Derive Formula From Chart?

Mar 20, 2014

whether it is possible to derive the formula from a chart?

Right now, i have a chart and i want to know the formula, the purpose is to expand the values that the chart has.

Let say the chart has result at point 20, 30, 40, 50... Is it possible for me to know the point at 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and so on (with increment 1)

Derive Formula For Multiple Variables

May 11, 2014

Is it possible to find the formula of a result that is based on three other values.

Here's my example:

I give three cases, but I am sure all three use the same formula. I made the team names up but the values are 'real'.

MATCHES
TEAM NAME
TEAM RATING
OPP. RATING
POINTS DIFF.
NEW RATING

Match1
Blumps
-2.62
5.05
8
-1.28

Match2
Champs
2.8
4.08
-18
2.37

Match3
Sharps
8.26
-3.53
-16
3.68

I want to know what formula was used to calculate the New Rating in the last column. I am not 100% sure if the formula to calculate the New Ratings as shown above includes a value for home ground advantage of which I might be unaware. For what its worth, the Blumps and Sharps were home teams and the Champs was a visiting team for the three matches shown.

Derive Exponential Function From Limited Information

Dec 5, 2009

I've been working on a ss that requires me to create a function to determine a value from a exponential curve where the area of the curve is variable . The terminal points, 0,0 and 100,100 remain constant and the curve is symmetrical at the 45degree angle. How can I derive a function knowing only these things.

Here is an image to crudely illustrate what i mean [url]

The area can be 10, 20, 35% it doesn't matter, I need a way to determine the function from just the area!

Derive Curve From Values Then Apply Curve To Another Dataset?

Jun 5, 2014

I have a data set (Set#1) that consists of a positional rank (1-240) and a dollar value ($46-$1) for each positional rank. It's not a straight line set.

DataSet.JPG

What I need to do is take that curve and apply it to another data set (Set#2) (1-240) and assign a dollar value ($46-$1) to each positional rank.

A "corner cutting" way of doing it would be an Index/Match to simply carry over the dollar value from (for example) #45 from my Set#1 to #45 in my Set#2. This could work reasonably well with data sets of the same size, but mine aren't always the same size, so I need to apply the curve itself. I

Chart Not Showing Results From Formula

Jun 16, 2014

I have a spreadsheet (attached) that has a formula, which calculates the number of days between two dates if another field contains data. My problem is that when I chart the data, it isn't showing up in the chart. Cell G1 (Tab 1) contains a 1 because the document was returned 1 day late. This isn't showing up on the Chart (Tab 2).

If,average,sum Formula, For Rating Chart

Oct 3, 2008

I'm trying to get a formula working that is basically for a rating chart. The chart is somewhat simple, but the formula is a bit complex (for me anyway)

So the details are the rating is on three axis with three levels, and here is what I need to do.

At the moment the formula below works, but it isn't 100% accurate because I actually need to take an average of F5+G5 then take that value and add it to H5 then divide by two to get the proper average of the two charts. (if that makes sense.

=IF(AVERAGE(F5:H5)>2.33,"High",IF(AVERAGE(F5:H5)>1.67,"Medium",IF(AVERAGE(F5:H5)<1.67,"Low")))

Here is the formula that I thought would have worked, but Excel begs to differ

=IF(SUM((AVERAGE(F5:G5))+H5)/2>2.33,"High",IF(SUM((AVERAGE(F5:G5))+H5)/2>1.67,"Medium",IF(SUM((AVERAGE(F5:G5))+H5)/2<1.67,"Low")))

I played with the brackets quite a bit thinking I had something in the wrong order, but nothing seems to work. I always get FALSE in the field and an error as well when I enter the formula.

Using Array In Chart Series Formula?

Aug 16, 2013

I want to create 3 stacked bars on a chart, where each stacked par points to the same series data. This is for an automated reporting process and I don't want to create a 'staging' table if I don't need to. I have discovered that while the series formula can take an array in curly brackets of actual numeric values, if i fill that array with the same spreadsheet cell reference 3 times it is unable to evaluate it. By way of example:

1. This works
=SERIES(Chart1_Data!$A$7,Chart1_Data!$B$1:$D$1,Chart1_Data!$B$7:$D$7,6)

2. This works
=SERIES(Chart1_Data!$A$7,Chart1_Data!$B$1:$D$1,{592210.02,592210.02,592210.02},6)

3. This works
=SERIES(Chart1_Data!$A$7,Chart1_Data!$B$1,'MI Excel Template v.1.xlsx'!testrange,6)

4. This doesn't
=SERIES(Chart1_Data!$A$7,Chart1_Data!$B$1:$D$1,{Chart1_Data!$B$7,Chart1_Data!$B$7,Chart1_Data!$B$7},6)

Is there a solution to 4?

Formula Entry Into Chart Title

Feb 12, 2007

I've found several threads describing how to make a chart title dynamic by entering a cell reference into the formula bar with the chart title selected. I am wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to have VBA "code" a formula into a chart title that would be a concatenation of several strings. Ideally, I'd like to specify part of the title from a variable, and another part from a user-specified range, as in the following snippet from a module of mine:

ChartSubtitleText = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A5")
ActiveChart.ChartTitle.Select
Selection.Characters.Text = ChartTitleText & Chr(10) & ChartSubtitleText

where ChartTitleText is a string variable that is passed to the Sub. This works fine and correctly builds the title block during execution of the macro, but I'd like to modify the capability to allow the user to enter a new value in Sheet1!A5 and have all of the charts update dynamically without re-executing the macro. Is there a way to have VBA create the chart and build the Chart Title with a formula that will allow for dynamic updating? I've tried having it enter the following line into the formula bar, but get errors: =CONCATENATE(ChartTitleText, CHAR(10), Sheet1!A5)

Broken Line Chart With Formula

I'm trying to create some graphs with broken lines from lookup formulae, essentially what is explained at http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/broken-line.htm. My problem, however, is that my charts are rather more complicated than those outlined, having multiple series that move across the page and overlap a lot of the time. This prevents the suggestion there from being an elegant or even sufficient solution. Does anyone know of a better way of doing this that might work for my situation?

PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS TABLE IMAGE ON SAME PAGE! OTHEWISE, ERROR OF JavaScript OCCUR.

The problem is when the score is i.e. 12-3 the formula is only looking at 2-3. Hence this actually then shows as a defeat. The formula causing this problen is an array and shown as
=SUM(IF(NOT(ISERROR(LEFT(resultsHome,FIND("-",resultsHome)-1))),
--(LEFT(Results!$B3:$K3,FIND("-",Results!$B3:$K3)-1)>MID(Results!$B3:$K3,FIND("-",Results!$B3:$K3)+1,9))))
Question. How can the formula be changed to reflect scores like 12-3 to be shown as a home win.............

Offset Formula - Creating Dynamic Line Chart

All is well, except for my x-axis (which is a text axis). It currently looks like this: Dynamic axis.jpg

I am using the Offset formula. The formula for my x-axis is =OFFSET(Worksheet1!$D$4,0,-3,COUNT(Worksheet1!$D$4:$D$36)). This is to show the axis if cells in Column D are filled up appropriately.

However, in the cells containing the axis name itself, this formula is used =IF(D9=0,NA(),'Worksheet2'!A6). I've tried removing the formula from these cell, but that didn't solve the problem.

Chart Formula For Shoe Sizes & Foot Measurements

size 8 = 260 mm

So I want to create a formula, so the chart reads something like:

size 7 = 247.5mm - 252.5mm
size 7.5 = 252.5mm - 257.5mm
size 8 = 257.5mm - 262.5mm

Excel 2003 :: Daily Stock Chart AND Random Scatter Chart Data

Jan 14, 2014

I need to plot various data on top of stock charts.

This data could be irregular in date: it could be weekly, or simply random.

To plot this data by itself requires a Scatter Chart.

From what I know so far, you CANNOT DO THIS.

However, I suspect this could be done if I build a Stock Chart from scratch using a Scatter Chart.

Error bars can be used to make the tails, however, I don't know how they built the body bar which has the characteristics of a bar (border, and interior.)

But since I don't really need those two characteristics, I just need a wider error bar line that is provided in the chart edit window. I'm guess through a macro, there are wider line widths assignable.

Excel 2010 :: Add Pie Chart Into Data Point Marker On Line Chart

Nov 27, 2011

I am looking for a creative way to display a pie chart within a data point marker of a line chart.

My database has 3 value columns, Type1, Type2 and the Total (Type1 + Type2)
these are recorded per day (Date, in Column A)

I have a line chart that displays the total by date, but I want to find a way to display the percentage split of a particular day by type.

I was thinking to load the chart image into the Data point marker, but i don't think that is the best way as the data is updated daily and I would have to do it each day for a few line charts.

The other way I was thinking about was to have a generic Pie chat in the Line chart (Maybe in a corner) and the pie would update depending on way date series was selected or Mouseover'd)

the way that I am approaching it at the movement (Not the best way and by far not the coolest way. Is to have a list of all the dates in a column next to the Line chart and using some VBA, what ever date is selected in the column the pie chart displays the corresponding data. But eh challenge is that when there is alot of dates, I am going to be scrolling up and down.

I am using Excel 2010, but I cant not use the slicer's as the other users do not have 2010, they have 2007.

Excel 2003 :: Filter Data In Graph / Chart (without Having To Create New Chart)

Dec 29, 2011

I have a spreadsheet created in Excel 2003 (which is what we use at work, unfortunately).

My employees periodically take a test to ensure they have certain items memorized (or are making progress to that end). The spreadsheet rows show all 46 of my employees, and their test scores. The columns are the dates that the tests are administered. I can create a line graph based on the chart data, and interpolate these data with no problems.

The problem is that there are 46 employees! 46 lines on the same graph make for a very cluttered, hard to understand visual. I want to simplify the view by "filtering out" some of the data.

I have an additional column in my spreadsheet for each employee's work area (Area 1, Area 2, etc), and another column with data based on first letter of last name (the values here could be "A-G", "H-M", "N-S" and "T-Z", for example). I figure i could filter my line graph based on these two columns. For example, somehow select just Area 1, and reduce the number of lines on the graph to 16. Or better yet, Choose "Area 2" AND "A-M" and end up with 7 employees (and therefore 7 lines on the graph).

Here's what i have tried:

1) Select the work area column, and use the Filter, which created a drop-down list at the column heading. When i use this drop-down list, i can easily filter the data in the worksheet by Work Area, but this is not reflected in the line graph, which still shows all 46 lines. The problem was that i forgot that i had set the Calculation Options to "Manual". Setting this to "Automatic" (or leaving it on Manual and pressing F9) solved the problem, as the chart now updates when i use the filters. Calculation options are under the "Formula" tab in 2007, or in Tools -> Options -> [either calculation or formula, i forget what it's called] in 2003.

2) Create several separate line graphs in several separate sheets. I wouldn't want to assign someone else the task of maintaining a spreadsheet of such inefficient design.

Show Missing Values In Pivot Chart (line Chart) Axis?

Apr 18, 2013

How can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

Odd Chart: Combine Data From Multiple Worksheets And Make A Chart

This pseudo-bubble chart can then easily be combined with a connected point scatter chart.

My question is: does anyone have any VBA code to share that shows how to configure a scatter chart as the type of pseudo-bubble chart described above.
