Here is the data table. I need to find values from the 2nd column in the 1st column and for instance display them in 3rd column as presented.

So if B from 2nd column is found in the 1st column, display it in the same row in the 3rd column.

Matching Two Sets Of Date And Displaying

I have two separate worksheets:

I'm trying to find a formula that looks at Column A on both sheets and if they match enter in column D of the referral sheet the month they were seen but only if its a 1st contact (appt type on column D of contact sheet)

Displaying Text But Having A Value?

I was looking to have a Word for example 'Apple' but want it as a number e.g '10'. I want to use it so that I can add up the prices of items by just clicking on the name of the item. So If I want to add up 3 items e.g. an apple , a banana and a pear which all cost £10 each I want to be able to click all three items and get the total of £30 displayed in a certain box.

1. What is the maximum characters an Excel cell can take?

I try to import a very large text string into an Excel cell. I notice that
it's truncated to a certain maximum length.

When I set the cell type to be TEXT it displays #########################
But when I set cell type to GENERAL then it displays ok.

I just did a Len() on my text cell and it appears the maximum characters
allowed is 330. Is it possible to extend this?

I am using the following math formula in cell C12:

=IF(B12="","",IF(B12<2,-1,INT(B12/5)))

What I want to do is if cell B3 equals a text value of the word "All" then cell B12 would display nothing. If B3 equals any other value then the math formula above be used.

I'm using an Excel spreadsheet as a database (mostly text based), so that in columns 1 and 2 are names and in column 3 is notes. I'm keeping all the columns single height (ie: not wrapping text). Where there is nothing in column 4 onwards, the text from column 3 displays across the subsequent blank fields.

I have a variable COMTXT that loads (via loop) several short lines of text to form a "mouthful" of comments together. But have 2 issues with it.

1- I need to add a carriage return after loading each short line of text. [code] Module1.COMTXT = Module1.COMTXT + Sheets(3). Cells(Module1.COMCODE, 1)
[?CODE]I have try'd [& vbCrLf &] in many syntax's to no avail.

2- When displaying COMTXT to a sheet, its too big for the cell ! and not able to enlarge the cell without major disortion to rest of sheet. How do I acheive this and allow the text to display like a textbox or label, covering many cells and rows.

I'm having to re-learn formula commands in order to continue to use my spreadsheets (I had tried to get the Quattro Pro converter to work in Excel 2003 with no success). Actually, I would have stayed with QP since I find it much more user friendly, but with Excel being the standard spreadsheet that most people use, I figured I better get used to it. Anyway, I'm currently trying to find out how I might get the same text that shows up in varying cells in an otherwise blank column (other cells contain formulas, but no text) to also show up in another fixed cell (which can be where I put this formula).

Displaying Watermark Text In Cell Without Formula?

I am trying to display watermark text in a cell based on the value of another cell. For example:

If in Column B, cell B2 states "Mileage", Column C, cell C2 needs to say "Please enter Start and Destination...". I want column C (cell C2) to be my input cell as well hence the reason i'm avoiding the use of an IF formula.

I'm open to a VBA solution if this works? Tried conditional formatting however it will only display colours, not text?

Displaying Months From Cells As Their Text (not Numerical)

The formula contained within these cells equals =MONTH(C84) [the date 2 cells above it]... to which I've formatted the cell to "mmmm" and it displays "January" across the board. Can anyone explain why this is occuring and how I can fix it please? I'm aiming to graph this information and can't accurately do it using the moving monthly system i've put in place if I can't change the months dynamically like this.

Secondly, and on a side note. Line 84 currently takes todays date (not currently todays date in the example screenshot) (=TODAY()), and to get to the previous 13 months I deduct 31 days. I can foresee this as being a problem further down the track especially when leap years come into play. Is there a function in Excel where I can simply deduct 1 month from another? =MONTH(C84)-1 ?

Displaying Column Header Text In Other Cells

The basic spreadsheet consists of a list of names down the left hand side with 19 columns across - one for each art activity (I have pasted a copy of it below - but it doesn't paste so good!). Each person has selected their three activities and this has been recorded by placing a 1, 2 or 3 in the relative columns. Each person has been told that they will get a place on two out of three of their chosen activities (in which case we will change one of their choices to a 0).

What I would now like to be able to do is to create a mail merge in Word which looks at each person and then goes along that row to find out which columns have a 1, 2, or 3 in it. The heading for that column would then be used as a merge field so that I end up with a word document which looks something like this:

I want to have data in other sheet With respect to Product details. Where It gives me the count of Product 1 and so on.

I am able to get the count using countif function and it displays like below.

Matching Text In A Large Table?

I have 3 columns thousands of rows each, P, Q and R. Column R is the names of accounts.

I have another column E with also account names but not in same order as R. Another small glitch is, some of the names in R have extra characters at the end (such as one or more spaces bars, etc). But the entirety of the text in E is present in a cell in R, sometimes with extra characters at the end.

I want to match the account names and pull the corresponding values in the same row from columns P and Q, and populate my currently empty columns C and D.

I have very large spread sheet with alot of data. My goal in this is to create a seperate simplier spread sheet with some basic information to work with day to day chasing.

My spread sheet will consist of 1 work book but to pages page 1 the main with all the info page 2 the simplified version.

The first column in the first page consists of company names. The first column in the second page is also company names. What I want to do on the second page is take certain pieces of data from page 1 on page 2 as well.

So for example page 2 column 1 will have company name and column 2 will have certificate number. On page 1 the certificate number is column 16

What I would like is for page2 to column 2 to do is search for page 2 column 1 text in page 1 and input the value of page 1 column 16.

Matching Text Within A File Name To A Folder

I'm looking to loop through a particular folder and depending on a reference contained within the file names move then to the corresponding folders and so on until the folder is empty.

I'm thinking the following can extract the reference from the filenames...

myRef = Mid(objFile.Name, Find("Ref -", objFile.Name) + 1, 5)
but I'm not sure how to hold that information (5 number reference) and then match it to a corresponding sub directory of the folder.

Search For Matching Text, Then Delete Rows Above It

Here is what Im trying to do: I have a VERY large excel file that has groups of 4 cells, a blank, then another 4, repeating. Kinda like the following:

UID = example

ExampleCell1
ExampleCell2
ExampleCell3

ExampleCell1
ExampleCell2
ExampleCell3
UID = example


That pattern continues for about 3000 lines. However, if you noticed, some of the "groups" dont have the 4th line "UID = example".

Here is what Im trying to do. I want excel to search for the cells with "UID" and DELETE it plus the 3 rows above. So that only the "groups" without the UID remain.

Now Im thinking this may be impossible, but I've seen some crazy things done with excel macros and was really hoping someone can help me out. Otherwise Im doing this manually for 3000+ lines of text.

Match Function Not Matching Text In Formula?

with Match function not matching text in this formula?

Using the below formula cell $L$11 (it contains "abc") will not match the respective cell contents in array E:E even though "abc" is in a cell within column E.

=IFERROR(INDEX('Paste In Data File'!G:G,MATCH($L$11,IF('Paste In Data File'!C:C=B14,'Paste In Data File'!E:E),0)),"")

The cells within column E are populated using a formula such as =IF(MID(A6,3,1)="a",MID(A6,435,9),"")

Column A is the data source and contains a text string.

After much trial and error, it seems the cause preventing the match is; $L$11 contains typed in text "abc" and the above formula for column E is pulling in 9 characters, not just 3.

It seems that if I can modify the entry for the array E:E to just look at the left 3 characters only, it may work.Problem is I do not know how to modify E:E accordingly.

I have a workbook with two sheets (MainSheet and Stats)

In the Main Sheet Column A has a name entered which is surname plus a christian name e.g Smith Thomas

This name could be anywhere in the A column from the bottom up

In the Stats sheet Column A has a surname and Column B has a christian name e.g Smith in ColA and Thomas in Col B. Smith and Thomas will always be on the same row but could be in any row on the sheet from the bottom up.

I need a formula which can compare the name in the MainSheet with concatinated name from the Stats sheet if the names are the same then change Cell H1 to the text "Match"

An example might be that on the MainSheet A16OO = "SMITH TOM" on the Stats sheet A2="SMITH" B2 = "TOM" .
The formula would be on the Stats Sheet in H2 which in this case would = "Match"

I have a list of names in Column B (Starting at B5) with assignments to them in Column A. I want the people who receive the file, to enter their name in B1 exactly as it appears multiple times in sheet. And hope to use conditional formatting to highlight (change the back ground color) of each cell their name appears in.

I've used a number of formulas in the Conditional formatting including "=(ISNUMBER(MATCH($B5:$B100,$B$1,0)))", Countif's and "Not(isnumber)..." but can't find a formula that picks up the whole text.

I'd like to have the value of <formula> looked up in older records. Currency and category should match and it should pick the exchange rate with the maximum date.

Function For Recognizing Matching Text And Adding Up Columns

I am currently tracking online PPC keyword reports with Excel and need to know if there is a function that will find and match words and phrases and then add the columns that are queried for the matching words/phrases. I think an example is definately in order.

December PPC
Keyword Clicks Cost Revenue
large dogs 45 .18 $12.00
small dogs 35 .25 $15.00

January PPC
Keyword Clicks Cost Revenue
large dogs 12 .14 $8.25
small dogs 18 .18 $5.35

Now using the example above I need a function or maybe even a macro that will scan all "keywords" and find a match for each keyword each month, say large dogs, and then add the clicks, costs, and revenue columns and post them on a particular row or rows.

So when running the function it will find and match "large dogs" for each month, it will then add the clicks for all months with "large dogs" in it and then populate a column or row with the total along with the keyword "large dogs" next to it. Is there a function that will do this or maybe even a macro?
