Exclude Text From Numbers In Named Range?
Nov 6, 2012
I have a speadsheet where I have a cell that reads a named range via OFFSET. The range consists mainly of numbers but a few cells contain the text UL (Unlimited)
The cell that "reads" the OFFSET is then used in another cell where it is multiplied by either 2 or 3 depending on user input.
The problem occurs where the cell attempts to multiply the text "UL" which results in "#VALUE!"
How can I have this cell with the multiplication bypass the multiplication and simply return the text "UL" in the case of reading text from the named range.

I have a dynamic named range which allows me to have an automatically growing drop down list in B1 as more cities are added in column A. however, my workbook will have N/A errors to begin with before cities are added.
is there a way for my drop down list in B1 not to include the N/A errors and only the cities? of course when the next N/A error turns into a city, i would like the B1 drop down list to recognise this and include it.

I'm trying to sum up the total of a list excluding a list like this:
Column B
012*
019*
1758*
70228
70229
70230
70241
In my worksheet 1, it contains e.g.
Column AC
012-something
012-text
019-jumbo
016-things
70228
70221
Column W contains the numbers I want to add up:
$15
$12
$10
$19
$15
$11
My current formula is:
=SUMPRODUCT(--ISNA(MATCH(Sheet1!AC$4:$AC$157,B2:B7,0)),Sheet1!W4:W157)
It has managed to exclude the numbers (e.g. 70228, 70229, etc) but not the text strings (e.g. 012*) when summing it up

I need a formula that calculates the values of 5 seperate cells located in different places throughout my sheet. The value will either be numerical or display a text value (normally "RD"). If it displays text I do not want that value counted. So it literally just totals the number values.

I have a tiny problem with a bug in excel. You see, if you try to enter an empty range into a line graph you will error out. Well, I can't guarentee that the range will have at least one value in the macro so I was thinking that I would initalize a range varable (say ProductXRange) to an error message that reads: "ERROR: Selected Product Data is Not Available." Thus by guarenteeing me an entry no matter what. The question I have is because the string is not on a worksheet, how do I force it into the range varable (ProductXRange)? I.E. ProductXRange would in reality have one entry...the error massage.

I've got a workbook set up. One tab has a bunch of named ranges, let's say Tables 1-6. The second tab has vlookups for selected values from a sharepoint data pull (in order to parse through the sharepoint stuff, most of it is nonsense).
What I am trying to do is write a formula for cell E2 that:
-Step 1: Looks into whichever range the user specifies, 1-6 (probably using the indirect function).
-Step 2: Searches the specified range for text found in cell F2 (a string of text with values from one or more of the ranges 1-6)
-Step 3: Returns the text.

Attached is an example of what I'm looking for. Example: Column A has all the month names with a defined named range of crnt. D6 has a data validation display with a value of Nov 09, I need E6 to display Oct 09 automatically from the data in Column A. Basically I need cell E6 to always display the previous months text based off cell D6. I think the example sheet explains it better.

i have a worksheet filled with numbers in each cell (the worksheet might have a total of 150 rows and 150 columns of numbers).
the numbers typically range from 1-3 or 1-9 or 1-150.
however, there are also multiple 997, 998, and 999 numbers in the cells.
i need to identify the highest number in the worksheet that is not 997, 998, or 999.

User Form Basics - Populating Text Boxes. A few tweaks later and its reading the data just fine. Some of the specific form objects and range names have changed, but it's the same logic.
Anyway, this isn't just for display. I need to export the data back to the spreadsheet. So, I plugged this line into the event handler for the "Save & Exit" button on the sample form in the other thread:

I have some dynamic named ranges in sheet1, and in sheet2 I have data validation dropdown list which has the names of all the DNR's in it.
What I want it to do (in sheet3, no less) is for the user to be able to pick a named range from the dropdown list, and have a particular column in sheet3 then display that entire named range.
I have made a 'data' worksheet which is the source for the data validation in sheet2. Each item in the list identically matches the name of each of the named ranges. I was hoping to be able to use some form of =INDIRECT but alas, no such luck.
So it's almost like a copy and paste function I'm after, where:
If you pick "Schedule_From" out of the DD-list, then DNR 'Schedule_From' is what is pasted in Column B in Sheet3.
DON'T want to use a PivotTable.

I wrote some code that toggles bewtweeen the word "Yes" and the function clearcontents.
What it does not do, is if you click on cell A1 and change it's contents and you click on the same cell again it does nothing. You need to click on another cell say A2 before you can go and change A1 again.
My code is as follows:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Cells.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("Documents")) Is Nothing Then
On Error Resume Next
Application.EnableEvents = False
If IsEmpty(Target) Then
Target.Value = "Yes"
Else
Target.ClearContents
End If
Application.EnableEvents = True
On Error Goto 0
End If
End Sub

Let's say you have a named range, Rng1, which consists of cells A1 & A2. In vba how would you report back what, if any, named range the following cells resides:

here are multiple named ranges so using intersect is not feasible. Essentially, through code, I will be given a range and I need to determine if that range if part of a named range.

I'm trying to figure out a formula to use that will exclude negative numbers. I have two dates. I'm trying to find the difference between the two dates assuming there is a date in the first column. At times there will be a situation where the date in A1 is before the date in A2 and it returns a negative number. I'd like to return a blank if there is a blank cell in column A and also return a blank if the return number is a negative.
Example:
A1 = 1/15/2013 B1= 1/10/2013 C1(formula) =IF(A1="","",(A1-B1) C1 will then reflect 5
A2 = (cell is blank) B2= 1/18/2013 C2 (formula) =IF(A2="","",(A2-B2) C2 will then reflect a blank cell
A3 = 1/5/2013 B3 = 1/15/2013 C3 (formula) =IF(A3="","",(A3-B3) C3 will then reflect -10
I'm trying to figure out a formula that would also allow C3 to reflect a blank cell since the formula returns a negative.

I am using Excel 07 with Vista, and creating a spreadsheet in which users will be inputting a record into every row.
There is a row that requires a number to be entered, where some of the numbers will begin with 0 or 00 or even 0000. I want to make sure no-one incorrectly enters a letter, however with data validation set to whole numbers, it formats the cell to change an entry of "005667" into just "5667". There is no set length for the field.
The only way to have "005667" is the change the column to text, but then obviously that defeats the whole purpose!

I'm trying to set up a dashboard with a table and some formulas so that I can just copy a data export into one tab and have the table perform various Vlookups, charts, etc. The trouble I'm having is that some of my cells contain a mix of text, and I'm looking for specific text only. Example:
Address |Tags | Result
Email 1 |t1 t2 t3 t4 | Email 1
Email 2 |t1
Email 3 |t2 impact1 | Email 3
Email 4 |impact2
Email 5 |impact2 t2| Email 5
My data source has thousands of rows, and I'm looking at the Tags column. I want to use a Vlookup that gives me the email when [Tags] contains "t2", but my search is getting confused with "impact2". Is there a formula to search for "t2", but not get confused with "impact2"? I considered using =NOT, but I don't want to exclude cells just because they contain "impact2". If there was a formula for =IGNORE, that would be marvelous. My formulas are getting longer & longer, but they always seem to break in the end.
Basically I'm trying something like:
=IF(OR(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("* t2*",Table1[Tags])),SEARCH("t2*",Table1[Tags])),"Yes","No")
(Once I get the IF figured out, I'll use Vlookup to bring out the Address).

I'm trying to make my named ranges remember the values of the last active cells used within another named range. The purpose of this is to make my charts dynamically change dependant on two criteria selected. My spreadsheet currently updates itself as and when I change the active cell within a single named range, dynamically changing the chart data by using Lookup based on the active cells value. However I want to get away from having several charts showing, I would like to have a single chart which dynamically changes based on a second selection. So the first selection is for a department (Facility) which changes the chart data relevant to that department, the second selection is to dynamically change the chart shown for the pre selected department.
Picture2.jpg
Using the following code when updating just one criteria with several charts
VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
If Not Application.Intersect(ActiveCell, [MeasureType]) Is Nothing Then
[valMeasurePicked] = ActiveCell.Value [code].....
which works fine but I'm not sure how to add a second selection criteria because my code uses Activecell. I thought that the VBA needed to set the last used value of a range as a variable and therefore allow the second criteria to be selected but am not sure how to put it into practice.

Is there a way to do a Formula (SUM) but exclude cells with invalid values? I would like to add up all values in attached spreadsheet for cells A14 to A28 and again for A49 to A63, as well as get an average C-14 to 28 and again for C49-63.
As some of the cells contain text rather than numbers, the formula doesn't work. how to exclude these cells?

having the formula exclude counting text in cells.
=IFERROR(SUMPRODUCT(--(INDIRECT("'"&TEXT(B$2,"mm-dd-yy")&"'!A4:A44")=Tracking!$A3)*(INDIRECT("'"&TEXT(B$2,"mm-dd-yy")&"'!D4:J44")>8)),"")
I would like it to only count numeric values over 8.0. Currently if I have text in a cell such as "PTO" it returns as a added value.

I've setup a macro button to sort some stockpile items from A-Z so entering quantity on hand can be done more easily. Each cell is a drop-down selection so at various times, there can be different stockpile items in the list, thus why, I setup a macro to quickly sort the list.
However, I've got some text (Select Stockpile Item) that I wish not to be included in the A-Z sort as this might put items starting with T or later at the end of the sort.
Sub SortMySpecialStockpileA2Z()
If MsgBox("Are you sure?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion) = vbNo Then
Exit Sub
Else
Range("K4:L110").Select
ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("MyStockpile").Sort.SortFields.Clear
ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("MyStockpile").Sort.SortFields.Add Key:=Range("K4") _

Merge two columns into one list in excel
I would like to combine List1 and List2 into a 3rd named range called List3. I was wondering if this were possible without using any additional cells/columns (i.e. I don't want to use Column C like in the example shown in the link above).
Here's the formula from the example:
Code:
=IFERROR(INDEX(List1,ROWS(C1:$C$1)),IFERROR(INDEX(List2,ROWS(C1:$C$1)-ROWS(List1)),""))
I've played around with it, but could not come with any that worked.

Excel 2010, I have the following list (showing part of it):
Name
T-Shirt Sizes
Nathan
S
[Code]....
The aim of the list is to see what Sizes each and every person needs and then count how many T-Shirts are required for that particular size. The list is over a 100 entries long so counting it manually isn't really an option as it's time consuming as well as errors might arise.
Thus, I've been trying to use the IF statement with the following logic but to as no avail
IF Size in Column is XS
Add 1 to a particular Cell
IF Size in Colum is S
Add 1 to a particular Different Cell
and so on for the other sizes...kind of like a counter for a for-do-loop.

I have read post re this question but have not been able to answer my problem. I get the error message 'Application defined or object defined error' when running the code below. I should indicate the range counter currently indicated about 6,200 rows that this code will work on and the individual range names in the list of 6,200 rows are spread over at least 20 worksheets.
The code appears to be running but after some time it stops on the line of code 'Range(Cells(i, 1).Value) = Cells(i, 2)'.
Sub PopulateWithImportData()
Dim counter As Integer
counter = Sheets("Imported Data").Range("Counter")
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
Worksheets("imported data").Select
Range("a1").Select
i = 1
Do Until i = counter
Range(Cells(i, 1).Value) = Cells(i, 2)
i = i + 1

I need method, using a button, that looks at a cell--say EO2, for example--, looks back on a master worksheet at a specified row and range for a match, then looks at the information from a specified range below the matching cell (The information in this column will either be blank or have an "X" in the cell), and then those rows that do not have an "X" will be hidden in the corresponding rows in the working worksheet. Therefore, if at any time the value in "EO2" ever changes, then it will automatically find a new match and repopulate and hide information as before. About 130 columns will have its own button so that a "query" can be made that depends on the information in a particular cell in that column.
The master worksheet now has matrix of 287 rows and 58 columns. Each row is for an operating procedure and each column shows a job code. An "X" in a coordinate cell for a column/row shows whether that job code is responsible for knowing that operating procedure. So, on the working sheet, an employee's primary job code is given underneath his or her name. When the button is pushed, all the operating procedures not required for a given person will be hidden and only the required ones will remain visible--grouped, if you will. Qualification dates will be easier to see now that the information is consolidated. Whenever someone transfers to a new position, a new code will be inputed on the working sheet. When the button is pushed, a new grouping will result. Any operating instructions that overlap will still have qualification dates, so that information will not need to be transcribed.

I am trying to calculate some averages. What I have is 3 columns of data in A, B, C, also the "tasks" in A are in named ranges ex: "Award Contract" is a named range - "Task_Award" and "Confirm Updates" is a named range - "Task_Updates". I've attached a sample excel sheet.
I'd like to be able to create a macro to evaluate column A, and for every row in range "Task_Award", give me the average of the corresponding cells in column C and put it in the same range of cells in column B , then, for every row in "Task_Confirm" then give me the average of the same range of cells in column C and place the result in the same range of cells in column B. This is my very first post so I hope I am doing this correctly. I have 77 of these task ranges to evaluate and it will take a long time to do it manually. I'm thinking of a loop function.
