I am trying to figure out a formula that will count the number of times part of another cell is contained within a range. More specifically, I have a 2 worksheets, worksheet one contains dates for 7 days that change weekly and worksheet two contains ticket created.
Sheet one is named "tables" and sheet two is named "raw data".
Here is where the plot tickens,
The date format in "raw data" is date plus time, i.e. "3/29/2008 13:40" the date format in "tables" is just date, i.e. 3/29/2008, ".
I want to tell excel: In "raw data" Look for cells in range C2:C500 that contain the first part of the cell S5 in "tables". Something like this:
=COUNTIF(C2:C500,*TABLES!S5*)
I tried using the * wildcard so it would return the number of cells that contain the same part from cell S5 from "tables" but necessarily the same exact value.
I'm a newbie to these forums, but I had a question that I couldn't find an answer to in the search feature. So, I joined and here I go....
I have a whole lotta data (nearly 600 "pages" of data) that I pasted into Excel. Unfortunately, it's formatted poorly and I'd like to make it nice and purty.
What I started to do was to create a 2nd sheet and then do an "=" and then click the spot with the 'group name' and then another "=" underneath it and then clicked the spot with the 'premium' info, etc.
After a couple of these, I figured that I could simply make a formula to help me out with it. Please see the attached screen captures for some detail on my issue.
Can someone help me create a formula or a way to count a certain cell and then 52 cells underneath it and display it?
In any case, what I have is a set of cells that may or may not be filled, and which frequently get changed around. As I need the data counted in a specific way for "shenanigans", I am... getting quite tired with having to manually adjust this whenever my co-workers decide to adjust something (and I have been told that throwing bricks at them until they stop is not a valid option).
Basically, I want to count the cells in a way so that for every time a cell is filled, a counter repeats the previous number before continuing the sequence.
I.e
Dog 1
Rat 1
[code]....
My issue is that I have no idea how to get this to count right. I know the theory of how I want this to work, but I just have no idea how to get it to function. The logic of how I want it to count is below, but, again, I just have no idea how to go about getting it to work right without manually typing in the counter, and without ending up with the code working wrongly when there's two filled cells at the top.
Simply need a cell to count another cell is equal to certain value.
For example if B3 has a value of 6 then I need J3 to equal 1 or if B3 is equal to 3 than I need G3 to equal one. I tried the the COUNTIF but I am sure i am using it incorrectly.
I have been looking through about 4 pages of these threads and searching the internet and can't seem to find my answer.
I am trying to count about 400 cells in column N if a different criteria is true in column M. The numbers in row N are a dollar amount, and the criteria in column M is the type of donor. I need to know how many donors there are of each type. The trick is that there are two other columns with dollar amounts for each donor, and I am also counting based on what event donors made gifts for.
Column M - Donor Type (designed by a letter "E", "A", or "P") Column N - Annual Appeal (dollar amount by each donor) Column O - Off-cycle (dollar amount by each donor) Column P - Event (dollar amount by each donor)
I have a summary chart at the top of all this that should be able to tell me how many donors of type E donated for the Annual Appeal, how many donors of type E donated for the Off-Cycle, and how many donors of type E donated for the Event, etc based on donor type.
I've tried COUNTIF using multiple criteria, SUMPRODUCT, all kinds of things. Usually what happens is a get a #VALUE returned or the function counts the total number of donors by type (ie 269 E donors when what I want to know is how many of those donors donated to the Annual Appeal).

I am trying to get my Excel Worksheet to count the times that a cell changes. The data is in Column C, and I want to enter it in column H. For example. If Currently, the count in C1 is 5, but changes to 4, H1 should read one, then the next day, if I change the value from 4 to 7, H1 should read 2, and so forth and so forth. I am counting the amount of changes to a cell.
I want it going the length of the column, but for each cell, like C2 lines up with H2 and so forth. I have looked everywhere for a particular Macro, but am having a hard time finding one.
I have a problem to count some words in a column: in fact, in the cell they can write several words and my objective is to count in this column how many times there is the word "info" but as they can write several words in the same cell,(for example: speciality, info, degree) I can t really count how many times the word info is written in the column.

The words I am looking for are "John" and "02/13/2007" and the count should be 2. I bolded what should be counted.
I'm trying to run monthly averages over 34 years. Data has been summed for each month (jan, feb, mar, etc.) but I need to return the number of years of data collected for each month. However, certain years for a month may be missing data, returning blank cells. How do I count all the january months, february, so on and so forth? I will be doing this a few hundred times and need an equation.
I want to count every time a certain cell changes. For example, if C2 is currently set at August 5, 2007 and I change it to August 12, 2007, then add 1 to cell B2.
Is it possible to count the entries into a cell? Example cell A1 (=5+5+5) this would total 15 but could it count that there were 3 entries? Is it possible to do it both postive and negative. Cell A1 (5+5-1) this would total 9 but it would count 2 if you want negative entries subtracted. or it could count 3 if you wanted all entries. I think this would be two different formulas.
i have a large spreadsheet tracking a few hundred accounts. I've color coded the accounts based on thier status - Red = stalled, Yellow = In Process & Green = "complete". I would like to do a formula, much like "countif", but one that counts the amount of red, green & yellow accounts in a cell range.
I'm trying to count the number of characters (including spaces) in a cell - is there a formula for this?? =CELL I thought would do it but doesn't
PS What I'm actually trying to do is return the Surname in a cell containing a full name. I can get the first name easy enough with =left(A1,Find(" ",A1)-1 (I take no credit for that...) but can't get the surname - I thought I might be able to use =right but can't.
