Can Use Cell To Find Workbook Name In VLookup Function

The table to the right is actually in another workbook, both workbooks will be linked. What I'm trying to achieve is a vlookup formula that will count the items in the left table that have numbers entered into them. (This table will be located within a different workbook).
I have a very large spreadsheet that I am using to track/analyze enterprise roles and the permissions that go along with each role. On the first sheet, I have a list of all employees (Name, Title, Department, etc) and on another sheet, I have a list of all Security Groups and Distribution Lists (with Members.) What I need to do is create a vba script that completes (1) a VLookUp using the Name column of the Employee sheet as the Criteria and then check against the first column in the Groups/Lists sheet for the matching name. If the employee's name from the Name column is found in the Group/Lists column, replace that name with the employee's Title from the Employee sheet. I then need this process to loop and continue through each column of the Groups/Lists sheet until all columns have completed. The end result should be that all names on the Groups/Lists sheet have been replaced with the corresponding Title found on the Employee sheet.

Hello,
What I am trying to do is
Search the number written at ColumnB in ColumnA and if found write YES to column C
if not write No
I'm in a workbook, and I want to look up a name. CTRLF or clicking on the binoculars both bring up the expected dialog box, but when I populate "Find What" and either hit enter, click Find All or Find Next, nothing happens.
The only thing I can think of is that I created a macro to function in one sheet only, then saved this workbook as .xlsm. But that doesn't seem right.
I'm trying to figure out a way to find a specific sheet in a workbook that does not contain the macro. Within the macro I have a cell which holds the name of the specific sheet I would like to find but I can't get it to work for some reason...
'Dim officen As Integer
'Dim thiswb As Workbook
officen = Range("A2").Value
Set thiswb = ActiveWorkbook
' Open the Active Info file
Workbooks.Open "C:My DcoumentsActive 20080616.xls", , , , "xxxxxx"
' Dim sourcewb As Workbook
Set sourcewb = Workbooks.Open"Active 20080616.xls"
Sheets("officen").Select
RowCount = ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count
Range("B2").Select.............................
I am trying to find some missing values compared to 6 base values. For instance, I have a sheet with some names translated to another language, I am trying to find the languages some names have not been translated too.
For example, if I have six languages, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, Chinese-Simplified, Chinese- Traditional, and Korean to compare too, I want to find any names that are not translated in certain languages.
Sample:
John Japanese
John Chinese - Simplified
John Korean
Martin Arabic
Martin Chinese - Simplified
Martin Russian
Ramon Arabic
Ramon Russian
Sam Arabic
Sam Chinese- Traditional
I am having some trouble getting a formula to work. I am building a report that pulls figures from a pivot table in another workbook. I am using a vlookup with match function to get the column index to find the relevant data I want. Where I need to add two columns together I am using sum, with the vlookup & match formulas nested in them e.g.:
=SUM(VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C:$AQ,MATCH("FAID",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C$6:$AQ$6,0),FALSE),VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C:$AQ,MATCH("COMM",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C$6:$AQ$6,0),FALSE),VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C:$AQ,MATCH("BPCM",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C$6:$AQ$6,0),FALSE),VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C:$AQ,MATCH("COMD",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!$C$6:$AQ$6,0),FALSE))
Where:
F13 = Employee number
Column C on the pivot 156 workbook is where the employee number is based.
The Match formula is then getting the column index from the column headings of the pivot table ie. "FAID"
This in itself works fine, as long as it finds a match in the column headings. This is where i get the error as in the above function "COMD" is not in the pivot table. However I need to keep it included as it may appear on a future pivot table. Is there a way of getting the sum function to complete even though later in the formula it can't complete the vlookup? So it will ignore it, or assume the value is zero if it can't find it? The formula probably needs to do this for all the vlookups as some headings may drop off in future pivot tables.
I have a Password login userform on my workbook for users to enter their username and passwords.
Now i want to make a userform where users can change their passwords.
With the login userform i used a application vlookup function to see if the username and password are corresponding. how can i code a userform to look for the username in column A and then change the password in column B?
Password.xlsm
I am trying to use the vlookup function but the range of reference has that little green triangle in the corner and if I f2 each cell that triangle goes away and the vlookup function works great. Do you know what is going on here? And also, a quick way to convert all the cells with the green triangle to be without the triangle in a whole range? I don't want to have to go to each cell individually and f2. I've attached an example worksheet for reference to what I am describing. vlookup format.xlsx
View 2 Replies View RelatedColumn A includes a name
Column B includes an age
Column C states a division (this is the column that contains the Vlookup function)
Column G is where I have to put a range of ages (for instance, x=<0,>3)
Column H is where the division name is.
The idea behind this exercise is to use the Vlookup function in column C to reference column G, and return a value in column H. Here a copy of my formula in column C: =VLOOKUP(B3,$G$3:$H$12,2,TRUE). For instance, if Mike (A) is 16 (B) then he would be in the Midget division (C). C is calculated by comparing column B to G, then returning a value in column H. For some odd reason, I can't get column G to reference an age range, such as 1-5 years old.
Is there a way to get the vlookup function to return the cell address, rather than the value, of the lookup?
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf I put this in a cell it works fine =VLOOKUP(B3,DateRange,2,0) If I tell VBA to write that formula, it works fine.
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=VLOOKUP(RC[-44],DateRange,2,0)"
If I put this in VBA: Range("AK1").Value = Application.VLookup(Range("B3").Value, Range("DateRange"), 2, False)
I get #N/A. I'm stumped - any ideas why this would happen, or how I can work this into my code? I need the vlookup to occur 1000s of times, and don't want to have to put the formula in the spreadsheet because I just want the results, not the formula.
I have problem with a spreadsheet that I am trying to create.
I have a large sheet of data which is dumped in from another program. This contains our deliveries and orders etc.
Now for planning purposes, I would like to see how much of each item I have on order.
I can use VLOOKUP, but that will only give me the amount for the first order it encounters. But not the 3rd, 4th etc. I could use SUMIF but I need the dates as well. After doing some searching I think I have found a way of doing this: I can get the first easier enough:
=VLOOKUP(D$11,'purchase order'!$A$1:$K$6000,5,FALSE), this gives the first order than the another =VLOOKUP(D11,'purchase order'!$A$1:$K$6000,11,FALSE) for its date.
For the second column to check any other orders I thought I could find the cell referance for the first SEARCH: which is
A108: ="A"&MATCH(D11,'purchase order'!A:A,0).
Is there any way of using this Reference to start a new VLOOKUP. So the Lookup Range starts at this reference?? To make things harder it is on another sheet.
I have the following formula that works. However, I would like to automatically change a portion of it depending on the cell value. Let's say in cell A1 the user types in "IS 12-19-13" I would like to change the workbook name "IS 12-18-13" in the formula.
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(BQ17,'[IS 12-18-13.xlsm]Summary'!$B$3:$D$21,3,FALSE),0)
I am using VLOOKUP to match Account names in two tables.
If the names are made up of letters or letters+numbers the names match.
If the account names are purely numbers the names do not match.
All names are formatted as text.
I have tried using TRIM, numbers still do not match.
I want to Vlook a value from a cell in another workbook then before I get the formula result I would like it to concatenate the result with another cell.
I have attached an example
AlEXAMPLE.xls
I have 2 columns of data
column A = weeks (A2:A50) i.e. P1W1, P1W2, P1W3....P12W4 etc
column B = headcount (B2:B50) i.e. 5, 7, 5...10 etc
Essentially my criteria is "looking for last week and give me headcount" i.e. my lookup criteria is P7W5 ....however if P7W5 has no data, i want the lookup to go up or offset to the row above (it may be one to 4 rows above)....
I am using VLOOKUP to find the size of a cam to be installed in a tablet press, based on the product code it will be running.
The array has two columns: (W) Product Code, (X) Cam Size.
Array: W4:X437
The user selects the Product Code from a drop-down list in cell E5.
The resulting Cam Size is displayed in cell E7. The VLOOKUP works fine.
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(E5,W4:X437,2,FALSE),"")
Occasionally, the cam size has to be updated. The user would then select a new cam size from a drop-down list in cell E9.
I have a "Update Cam Size" command button.
What I need to happen is for the value in E9 to replace the value in the array that is displayed in E7. Obviously, I have to know the location of the cell in the array, but I can't figure that part out. I've tried ADDRESS and MATCH functions, but it comes back with "#N/A" Value not available error.
=ADDRESS(MATCH(E7,W4:X437,0),2)
When I use VLOOKUP formula within a VBA routine ex:
For LoopCounter = 1 to LastRow
With Worksheets("0MATERIAL")
.Cells(RowCounter, 5).FormulaR1C1 = "VLOOKUP(RC[-2],'0MAT_UNIT'!R1C1:R65520C12,4,FALSE)"
End With
RowCounter = RowCounter + 1
Next LoopCounter
How can I find out what row or cell address that the VLOOKUP found the data? The above code works perfectly but the problem is I need data from that same row in columns 4-11. I replicated the .Cells line above and made each one a VLOOKUP (for column 4, 5, 6, etc...) but this kills the performance. I have around 32,000 rows in sheet 0MATERIAL and around 50,000 rows within sheet 0MAT_UNIT
I want a function that allows me to enter a range and then returns
the address of the cell with the minimum value. It is the Address I am
interested in, not the value.
Is it possible to insert a cell refenece into the FIND function.
So, replace JAN-2013 with Sheet1 cell A1
Selection.Find(What:="JAN-2013", After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlValues, _
LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, _
MatchCase:=False, SearchFormat:=False).Activate
I have bunch of data in the first column but there is always an identifier in this data at different location within each cell of the column. I am thinking the best way is to use the Find function. If true, then format the whole row.
For example: starting in row 10, I want the macro to look in A10, find "AFL" and if "AFL" is found in A10, then format row 10 by highlighting it yellow. Otherwise, highlight it red.
I am trying to use VB to vlookup between to workbooks
1. Make active workbook WBK1
2. Make workbook being open WBK2
3. Copy and Paste between WBK1 and WBK2
4. Have a vlookup in WBK1 and bring in the values from WBK2
5. Close WKB2
6. Copy, Paste, and transpose values in wkb1 within wkb1
The script works fine until it reaches the vlookup step. I have used the vlookup by itself without the copy and paste code successfully but when I combine the two it provides me with the error 9. Subscript out of range.
I have to open another work book to get a certain cell with a value.
ex. in my source file (prod plan) i have columns A,B,C,D. in column B it contains Line1 up to Line10. In column C it contains Model and Column D it contains Quantity.
Prod Plan workbook
Sample:
A-----B-----C------D
---------------------
AAA--Line1--M1----87
BBB--Line2--L2-----45
CCC--Line3--X1----0
up to Line 10
I need to find all Lines (column b) as my reference to get the column D records using Excel Macro and paste or copy to another worksheet. Is this possible to use the IF to get the data from Column D or Looping. How to make this in Excel Macro.
Desired Result:
Line1|87
I have a spreadsheet that I'm working on and I'd like to include a beforesave macro to format the spreadsheet. Basically I need a macro to select all rows with data in column 'a' and add a thick border to the top of the cells. Ideally the border would stop at column 'i' but that's not essential. I've attached an example of what I'd like. I've included 2 sheets 1 called 'before' and 1 called 'after'. They show what I'm after.

Any way to use a find and replace function involving a cell reference. I have a spreadsheet with ton of junky text burying information that I want. Here is a simplified example
A B
Book 345353hg dgdgsdgfd fff Book belongs to Jim
Sneaker fdg4 Sneaker is worn by Jan
Gum dfg s d e te4345Gum tastes great
Cake jklsjflsjfjikCake smells delicious
The pattern is that the A1 text appears in the B2 text. What I want is
Find *A1
Replace with blank
Find *A2
Replace with blank
and etc.
So that in the end, I get this:
B2
belongs to Jim
is worn by Jan
tastes great
smells delicious
I've looked at the functions of find, replace, substitute, left, and right and I can't seem to find the right one to do what I need.
