Excel 2003 :: Drag Without Losing Source Formatting
Sep 24, 2013
This refers to Excel 2003. I will be dragging contents of cells to another place on the same worksheet. To make myself clear, the text must be moved from the source cells to the destination cells, leaving the format of both source and destination cells - such as borders and fill - unchanged.
NOTE: I know that I can copy the cells and return to the destination cells to delete the content that I want to move. This wastes time when doing many drags and drops.
NOTE: I know that I can paste special, pasting the Values only. Again, this is a lot of extra clicking or keyboard shortcuts. Again this wastes time when dragging and dropping many times.

I'm working in Excel 2003.
I'm looking for a way to use conditional formatting to flag a cell in a list if the user enters a value that already exists in that list. Just trying to keep any values from being entered twice.
I understand how to set cond form to flag a cell, but not what criteria to enter to activate the formatting when a value has already been used.
Some sort of =IF(COUNT...?) function?

I work in a call centre and I record my daily figures. My target is 82%, and I would like a bar chart in Excel 2003 to colour the chart according to wether I hit target or not. If my daily figure >=82% the bar should be green.

I made a planner for shared use.
Is there any way users can cut and paste while keeping the Conditional Formatting of the source cells intact? It is the same as copy-paste and then delete the source cell contents after copying.

Is it possible to protect an inserted text box from being moved, stretched, etc. while allowing data input into the cell/s? I'm using a 2003 version of excel.
I've attached the sheet in question. The yellow text boxes are what I want to lock, yet still allow data input.

I am using Excel 2003. I have a spread sheet and I am trying to use conditional formatting. But I can't figure out how to use conditional formatting across multiple columns and so I have been doing each column individually which has been kind of a hassle. I also am trying to figure out how to put in a formula so that every occurrence of a certain text will show up a certain color. I know that I can just do "cell value is", "equal to" and click on the cell, but the information in this spread sheet is organized alphabetically and is going to be added to frequently therefore every time I add information it re-organizes. This then messes up my conditional formatting because the text value that was in the cell gets bumped up or down.

I was wondering if it is possible to have cells formatted based on the presence of an autofilter? I have a large worksheet, and to clean it up I would like to make the entire sheet (minus the category headers) invisible. Then, when the user applies a filter, the cells become visible.

I am using excel 2003. I need to conditional formatting for the following:
Based on the column A, if it is USD, the next column show $ and the cell in blue
If it is JPY, the next column show Yuan sign and the cell in green
If it is Euro, the next column show Euro Sign and the cell in yellow.
How to make that happen?

Excel 2003.
I am creating a heat map using two variables from a questionnaire: firstly the number of people impacted by a question; and secondly, the level of the impact. Respondents are asked to give these values in two adjacent cells. These are then multiplied to give a weight eg 1000 people x level 3 impact = 3000. I have used Conditional Formatting to colour the cell according to the impact level (0 = none - white (default), 1 = moderate - tan, 2 = significant - orange, 3 = high - red). What I want to do is then change the font size to give an indication of the number of people impacted, eg 1 - 1000 font 8, 1001 - 3000 font 12, 3001 - 8000 font 16, 8000 - 2000 font 24 etc. The size of font and colour will then represent the number of respondents and their impact.
I can't use Conditional Formatting as the value of 3000 could be derived from 1000 people at level 3 (red), or 3000 people at level 1 (tan). Is there another way of setting the font size depending on the cell value, eg by VBA?

On one of our computers at work, Excel is acting especially strange. The conditional formatting in Excel on one of our computers is not working. In addition, we cannot fill a cell with any color or change the color of the writing. We can click a color for the letters and type it in, but immediately after another cell is highlighted, the writing goes black again. When we try to highlight multiple cells with the cursor, the cells are black instead of the normal color. This happens to not just spreadsheets that are new, but existing spreadsheets on our shared drive from only this one computer as well. No other computers are affected this way. All other computers show the spreadsheets fine and do not have any functionality issues.

This is my formula:
=DCOUNT(timeg15w!$A$1:$F$3909, "WPC",Criteria!A1:C2)
My question concentrates on this part of the formula:...Criteria!A1:C2
When I drag down the formula, it changes, as usually, adding 1 to the cells address, like this:
Criteria!A1:C2
Criteria!A2:C3
Criteria!A3:C4
BUT, I want the formula dragged down, adding 2 instead of 1, changing like this:
Criteria!A1:C2
Criteria!A3:C4
Criteria!A5:C6
How can I achieve this result?

I have a simple formula
=IF($D116=D1,SUM(D90:D103))
I need to drag this down but as I drag it down, the column needs to be updated by 1.
so it would look like this:
=IF($D116=D1,SUM(D90:D103))
=IF($D116=E1,SUM(E90:E103))
=IF($D116=F1,SUM(F90:F103))

I have some source data which is used to generate a pivot table. The data is conditionally formatted to color certain cells based on some other values. Once the data is transferred to the pivot table this formatting (as well as the number formatting) is lost.
I have found some code to fix the number formatting issue but can't seem to locate something similar to set the interior color of the cells in the pivot table to match that of the original source data.

I have 2 sheets in one workbook; one sheet has a chart with a data table, the other contains the source data for the chart. I want to copy and move the sheet with the chart to a new workbook, but without the source data. I break all links, but then the chart's data table takes the default values and formats in the new workbook after I break the links. For examples, the source data has formats such as currency and no decimal places. However, after copying the sheet, the data table reverts to no dollar sign and decimal places. In addition, the months on the x-axis turn to numbers when the links are broken.

I have set up a formula to sum data from specific columns in multiple sheets in the same file. The simple formula had worked perfectly until I needed the data from the last sheet. In all of the other sheets the data that I need to pull is all in consecutive rows but in the last sheet the data that I need pulled and added is in every 4th row. The sheet looks like this:
All of the columns I've filled in work fine. The ones blank are the ones I am running into issues with. When I drag down the formulas excel pulls the next consecutive rows, which is perfect for the first four sheets I am summing, but for the fifth sheet (I'll ref the Test1 column) I need it to pull 'Wayne 2014'!C6 and then 'Wayne 2014'!C10 in the next row and so forth.
Date
All Test
Test1
Test2
Test3
Test4
$ Amt.
Jan.16
=SUM(C2+D2+E2+F2)
[Code] ........
The first four sheets look like this, which is why they work fine:
Date
All Test
Test1
Test2
Test3
$ Amt.
Jan. 16
=SUM(C2:E2)
[Code] ........
The fifth sheet looks like this: I only want the formulas from the first sheet to pull the data from the dated rows in this sheet.
Date
All Test
Test1
Test2
Test3
$ Amt.
Jan. 16
=SUM(C2:E2)
=SUM(C3:C5)
[Code] ......
Is there any way in Excel 2010 to get it do what I want? (I am not sure how that one cell became outlined and I do not know how to fix it.)

I am running Excel 2010 and Windows 7.
I have a form with a main list box and several other list boxes. I drag and drop records from the main list box to the others. When I drop a record onto one of the list boxes, a corresponding worksheet is updated with the same record. This works just fine.
The problem I have is:I close and re-open the form after having added some dataDrag/Drop a record to the list boxThe worksheet won't find the first empty rowExample: If the worksheet already contains 4 rows of data, I have to drag/drop 5 times before the fifth row will be updatedI would like to drop the data the first time and have the first blank row updated
Notes:
1.) I have tried variations of "xlUp", "xlDown", and SpecialCells(xlCellTypeLastCell) in the "Worksheets("Monday")... line of code; all to no avail.
2.) The cells contain formatting (borders)
Here is the relevant code:
Code:
'Copy items from the list box to the worksheet
For intI = 1 To ListBox2.ListCount
For intJ = 1 To ListBox2.ColumnCount
If IsEmpty(Worksheets("Monday").Cells(intI + 1, intJ)) Then
Worksheets("Monday").Cells(intI + 1, intJ).Value = ListBox2.List(intI - 1, intJ - 1)
End If
Next intJ
Next intI

I use Excel 2003. I want to do a conditional formatting on a cell (e.g. A1), which value is from an If() formulas. The value could be a percentage or a text “DataNAvail”. The conditional formatting on A1 is based on another cell’s value (e.g. B1), which is also a percentage.
Since in Excel 2003 there are only three options for conditional formatting. I used two for green (A1 greater than B1) and yellow (formulas in A1 equals AND(A1<B1, A1>=B1*0.75)). I want to set A1 to red when its value <B1*0.75 or is “DataNAvail”. Since they are not the same type, I don’t know how to do it.

In column P of my Excel 2003 worksheet named: Data, I need the following text in the cells to have the interior colors (as shown below):
Any Situation - RGB = 255,204,0 (with black text);
Apples - RGB = 153, 204, 0 (with black text);
Apples / Rasberry = 153, 153, 255 (with black text);
Jam = 128,0,128 (with white text);
Nectarine = 0,0,128 (with white text);
Nectarine / Apples = 255,255,153 (with black text);
Nectarine / Rasberry = 255,204,153 (with black text);
Orange = 255,153,204 (with black text);
Rasberry = 153,204,255 (with black text); and
Sausage = 0,0,0 (with white text).
The range is P3:P20
I tried using conditional formatting but it only allowed me to use three conditions.

I am having a fit trying to get this darn spreadsheet to do what I need it to do. I have to flag rolling dates on a spreadsheet (i.e. if a training date is to occur every three years, I need for it to change colors according to the date given - like if it is past three years, then it needs to turn red. if the date is in the next six months, it needs to turn green). I have already coded the spreadsheet to change dates every day, but when I use the EDATE function in the conditional response and try to copy it to the cells in the rest of the colum, it won't work.

I have a series of tabs with data, 25 columns by 600 rows, all with numbers. A cell should be red and lined out if its' corresponding cell on the very last tab is less than 50. I've tried to name range the area on the last tab (RawBuyers) and use it in a Formula Is CF on the first worksheet, but I get errors.
I'm seeking help with a CF formula that I can apply to each tabs data range.
I've seen threads similar to my issue, so I apologize if this is redundant (but nothing I've found is doing the trick.)

I have an Excel 2003 file that contains hyperlinks to OneNote notebooks on a Sharepoint site. An Excel macro looks for these links and determines the full hyperlink address which is then assigned to a variable. An Outlook message is generated which includes the hyperlinks.
The hyperlinks work in the Excel file. I can also copy them from OneNote and manually paste them into an Outlook message and they work. However, when I obtain their full address and transfer that to the email through code, the links do not work. The hyperlink address from OneNote starts with "onenote:http" which is not recognized as a link.
If I can do this manually, there must be a way to do this with vba. Are there characters I need to include in the OneNote hyperlink address to make this work? Is there another way to transfer the working link from Excel to Outlook?

I built a template which pulls data from the source file using formulas. the problem is formulas doesn't give any error it updates the right value when the source workbook is open.
I Thought problem could be with the formula and tried just Source A1=destination A1. it also updates only if the source file is open. when the source file is closed it shows the last captured value.
The source file is on the (Work) Network Drive and is accessible to few people. my template is password protected (tabs) so formulas cannot be deleted.

I am using Excel 2010 and have a workbook with two sheets - "Risks & Issues" which contains the source data and "Risks - Summary" which contains a Pivot Table called "Dashboard"
I would like to create a command button called 'Refresh Data' which will be on the "Risks - Summary" sheet. When I add a new line to the "Risks & Issues" sheet, I would click the button in "Risks - Summary" and it will update the Pivot Table range.
So far I've tried using some examples found on this site, although with no experience in VBA macros, I'm not really sure what they do; all I know is that they cause an error.
Code:
Sub Refresh_Click()
Sheets("Risks - Summary").PivotTables("Dashboard").SourceData = Sheets("Risks & Issues").Range("A2").CurrentRegion.Address(True, True, xlR1C1, True)
End Sub

I am working with Excel 2010.
There are certain .xlsm files in our system (some have macros and others don't) which generate "Error: Source not Found" in the Edit Links dialog box when the Check Status button is pushed. However, the source location is correct, as you can click on Open Source and it will open the correct file.
For simplicity of explaining my issue, consider the following scenario. In my workbook "Corn Production Summary.xls_" I link to 2 source files: "Iowa.xlsm" and "Nebraska.xlsx" (Note: The extension of the summary file doesn't matter. This error happens regardless of what the summary is.)
When I open "Corn Production Summary" I am prompted to update values. I select Update and the file refreshes and recalculates appearing to have updated all values (i.e. no error messages). However, the values from Iowa.xlsm did NOT update and there was no error message indicating that the values didn't update.
To confirm this, I go to Data>Edit Links>Check Status in "Corn Production Summary" and I see that Iowa.xlsm has the "Error: Source not Found" error. I click on Open Source and once the file is open, my data in the summary file will update.
One work around was to do the following process (with the summary file closed):
1) Iowa.xlsm and Save As Iowa.xlsx (removing macros if needed)
2) Save As Iowa.xlsx as Iowa.xlsm (overwriting the file that is currently there and readding the macros)
3) Open the summary file and both Iowa and Nebraska work just fine now.
There are a lot of files like this, and because Excel doesn't prompt us that it isn't really getting the values from these certain .xlsm files we would have to search in "Edit Links" for each file to make sure that they really are updating.
