Excel 2010 :: Multiple CSV Files - Macro To Point Folder Where These Saved
May 11, 2012
I'm working on a project where I need to import 150 csv files into an Excel2010 workbook, with each csv file being on a seperate worksheet.
I would like to set up a macro to point to the folder I will have these saved in this up so that each month when I get updated csv files I can repeat the process and bring in the new data. how to create this, I'm very new to VBA?

I have obtained a piece of code from online that runs a macro on multiple files in a single given a single folder. when i implement it though it throws a run time error 424 "object required' and point to 'Documents.Open FileName:=path & file' line of code. Is this because Dim file type is not declared?how do i fix this problem. also, im using excel 2010.A
VB:
Sub Mac()

For the last year I have been downloading cash register X1 and Z1 files onto an SD card. Each night's files (X1 & Z1) are stored in a new folder with the naming convention "RP + [DATE]", (EX: RP120910, [YYMMDD]). I have 265 folders! I need to go through each folder, select the Z1 file (I don't care about the X1, X2 or Z2 files) and rename each with the following naming convention: "Z1 + folder_name + .xls". For Example: Folder RP120910 contains the Z1 file named "Z1_T1729.ECR". After renaming, the file should be "Z1RP120910.xls". As the VBA code loops through each subfolder, selecting and renaming the Z1 files, I would like the new files to be placed into a new folder named "Z1Files". Note: All subfolders are currently in a directory named "RegisterFiles". I am using Excel 2010.

I have an Excel application (Excel 2003) which is stored in the default Program Files folder by the Installer; for example: c:program fileszxchello.xls. The problem I am running into is this file opens as Read Only in Vista and this is interfering with the running of the application. There is no problem opening the file normally in Windows XP.
I have been able to narrow down the cause of this to the User Account Control system in Vista - if I turn OFF User Account Control, the Excel file opens normally and my application functions normally. Is there another option to open the Excel file without turning OFF User Account Control because some users may find it unacceptable to turn OFF this security feature. Ofcourse, one option is to install the application in another location, outside the Program Folder, and the file would open normally, but the Packaging Wizard that I am using to package the application does not allow me to install the application in any other location and thus, the application installs in the Program Folder and I am running into this problem of the Exel file opening as Read Only. Is there a way out of this situation where I can open the file normally (not as Read Only)?

Excel 2010, Windows 7
I have a whole ton of *.dbf files (98 to be exact), that are from ArcGIS shapefiles. These date1_date2.dbf files have point names, and values, as shown below.
NAMERASTERVALU
Point 1-9999.00000000
Point 2-9999.00000000
Point 3-9999.00000000
Point 4-4.93072701
Point 5-8.90071201
I'm trying to figure out how to transpose each of the dbf files and save them as a text file (tab deliminated). My original plan involved saving them all as text files, then using a convoluted Unix script (I'm what you call a "dirty programmer") to transpose them and then combine them all into a single file. Since there are so many files (and I plan to do this in the future as well), I thought if I could at least automate the text file creation, I'd be ahead of the game. Even better would be a macro that will transpose the data for EACH file, then create a 99 (98 files + header row) row, 5 column text file. Creating the text files (1 text file for each dbf file) automatically .
All the *.dbf files will have exactly the same # rows/columns (2 columns, 6 rows)
This is what I've tried so far.
1)open one of the dbf files in Excel
2)record my marco (using the Personal Macro Workbook option - so it will be available in any workbook)
2a) transpose data (and paste it right below the original data so that the new data is in rows 7 and 8 of the same file)
2b) save as text file (tab deliminated)
2c) stop recording, and end up with this:
NAMERASTERVALU
Point 1-9999.00000000
Point 2-9999.00000000
Point 3-9999.00000000
Point 4-4.93072701
Point 5-8.90071201
NAMEPoint 1Point 2Point 3Point 4Point 5
RASTERVALU-9999.00000000-9999.00000000-9999.00000000-4.93072701-8.90071201
So now I want to apply the macro I just created to all open workbooks (after I bring in all the bdf files), but the macro isn't listed when I click the "view macros" button. All I want to do is apply the steps I recorded in the macro to all open workbooks.

I would like my macro to go to a certain folder- in this case N:Aexeo ClientsJabre2008Excel Diet Run, open each workbook therein ( to this end I have found the first part of the code below on another thread) and perform the ExcelDietMacro (also below). I am missing something though as nothing is happening, would anyone know from a quick glance what is wrong? Should I have these as 2 seperate Sub End Subs or combined into one? I know that the Excel Diet is correct thanks to the original designer and Rory on the forum for getting it adjusted to my needs.
Also each workbook within the folder will have the same password to open, is it possible to insert some code in the macro to do this automatically?
Sub LoopFiles()
Dim MyFileName, MyPath As String
Dim MyBook As Workbook
MyPath = "N:Aexeo ClientsJabre2008Excel Diet Run"
MyFileName = Dir(MyPath & "*.xls")
Do Until MyFileName = ""
Workbooks.Open MyPath & MyFileName
Set MyBook = ActiveWorkbook
Application.Run "ExcelDietMacro"
MyBook.Save
MyBook.Close
MyFileName = Dir
Loop
End Sub
Sub ExcelDietMacro()
'

I have 400ish departmental budget files in a folder that I need to upload to a Sharepoint doc library. The files in the folder will have to exactly match the files we already have set up in sharepoint in order to upload them to the sharepoint site. As it stands now there is only one consistency between the sharepoint files and the budget files in the folder, which is the department number (which every file in both begins with).
I'm thinking some sort of macro will let me insert a sheet into each of the files in the budget folder, which would have a formula that pulls the department number from a certain sheet in the file, and produce the file name I want into a certain cell. Then I would like a macro that goes into each file and renames it based on that cell. I'd like to know if this is possible and if there may be a better way to do it.

I have small bit of import code (below), that I am looking to modify. The data that I am importing is for an inventory tool that determine optimal on hand quantities and alerts to any issues. In the past there had been one inventory source (one .csv data file). So I populate that to one sheet and modify the data on that sheet. I now have multiple data sources that I need to address.
There are two things that I would like to add/be able to do.
1) I would like to add a dropdown or set of multiple buttons to the popup window that says "Select the OnHand Report". Previously I only had one report source which I posted to sheet "orow0205". I have 2 other data files now that I have to import and they need to go to sheets "orow0206" and "orow2144". I am grabbing the data the same way on each sheet so that doesnt need to change I just need the option on the pop up window to determine the sheet name I want the import to go to.
2) The files that come from the sources above have a file name like "20121213_00000_groupstatistics.csv". Where the first eight digits represent the date the file was generated. If possible, after I select the sheet via the popup solve above, I would like to have the date populated in "MM/DD/YYYY" format in the last column of the imported data (the same date for each row of data imported). The file imported has no date data on it and can represent any day (which is why I am not using some form of TODAY formula).
I am currently using Excel 2010.
Sub AddData()
' Import_New_data
'
'Open Datafile

I need a macro in a workbook to look at all the files in the same folder that have "*att*.xls" in the name and determine and copy from the range A15:W515 only the rows that have data in at least columns A, C and D. Each file will vary as to how many rows there will be and there are more than the files with "*att*.xls" in the folder. The data will be on the only worksheet in each file and the worksheet is named "G2WAttendee_xls" the data from all the files need to be copied to the file called "Consolidated webinar reports.xls" (I am using Excel 2003) and to a sheet called "Attendance Data" and added to the end of the last paste.
At the start of the macro the current file "Consolidated webinar report.xls" should be saved to a sub folder of the current directory and have the date saved added to the name. The sub folder is called "Completed reports". The data in the original file on worksheet "Attendance Data" should be deleted.
At the end of the process all the files that have had data copied from them should be moved to the sub folder "Attendance reports consolidated" (This could be done as each file is closed if that is easier).
I have headings in row 1 of the "Attendance Data" worksheet that match the headings in the various files in the folder (which will always be in row 14 of the individual "*att*.xls" files).
The folder with all the files and the "Consolidated webinar report.xls" file is at path "Z:P and S MEvaluationsWebinar series 2012-13TB".

I have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet which I need to print to PDF. There is a simple "Save as" PDF option which always fails with just the message "Document not saved". I created a simple test sheet with just a few numbers on to check it isn't due to complexities with the particular workbook. This works on my home PC (Windows 7) but not on the Windows 7 Club PC which is where I need to run it to generate the output which eventually will go to the club's website.
It also fails the same way if I try to create an XPS file (although I don't want an XPS file).
This fails from the normal user interface "Save As". I also tried it from a VBA macro and run it: I get Run-time error '-2147467261 (80004003)' Document not saved
I've googled endlessly but all the references I tried failed to uncover a solution. I was a bit surprised that this doesn't seem particularly common and most of the reports seem to be a couple of years old or older (no workarounds were useful).

I is it possible to convert all comma separated text files in a single folder in to excel files. But the requirement is to have 2 sheets in each new file. first to be the full file - with all columns, and in the second sheet to keep only colum A B D G H K L M O P R S T V W from the first sheet. The second sheet name must be the same as the first one but without the first "wlist_" in the name.
One more thing. The third column in the second is called "COUL". there are short letters for colors in french
can they be converted with the sort in English like it goes:
NO = B
BA = W
RG = R
SO = P
JA = Y
BE = L
VE = GY
GR = G
VI = V
MA = BR
BJ = TA
OR = O
Here is a link to the both CSV and an example excel file with the end result. In this example i haven`t change the shorts for the colors. It takes me too much time with the find and replace function. And at the moment i`m really pushed from time.

I am using excel 2010 on windows 8. I load a file which has been sent to me via e-mail and save it with an upgraded name, I then do a large amount of data input and save the file again, I do this regularly and even test load it at times to check it has saved, finally I save and close the file and then on reloading I discover the version I have is the first one I saved! all the work I have done on it has disappeared! I also sometimes find random .tmp files with non-sensical names in the folder to which I have saved, but I do not have the rights to open these .tmp files.

I have XYZ Coordinates for a continuous 3-D line that has numerous segments. I want to input a distance along that line, and have it create the XYZ coordinates at that point. See Image for reference.
Row 2 is my start point - I input the initial coordinates here - this point is the origin of the 3-D line
Column B is where I want the calculated Y value to go for each point
Column C is where I want the calculated X value to go
Column D is where I want the calculated Z Value to go
Column E is the how far along the 3-D line that the (to be calculated) point should be at. (MD1)
Columns G, H, & I are given to me, and I use this data to generate the coordinates in Columns J, K, & L
Column O is the cumulative length of the line at that coordinate. (MD2)
Basically, I had planned on writing a formula to:
Find the coordinates of the point who's MD2 (column O) is before the desired point's MD1 (column E)Find the coordinates of the point who's MD2 (column O) is after the desired point's MD1 (column E)Subtract MD's (column O) to get the length of the segmentFind the distance along that segment that MD1 (column E) fallsUse that distance to traverse along that line to the desired point.

I would like a macro to be able to save 26 tabs within the one document to individual PDFs.Preferably I would like to be able to specify each time exactly which tabs get printed, because often I don't need to print all 26, just the first 10 or so.I would like each PDF to automatically be named with the value in cell E10 of each tab.E10 already has a formula to create its final value. It references cells from other tabs within the same document. Hopefully the fact that this cell has a formula in it won't affect my ability to use the resulting value as a 'save as' reference?I would like it if the PDFs save to the same location as the Excel sheet from which they're generated is located. The location of the excel sheet will change every three months, so I'd prefer not to specify a location with a specific filepath, as it will have changed by the time I run the macro again.
I am using Excel 2010.

I have attached a test workbook excel 2010 (ignore ref# errors, I've cut the workbook down for uploading purposes) What I would like to do is have a 'Button' on my 'information Sheet' which when clicked would clear certain cells. I have searched the forum but can't find a solution, everyone seems to want to delete rows or columns but I just want to clear certain cells. The workbook will have 11 sheets each named 'caravan 1' through to 'caravan 11' The uploaded test workbook only only has 3 sheets.
On 'caravan 1' (which is slightly different to the other 10) I want to clear the content of cells
B4 & B5
C4, C22 & C41
D4 & D5
E4,E5, E22,E23,E41 &E 42
On all other 'Caravan sheets' I want to clear the contents of cells
D4 & D5
E4, E5, E22, E23, E41 & E42
It would be icing on the cake if it could give a warning such as " are you sure you want to clear these cells" but that isn't really necessary. The worksheets will be password protected, but the cells mentioned above will not be. If it proves too difficult to clear all the cells on all the sheets with one click, then perhaps a simpler solution might be to have a button on each sheet instead

I have some daily text files in a folder (so about 30 of them each month), which in the end of month, I need to open them up in excel, format them so that I can use the information for my analysis.
I would like to create a macro, to quickly open them all up at once and save them each individually in .xls or .xlsm format.
I am new to VBA and after some research online, I was able to have the files open with the following code. but now I don't know how to proceed further to save them one by one with the same name but in .xls or .xlsm format.
Sub Opentxtfiles()

I have a folder that contains around 45 excel files, each of these files contain a tab called "corp val". (these files change name month to month e.g. Report June, Report July etc)
I am finding on a monthly basis i need to go into each of these excel files and copy the data from the "corp val" tab into a summarized spreadsheet - which i then use the data for various things.
Just wondered if there was a solution to this or will it always be difficult to copy and pasting all the data i need. I am not in anyway an advanced excel user, I am guessing this might be some form of macro in which case I am maybe better to keep doing it the way I was as I am not literate in macros.

Is all of this possible, or will I need to change each individually? If you need more information, let me know.

I am currently attempting to use an excel macro to allow me to send a list of files to one person. I have managed to create a dynamic list where one sheet of the workbook has the list of files and checkboxes, and as certain ones are selected they appear in a list on the 'front sheet' of my workbook, which has the button to send the email.
My front sheet is set up in a way that in cell B3 I have the desired email address, B4 contains the subject and from B5 to B30 I have the list of selected attachments (although the length of the list obviously varies depending on the amount of files selected, when all are selected the list extends to B30).
I have the below vba code that allows me to create an email with the address and subject and attaches the file address from cell B5, but I would like to attach all the files in the list and am struggling to change the code to do so.
Code:
Sub CreateMail()
Dim objOutlook As Object
Dim objMail As Object
Dim rngTo As Range
Dim rngSubject As Range
Dim rngAttach As Range
Set objOutlook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
[Code] ........
I can add more by creating new ranges (rngAttach1, rngAttach2, rngAttach3 etc) and setting these to their respective locations but if, for example, only two files are selected, the list only covers cells B5 and B6, so when the macro looks up the file directory in B7 (rngAttach3) it returns an error because obviously there is nothing for it to find.
I have attempted to compile a loop and change the code to the version shown below but am having no luck.
Code:
Sub CreateMail()
Dim objOutlook As Object
Dim objMail As Object
Dim rngTo As Range
Dim rngSubject As Variant
Dim rngAttach As String
Dim iLoop As Long
[Code] ....

I want to open all csv files in a folder and just copy and paste some columns into another file. I am having a bit of trouble with the following code which can be found at ozgrid and I have modified slightly so it looks in the current directory instead of a fixed path...
Code:
Sub RunCodeOnAllFiles()
Dim lCount As Long
Dim MyDir as string
[Code]....
For starters, if I don't use on error resume next I get a runtime error 445: object doesn't support this action. So when I use the on error resume next, then by the time it gets to the foundfiles line, there are no variables set, so on the next line (workbooks.open) nothing happens.
Is there an easier (more up to date?) method to open all csv files (or excel files) in a folder?
