Determine Math Signs/Operators In Cells Before Calculation
Apr 1, 2008I have Three different combinations which are in cell A & B, These combinations are with similar signs as in A1=2- & B1 = 2- (& A1 = 2+, B1=2+). Then I have numbers with no signs which A1 =2 B1= 2. My approach is to limit to these and these combinations only and use a formula which is uniformally applied on these combination. I want A1 and B1 to take only like signs like -- or ++ or without any sign. The rest shd be ignored. IS there a way of sorting two columns which have different combinations liek -- or ++ or -+ into a area where u can apply a particular formula? Hence first i take a number and move signs on the left and then apply this

Aug 9, 2012How to create a formula to determine the longer period of time between two date calculations and enter the longer period of time in the cell.
My Spreadsheet:
Cell M2: Birthdate (entered in cell as 11/1/2004)
Cell J2: Last date of service (entered in cell as 10/31/2011)
Cell G2: Calculation to enter the longer period of time between (M2 (year) + 21) and (J2 (year) + 7)
Example using information from above:
2004 + 21 = 2025
2011 + 7 = 2018
2025 is the result I want added to G2
If there is any way to include the month/year in G2 that would be ideal.
Format Cells Based Upon Being Outside Scope Of Calculation Of 2 Cells

When comparing a variable across the 2 sets e.g. profit I want to colour a neighbouring cell based on the size of the difference. For example if the difference between the two values is within plus or minus 1 make it green, plus or minus 5 red etc.

Oct 14, 2013I need to detect 2 levels of duplication.
I have a data table that is similar to below (actual table is very large 1000+ rows) but duplicate column is empty.
I don't want to add additional data (i.e. formula to perform concatenate) to other columns as it takes a very long time even with screen updating turned off.
I want to use vba to
1) determine how many rows there are in the worksheet (this updates from an outside datasource)
2) Concatenate baseno & altno and determine if the concatenated value is duplicated
3) Within those duplicates for each baseno&altno pair determine if verno is different
4) Set "Duplicate" value for each duped baseno&altno pair where verno is different
So the end resulting table after macro runs would be
baseno
altno
verno
duplicate

I have been for weeks now and just can't get this to work. I can get it so that I can determine duplicates on one column but I can't seem to get it to concatenate inside the script and compare without writing back to the sheet (which is too slow and I don't want to do).

In Automatic Filter, one can easily see the rows that match criteria, but selecting the compliment of those rows (the ones that don't match the criteria) is difficult.
Similarly, there are the range functions Intersect and Union, but no Symetric Difference.

Dec 23, 2008I am trying to resize a picture on a worksheet to fit a dynamic measurement(the size of the page is different depending on the contents in cells).
I am doing this all in VBA.
so what I have come up with is that I need to
1) determine the total column width of only the non-hidden(visible) cells.
2) resize my picture to those measurements, so I can get an exact fit, and it doesn't create a new page break, by going over.

Calculation Based On % Of Cells
Oct 29, 2008I need a formula that I can place in, lets say, Cell A1 that will reference Cells B1, B2, B3 and C1, C2, C3. These all have numbers & %'s in them. However, I want to "weight" the B cells by the percentages in C cells. The problem I am having is that when I change the %'s nothing is changing in the output...almost like I was doing nothing but averaging B1:B3 without the % to adjust.
This is how I envision it, but my calculation may be wrong of course :
A1 = average(sum(B1,B2,B3)*C1, sum(B1,B2,B3)*C2, sum(B1,B2,B3)*C3)
The Goal:
This would allow me to change the output depending on the percentage. So if I am looking at days to an appointment and the B cells represent areas of a city: B1 = 10, B2 = 5, B3 = 2 the average would be 5.6, however, I know that B1 city has more "weight" to it with our customer base so I want B1 to be closer to what will show as days out (which is obviously important as 10 days is not good). So I would assign C1 = 60%, C2 = 30%, C3 = 10%. This should pull the average more to 7 or 8 as it would lean more towards the B1 value. I hope this makes sense.
I did try going more of a route where I did something like =average(B1*C1,B2*C2,B3*C3) but that lowered all the original values instead and averaged them instead of pushing the number more towards the higher weighted % of B1 cell value. I can send an example spreadsheet if I am losing anyone.
Filling Cells According To A Calculation
Jun 29, 2008I have a spreadsheet that is designed to aid a production department to complete and track their orders. I need two things from this.
1) I have an order of 500 baskets. Baskets are stacked, but the heights vary from 16 to 20. I need the spreadsheet to be able to work this out for me.
Example:
500 baskets 20 high = 25 stacks.
500 baskets 16 high = 31 stacks and 4 baskets.
Excel would work the last equation out as 31.25. How can I get excel to use the remainder (in this case 0.25) to work out the required number of baskets?
2) Using the above, I need the sheet to fill out a certain area with information. So, if the order is 500 baskets at 20 high, I need 25 of the cells in the specific area to display the number 20. Likewise, if the order is 500 baskets at 16 high, I need 31 cells to display 16 and the remaining cell to show 4.

As you can see in column B are two different colored Sun, red and magenta as well as Mon and Tue.

Delete Cells After Calculation Of Average
Dec 2, 2008I`m working on a compression of a picture. For most of you that probably is pea-nuts, but I really just stopped wearing diapers when it comes to excel. At this point I have a sheet in front of me with 300 rows (length of the picture) and 185 columns (breadth of the picture). The cells are pixels and contain values ranging from 0 to 255.
I now need to do an operation I simply can't figure out. I need to select four cells at once (A1:A2 and B1:B2) and replace A1 by the average of these cells and the other three cells should be emptied during that operation. This operation I should do for the whole sheet. In the end I should see a chart with values in every two cells (A1, A3, A5 ... for the first row) as the other cells will be emptied
Calculation Based On Colored Cells
Dec 4, 2008i have a sheet which has name of students (A2:A10), B1:E1 has project name. and the projects are catagorised by color red=high,green=medium, yello=low. i have given weightage to these color red=80%, green=50%, yello=20%.
similarly the involvment of the students in each project is shown by these three color in respective cell. like B2 is red, C2 is red,D2 is blank, E2 is green. (the weightage is same as above). in column F i want the total utilisation of each student, which is simply sum of product of weightage given to these colors.
e.g.

what i want is to calculate this utilisation number, but i want my sheet to be shown in the same color format.
i am sure that there is some solution for this.
Calculation Of The Cells Update But Very Many Of Them Do Not Change At All
Jul 20, 2006I've created a bit of a monster Excel model taking in an enormous range of inputs and outputs. Most of the formulas are vlookups and sumif's. The workbook is now about 15meg. I've got autocalculate turned off because of the great deal of time it takes to recalculate. When I do try and re-calc some of the cells update but very many of them do not change at all. If I then go into these cells and edit them (F2 enter) the correct output is given! If I close the book and re-open it normally shows the correct outputs, after a while it goes back to the error above.

The change I want to make is as follows: I'd like it say say if the value in Cell M8 is the same on all sheets then place x value in cell M8 on the active sheet, same for M9, on so on and so forth. Only if the values in Cell M8 for each sheet are not the same then take the average.

Average That Omits Certain Cells In Calculation

Current Code (it repeats afterwards as there are lots and lots of sheets I need to perform the action on).

What I'm after is a way to alter the range highlighted based upon matching a cell in "Raw Data.xls' and a cell in "Volume Tracking.xlsm".
The cell A43 in "Raw Data.xls" contains a month (which changes every month); if the month is Jan then I would want the Range to remain as AE33. If it's Feb then I would want the Range to be AF33 (and so on).
In "Volume Tracking.xlsm" I have the months in cells AE4 (Jan), AE5 (Feb) etc.
Is there a way to locate the column in "Volume Tracking.xlsm" on row 4 that contains the value found in A43 in "Raw Data.xls" and then paste what was copied out of "Raw Data.xls" C43 and paste it in to row 33 of the correct column that holds the matching month?
If not could I add code to say if cell A43 in "Raw Data.xls" = Jan then paste to AE33, if Feb then paste to AF33 and so on.........

Jun 3, 2014I have quarters of the year. I'm wanting to find a function wherein when I punch in for example year 2012, the cell would give me the sum of the 4Qs. If if change it to 2013, then it would give me the sum of 4Qs for 2013.
