Odd Chart: Combine Data From Multiple Worksheets And Make A Chart
Mar 26, 2009
I am trying to combine data from multiple worksheets and make a chart. I have about 200 keywords in every worksheet (about 50), and some of them repeat themselves through worksheets and some don't. For every keyword, I have an associated value in the next column that I want to portray over time (each worksheet is for a different period).
So what I need to figure out is how to be able to pick any 10 keywords from the worksheets and put them in a line chart where I can see the associated value for each period for every worksheet so I can compare my keywords' efficiency. The tricky part is that some worksheets do not contain the keyword and other worksheets contain the keyword in a different cell than the previous wsheet.

I would like combine (overlay) a bubble chart with a connected point scatter chart. I understand that, without VBA, this is not possible. However, I understand that, by using VBA, the markers of a scatter chart can be configured as circles with their size proportional to values in a specified column. This pseudo-bubble chart can then easily be combined with a connected point scatter chart.
My question is: does anyone have any VBA code to share that shows how to configure a scatter chart as the type of pseudo-bubble chart described above.

I want to do is be able to take The data from one week for every store and compile it into a chart to show a summary of the company as a whole. I know that I can reference from that chart to each worksheet the values I want, but how would I give that chart the ability to update each time I add a weeks worth of data.
I have attached a file that shows what I am talking about. The sheets labeled Waterloo, Mogadore, through Green are the sheets for each store.
I want to take the last weeks data and put it into a chart as seen on Sheet1. Then when I add data for 3/21/09 I want to make a new chart without retyping the data into the chart.

I am working on an excel macro for work to work with data processing. Basically, it takes a bunch of CSV files and creates a workbook with each file as a new Worksheet; then it has the user enter some calibration data; and finally fills a column with the calculations to convert the data into the correct units. I would like to get it to put an XY Scatter chart of the data on each pages, but I'm having some problems with it. I recorded a macro to get an idea of what the code should look like, but when I put it into the macro I'm writing it places all of the charts on the last worksheet.
Here is the code that I came up with for the chart generation:
Code:
ActiveSheet.Shapes.AddChart.Select
ActiveChart.ChartType = xlXYScatterLinesNoMarkers
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source:=Worksheets(i).Range("D:D,F:F")
Columns D and F are the two that contain the data that I want to plot. In my macro this is running inside a look so Worksheets(i) is selecting the correct ranges on the correct worksheet. I think my problem is that after the merged workbook is created it is defaulting to the last worksheet being the ActiveSheet, and I don't know how to change that.

I have read quite a few tutorials but none of them really reference what I am trying to achieve. Essentially I have one column with 2 options: "Compliance" and "Improvement". I am trying to make a dynamic chart based on the number of occurrences. From my understanding you need to use a "Named Range" and "Count" but I can not find any information on how you combine the two to make a chart.

1) i have office 2003 on a laptop. within powerpoint, i can create a 'microsoft excel chart 11' object. to create a link to the excel data source, do i have to go through the odbc sql setup? it works, but i don't want my powerpoint to be dependent on some excel file somewhere. what are the other options to insert/make a functional pivot chart in powerpoint with the data also within powerpoint? the data as sheet option does not result in the chart being a pivot, it's just a plain chart. it has to be a proper object, not an image paste or a chart that updates links with the excel file open.
2) i have office 2007 on my other laptop. i can not find any suitable object to choose from to make a pivot chart in powerpoint. what's the best way to go about in 2007 version?
3) am i going about this the wrong way with the objects? should i be after vba code?

I need to plot various data on top of stock charts.
This data could be irregular in date: it could be weekly, or simply random.
To plot this data by itself requires a Scatter Chart.
From what I know so far, you CANNOT DO THIS.
However, I suspect this could be done if I build a Stock Chart from scratch using a Scatter Chart.
Error bars can be used to make the tails, however, I don't know how they built the body bar which has the characteristics of a bar (border, and interior.)
But since I don't really need those two characteristics, I just need a wider error bar line that is provided in the chart edit window. I'm guess through a macro, there are wider line widths assignable.

I am looking for a creative way to display a pie chart within a data point marker of a line chart.
My database has 3 value columns, Type1, Type2 and the Total (Type1 + Type2)
these are recorded per day (Date, in Column A)
I have a line chart that displays the total by date, but I want to find a way to display the percentage split of a particular day by type.
I was thinking to load the chart image into the Data point marker, but i don't think that is the best way as the data is updated daily and I would have to do it each day for a few line charts.
The other way I was thinking about was to have a generic Pie chat in the Line chart (Maybe in a corner) and the pie would update depending on way date series was selected or Mouseover'd)
the way that I am approaching it at the movement (Not the best way and by far not the coolest way. Is to have a list of all the dates in a column next to the Line chart and using some VBA, what ever date is selected in the column the pie chart displays the corresponding data. But eh challenge is that when there is alot of dates, I am going to be scrolling up and down.
I am using Excel 2010, but I cant not use the slicer's as the other users do not have 2010, they have 2007.

I have a spreadsheet created in Excel 2003 (which is what we use at work, unfortunately).
My employees periodically take a test to ensure they have certain items memorized (or are making progress to that end). The spreadsheet rows show all 46 of my employees, and their test scores. The columns are the dates that the tests are administered. I can create a line graph based on the chart data, and interpolate these data with no problems.
The problem is that there are 46 employees! 46 lines on the same graph make for a very cluttered, hard to understand visual. I want to simplify the view by "filtering out" some of the data.
I have an additional column in my spreadsheet for each employee's work area (Area 1, Area 2, etc), and another column with data based on first letter of last name (the values here could be "A-G", "H-M", "N-S" and "T-Z", for example). I figure i could filter my line graph based on these two columns. For example, somehow select just Area 1, and reduce the number of lines on the graph to 16. Or better yet, Choose "Area 2" AND "A-M" and end up with 7 employees (and therefore 7 lines on the graph).
Here's what i have tried:
1) Select the work area column, and use the Filter, which created a drop-down list at the column heading. When i use this drop-down list, i can easily filter the data in the worksheet by Work Area, but this is not reflected in the line graph, which still shows all 46 lines. The problem was that i forgot that i had set the Calculation Options to "Manual". Setting this to "Automatic" (or leaving it on Manual and pressing F9) solved the problem, as the chart now updates when i use the filters. Calculation options are under the "Formula" tab in 2007, or in Tools -> Options -> [either calculation or formula, i forget what it's called] in 2003.
2) Create several separate line graphs in several separate sheets. I wouldn't want to assign someone else the task of maintaining a spreadsheet of such inefficient design.

I have data in multiple worksheets and I want it all combined in 1 excel sheet. The 1st worksheet is named as A and all the data in column labled "date" as well as column labled "name" should be copied to master sheet. The range is not specific as vary every month. 2nd worksheet is named as B and all the data in column labled "date" as well as column labled "name" should be copied to master sheet. The range is not specific as vary every month. and there are some more worksheets like that. The start point of data will always be same but can end till any row. Can I get a code for collating all together in one sheet,

I have 5 worksheets (all formatted the same) with data inputs from row 19 to 119 and columns A to BA. After row 119 I have several sums based on the data that is being entered on rows 19 to 119, I don't want this data being copied over. In most cases all rows from 19 to 119 will not be used, so I would only like to copy the rows that have data. To complicate matters, there are times when there will be blank rows within rows that have data. For example rows 19 to 25 will have data and 26 will be blank but rows 27 to 38 will have data. The blank rows are identified by column A (Job Number) being blank. This occurs because a job is dropped from the schedule and is no longer necessary.
In the end, I would like to have a button using VBA that will first clear the data in the new sheet (the sheet that is being populated with the information) and then re-populate it with updated data from the 5 worksheets.

I have four worksheets that all contain the same header row in row 1, but different data in the data rows. I would like to combine all the data from each of the 4 worksheets into a new (created by code) worksheet named "WS Combine". The worksheet named "Result I want 01" simulates exactly what I want the "WS Combine" worksheet to look like. Can this be done?
The header row, however, only needs to be brought over once (with all formatting intact; ie header pane frozen, yellow, centered & bold).
The Worksheet named "Result I want 02" simulates the second thing I would like to do. This worksheet basically looks at "Result I want 01" and copies ONLY the rows that are RED and BOLD and pastes these rows (along with the header row). This worksheet could be named "Red Totals"
A couple of nuances...
1. The rows that are RED and BOLD in the four original worksheets are not always in the same position. That's because they don't currently populate that way so I wanted to make this as real as possible. Therefore, ideally, code that says "just copy all data from four worksheets" would not be sufficient.
If it's not possible or too involved to have the worksheet named "Result I want 01" reorder the rows this way when copying them over, then having them in any order is fine.
2. I need to keep the font formatting of ALL the rows intact as future code will not work without this formatting retained on the two new worksheets.
3. It is possible that duplicate rows can be created (two worksheets have the same exact data) when combining these four worksheets into one. If this is the case, then either allow that to happen or simply delete the duplicate row, whichever is easier.

I am trying to combine sorted data from 2 worksheets to a new work sheet to process further. I have one worksheet with order number, part number, order qty but with different delivery dates. On another worksheet, I have the order number too, part number, the qty delivered. The qty delivered is not always the same each delivery.
My aim is to find out how many are already delivered under a certain purchase order and the balance of undelivered parts.
I used pivot tables to sort out the data but I am stuck here not knowing how to extra the sorted data from the pivot tables to the 3rd worksheet. I will need to match the order number and the part number.

I have a chart with 3 data series. The series are located in columns A, B and C respectively. Series I is a general number anywhere from 0 to 100,000. Series 2 is also a number, but is is devided by series 1. So, if series 1 was 100,000 then series two would be 25,000/100,000 which is 0.25. Series three will always be numerator of series 2 or 25,000 in this example. The numerator, or the 25,000 will never change, so, in my example, series three will be a straight line across the chart because it is always 25,000.
In my example, the .25 is plotted on the left value axes, and series one is plotted on the right value acccess (secondary axis). Series three is just a line in the middle.
My problem is that sometimes the line, series 3, doesn't match the values in both the right and left values axes. So, if series one is 48,000, then series two would be 48,000/48,000 = 1, and series three would be 48000 - the straight line. The third series should be a line touching the 48,000 on the right and the number 1 on the left. It does touch the 48000 on the left, but is below the number 1 on the left.

I have a master workbook that has been set up to mirror the structure of a single worksheet in various other workbooks saved in different directory locations. I need some VBA code to retreive specific data from a specified worksheet in multiple workbooks which are saved in different directories and then copy the data to the master workbook, listing each data set one after another. I do not want to open any of the source workbooks to acheive this.
I attach two example workbooks to better explain:
The code has to look in various sub directories to find the relevant workbooks, (Source1) then find the specified worksheet, (Stock) and copy only rows that have data from column B to O. The data needs to be copied to the master workbook, (master) from all the source workbooks as a list with no space.

I am trying to make a chart and I just used the macro recording thing to get the code. I have a variable called days.
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "='Pair Data'!R2C2:R24C2"
Instead of going to row 24 I want to go to row days+1 so I did the following:
ActiveChart.SeriesCollection(1).XValues = "='Pair Data'!R2C2:R"&days+1&"C2"
how I can fix it? It highlights the "C2" at the end and says Expected End of Statement.

In my VB6 project I need to loop through several Excel Workbooks with the same chart format and amend the chart data as required from time to time. There are 2 charts in Sheet2 of every workbook. With the following coding, I can only update the chart in the first workbook but not the one in the second workbook and the rest. It appears that there will be no further updates after the first workbook is closed.
Option Explicit
Dim oEquityWB As Excel.Workbook
Dim oEquityWS As Excel.Worksheet
Public Sub AmendChart()
Dim arrWorkbooks() as String'Path & Filename
Dim nn as Integer
For nn = 0 To UBound(arrWorkbooks)
If Not EquityWBOpen(arrWorkbooks(nn)) Then GoTo Next_nn
Set oEquityWS = oEquityWB.Worksheets("Sheet2")
oEquityWS.ChartObjects("Chart 1").Activate................

I am trying to graph the following data in an area chart with line charts superimposed on the area chart. I have a lot of data (and a lot going on) so I'm trying to figure out the best way to show this in excel from a functional standpoing (i can't get this to work in excel!!) to also an asthetic standpoint (dont want it to look terrible or illegible). This is what I'm trying to chart:
1) Weather data (temperature) by region:
So one region, would be: Northwest
I would like the "area" (so a shaded region) to be the min/max of the temperature data for each month.
2) I would like to show the temperature for each year as a line graph on the chart - so you can see if a year falls in or out of the shaded region.
3) I would like to show a company's sales increases across the same months per year as separate line charts. I may choose to just show the biggest outlier year in the end... or to show 2006 (the latest data).
What I am trying to convery with the chart is that the company's sales is or is not tied to weather deviations. I have attached an excel file with the data. I haven't been able to use the area chart or get a two axis chart to work or get it to look even remotely professional.

I have never used charts in excel unfortunately. I just finished watching a few tutorials but still a little confused. I have a WS with a list of items I want to make various charts of how do you make a chart that adjusts when new items are added? (thus dynamic data) Do you need a macro to do this or is it just standard by defining a range within that sheet?

I have data:
Jan Feb Mar Apr May
2009years 56 45 42 50 62 - series1
2010years 48 47 45 48 55 - series2
I need make line chart from 3 series. First two are series1 and series2. Third is percent change between 2010 and 2009 years every month (series3). First two are easy, but third is very difficult for me, becouse I haven't row with percent change and I can't haven't it in my exercise.
How can I make it without new row with percent change?
I tried it with Data Source in chart, also formula in Name Manager, but it doesn't succeed

I would like to update a chart after I have updated the underlying data just by clicking a button and displaying the updated date in the chart. Does anyone know how to do this? Currently I am having to manually click on the graphs line in the chart, which highlights the columns data, then manually extend this for the chart to update. And then I am manually typing in a date cell in the chart. There MUST be a cool way to do this.

My friend has set up an excel workbook with a sheet for every month (labelled Jan graphs, Feb graphs, Mar graphs etc) which has 7 pie charts per sheet. The problem is the pie charts are showing the 0% fields and the data labels are overlapping. I have found a macro that gets rid of the 0% labels but I need to repeat the macro for all the 7 charts on each sheet and all 12 worksheets for each month of the year. I am very new to VBA and coding of any type and have looked but can't find the solution.
The macro I am currently using for "Chart1" on "Jan graphs" is below. The charts are labelled Chart1, Chart2, Chart3 etc.
Sub ClearLabels()
Worksheets("Jan graphs").ChartObjects("Chart 1").Chart.ApplyDataLabels _
Type:=xlShowLabelAndPercent
For Each x In Worksheets("Jan graphs").ChartObjects("Chart 1"). _
Chart.SeriesCollection(1).Points

In a chart series, I have and end number for a row that I have been updating manually everytime I enter a new fuel tank fillup. Is there a simple way with the chart series to just say always go to the last data in the specified column?
See my example here, instead of the 137 in the series is there someway to just say "last data row"?

I'm trying to plot a chart of some sort in Excel to display 4 angles that different blood vessels branch off the aorta. Ideally I'd like to input the values of these angles which would vary from patient to patient and have them be displayed in some kind of chart. The chart I'm hoping to achieve would be cirular with the 4 angles represented by spokes which extend out all of the same length. I've attached a rough sketch to show what I'm trying to achieve and I'd be hoping to be able to change each angle in a worksheet and have the chart update to reflect.

I have a chart with percentages and most of them are >40% so I would like te values to start at 40 in the y axis but I would also want to have the 0% show (as it stands there is nothing there) It is a double y axis chart where the % is shown with just a dot and the other Y axis is the actual column. Im not sure if I'm making sense but I would just like to have the 1st value in the secondary y axis be 0 and the 2nd value be 40, and from that point forward scale in intervals of 5%.
So the values in the y axis are: 0%, 40%, 45%, 50%......
