View 3 RepliesI would like to exclude blanks from the source of a validation list, I have found a really neat solution for vertical list in this topic, I have modified it, but I have missed something, the formula is not working.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have created data validation list which has 3 flags (Yes, No and Blank). Normally the user will select either Yes or No from column C but i want each time there is no value in either row A or B; i want the code to automatically to select Blank. So basically every time row A or B are blank i want the corresponding row C to be selected "Blank". See attached for more details.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI want to create a validation list with value comming from formula and I got blanks line. I have to create a dynamic list, I can have 15 possibility and it came from a lookup formula. When I choose the 15 cell with the lookup formula it show the empty cell. I did a exemple of my problem. You can check the attachement to understand my problem in the cell C1.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to be able to make the same thing and select items for my drop down list, that are not blak and follow a specific condition. But I don't know how to include the condition in the array formula.
The condition I need is follow:
I want to have a dropdown list with Items that are not blank, and First N > Last N.

It would be preferred to have formulas.
All I would like is to put the result of this Excel formula in the D column:
=TEXT(B10-C10,"mm:ss")
starting from row 10, provided that both B and C for the row exist (are nonblanks).
In column A I have a list of text. There are blank lines in between the cell that actually contain text. What I am trying to accomplish is create a validation list that will give me only the cells with text in them and ignore the blanks. For example in column A1:A7 I have the following text:
John
Mike
Tony
Jake
My validation list will return those names but will also give me the blanks in between the names.
Is there any way to ignore the blanks?
I am using Excel 07 with Vista, and creating a spreadsheet in which users will be inputting a record into every row.
There is a row that requires a number to be entered, where some of the numbers will begin with 0 or 00 or even 0000. I want to make sure no-one incorrectly enters a letter, however with data validation set to whole numbers, it formats the cell to change an entry of "005667" into just "5667". There is no set length for the field.
The only way to have "005667" is the change the column to text, but then obviously that defeats the whole purpose!
I'm trying to do a Data Validation list where there is a range from A1:A10 named List, but there are only values in A1:A5.
For the drop down menu, I've done the Data Validation and List, and made it =List. The problem with that is, I only want the drop down to give the options if there is a value (A1:A5 not all of A1:A10). I thought that the Ignore blanks feature would do that, but it does absolutely nothing.
I have 2 validation boxes. The first is a simple list of 5 options (based on
a 'name' range). The second is a filter of a larger list depending on the
answer in the first box. I have made my 'name' range as big as the largest
list but other lists are quite short. The problem I have it that the drop
down box is showing all the blank cells in my 'name' range.
The bigger problem is that when you select the pull down it highlights the
blank field first instead of the first item on the list so you have to scroll
up. This is a problem as staff think there is nothing on the list. So how do
I either not show the blanks or get the drop down to start at the top of the
list?
I have a data validation list, but i dont want the user to be able to make the cell blank. I have 5 items in the list and i wont to make sure they choose one. But the data validation allows them to enter blank.
I have a data entry worksheet where a user may use the space bar to delete a wrong entry instead of the delete key. How can I allow this without triggering an error message for a cell which is valid for blanks or a positive number including 2 decimals? The checkbox for "Ignore Blanks" does NOT ignore this is the cell is blanked with the space bar.

So my question is that how should I change the code the 0 value will be excluded from the result list.
I have a table for gym members and each member is assigned a unique member number.

I wish to create a data validation field that wont allow you to leave the cells blank or use the same code twice.
this was my attempt that failed: =AND(ISERROR(MATCH(A:A, A2, 0)) <>FALSE, A2<>""
I am using the following to compile data into a master workbook
With Application.FileSearch
.NewSearch
.LookIn = SrchDir
.SearchSubFolders = False
.FileType = msoFileTypeExcelWorkbooks
.LastModified = msoLastModifiedAnyTime
.Filename = "*.xls"
If .Execute > 0 Then
For Each vaFileName In .FoundFiles
' If vaFileName = Exclude Then GoTo n ' maybe something like this ?
ProcessData vaFileName
n: Next
and then processing each file, and adding it to the master. This is run every time a user opens the workbook. The number of workbooks in this folder is fairly large and more are added every day. What I would like to do is, compile a list of file names that have already been processed (I can handle that part) and then exclude them the next time the master book compiles from that folder. so if the master was run September 16th, all the data up to that point is already in the master and a list of those files is on a sheet in the book, now if the book is opened again on October 1st, it will look at the list first and only add the data from Sept. 17th through Oct 1st.
The file names I'm dealing with are named by date ie: 9-16-06.xls. The folder they're in is on a server so I can't just kill the directory after processing so that only new files are there, other people may need access to them. I think this may be handled at the "If Execute > 0" part of the code but am not adept enough to know how to do it. Possibly set "Execute" as a variant and have it cycle through the list
I have a dynamic named range which allows me to have an automatically growing drop down list in B1 as more cities are added in column A. however, my workbook will have N/A errors to begin with before cities are added.
is there a way for my drop down list in B1 not to include the N/A errors and only the cities? of course when the next N/A error turns into a city, i would like the B1 drop down list to recognise this and include it.
Data is in a horizantal list, say row 2:
A2: SAM
B2:
C2: MARY
D2: JOE
E2:
F2: DAViD
i.e. like this:
SAM-blank-MARY-JOE-blank-DAVID
I am looking for formulas (not VBA) to compact this list by removing the blanks so the new will be placed in K2, L2, M2 etc. as follows:
SAM-MARY-JOE-DAVID
This is a good article but only works on vertical lists:

I think this must be fairly easy to do. I've found various posts here and tips elsewhere that indicate ways to do this, but I've not found one I could get to work.
I have a column with numbers in it. These numbers are formatted as TEXT (because they are 001, 002, etc). This list is generated by pulling the unique values from another column where these numbers are repeated.
In the following example, B has the original data. H has the same data with just the unique values. That is how far I have got. What I now want is what you see in Column I (the unique values with NO BLANKS in it).
B | H | I |
-------------------------------------------
001 001 001
001 002
001 003
002 002
002
002
003 003
003
003
I am aware that I can use an Advanced Filter (not that I manage to get that to work without it generate an erro). But this is not what I want, as I'd like the data in I to be dynamically generated such that if more unique values are added to B then H will reflect this (it does that at present) and then I will also reflect this.
I need to generate a list of items from a column of data which frequently changes. In the attached example, I need to list all entries other than those that are blank (NB - the data generates the numbers as text and the blanks as "").
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a master list from which certain items are chosen and displayed in several other lists based on always changing conditions. The way i have these other lists set up displays the items in the same row as the master list using IF Formula nested with Exact functions to qualify it. If the item isn't qualified to be in a list then I get a blank cell. Is there any way to consolidate these lists so they don't have lots of blank cells?? I would like it to happen automatically as my lists are always changing.

Is there any possibility to choose YES or no in any cell an reflect the same value in another list on another sheet.
I'm not sure if its possible to do what I want. I'm trying to do it without VBA as my users might have a high macro security setting.
I have a validation dropdown in A2 where they pick 'yes' or 'no' for FLSA. I would like B2 to be a dropdown (validation, listbox, whatever) that would change based upon A2. If A2 is 'yes' I want to use the data in A5:B7 and if its 'no' use A10:B12. Ultimately I want B2 to equal one of the numbers from A5 - A7 or A10 - A12. However when they click on the drop down they see the combo of column A and columb B as column A has no meaning for the user.
I have a list of data with 2 column. One is a column of unique values, the other column has a lot of blanks.
I'd like to auto generate both columns without any of the blank data from column 2. I've attached a mock spreadsheet of what I'm invisioning.
Is it possible to insert a formula that skips blanks while copying a list? For example: If I have a list and make a column next to the list to put an "x" in if I want to see that info in another list, is there a way to pull the info over with a formula and skip blanks to create a clean list?Color

I would like to create a list with reference to IF (E1:E150=1) list F1:F150
No Blanks. Cells E1:E150 will be either a 1 or a blank.
The new list will be created in cells Y5:Y whatever. List will then become a drop down list.
I have created the list but it has blanks between names and I just want the names....
at present i have data in column A That could look like
a1 = fred
a2 to a6 is blank
a7 =bill
a8 is blank
a9 = steve
a10 to a 20 is blank
what the idea is that a1 get copied to a2,a3,a4,a5,a6
a7 get copied to a8
a9 get copied to a10 to a20
these cells could vary on what information is in them and what cells contain information or not
my macro goes to a1 looks for the last cell with data in it then copies itto the cell below then loops back to a1 ans repeats itself
this macro takes about 1 minute to run as the column has about 5000 cells being used. is there a faster way to do this
I've got a large selection of lists on drop down menu's the second drop down is based on the selection of the first but when you select the second drop down it starts at the bottom with lots of blanks you have to scroll up to get to the top of the list how do I make this start at the top and ignore the blanks?
I've got the ignore blanks box ticked on the data validation but it doesn't make any difference?
I have created a checklist using "Marlett" checkboxes. I have the names of choices in column B the Checkboxes in column C. In another sheet I want to populate only the names of the choices chosen without any of the spaces that a traditional if statement would populate if it was copied down a column.
