly in a typical list of transactions. Twist being it is not calendar year quarters but quarters from from 5 April to 5 July, 6July to 5 October etc. Typical table columns looks like:

Jul 18, 2011I am trying to get the formula for calculating yearly rental imcome. The range is 10 years and the interest is 34%. The first year payment is 42,000 and the 10th year payment is 56,000. I can't figure out how to do the other years. The principal is 325,000 and the sale value is 425,000.

But I want to make it compact , as d one I created is long enough.
A3 = Principal Amount
B3 = Date of Investment
C3 = Interest as on Date
D3 = Number of Days , amount Invested {comes out of formula set}
E3 = Rate of Interest
Now in F3 I want the Interest amount , compunded quarterly.
Some times NUMBER OF INVESTED CAN BE LESS THAN 90 DAYS TOO...then what ?

Jan 20, 2014generating a formula that takes the weekly values in a quarter and uses them to generate a quarterly average. Quarters are split up as follows.
Q#1: 09-11 (First week of September-last week of November)
(Used to generate price for January)
Q#2: 12-02 (First week-Last week)
Q#3: 03-05 (First week-Last week)
Q#4: 06-08 (First week-Last week)

I want to calculate daily averages for each quarter (i.e 2000Q1 value will be the average of values between 01/01/2000-31/03/2000, 2000Q2 will be average of values between 01/04/2000-31/06/2000, 2000Q3 average(01/07/2000-31/09/2000) and 2000Q4 will be the average of (01/10/2000-31/12/2000) etc. for all years afterwards.
I want to have the values in the corresponding cells starting with range ("e2")
Yearly Planner With Only Mondays Dates Displayed
Apr 7, 2009I wish to have a simple planner displaying the academic year with only mondays' dates.
ROW 3 displays the dates
Column B is Week 1
Cell B3 is the first date (10.08.09)

I have managed to do it using autofill before but I can't get it to do it now. Is there a preferred way to achieve this?

Nov 1, 2008I am attempting to build a spreadsheet for work, and I'm having trouble calculating a correct total.
In essence, the bit of my spreadsheet I'm concentrating on is 2 columns:
Column A is headed "Type of Work" and Column B is headed "Completed".
The Type of Work will either be Letters or Memos, and the Completed will either be Yes or left blank to indicate No. For other reasons, No has to be represented by a blank cell.
At the moment, I have 12 rows, going from A2 to B13, with data such as the following:

I need a summary section at the side with the following calculations:
Total Number of Entries
Total Number Outstanding
Total Number of Letters Outstanding
Total Number of Memos Outstanding
However, as I have only populated it with 12 rows of data for my testing purposes, I need to build formulas to take into account the fact that a maximum of 2000 rows may be filled in by other people over the next few months. Therefore, my formulas look like the following:
Total Number of Entries (stored in E2):
=COUNTA(B3:B2000)
Total Number Outstanding (stored in F2):
=E2-(COUNTIF(C3:C2000,"Yes"))
Both of the above formulas work perfectly, and when I enter a 13th and 14th row, the totals update as I want them to, so I have no problems there.
However, I am struggling to enter a correct formula which will calculate the total number of Letters that aren't Completed.
I did set some names and tried to use:
{=SUM((Type="Letters")*(Completed="Yes"))}
but it gave me a #NA error, presumably because the named range was looking at all the empty cells up to A2000.

Nov 26, 2007I attach a couple of files that i receive a few times a year and wish to be able to count the numbers in a more effective fashion than i have attached. Essentially, the source data file naturally changes its numbers each time i get the file so the file that i tinkered about with (also attached) would need to have each and every formula moved to tally correctly. This seems to be a waste of time and would gladly appreciate any assistance. Columns A & C are irrelevant for the purposes of the exercise and can be ignored.
I have to be able to count the data according to employee number groups:

200-499
500-25000
While I have already done this on the attached file you will be able to see that its a long drawn out process. Can anyone advise a better way?
Calculating Totals For Items With Associated Quantities Over Multiple Rows
May 4, 2009I am trying to accomplish is to associate each product on the Distribution tab in 'E' to its associated quantity in 'F' so I can count the total number of each product and display this in 'D' on the Totals tab. Once this is done, the total for each product would me multiplied by the associated price in 'C' on the Totals tab to achieve the total item value for each item in 'E'. I have included the current results and what the correct values should be. As you can see, I tried to use 'Countif' with no success. I could not find any solutions in the forum that were close enough to this situation to work.

May 23, 2014I am trying to write a formula for my account statement its got a list of dates of invoices descriptions then the value of invoice.
I want to check the dates of invoice to the date of statement if less the 1 day invoice total to go in a box called current, if between 2 and 30 days to invoice value to go into 1 to 30 days past due, if between 31 and 60 days invoice values to go into a box called 31 to 60 days past due, and then if dates are between 61 days or more then invoice totals go in to a over 61 days over due box.

Mar 31, 2009I have two columns. The first column contains cells with multiple date values in text format (YYYY/MM/DD) in each cell. The other I was planning to be Calculated cells that I thought would compare the string of text (possibly converted to numbers) and determine which is the next in sequence after today's date. As there may be numbers in the past I cannot just use the first item.

Problem: I've been unable to figure out a calculation that will accomplish this. The idea I had was to examine the text in pieces and compare them numerically to "today" (as a number instead of a date).
I'm not very adept with Excel functions yet. I've started with this: "=(MID(A2,2,10))" but all it does is return the first item. I also tried using a Replace function to get rid of the dashes and also one that would return the dates as a decimal. But while I can get the numbers to change format, I don't know how to do the compare...

Cell A1 will contain the function that automatically obtains the current year from the PC clock (or a manual input). Cells B1...B6 will contain text (names). Cells C1...C6 will contain the month of their birth. Cell D1...D6 will contain the day of their birth. And cells E1...E6 will contain the year of their birth. Cells F1...F6 will have the formula to calculate the difference between A1 and its respective cell column E.
The only functions I know are =(TODAY) which does not give me just the year. Also, I do not know how I would be able to do the calculation [e.i., =(TODAY) - 1988].

The scenario is
Cell A1 = Start Time
Cell A2 = Start Time
Cell A3 = Break Time
Basically I want the output to calculate hours worked between:-
0000 and 0600 as a total in cell A4
0600 and 1800 as a total in cell A5
1800 and 0000 as a total in cell A6
Then if the value of A5 is greater than A3, subtract A3, but if the value of A5 is less than the value of A3, A5 should be zero and the remainder of the value of A3 subtracted from A4 (or A6) depending which has a value.
