Excel 2003 :: Printing Multiple Files With Explorer But Asks To Save Changes?
Dec 7, 2012
When selecting multiple excel files in explorer, you can right click and choose to print the selected documents. All documents gets opened and printed but the files stay open and you have to manually click on YES or NO to save the changes.
Is there a way not to see this window appear. So documents get opened and printed and closes itself without asking anything. Maybe it can be done with an option in the preferences. I'm not sure.
By the way the documents where created with excel vba just in case it's relevant. Also the version of Excel is an older version, I think it was Excel XP or 2002/2003.

I'm trying to print out multiple excel sheets in which it asks me if I want to save the changes or not every time. I have macro settings set to low so I always accept the macros, if I don't have them set to low I'm always asked the question of whether or not I want to run the macro for over 20+ files. Anyone ever had similar problems when printing multiple files?

I'm new to this forum and to VBA
First-off, I'm using Excel 2003 SP3.
The setup: A software application I regularly use produces csv data files (in this case approx 300 files). These I have converted to xls format using a separate macro. The files are in one folder and named as follows eg
G1 18800.xls
G1 18802.xls
G2 18975.xls
G3 19881.xls
G3 19990.xls
G5 19990.xls
etc
The files contain the following data:
DATE TIME VALUE STEPS EXCL ACCEL
01-Oct-03 08:00 0 0 FALSE 0
01-Oct-03 08:01 0 0 FALSE 0
01-Oct-03 08:02 0 0 FALSE 0
01-Oct-03 08:03 0 0 FALSE 0
01-Oct-03 08:04 757 20 FALSE 0.18
01-Oct-03 08:05 1714 32 FALSE 0.44
01-Oct-03 08:06 1524 32 FALSE 0.39
01-Oct-03 08:07 1665 45 FALSE 0.47
01-Oct-03 08:08 1644 42 FALSE 0.46
01-Oct-03 08:09 263 8 FALSE 0.06
etc
I then created a macro using code I sourced from the internet, and included some addtional commands (filename, copy/paste). See below. This macro opens the all the xls data files in the folder and copies the relevant data to an analysis workbook [Analysis sheet, Results sheet, Master sheet] ie the data is copied from the data file and pasted into the Analysis worksheet. Then the results are copied from the Results sheet to the Master sheet. So far so everything works.
My problem is this: I'm stumped at how to delete rows from the xls data files before running the analysis workbook and macro. In other words, after converting the csv files to xls format I need to clean the xls data files.
I have a separate xls file with criteria data in two columns:
FileName Date
G1 18800 06-Oct-03
G1 18801 02-Oct-03
G1 18801 03-Oct-03
G1 18801 05-Oct-03
G2 18795 14-Oct-03
G2 18795 15-Oct-03
G2 18795 16-Oct-03
G2 18795 17-Oct-03
etc
The rows in a particular data file, with dates that are not present in the Criteria workbook must be deleted. This to be done for every data file in the folder. Also, I need to exclude rows for specific time periods eg 12H00AM - 04H00AM from all the files irrespective of date.
the code needed [should a separate macro be run or can code be placed within the present macro?]. I've tried looking for something similar on the internet, but my requirements seem too customized to be able to adapt the code that I found. And of course this is waaaay above my present skill level!
Option Explicit
Sub CopyPaste()
'This code opens up data files (xls) in a specified folder and copies data A1:G17281 to an Analysis workbook (Analysis sheet).
'The data from the Results sheet is then copied to the Master sheet.
Dim wkbDest As Workbook
Dim wksDest As Worksheet
Dim wkbSource As Workbook
Dim wksSource As Worksheet
Dim MyPath As String
Dim MyFile As String

In Excel 2007, Hyperlinks in cells pointing to jpg files in a subfolder display with internet explorer. On my WinXP/Intnernet Explorer 8/Office 2007 system these links work fine.
When sending the excel and jpg files to another person with Win7/Office 10, jpg hyperlinks work and launch Internet Explorer but come up blank. (Hyperlinks to PDF files work fine and show up in Acrobat, just the jpg's come up blank in Explorer.)
Questions:
What is causing this, a setting in Explorer/Win7 or Excel?
Can I change Excel hyperlink default software to use something other than Explorer to display the jpg files?

I have some code that does some maintenance on my workbook, calls a second macro to delete all of the VBA and saves it with a new name.
However, after it finishes and I try to exit Excel, I am still prompted to save the workbook. I'm not sure why because the last thing my code does is save the workbook and no additional changes have been made.
Code:
'Loop through all cells
For Each Sht In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets
With Sht

I have an expense report, which was originally done in Excel 2003. It still prompts users to open as read only however if they select no, they are not prompted for the password, and it has allowed them to save, so when the next person opens it, they have the previous person's report instead of the clean workbook. I have tried everything to put a password onto it. I know this is really basic stuff, but maybe I am missing a step? I want the end user to be able to make all the changes they want in read only mode and then do a save as, but if the select No when prompted "Open as Read-only?" they should have to put a password in.

I have a excel file that I enter information into. I have code that saves the files to a certain folder with the name, date, and time stamp for the file name. At the end of the day I might have 3 to 15 excel files I have created that day and I would like to take information from certain cells (examle: L3, B6, B7, B8, G8, and so on) and create a txt file with all of the information in it.
Example:
12/20/2007
Your Name
123 Somewhere St.
Here, OH 45111
Home Visit
12/20/2007
Someone Else
345 Anywhere St.
There, OH 45211

She has a spreadsheet created in Excel 2003 (she is still using 2003) which contains an image with a textbox in the top left corner then all other cells contain data.
When user prints this spreadsheet all that prints is the image and the textbox.
I have cleared the print area reset the print area removed the picture (prints only the text box)
and none of these changes have changed what prints.
I have checked all printer setting and these appear normal.
previously user could print this spreadsheet fine and all other worksheets in the workbook print fine as well.
other users are still able to print to the same printer correctly from this spreadsheet.

I am trrying to save an Excel 2003 file as text. This is how the cells appear in Excel.
:20:CBR:32A:040112GBP4000,00:50a:/To Be Pre-Populated:57a://SC112233:59:/93442134:70:
Each is fine except
:32A:040112GBP4000,00
which appears as
":32A:040112GBP4000,00"
These speech marks are not wanted but I can't find a save format that does not insert them.

I enter 13 digit number in a cell, when I save my Worksheet in CSV format the number is changed.
Example:
I enter 9328627000014 (this is a barcode) After saving this file the number is displayed in the Formula Bar as 9328630000000 and in the Cell it show up as 9.33E+12 When I go to Format Cells, this cell is selected as Scientific. When I change it to Number, after saving it again it returns back to scientific with the old display. Also when I enter 2 digit number in another cell in another column and I choose to be displayed as number with 2 decimal places, after saving the file it returns back as General format. When I am saving this file as CSV a window pops up with a warning that my file may contain features that are not compatible with CSV. I can not choose text format in the cell because it is a datafeed and it has to be read correctly as number.
I use Microsoft Office 2003.

I have some daily text files in a folder (so about 30 of them each month), which in the end of month, I need to open them up in excel, format them so that I can use the information for my analysis.
I would like to create a macro, to quickly open them all up at once and save them each individually in .xls or .xlsm format.
I am new to VBA and after some research online, I was able to have the files open with the following code. but now I don't know how to proceed further to save them one by one with the same name but in .xls or .xlsm format.
Sub Opentxtfiles()
Dim MyFolder As String
Dim myfile As String

I'm doing a Vlookup and when I copy down the formula Excel asks me to update the values by opening a new document. But this I can't or don't want to do - but I can't get rid of the box that asks me update the values with a new file.
How to remove this?

I have the following code which edits an excel file and saves it in a different format, I think want the code to take this newly saved file and open it in an external application (Softplot) and then save it through this new application.
VB:
Sub FormatMacro1a(ws As Worksheet)
ws.Copy
Rows(1).Delete
Columns("D:E").Cut Destination:=Columns("J:K")
Columns("F:K").Cut Destination:=Columns("D:I")
Range("E1:E201").Value = "0"
[Code] .....
As it stands I have the file saving in a new format and I can open a specific file in softplot through VBA however where I am getting stuck is opening my newly saved file and then saving it.
I have tried the following :
VB:
Path = "C:Program FilesSoftPlot-8softplot.exe"
File = "ActiveWorkbook"

Perhaps, this question is much more related to Windows API but I thought of posting it here incase I get some more ideas.
I am looking forward to develop a program wherein I can prevent or avoid an Excel file being overwritten by a different file with the same name in the same location in windows explorer.
After a rapid search on the internet I have got something which I could use but that would just serve me the purpose of retreiving the overwritten file in windows explorer.

I will have about 20 excel spreadsheets that will need to be run through some data cleansing and validation than each one exported to a csv file (without the column headings on them), and saved as the same file name as the spreadsheet was. If there are errors in the validation process then the one that fails (row) will be copied to an error log spreadsheet. There will be multiple worksheets in the error log workbook (one for each of the spreadsheets – which I hope VBA can create). What I am doing so far is creating a loop that will run on all of the spreadsheets located within a folder.
'Procucedure that will run all validation processes and error checking on extracteds spreadsheets
Sub RunCodeOnAllXLSFiles()
Dim i As Integer
Dim wbResults As Workbook
Dim wbCodeBook As Workbook
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
Application.EnableEvents = False
On Error Resume Next
Set wbCodeBook = ThisWorkbook
With Application.FileSearch
.NewSearch..............................

Using Excel Office 2003.
I have been using VBA to copy and move files to create backups for 7 or 8 years now, and it works great. However, recently I have been working on a way to use SD cards for the backups and the FileCopy command is much slower than using Windows Explorer.
I am looking for some alternate command lines that might do the job faster. I would like to know what Explorer is using.

I want to get a vba which will convert an excel with different tabs to individual text files. IT MUST BE PIPE DELIMITED.
So if there is an .xls file with 5 different tabs, i should get 5 text files with each text file getting name of the worksheet it was created from.
I have a similar code but somehow it is doing the conversion only for last worksheet, also it is saving the file in the same name as workbook.
Code:
Sub save_as_text()
Dim i As Long, txt As String, delim As String
delim = "|"
With ActiveSheet.UsedRange
For i = 1 To .Rows.Count
txt = txt & vbCrLf & _
Join(Evaluate("transpose(transpose(" & .Rows(i).Address & "))"), delim)
Next
End With
Open Replace(ThisWorkbook.FullName, ".xls", ".txt") For Output As #1
Print #1, Mid$(txt, 2)
Close #1
End Sub

Is there a way to convert all files in folder, in this case, xml in excel format to xls without open them?
I recorded the macro below, but this needs to "Open" and "SaveAs" the current file in folder and there are a few thousands of xml files in folder.
I was wondering if through some ADO or VBA code this can be done without open the files in order to save resources and get the work done faster?
Code:
Sub Convert_XML_to_XLS()
Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:MyPathInputFile.xml"
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="C:MyPathInputFile.xlsx" _
, FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbook, CreateBackup:=False '

I am having trouble getting Excel 2007 on my work computer to save as .xlsx by default.
I have opened the Office Button > Excel Options > Save > Save files in this format and selected "Excel Workbook (*.xlsx)," and if I save as before closing Excel then it works perfect and saves the file as .xlsx. However if I close Excel, re-open it later and save a new file the default "Save as type:" is "Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)" and if I open the save options again the "Save files in this format" option is reverted back to "Excel 97-2003 Workbook (*.xls)."
I have finally overcome the [Compatibility Mode] issue by saving a file named "Book.xltx" (not "Book1.xltx") in the two default locations "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12XLSTART" and "D:Documents and SettingsusernameApplication DataMicrosoftExcelXLSTART" (we use the D: drive at work for personal files). I thought this would solve the save as issue but it hasn't. I have also changed the "Save files in this format" before saving the .xltx files in the locations to apply the settings to those specific files but that hasn't worked.
It is on my work computer so I am limited in what settings I can change because they have them pretty well locked down.
