Convert Fractional Odds To Decimals
May 29, 2007
When exporting a set of historical sports results to Excel 2003 the numeric odds are converted to a date eg 7/2 changes to 07-Feb. Can this be prevented or adjusted to retain the original data.
Also if I may ask can the UK style odds be converted to a decimal style. Eg. 7/2 (UK) needs to be converted to 4.5 ( Decimal equivalent )

I am trying to convert Degrees Minutes & Decimals of a minute (12° 34.567') to Degrees and decimals of a degree (12.57611°). I have the formula to convert latitude, that is two digits, but it doesn't want to work with longitudes, three digits. (see attachment). This is the formula that I am using:
=IF(A2="","",(INT((LEFT(A2,3)+MID(A2,4,6)/60)*100000)/100000)&"d")

1.25 is in cell A1. This number will often be buried in a longer part number that may look like ELL-1.25-S40.
I would like to use a formula in cell A2 to display the fractional equivalent (1-1/4).

I know that if I enter =3/4 in a cell it will give me .75 but is there is formula to convert fractions into decimals or is this the best way to do it? I was also wondering if there is some way to convert the decimal amount to a fraction
for measurement conversions I know that
=B3*25.4 will convert a decimal to mm and so will the formula =CONVERT(E4,"in","mm")
and to convert mm to a decimal a few formula that work are
=CONVERT(H3,"mm","in")
=MROUND(H4/25.4, 1/8)
=H5/25.4
=INT(H6/25.39999918*8)/8
But is there a way to convert a fraction to the decimal and is there a way to convert mm to a fraction instead of the decimal equivalent of the fraction?
or maybe a formula to convert mm to inches but instead of the result being in decimal format it would be in fraction format?

I had a similar problem a day or two ago in converting Deg Min.dec to Deg.dec and it has happened again. This time I want to convert Degrees Minutes & Seconds to Degrees.decimals.
The formula I am using works for a two digit number Lat. but not 3 Long.?? Here it is below:
=+IF(A2<>"",INT((LEFT(A2,3)+MID(A2,4,2)/60+MID(A2,7,4)/3600)*100000)/100000&"d","")

My problem with fractional numbers in a textbox. But I still have issues. This time I'm uploading the workbook in question. click on the word "AutoVIB" which will bring up the user form. Then go to the Screens sheet and try the first slider that's not labeled. This is the slider that I've instituted the code that you so graciously supplied. It does display fractions but now has a very peculiar behavior. The other sliders that I've left coded as before work fine in that they function properly.

I am trying to capture the number of years/quarters are between two dates - giving credit for one day worked into the quarter.
In the attached png file you can see the formula I used for column J. This is the same formula I need to use for Column R but now using 10/1/11 and the date provided in Column R. The formula should be used in Column S "Part B" so that I can determine the number of years between 10/1/11 and the date in Column S.

This is a continuance of the Q and A below. Except the answer below converted a decimal like 1.44 to and answer like 1' 5.28".
except the final format I am after requires the 5.28" to be fractional such as:
1' - 5 1/4"
Is there a formula for this format?

I found a reference on Ozgrid.com that allows me to sum values located every 2 columns. My need now is to confirm how to do that for even and odd columns:
{=SUM(--(MOD(COLUMN($H16:$EU16),2)=MOD(COLUMN($H16),2))*($H16:$EU16))}
I think this is the correct formula to sum even columns.

I am compiling odds for football matches using the last 16 match outcome data for each team. Basically I need a solution or formula that counts the number of home wins, away wins and draws for each team in the last 16. This would basically mean allowing for the latest match outcome added into and then eliminating the 17th match back so that formulas from the last 16 matches only are always calculated. I envisage having a the data in a row of of 16 columns for each eam.

Basically all I want to do is paste some odds data in to excel and then get it to just calculate the odds for me example below
9/4 Exotic Isle, 5/2 Greenery, 5/2 Port Alfred, 6/1 Reqaaba, 12/1 Somoud
I know I can use text to columns using the deliminator to split them in cells however I just want to take the odds
So Exotic Isle would be 2.25 (9/4) Greenery would be 2.5 (5/2) and so on
I've tried using the left function basically all sorts.

I would like to randomly pick a name based on percentage. In the example below Deb takes up 50% of the wheel, if you were to spin the wheel she would have the highest chance of landing on the dial. How you could make excel randomly pick a name based these odds. The list will have over 50 names and each name will be earning points throughout the year. The more points you have the higher percentage of the pie you get and the higher your odds off getting picked in the lottery.

I have a line graph which I use in conjunction with live horseracing odds. On the vertical axis are the odds which are sourced from a worksheet. Each horse is represented by a data series that moves along the horizontal axis. The refresh rate is determined by the user embedded in the code.
I would like to expand the length of each data change along the horizontal axis as the data can be volatile. Sometimes there are rapid changes on the vertical axis which makes it difficult to interpret. With each refresh the line data moves about 3mm. It would be much better if it were about 5mm, especially as I now use a widescreen display.
There are no values on the horizontal axis as such, only time is suppose set by Excel?

e.g. A1=8.288
if I use the formula ROUND(A1,2) the result is 8.29.
But I am looking for a result 8.288. That means it shoukd not round off rather the after decimal we should have only two numbers.
8.288 should be 8.28
27.4627 should be 27.46

i have columns of prices in 2 decimal format that I'd like to manipulate, some prices are whole dollars(no cents & no decimals ) and most are dollars and cents in decimal format-- but to do it successfully, i need the decimal removed. I looked at the "format" function but it doesn't seem to allow for that.
is there any way I can have these prices converted to "cent" format( ie removing the decimal, where applicable), showing them not as "dollars & fractions" but as "cents" i'm sure that would solve the problem for me last time I did it by hand and vowed there had to be an easier way!

I am trying to put together a code so that when a user enteres more then two decimal points in the cell value they should get a warning regardless if they formatted the cell to show 2 decimals or not...
Simply the problem is on the sheet I have a lot of people format the cell to show two decimals but when you copy and paste the cell values to other sheets the decimals are still there which causes problems.
I am intermediete in VBA so if someone can shoot me some example codes I think I can make it work on my sheet.

I'm copying a column range containing numbers with varying decimals from one worksheet to another. The new worksheet and column are set to have no more than two decimals places in the cells through the formatting options.
However, numbers stay showing their original amount of decimal places, so I tried hard-coding the format with:
Sheets("Toolset Scorecard").Columns("G:G").NumberFormat = "0.00"

Let's say I have a set of values (A1:A10) where each contains a number, with a varied amount of decimal places (some may have 0, some may have 10)...how can I make a formula in cell B1 that averages A1:A10, ignoring the decimal places (rounding to the nearest whole number)
For example, if this was A1:A10
93.11
94
92.12321
95.1
96.7
98.1
99
100.03
88.6677
85.6675
If I did the Average (=AVG(A1:A10)), I would get 94.2498. But I don't want this, I want the formula to take into account the numbers rounded to the nearest whole number, meaning, I want to take the average of..
93
94
92
95
97
98
99
100
89
86
Which would give me a value of 94.3.. In this example, there isn't much of a difference, but I was simplifying the numbers for time sake

I want round off number to be with the decimals (usually decimals r discarded for round off feature). I ll be able to explain better with an example.
10.36+10.36= 20.72. If i round it up, it vl be 21.
what i am tryin is to get 21.00 after round off.
I prepare my bills in excel and after total of all products, if i get a decimal number, I would like it be rounded off to whole number with decimal and 00 at the end (eg. 21.00 instead of 21.27 or 22.00 instead of 21.77). I tried to change decimals but when I select 2 decimal places, it gives me the actual fig(eg. 21.27 instead of 21.00)
I am already using =sum for the total so cannot use another formula (as far as i know, 1 cell can have only 1 formula. Dunno if multiple can be used in a single cell).
