Conditional Format Duplicates Ignore Certain Criteria?
Jul 30, 2014
I have conditionally formatted a column of staff names where duplicates are highlighted - this is fine but there are some duplicates that I do not want to include - these all have the same criteria in that they include the suffix (v)
I posted a thread a while ago asking for a formula to rank based on multiple criteria (Rank On Multiple Criteria). The following; = SUMPRODUCT(--($A$2:$A$50=$A2),--($B$2:$B$50=$B2),--($D$2:$D$50=$D2),--($G2>$G$2:$G$50))+1)
works an absoulte treat, however is there a way to modify it so that does not allow duplicates? The data in the G column refers to time values acheived during testing of athletes, the problem arises when two athletes achieve the same score and thus they are ranked the same. However, body mass is also measured (F column) and in essence the athlete with the lower body mass has achived the better score and thus should be ranked accordingly.
I'd like to give a conditional format to a range of cells so that only one cell in the range has a gray background. The condition must include three criteria: 1) The cell cannot be blank, AND 2) The cell's value must be the minimum in the range, AND 3) The cell's value must not equal any value preceding it in the range.
My own attempt looks like this for cell J8 in the range C8:AF8: =AND(NOT(ISBLANK(J8)),J8=MIN($C8:$AF8),J8$C8:I8)
Problem: This condition works great for all values entered EXCEPT ZERO. When J8 is the first zero in the range, if it is preceded by a blank cell anywhere else in the range, it fails the third criterion (J8$C8:I8) because Excel treats the blank cell as though it's a zero. Result: no gray background.
In column C, I have a list of phone numbers of some 10,000 items. In column F I have 50 telephone numbers. I need a formula or a conditional formatting solution that will allow me to mark/indicate/color those numbers in column C that are in column F.
I have a column of numbers and want to make sure everything has been entered correctly from our scanning software. Basically, I want to automatically highlight any cell that has any letter in it (e.g. z12o2 instead of 21202 or R705 instead of 5705), ignoring any cells that contain only numbers. I haven't had any luck using conditions based on formulas like =ISTEXT.
When I input in cell D3 with 1 and E3 with 7 or below, the cell of E3 will be red color. when I input in cell D3 with 1 and E3 with 8 and above, the cell of E3 will be green. When I input in cell D3 with 2 and E3 with 15 and below, the cell of E3 will be red color. when I input in cell D3 with 2 and E3 with 16 and above the cell of E3 will be green.
What I am looking to do is format a row so that it is highlighted if one cell in that row meets one of two criteria or if another cell in that row meets one of two criteria: I was hoping to use the excel conditional formating tool but I'm stumped as I need 4 criteria and it can only do 3 criteria.
The cells in question require a greater than or less than criteria. If could use something like: Formular is =$AJ16 <= -0.11 or =$AJ16 >= 0.11 and Formular is =$AK16 <= -0.11 or =$AK16 >= 0.11 I would be very happy but it won't let me do this - is there a way it can be done?
I have a spreadsheet that requires me to manually hunt down records that match based on several different criteria. this is very time consuming and inefficient. i would like to find a way to highlight certain records that match based on several different fields. i have posted an example spreadsheet that also has a more detailed description of what i am trying to do; which is located in the second sheet.
I have a pivot table to show the number of complaints by site and by type of complaint. This is not providing the correct information as each complaint can have can have multiples line attached to it. I only want to count the complaint once. For Example, There are 13 site locations, and several different types of complaint.
I have this formula below it will return multiple results is it possilbe to modified it that it will return multiple results but ignore duplicates. I would like it to be a stand alone formula no helper cells or helper columns.
I need to write a macro for find a value in all sheets in current workbook. The problem is put like this: I have to write a ID (for DVD archiving) in a column but testing that generated value is unique in entire workbook (I have multiple sheets, organized by movie genre). I can use find method and testing for value <> Nothing but it always said that the value is present (the current cell value); there is any method to omit selected cell value? I think "After:=" parameter can do this but I don't figure out how to handle with it...
I am having 2 problems with dynamic named ranges. On one hand, I am getting a LOT of duplicates in some ranges and a lack of entries in those ranges that have too many blanks. Here is a sample of the dynamic named range in the first column:
This first range is called "NamedRange_1" =OFFSET(Data!$A$2,0,0, COUNTA(Data!$A:$A)-1,1)
how to eliminate both the duplicates and the blanks?
1. Where there is data in column B 2. Goto first row of data 2. If column J = "Closed" 3. then select Cells from column B to J in that row and colour these cells in red 4. If column J= "Open" 5. the select Celss from column B to J in that row and colour these cells in grey 4. Repeat for next row until you get to cell in column B where there is no data.
Recieve run time error 1004: Method 'RAnge of object_GLobal failed
=============================================================== Sub Colourclosed() Sheets("Risks").Select Dim LastRow As Long Dim i As Long LastRow = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row For i = 8 To LastRow If Range("J" & i).Value = "Closed" Then Range("B", "J" & i).Select Selection.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
Note: I've managed to do it for one cell ie for Column B by replacing "If Range("J" & i).Value = "Closed" Then Range("B", "J" & i).Select with "If Range("J" & i).Value = "Closed" Then Range("B" & i).Select" This works but only colours in cell in column B, how do i do this so it colours range of cells
I have tried to set up a list of cells to highlight in red any numerical values which are greater than 0 using conditional formatting. This works fine, except that all blank cells are also highlighted in red. Formula is currently: cell value is greater than 0. What do I need to do to ignore the empty cells?
I'd like to compare two columns of data and highlight where a value doesn't occurr in both columns. The problem I have is that one of the columns uses * around the text to ensure it catches all variations of the value.
I have the following formula which would work if the data was exactly the same.
However, these *'s are meaning it never works.
Is there a way to make it so that if the values with the *'s are not found in the 1st column of data, conditional formatting is activated?
I have conditionally formatted (Bold Italic) some data (the highest value in each column) and I have a macro that hides rows dependent on one value in that row. However I would like the conditional formatting to apply only to the visible cells, so that if the maximum value is in a row that is hidden the conditional formatting is applied to the highest, non-hidden value.
I have set up a formula to count the occurrences of multiple conditions in a table of data (see below..) the formula reads from 4 cells of criteria but I will not always use the 4 criteria and maybe only need to use say 2 criteria - when I do this my formula doesn't work - my example below shows this... How do I make the formula continue to work when some criteria cells don't have any entries?
This table is a simple example but my main work will have a much larger table (poss. several thousand rows) and probably about 10 criteria cells, so running a big formula with 10 nested IF statements will be too cumbersome... any smart workround for this within the SUMPRODUCT formula?
I am working on the monthly duty roster that is attached. I have the cells at the bottom configured to total how many early shifts, late shifts and off days each Trooper has. My problem is that I often need to add text to show what type of leave is being taken, or numbers to correspond to the special notes section numbered 1-24, and so on.
Is there any way to use conditional formatting to do this so that the totals at the bottom still sum correctly? Badge numbers are used to identify each Trooper. I have included them at the top for reference. The reason that I referenced them to total by cell instead of individual badge numbers is that I am attempting to format this so that any badge numbers can be entered at the top. This form will be used by other groups of Troopers if I can get it to work.
I have a worksheet (Data) that lists when pupils are in for Nursery sessions during the week. If they are in they have a 3 (hours) by their name in the relevant columns.
In the AM worksheet I now need to pull through a "register" so under each daily heading I need to pull through everyone that has a 3 next to their name under Monday AM / Tuesday AM / Wednesday AM etc. from the Data sheet. However, I don't want it to copy any blank cells. I then need to do the same for the PM sheet.
I have a Sheet ( Named "Summary" for Example ) of about 4,000 Rows that has a LOT of Conditional Formatting.
I Added Another 100 Rows this Morning and when I Tried Saving it a Message Saying that Not All the Formatting for the New Data that had Been Added had Been Saved. Is there a Macro or Something I can Run that will Make the Conditionally Formatted Cells Stay the Colour that they are but Delete the Conditional Formatting Part of it Achieved Using "Format" & "Conditional Format" from the Menu Please.
Ideally I would like to be Able to Enter the Number of Rows ( From Row ? to Row ? ) that I want this to Apply to.
I have five fields that have a conditional format applied to them: (see attached). Columns J, K, L, N and O. These conditionals highlight if a minimum number is entered. Ex. Minimum pushups for a 30 y/o male is 27, if a 26 is entered it highlights red. The total score (where I need this to perform) is calculated in column Q. It will format red if the total score is below 75 but what I can't figure out is how to make it format if any of the previous minimums have not been met.
Ex. In cell L4, his crunches were 25 (a automatic failure -- red formatting). Now the total score is above 75 so it calculates as passing (green), but I need it to highlight red regardless because of the minimum not met in cell L4.
I have a range which has conditional formats based on other cells. I want to copy this range into another sheet and retain the current formats as fixed formats without copying the conditional formulae. ideally in VBA.
