I have inherited a number of databases in work (running Office 2003). It has quickly become apparant that a vast amount of work is duplicated and so i am trying to cut down the data input and therefore the possible errors.......
I have narrowed most of the work down and now have a major worksheet (is that what you call a complete Excel file) named "master database" and several over minor files....
Currently what i am trying to do is to get one of the minor files to auto populate an area of the master database. I will try to explain it below...
1. Minor database has 2 columns with data i require to auto populate the master database. (1 column (B) is called 'off', the 2nd column (C) is called 'on').
2. A number will be inputed manually into either 'B' only or 'B and C' columns, depending on the criteria of the job..
3. The criteria of the job is dictated by column (Z) where the text 'A' or 'ATL' is inputed
4. The master database i would like to add up the numbers inputed as a total from columns 'off' and 'on' and place them into seperate columns 'E' and 'G' of the master database.
5. IF column (Z) shows 'A' then only column (B) 'off' is to be calculated and put into the master database at column (E)
6. IF column (Z) shows 'ATL' then BOTH columns (B and C) 'on' AND 'off' are to be added together and column (G) populated on the master database.....
To make mattters more complex. An expiry date is shown on the master database at columns (D) and (F). IF column (E) does not exceed 12 by the expiry date, i would like the cell (D) to turn red IF column (G) does not exceed 10 by the expiry date, I would like the cell (F) to turn red
I have a file with 300k lines of SKU data. This is data by month for 12 months (so roughly 25K SKUs per month, with changes in SKUs each month.) I take this data and pivot it and drop it into a file.
I noticed last month when I prepared that the SKUs have names next to them, and sometimes the information is pull by the name instead of the SKU. Unfortunately, in the master data, someone entered different names in a few of the months. So for example, in some months SKU 0012 is Green B and in other months it's Green Beans. I need the names to be the same.
Is there a quick way to fix this given that I'll have 12 records and maybe 3 will be one name and 9 will be there other? Finding and replacing every one is a chore because on pivot there are 40k. I don't think I can do a quick remove duplicates because it would remove multiple months. I just want each SKU to have the same name.
I have a number of separate worksheets in one spreadsheet all based on the same list (eg customers); the customer's name is the first column and hence the 'key' in each worksheet; when I insert or delete a line in the main worksheet the formulae in the first (customer name) column are amended in the other worksheets BUT I ideally need more than that; when I insert a new customer in the first (main worksheet) I need a new line with that customer name inserting into the corresponding place in the other worksheets; and when I move a line (eg delete a customer and move them to the bottom of the main worksheet list) I need the corresponding lines in the other worksheets moving as well. I guess what I really need is a drill-down function; a main customer list and sub-lists all linking back to the main lists like you would get in database tables.
I have a worksheet with data in it. The data could be in any column or row. I am looking for data which contains the numbers 01. If I find such data, I want to move all the data in that particular cell it to column A.
My code(which is not working) is below. I'm using Excel 2003.
Code: Sub delete_oldads() 'the code to find 01 Dim cel As Range
I used to use Excel many many years ago for all my basic business databases and pivot table reports (so was at a basic competency level) and want to use it again but it has been quite a while and I can't remember how to do the following.....
I want to build a database of sales and purchase info in say 'sheet 1' - let's say 30 different headed columns and then many lines of different information under each column.
In 'sheet 2' I want to create an invoice template of my own design (I can do easily) for printing.
This template will need to extract say 10 bits of information from a particular row and then put them in a certain place on this sheet.
How can I type in one piece of information in a cell on sheet 2 (say the invoice or line number of the database) and that will then trigger all the other needed information from that particular line in sheet one onto this template?
I know it can be done but for life of me can not remember the formulas to use for these other cells in sheet 2 based on the info put in that one 'trigger' cell
I some code that reduces a long list of dates from one source of data (in its own worksheet) down to a unique list of dates (on another worksheet). I need to create a new worksheet for each date in the range (named for the date), and then allocate each line item for that date in the source data into its repsective worksheet.
I wanted to see if there is a VBA code to do the following :
a) Select a TabText Delimited file based on a criteria b) Import the Selected Data to Excel
I have the vba code where I can open the tab text delimited file in excel, use a selection criteria and then copy the data into excel. But I am having problems with the case where the Tab Text Delimited file exceeds the row limit that excel currently has and wanted to see if the data import can be done without opening the text file into excel at all.
I have a pivot table which I want to force the all of the pivot table items to be selected for a particular pivot table field. One would think that this would be as easy as unlocking all cells on the sheet with the exception of this pivot field and then locking the worksheet. This doesn't work though as I am generating multiple pivot tables on the same workbook for the same range and I get this message: "this command cannot be performed while a protected sheet contains another PivotTable report based on the same data source...".
My thinking is that I can do something along the lines of this:
Private Sub Worksheet_PivotTableUpdate(ByVal Target As PivotTable) Dim oPI As PivotItem Application.ScreenUpdating = False If Target.PivotFields("Item Sold").PivotItems.Count Target.PivotFields("Item Sold").VisibleItems.Count Then
This is failing right away though on the If Target.Pivot.... line.
I am trying to create a macro that will change all pivot fields with a certain name to the value I have the master pivot changed to. For example, I have 5 pivot tables, which each contain the field "Fruit". I want to change the 1st pivot table to "Apples", "Oranges", and "Pears" as active values, and then run the macro, making the other fruit fields also have these values. I can do it for single items, but when I need to do multiple items, I get an error message. I'm not sure how to write in VBA in order to do this.
Excel 2003. I have a list of names in column A, dates in column B, I need the difference between dates for the people in column A, I am doing it now with the formula shown but I need a formula to put in column C that will look at the name in column A, for that row, and then find that name above it and give me the difference between the to dates in column B. So in the example below if I put the formula in C7 it would look at A6-A2 for harry and then give me the difference between B7 and B4, 6 days, if there is not a match return blank.
I'm looking to simply delete certain words that are in cells, without having to delete rows, columns or the entire cell. I can use 'find and replace' and replace the particular word with a space, but I really want to delete the word. I'm using both Excel 2003 and 2000.
It works fine with several versions of Excel (2003, 2010, and 2013). But the problem arises when I move from Windows XP to Windows 7 or 8.
I use a scanner to scan barcode serial numbers into a textbox, and then populate these serial numbers with other associated data into a spreadsheet. The serial numbers are supposed to be separated by each line and placed into an array.
I get a compile error "Cant find project or library" with CHR highlighted in blue from this line of code...
SNs = Split(Str, Chr(10))
Once again, it works fine on many machines with XP, but not on Win 7 or 8.
We just upgraded to Office 2010 and now on many of my regular Excel files, when I open them in the new version, the last row that's visible in the window ends up with some massively huge row height such that you can't even page down past it.
I can resolve it easily by clicking on the row number and re-sizing it, but I'm getting tired of doing that.
I am currently trying to create a database of products for my company. For each product I would like to include an image associated with it. I then want to have on another sheet a place where the user will click an error and be able to cycle through the products. As tehy cycle the associated image will pop up.
What I need to understand is after importing the image into excel, how do I associate that image to a cell so I can reference it in another sheet of the database. I am not concerned with how large the database will get, my pictures are quite small.
I'm tasked with looking up part numbers in Epicor's ERP database and entering the labor cost into excel. Is there any way to write a macro or VB program that lokks at the part number in excel, goes into epicor, pulls finds the part number and cut and pastes the cost data.
which databases people are using with importing excel data into a database.
I want to know people's experiences on different databases and suggestions on which database i can use maybe.
On this moment i do everything in excel, but excel is not longer working properly because of large files that need to be connected to 1 or more sheets.
This is the situation now:
VAX (Dos bases database) -> Comma seperated Files -> Importing in Excel -> Linking the data to sheets. Now I want to have a database where i can do all normal operations to have a good look and the situation of stock status, ordered parts, sales etc. (inventory control)
Who has experiences with databases ? And what are you doing with that database?
I've got a main workbook (excel 2007) with a main spreadsheet where i group all the information (text and values) about brands and models linked to 10 workbooks (brands) with several spreadsheets (one spreadsheet=one model).
On the main spreadsheet I've got 16 lines for each model which they have the follow formulas, wich are linked to other workbook / spreadsheet (Mar/Gato)
The difference between above values is 13, it corresponds 12 months and the total column (12+1)
For the formula 3) the table array its the same, the only difference is instead of starting A$3, starts in A$2
5) The update of the formulas 1) 2) 3) for 2014
I'm doing this manually... The formulas are updated like this, for 2013, I've got table array A$3:$AE$78 and the return value (;17, then for 2014 i will have a table array A$3:$AR$78 and the return value will be (;30, and so on
5) Change the network drive
For other reasons I've to change my files to another network drive, something like this:
6) Main Goal
I was thinking using Excel's regular Find and Replace feature to change:
- The network drive designation - the table array area - The return value
But I don't know if this process ( Find and Replace) is safe and clean. I'm doing this manually and I've got on the main worbook/sheet 4000 lines with 3 formulas its 12000 operations!I'm on the 350 line....!
The main goal is to update the all formulas (links) to "brand" workbooks and inside "model" spreadsheets automatically with a macro.
I am trying to create a database that contains data taken from several work books that i have saved in one folder on my hard drive. These workbooks contain quite a lot ** data, but i only want to extract the data i want to instead ** having to extract it all? these works books are used by several other people as well, so i want it to be able to update as data changes.
I was thinking about using data links, but that only seems to extract all the data instead ** just what i want?
What I am trying to do is extract all the data from a excel database based on criteria. When i specify the site and month I need to pull all the corresponding data and write it to a worksheet. Below is an example. I am not allowed to show all the data it is confidential.
Site Date Operator Month Chicago 12/3/11 Daniel December San Jose 4/8/12 Mike April New York 4/8/12 John April
use CTRL+ Navigation Arrow Key on keyboard i.e. if you wanna go to the last Non-Blank row in a column press CTRL+Down Arrow key if your range contains empty cells then use this shortcut SHIFT+CTRL+Arrow key
if you wanna Get the Value of cell in a column you can use this formula
This formula will work only if there is no Blank Cell in the range.
I'm working on an Excel based product. As part of the security process I would like to require the user to enter a product id key into excel. Then the spreadsheet would compare the entered value to some kind of online database to verify the id key is valid. Finally, the spreadsheet would update the online database so that the id key is no longer functional. How easy is this to do?
I know verifying that the id key is valid is fairly simple.
Here is my biggest issue: How to get Excel to update the database and of course what form would this database take. Maybe its a table on a webpage, or google docs. Again the issue is how would I be able to update the table.
