Fill Down Cells With Formula
Nov 5, 2009I have this formula in the cell

View 4 RepliesI am trying to create a nice equation that will look in row 35 for the highest value and then return the value that is 33 rows up and 1 column to the left. See attachment of for more details.
Basically, I need a formula to fill in cells B38:B41 (detail included in Excel doc attached).
Is there away to count cells with 1 or more different fill colors in a column?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got the following loop that is very slow. The main way (I think) to speed it up is to avoid looking at all the 65000 cells. The columns used in the calculations have data varying from a few hundred cells up to (rarely) dozens of thousands. I assume it would be better if I could replace the 65500 with something indicating the "end" of the data in the column. Also, is there another way to do this process without using a loop?
I am trying to fill in a number of rows with array formula's in the adjucent cells. I use the loop because the number of rows depends on a selection of another parameter which sets the row number before calling the loop.
I am looking for a formula that I can use in the lower table to fill in the missing County cells, based on the values in the Town/Zip columns on the top table (I apoligize for the crudeness):
CountyTownZipAbleTownA00000AbleTownB00001AbleTownC00002BravoTownD00003BravoTownE00004CountyTownZipMemberTownD00003BlackTownC00002FrankTownA00000GreeneTownB00001JonesTownA00000SmithTownC00006ThomasTownE00004White
This would consist of hundreds of Zips and Towns and this is just an abbreviated mock up.
I have a formula in cell A1 that I need to drag downwards so that it fills cells A2 to A10. That formula is picking up the figures located in another sheet but the figures on that sheet are arranged horizontally (A1 to J1). Is there a formula to perform this action? I've tried playing around with the $ sign in my formulas but it does not work.

Here is what I am trying to do:
in the column, I am holding ctrl button to select every 10th cell down the sheet. I need to enter a date in every selected cell that is exactly 7 days apart, i.e., 11/7/08 then 11/14/08 then 11/21/08, etc.... but no other dates or data.
I have tried to figure out a way to do this other than manually, but am confounded.
Is there some easy way to fill out column B referencing column A, but only incrementing by 1 row in A every 2 cells in B?
Example:
Column A:
A1 = 1
A2 = 2
A3 = 3
etc...
Column B (I would like to fill this, referencing column A):
B1 = A1
B2 empty
B3 = A2
B4 empty
B5 = A3
etc
I am using Excel 2010 and basically i am trying to fill a range of cell with a green color if any value was enter in a specific cells. Example: I would like to fill range: A10:c13 with a green color (regardless of the cells content in this range) if a value was entered in cell C10 or C11 or C12 or C13.
I've tried conditional formatting but unfortunately I'll have to apply formatting for every cell and for a range of over hundred cells is not efficient.
I would like a macro that when run, finds empty cells in a column within the used range and fills them with the same formula in the other cells in the same column but relative to the row.
I have a basic understanding of VBA so if someone can set me on the right track i'll have a go myself as i appreciate this would take a while to write out from scratch.
1. I want to highlight cells on a form so that a user knows which cells to fill out.
2. When they print the form I do not want the cell shading to print.
how can I automatically fill cells with certain colors based on the value of the cell. (i.e. I want to search an entire workbook and fill cells with values between 80 and 99 green, 60 to 79 yellow and 0 to 59 red.)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am working on a spreadsheet for a shoe company. I have separate columns for the size, model, color, and item number of a shoe. I get everything except for the item number from a written document; I then have to find the item number for the shoe from another excell document called the Master List.
I was hoping there would be a way to have Excell auto-fill the item number for me. For example, if a shoe is a Red, Athens (the shoe model),size 12, its item number (which can be a pain to find) listed in the row of the Master List is aaabbb. So I want to just enter in the size, color and model number, and have Excell find the item number for me, and fill it in.
I have enclosed an example. Sheet 1 is the sheet I would be working on. Sheet 2 is a portion of the Item master list, which is actually 50k lines.
Can anyone supply a formula which can be filled down column J of s/s. The formula should look at column H and find those cells where the content of the cell is lower than the one above it. I supply, in the enclosed attachment, three examples and have marked with an X any qualifying cells in adjacent column I. The formula needs to incorporate cells above and below so as to produce a running average whereby no above cell is higher than any below.

=SUM(INDIRECT("F$2:F"&ROW()-6))*0.8
=SUM(INDIRECT("F$2:F"&ROW()-8))*0.8
=SUM(INDIRECT("F$2:F"&ROW()-10))*0.8
In the attachment, Column A includes year with indefinite empty space between years. In column B, I want to use one formula fill in the results as shown.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI created a database and made one small mistake doing it. The database is infinite amount of rows down and my formula needs to be corrected as such. In the current cells: (C1:C1000) i have the formulas referencing cells $B1, but i need it to reference $B$1. In C2 I need it to reference $B$2, C3 $B$3 and so on. If I autofill, it obviously just keeps the following cells at $B$1 and i can't keep the dollar bill sign.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a Macro to fill in a formula in each row where there is a value. So if there is a value in row 1 Column A then place this formula into Column B and continue down the sheet untill there is not a value in Column A.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a report which has several tabs of data input which is automated.
There are then several columns of formula which I manually fill down at the minute, is they an easy piece of code to automate this?
The attached example may help, on the tab data source I want to automate the copying down of the formulas in columns D&E.
Can this to be automated by the button on the tab front page?
i have attempted may be totally in the wrong direction. I have a worksheet where column A should hold the same value for many Rows of information, but instead only prints once in the first row of that section. The # of rows in each section vary; sort of like this - where ... is a blank cell:
A 1
... 2
... 3
... 4
B 1
... 2
... 3
I would like to write a macro that loops through Column A and replaces empty cells with the most recent value. When i run the following code it puts the value in the blank cell, but fails to loop to the next.
i typically have a difficult time figuring out how to reference cells correctly depending on the situation. anyways what i have is a formula in a cell and i want to fill in the next four cells to the right.
the help file gives:
Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:M1").FillRight
I have a situation where I am trying to copy to blank cells. All the data is in Column A. In Column A there are Account numbers that are attached to dates in Column B and Transaction Amounts in Columns C & D.
If there are multiple dates with transactions, then Column A does not repeat, but is blank until the next Account number. I am trying to have the Account number fill in the blank cells until the next Account number. I have a macro that runs and picks up the Account number and then copies the data in Columns B - D. However, the blank cells are messing up the macro.
I have an excel spreadsheet like the one attached. My problem is column A has a ton of blank cells. Wht I'm trying to do in Column A is write a formula that fills in the blank cells with the number of the last previous filled in cell. For example the first number is .25 I want to fill in the blank spaces below it with .25 all the way until it reaches a different number which in this case is .219.
Once it reaches .219 I want it then to fill in the blank spaces below it with .219 until it reaches a different number. So basically I'm looking for a formula to fill this in on its own instead of having to drag the cells over and over again manually.
In the excel spreadsheet attached I have in Column D the end result I wish to accomplish.

I am working on a spreadsheet and I need values from Sheet1!a2, a7, a12, a17 etc...
I want to fill in the formula ='Sheet1'!a2 etc, to fill column A in sheet2!
When I highlight and drop down to fill excel fills the column in increments of five like i need but doesn't start on the right one. Instead it fills the formula as ='Sheet1'!a6, (For cel A1) and ='Sheet1'!a11, (for cell A2) and so on.
I read in a book that if you enter a formula in a cell, like cell A1 contains
=rand() for instance, that if you select Go on the menu tab, and then enter the final destination cell or range (ex: A1,A200), then hit ctrl+Enter simultaneously, it will fill the formula down to that cell. I can get it to select the range, by hitting Shift+Enter, but not copy down the formula using Ctrl+Enter, or Ctrl+Shift+Enter. I am using excel 03, XP. It only returns blank values for the range.
I need a macro that will insert this formula: =Trim(IF(B3="","",MID(B3&", "&B3,FIND(" ",B3)+1,LEN(B3)+1))) into column C starting on row three through the end of the spreadsheet information.
I typed this incorrectly when I first posted. I need it to fill down into only column C not the end of the spreadsheet.
I am creating a register of first aid kits on my site. What I want to do is have a summary as the first worksheet, and then have contents, and individual expiry dates for each kit on seperate kits. Is there a way to autofill, or auto complete, a different sheet name in formulas?
Ie.
='Kit 1'!$B$27
='Kit 2'!$B$27
='Kit 3'!$B$27
...
='Kit 44'!$B$27
I am trying to add the following code to fill in a certain range only if the range is blank. I can get it to fill in with the formula but it will still enter over if the cell already contains information.
Code:
Sub YTD()
Dim isempty As Boolean
isempty = True
For Each cell In Sheets("YTD%").Range("December").Cells
If cell.Value! = "" Then isempty = False
[Code] .......
I have a formula that is averaging seven (one week) consecutive cells, I want to Copy/Fill the formula down the worksheet for the entire year. Is there a way to use the fill handle to drag down and make the formulas use the next seven colums?
I have removed the $ from the row numbers in the original formula, but when I use the fill handle it fills like this:
=average(B2:B8)
=average(B3:B9)
I would like it to fill like this:
=average(B2:B8)
=average(B9:B15)
I would like to auto fill the present date if another cell of the same row is typed in and then lock that cell with the date.
For example. If someone types in cell A2 then I would like to auto fill D2 with the date 11/01/2007 and lock it.
If someone tomorrow types in cell A3 then the date would once again be autofilled in D3 to 11/02/2007 while D2 would still display 11/01/2007.
