Deleting Rows That Have Dependent Cells. Prevent !#REF Value

Oct 27, 2007

Deleting rows that have dependent cells.

I have one sheet that uses a very simple formula for copying certain values from one cell to another sheet “=VALUE(Sheet1!B5)”.

My problem is that rows have to be deleted in sheet1 as the information eventually becomes expired and the following is displayed in my cell in
sheet 2 “=VALUE (Sheet1!#REF!)” Is there a work round this, to prevent the formula showing a #REF! Value.

Row 5 is replaced and the same formula has to be re-entered. Excel 97 used in our office unfortunately.

Prevent Linked Cells Showing Error When Deleting Rows On Other Sheet

Feb 14, 2013

I want to establish a link from my worksheets. Using the conventional link method I was able to link the values from my first worksheet to the second worksheet. My problem is when I delete a particular row. The reference of the second worksheet will have an error #REF! since I deleted those cells. Is there any way that I can link my two worksheets without any error that even if I deleted a particular cell/row the reference is still intact?

Prevent #REF! Error When Deleting Rows

Prevent Formula References Changing When Deleting Rows

Apr 21, 2008

What I have is basically a form on the main sheet. Here other users can add and/or delete information in a form. I refer to the information in another sheet with formulas.

Now everything was great when using protections/ validations, to the where they fill in the information, but the problem occur when they are allowed to delete and remove rows.

This is something that I want to allow them, even though I do realise that this is something that many advice against it.

To begin with I found the post about changing relative references to absolute references (ConvertFormula). Still the formulas changes when rows are added or deleted and I would have to redo all formulas and run the macro again. I then found posts advicing on the use of the INDIRECT forumla. This formula was exactly what I needed as the formulas would not alter when rows were added/deleted. Now the problem is a combination of the use of INDIRECT and the the ConvertFormula. Now if I write a formula, for example:

=INDIRECT("'Sheet1'A1")

Then when I try to expand the formula over to the rest of the cells, then the references stay pointing at A1, when I want them to continue pointing at A2, A3, etc...

Now what I am looking for is some way to tell all my formulas, after expanding the original formula, that they should all have the INDIRECT function. If it was possible it would be great if you could implement it in the same way as with the absolute reference, for example:

For i = 1 To MyRange.Areas.Count
MyRange.Areas(i) = Application.ConvertFormula(MyRange.Areas(i).Formula, xlA1, xlA1, xlIndirect)
Next i

Now the above code sample does not work of course, as there should be xlAbsolute instead of xlIndirect, but I hope you understand my intention. Do anyone have the answer to my problem? Is there an easy way to implement the INDIRECT function into a big amount of formulas?

Prevent Formula From Updating When Deleting Cells / Sheets

Nov 5, 2008

I've got a workbook that I'm currently designing and I've just realised that I need to delete a few sheets, paste in some new template sheets and rename them. The problem is, I've already completed my summary sheets and I don't want to have to redo the values. Essentially, I just want to (temporarily) turn off auto-updating of formulas when cells / sheets are changed/moved/deleted.

For practical purposes: I need to delete the sheet named "Jan", paste in a new sheet "MonthTemp", rename "MonthTemp" to "Jan" and have all my formulas not updated (e.g. still referencing "Jan" instead of "#REF!")

How To Prevent Deleting Of Cells Missing Function Ranges

Oct 31, 2011

I have macro that brings information from outlook to excel. In the beginning of macro, it deletes range of cells. That destroys the functions that target those cells. Is there a way avoid that? Using some different method or ?

Code:

Dim olApp As Outlook.Application
Dim olNS As Outlook.Namespace
Dim myCalItems As Outlook.Items
Dim ItemstoCheck As Outlook.Items

[Code] ........

Running the macro messes up all funtions that targets those cells.

Like:

Code:

=DATEVALUE(MID(data!#REF!;4;2)&"."&LEFT(data!#REF!;2)&"."&RIGHT(data!#REF!;2))

This really great code to get data from outlook is originally: [URL] ........

Prevent Others From Deleting Worksheets

Jun 6, 2006

I'm on a system using Windows XP with several user accounts. It's possible to share a document by putting it in a directory called, unsurprisingly, "Shared files' or somesuch. Anyway, I wish to put one of my Excel spreadsheets into this directory so that other users can see it. The workbook itself has about 10 worksheets and I want other people to be able to edit only one of them. So I used the "Protect Worksheet" option within Excel to protect those worksheets I don't want edited. However, I notice that it's still possible to delete a worksheet even though its protected. Is there a way to prevent from deleting worksheets?

Deleting Duplicate Rows :: Compare 2 Cells Per Row

Sep 22, 2008

I have a spreadsheet that I need to delete duplicate rows in. However, in order to determine if a row is a duplicate I need to check 2 cells per row. In the attached file you will see that each row has 4 cells. I need to compare the cells in columns B and C with the B and C cells of the Row beneath. If the B and C cells match then it is considered a duplicate and one of the rows needs to be deleted. Also, there may be multiple duplicate rows.

For an example see rows 17, 18 and 19. I only need 1 row to remain.

I am looking for a vb script that would analyze a file with thousands of rows and delete the duplicates.

Deleting Duplicate Cells (not Entire Rows)

Dec 17, 2007

I have a long list (over 1000 lines) of numbers, some of which are duplicated. Up to now I have been sorting them, adding in a simple check column to see if the number is a duplicate of the one below, and then manually deleting this cell.

Is there a better way to do this using VBA? The only way I have managed to find is by deleting the entire row, but I cannot do this as I have additional data to the right that I need to keep.

I also cannot install any add-ons as this on a work computer.

Deleting Rows Where Cells In Multiple Columns Are Blank

Apr 17, 2013

I work with a spreadsheet every week to input values and subtotal them. These values change constantly and instead of going through and manually deleting each row in a 100+ row spreadsheet to be able to import into another program, I'm looking for an quicker way to keep my data in order but consolidate by getting rid of only the rows where both column A and B are blank.

Here's an example of what I'm working with:

5
10
15
20
50
2
4
6
8
20

This is what I need the final product to look like:

5
10
15
20
50
2
4
6
8
20

So I would like to quickly delete rows 2, 5, and 11. All of the other answers I've found only show how to delete rows based on empty cells in only 1 column. How can I quickly delete the rows where both columns are empty?

Conditional Formatting: Reference Changes Adding/Deleting Rows/Columns Or Cells

I'm using Conditional Formatting for an entire column to check the value of each cell and compare it to the value of a cell in the same row but a different column. (Cell Value equals =$D2) It works great until I insert or delete a cell in the formatted column. The reference does not change as one would expect. I've played around with formulae such as =$D2<>$P2 but the reference only changes for the P2, not the D2. I've also tried using =CELL("contents", ADDRESS(Row(),4)) but this causes excel to complain.

The Sum Of Multiple Rows Dependent On Header

Jul 18, 2008

I have a worksheet with 30 sets of 3 columns, each column has 20 to 30 rows in use for the same realitive data. I want to get the sum for each 1x across 30 sets of the columns. I am checking vs if it says Projected or Actual. My Visual Basic macro ability is very limited at best. I have a totals row for each row of data so i can see totals for 1x over 30 days, 1.5x over 30 weeks, and 2x over 30 weeks.

Here is the basic idea of what i am dealing with:

A B C
Projected (merged across A, B, and C)
1x 1.5x 2x
8 4 1.5
7 0 0
8 2 0
8 4 5

Again, this represents one day, and I am trying to track at least 30 days across 90 columns. Also there are anywhere from 20 to 30 people being tracked at any one time so this continues to many more rows depending on the job.

Please help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Clear Rows Vs. Deleting Rows To Avoid #REF! Formula Error - Macro

Jun 9, 2009

I have a macro which is copying data from several worksheets into one consolidation worksheet. When determining where to paste the data into the consolidation sheet, the macro includes some logic to find the last row that has data in it (using e.Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Row, where "e" is a variable holding the name of the consolidation worksheet).

Once all the data is on the consolidation worksheet, I have a second worksheet with formulas that link to the consolidation sheet. The issue I have is that the first step of my consolidation macro deletes all data on the consolidation sheet to ensure that no data is double-counted). I am deleting the data with logic that simply deletes all rows from 3 to 65536. Once these rows are deleted, Excel returns a #REF! error on my second worksheet which is linking back to this data.

Rather than deleting the rows on the consolidation sheet, I have tried using the Clear and/or ClearContents commands instead. This works (i.e., my formulas no longer error out), but results in the consolidation macro running very slowly (~15 minutes, compared to

Same Dependent Dropdown List In Multiple Rows

Jul 4, 2013

I have been asked to edit a worksheet for a client, they want me to create a dependent drop list using existing data from three columns.

I have created a dynamic named range and used and index to create the drop down list, which seems to work correctly. I run into a problem with I try to add the list to more than one column, as it obviously pulls in values from the Helper sheet I have used.

When the user tries to select values in row one after making a selection in row two, the values available for selection are incorrect.

Is there any way to have a three column dependent drop list that can be used in more than one row?

I have uploaded the file here: ownCloud

The information on the tab named 'Cabling Ducts' is used in an index on the 'Helper' sheet to remove duplicate values. The drop down list columns appear in 'CS 1' under the headings 'Cable Type', 'Size (mm)' and 'Cores'. Helper sheet is self explanatory.

Combine And Sum Rows Of Data In Excel Dependent On 3 Conditions?

Jan 3, 2014

I have a dataset that, due to the nature of how it is generated, separates certain orders into separate rows. Which orders these are is irrelevant, I just need a quick and easy way to make excel re-combine these rows in to one entry, and sum up the data in one particular column in the process of doing this.

The separate entries of a single order can be identified by the data in 3 columns matching - I have attached an example.

The constituent parts of the same order can be identified when the country, city, and code columns all have matching data as you read down. E.g., where

Country City Code
a 1 12345
a 1 12345
a 1 12345

Where this is the case, I want excel to automatically sum the count of shops for this order and then delete all but one of these rows, with the remaining row now containing this summed figure. Failing this, a new worksheet being generated/a new column giving me this data would be good.

Prevent Certain Rows Printing

Jan 9, 2007

By adapting a worksheet macro obtained previously via Ozgrid, I built a workbook that dynamically produces a database, in a worksheet titled “NumLtrWBS DB”, based on all possible combinations of what is listed in column A of three 3 worksheets titled: “ Num”, “Ltr” and “WBS, respectively.

The macro, named “NumLtrWBS", works wonderfully, until I add a row at the top of each list to contain a column header. The unchanged macro includes the column headers in the “produced” database. When I change the macro by altering the variable definitions to begin at A2 rather than A1, it still includes the column headers in the “produced” database. How should I change the macro so it doesn’t “produce” the column headers in the database worksheet?
