# Display First 4 Digits Of A Number

## I work in a finance department and we have MANY numbers consisting of 7 digits. Is there a way to enter in the entire number, but only display the first 4 digits?

Formatting A Number Field To Hold A Specific Number Of Digits
I wrote an excel program in Excel'03 for a dental office to manage state assistance patients and one of the table columns is the state assistance number. The problem is that the program defaults to a number format when it is entered instead of a text format, which is what I want. The issue is that state assistance numbers are always 8 digits and when it defaults to a number field the program drops the required preceeding zeros.

For example the number 00123456 will sometimes show up as 123456, which is wrong. It's like sometimes it will show up right and other times it gets a butterfly in its brain and deletes those zeros irritating the receptionist here. So, how do I get the table to either stay in text format or set up a number format that keeps the preceeding zeros?

Can a vba macro be provided for splitting a number into digits? The number will be in Sheet 1 but splitted number will be on sheet 2. Splitting of numbers means a number entered into a cell will be splitted into different column/cells with one digit per cell.

Specific Number Of Significant Digits
Does anybody know of a special format or a rounding function that displays or rounds a number off to a specific number of significant digits.

Lets say I would like 3 significant digits this would be the results:

0.40019 -> 0.400
6.543 -> 6.54
12.543 -> 12.5
32 -> 32.0
564.7894 -> 565
54387 -> 54400 (or 5.44E+4 to be correct, but i can live with 54400)

Check Number Uses Unique Digits
I would like a function that checks an input number to see if it contains unique digits. If the digits are unique the output is 1 else the output is -1. Thus, supposing we call the function UNIQ(), we find UNIQ(15423) = 1 but UNIQ(154532) = -1. The input is always a positive integer.

If Statement Based On Last Digit Or Last Two Digits In A Number

I am trying to find a formula for the output cell. Suppose the designated cell = 7 due to formulas above it. So that number is always given but can change. I then need a formula for the ouput cell that says if the designated cell is greater than or equal to 1, and less than 10, then the output cell should equal .034. So suppose the designated cell = 18.2. Then I would want the output cell to be .072 since it is greater than or equal to 15, and less than 25. The template I am using has 23 rows of numbers like above. I didn't know how to do it for 23 rows though. If/Then doesn't work because it is 23 statements long (well over the seven limit) and the vlookup only works when the cell is equal to a number and not a range.

I have been searching the Internet for the past 2 days without luck on how to delete the end of string vintage year.

I have had some luck with the left side, as in:
=IF(ISERROR(VALUE(LEFT(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)-1))),B2,MID(B2,SEARCH(" ",B2)+1,LEN(B2)))
As I am not an expert with Excel, I have no idea on how to use VBA (every time I have tried even basic things, I failed) nor even sure how the above funtion works (found it on another site).

I thought I could acheive my goal in two steps, first removing the left side vintage and use this partial result with the RIGHT equivalent funtion, but it simply is not working!

Does anyone have an idea on how to help with this?

Ideally I would love to cut the vintage year, whether 2 or 4 digit, whether on right or left of cell and paste it in another cell, so to avoid manually doing it.

However, this is surely too complicated to do, so iwould settle with just deleting the vintage year and manually typing the vintage in another cell.

If Number =1 Display The Result
I have a count for each site for certain cloumn headers.
But i want to collate these so that if there is a 1 in the column the it will output it with the column header. But there are 10 column headers and I would like to get a result that has all the columns with 1 in.

Formula To Display The Last Number
I need a simple formula that would save me some annoyance. Basically I have like 20 columns filled with various numbers. At the last column I like to take the last number in that row. However each row "last number" is in different column. So how do right formula that would basically take the last value in that row?

This currently displays as -32 pulling this number out of bloomberg.

I now want to write a formulae in this cell that will display this as 32c if it is negative... and 32b if it is positive.

So if the number pulled out is negative I want it to have a c after it (and please have it delete the minus sign) and if positive, then have a b after it.

Number Formatting: Display Cells As A Number Like "00 41 55.0"
I have two columns of cells that need to be reformatted: B and C. In the B column excel is reading the cells as time (0:41:55.0), I need it to display those cells as a number like this: 00 41 55.0. In column C the cells look like this: 41 : 09 : 47.3. I need the C column cells to look just like the formatted B column cells (41 09 47.3) Also, even though they have the spaces, the numbers should be read by excel as one whole number (i.e. 41 09 47.3 would be used in a calculation as 410947.3)

K so basically i have a cell where based on the above formulas it displays a number.

What i want it to do is only display a number if it matches one of the numbers in the 9 cells above it. so for example

Multi Column Listbox :: To Display A Number
I have a form with a list box on it, I want the listbox to display a number (1 through 20), the agents name, and a count of how many observations they have had. Unfortunately I have been unable to find an example of how to add multiple columns to a list box. I found the usual listbox1.list(x,x)= "whatever" type stuff but that doesn't seem to work right.

Display Number Of Years Based On A Date
Right now, in a column I would like to display an number (length of employment) based on the hire date.

In one cell the employee's hire date is entered. In a column of other cells the pay period ending date is displayed and in another column the length of employment is displayed.

Example:

How would I create a formula in the length of employment cells that would indicate the correct number of years based on the hire date and adjusts when the pay period date passes this hire date?

Display Alert When A Number In Column Has Already Been Entered
My colleague in accounts has a sheet that lists all the invoices and values and other 'accounts department things' that I know little about.

Anyway, she has to manually input all the invoices she receives onto this excel document but sometime receives duplicate invoices (& inputs them twice be accident).

Is it possible for someone with macro skills to create a macro to run in a worksheet so that if she enters a number in a given column more than once an alert box appears to tell her. I've summarised the 'rules' below*

*Can is be written so that I can edit which column the alert is based on?

[In (for example) column F is a list of invoice numbers - all unique]

If user types a number in column F that matches a number that already exists, show alert box "THERE APPEARS TO BE A DUPLICATE ENTRY IN COLUMN F"

Want To Display The Cell Next To A Max/large Number.
I'm working on a spread sheet to identify the to ten numbers from a list. I can find thes numbers and use ( =MAX('MHF2'!B:B) )for the function to do so. I'd like to dispaly the data in the cell directly to the left of this number... How do I do this?

Cell Number Format And Display - 2003
I enter in numbers, eg: 1, 2, 10, 24, 100, 1000 in a consecqutive cell range
They display as: 0.01, 0.02, 0.1, 0.24, 1, 10. Default cell format is general. If I change cell format to Number (with default display of 2 decimal points) it displays: 0.01, 0.02, 0.10, 0.24, 1.00, 10.00. If I also specify no decimal points, it displays: 0,0,0,0,1,10

The only way I can get the numbers I enter to display (and store) as 1,2,10,24, 100, 1000 is to change cell format to text and THEN retype th numbers into the cells. But, then it creates the green error comment in top left of each cell.

Compare General Number To Date - Display Based On Criteria
I would like to create a formula that compares a number in one cell to the dates I have displayed in two different cells. If true, then I want it to display the Currency value from another cell.

I can create an IF...THEN statement where if A2 is >= C1 BUT less than D1 then the value is B2, BUT it only works if I change A2 to an actual date which means i have to change it every month...which would not help with forecasting future transactions. So in the example above, the value would be in C2 and not D2.

I am trying to do 2 things involving data validation. 1) Count the number of entries in a data validation dropdown list and display a result. 2) Use an If statement to pull the formatting from a cell into another cell.

Display Cell X Of Range Based On Another Cell Number
I am trying to create a table, based on what people predict in sports games. I have most of it in place, but I have hit a brick wall where one part of it is concerned. For example, cells M43:M56 have the scores for each week of what one person predicted., so it could be 2,5,7,2 and so on. What I then need the table to do is determine which round or week it is and display the relevant score. So based on the above let's say it's round 3, and his score would be 7 for the week, and the cell to the right of this shows the week's score plus his total score so far.

How To Give Last 6 Digits Only If A #
I have a formula now that is =right(C2,5)+0 that is working well. However the data has grown and sometimes there is also 6 digits now instead of 5. So I need it to pick up either one 5 or 6. When I change the formula to 6 it works but picks up a / which happens to be before the 5 digit # sequence when there is only 5 digits. It works great for the 6. Is there another way around this so I only get the numbre digits if there are 5 or 6 and not the /. Maybe an if statement. I've tried several ways but none work right. The only other thing I can think of is to get it as above with the =right(C2,6)+0 and then afterwards to a find and replace and remove the / from the data. I was just tryign not to add an extra step to the process. Any ideas please?

Example of the data in coloumn C2 is:
15/2000/4567/NA/NA/97305or with 6 digits at the end15/2000/4567/NA/NA/973052there is always just 5 or 6 digits at the end that I need.

Filter Last Two Digits
I tried every filter function I know of, to no avail, and am yielding my stupidity to the forum. I have this series of numbers as an example:

All I want to filter is all values ending with 12.

Replace First X Digits
I've recorded a macro to replace the Australian telephone number area codes (at the beginning of each phone number) with international dialling codes. I also need to replace the first two digits ONLY of mobile ( cell) phone numbers which, in Australia, all begin with "04" (see last part of macro code below - column L:L).

With the code the way I've recorded it, if it finds "04" in another part of the number (e.g. 0411 104 111), the second occurrence of the "04" will automatically be replaced with "614" as well which I don't want. So I need some code to add so that the macro only searches and replaces those first two digits in that column. I hope I'm making sense?!

I want to have column J with values from column A grouped by the first 9 digits and column J with the totals for these groups. It would look something like this:

1. Remove the first 4 digits from each "Appeal ID"

2. Insert a new column (first column) called "Chapter"

3. Run a v-lookup down the new column against a file that is stored on my desktop. The v-lookup will cross check the Appeal ID against the file to identify the Chapter

Significant Digits
