I'm trying to find vehicle make and model in a cell containing a lot of text and then display that in the formula cell. For example if A1 is a paragraph that contains somewhere within it "Ford" & "Ranger". I want B1 to display "Ford" and C1 to display "Ranger". I have a list of vehicles makes (column A) and models (column B) on a seperate sheet.

I am looking to find the "age" or "elapsed days" of an ID from when they created an account to when they stopped. This might be very complex and if there's not a way to calculate the Elapsed days (even though that's what I prefer), perhaps there is some formula that can return a value like a "1" or "True" or something that lets me know the statement is true.

Formula 1: If the ID in column 2 are the same, and if there is a value in column 3 (Create) and a value in Column 4 (Suspend) AND there is no value in Column 5 (Stopped), then subtract the dates in column 1 for Create and Suspend. My manual calculation result is in the column called "Elapsed Days (Create to Suspend but NO Stopped)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a client list in a table in my excel sheet. I currently enter the clients in a sheet that looks similar to a form. After the clients info is in this Form I have a button with a macro to copy the client info into a table on another sheet. This works perfectly.
Now I have another form that will retrieve the customers info in a click of a button in order to make changes to the client. Ei:I now have a second phone number and I want to update that client's info. What I want to do from here is take the info in Cell B2 (clients full Name), Do a vLookup in the "Saved Clients Table" in a Range within my table range. (Range: Saved Clients and the client's full name is in $A:$A and called "Clients Full Name" and once that name is found I need to select the cell in column C and the corresponding row.
This will allow me to copy the info in my form, Paste it in Transpose to the cell that is selected. (I already have that code)

How do I use an Excel formula to find which (if any) multiple sets, each of up to 50 words, exist in a series of rows of a spreadsheet - if set A has one or more words found in a searched cell.
A positive result will return a specific value in the designated result cell. If none of the words in Set A is found in the searched cell, the formulae will repeat the test for the words in Set B, and so on.
After all 50 sets of words have been tested, the formula will move to the next cell in the searched column.
New words will be added to the sets of words continually as required.
Multiple words within sets are included in double quotes. Within each set of words there will be some n-tuples of words (i.e. 24 adjacent words) that contain one or more of the words in the set, but for which the formula will be required to return a negative result. Example: Set A = word 1, word2, word 3, "word1 word2 word3". (The words within a set could also be each entered in separate columns, as opposed to all included in a single cell.) The single column of text to be searched is about 10,000 rows.
I am wanting to use the above in a spreadsheet that contains data downloaded from a series of bank accounts to automatically allocate items of expenditure to one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.
The formula will search the description field to find words that are used in the in the downloaded files from the various accounts to describe each transaction.
If a word describing travel expenditure (e.g. hotel, "holiday inn" but not "holiday travel") is found in the description of an expenditure item - the item cost will be allocated to the TRAVEL EXPENDITURE column, which is one of 20 or so different categories of expenditure.
Happy to consider a different solution if the task can be done better a different way.
Tried using a combination of INDEX/SEARCH/IF in Excel, but was not able to get a correct result. PS I am using Excel 2011 for Mac - which does not allow macros, so the solution needs to be entirely formula based.

(2) what the first number (which could contain 1-4 digits) contained in the text string is?
I have been given a huge membership list. The field for the CITY also as the two letter state abbreviation (e.g., "Fremont, CA" instead of just "Fremont".). I want to be able to have the "CA" or "WA" or "NV" (etc) from the city field appear in a new STATE field. I successfully use the below statement to do this with the "CA" but I want a statement that will search for multiple strings (the other states).
Here is what works now: =IF(FIND(" CA",F2),"CA"). But I want to be able to add other state abbreviations to this.
I try to write the function that gets some "ref" and returns appropriate item.
For example: if I give to function "C3", it returns "AAA"
if I give to function "R18", it returns "BBB" (cause it between R15 to R26)
if I give to function "R9", it returns "BBB" also.

These strings are inside the cell (as in it is not the only value in the cell) and then copy the entire cell over to another column, then delete the two cells to the right of the originally found cell.
Heres an example of what I want to:
There are four columns, the first has a name with both the first and last (amanda white)the second just the first name (amanda), the third just the last name(white), and the forth an organization name. if the first column contains an organzation name, it has to clear out the first name and last name columns, and copy the name column to the organization column.

I have a list of organization keywords to search the first column (e.g. enterprise, variety, management, pizza). I want it to recongnise the "pizza", copy that entire cell over to the organization column and delete the first name and last name for that row.I've been trying to modify a code like this but i can't seem to make anything work.

I am having a hard time creating a code that would search the exact string in a cell. See sample scenario below.
1. I have a string "hello" to be searched.
2. I will search the whole string in each cell in a previously declared range.
3. If in a cell i found "kdhlsk hellodsiewjls", although "hello" string is there,
the code should still return 0.
4. But if in a cell, i found "kjdsfel ljsdlkue hello luoeww", then the code should return 1.
I have already created a code, but it will always return 1 in step#3.
Im new to Macros. Im trying to find a string of text assign that to be the top of the data and then find a different string and assign that to be the bottom of the data. Then run a loop whilst inside that data range. Am i going about it the right way? Attached is a sample data file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI receive data from different sources and one column is usually in upper case, but I prefer to use proper (title) case. The problem is that the data frequently contains text strings that should remain in upper case or should combine upper and lower case letters. Examples follow:
Data received:
COROLLA AE90, AE92
COROLLA SX, GTI
Data should look like:
Corolla AE90, AE92
Corolla SX, GTi
Note that 'GTi' is upper case 'GT' and lower case 'i'.
I've set up a spreadsheet 'CaseConverter.xls' as a look-up, with a range ('SpecialCase' - A2:A65536) featuring names, codes and acronyms represented correctly. Is it possible to use a macro to run Excel's global replace to search for upper case strings in one spreadsheet and replace with the correct strings from the other spreadsheet? The macro would have to loop through the entire 'SpecialCase' range and look in the supplied spreadsheet for versions of the data in the special case range without being case-specific. The supplied spreadsheet (see attached for example data) is called 'Application.xls'. Column B is what I'm trying to reach.

I need to extract the data within the brackets allowing for additional spaces for use in a second query which will search for each individual line item in turn.
For some reason the query does not like searching for the raw data in it's current format so I'm trying to extract the key information for searching instead.
I can do it in excel by:

I have tried doing this cleverly in VBA and failed and then ended up trying to enter this code in the cells within the VBA code and do it that way but I'm having difficulty in doing this also.
I am very comfortable with VBA but I usually avoid using formulas if at all possible (unfortunately, I have, formulas are unavoidable (by request).. so formulas it is)
I will try to explain
Column A is a list of dates (ever expanding)
Column B is a list of names ( multiple entries of various names but aligned with various dates)
Column H is a list of names (each possible name which can appear in column B, no duplicates)
Cell I1 = A Date
Cell J1 = A Date
(forming a date range)
Basically what I need to do is:
= COUNTIF(B:B,H2) - but only count it if it is withing the date range (>=I1 & <=J1)

I have the following issue. I have a list of strings. Each string contains certain characters that are exactly the same for all strings, some characters are different making the string longer (in some cases). What I need to do is extract some combination of characters from each string. The strings look like this:
AB & CDE & FG & I mmmm yyyy.HIJK
AB & CDE & FG & II mmmm yyyy.HIJK
The part "AB & CDE & FG & " (incl. spaces) is the same for each string. The next part contains a roman count from I to VII, causing the length of each string to vary. The "mmmm" part contains the current month spelled in full e.g. December. This part differs as well, for each string. The "yyyy" part contains the year in four digits, e.g. 2007. The part after the dot is the same for each string again.
What I need to do:
- is to extract the month and assign it to a new string
- extract the year and assign it to a new string
- extract the roman number, translate it to a normal number (II -> 2) and assign to a string (or integer).
I'm trying to build a formula that counts the amount of cells within a range that contain multiple strings of text within the same cell. I only know how to build a formula that snags cells that contain 1 but not 2 different ones within the same cell. For example: I want to count cells if they have the word BALL and STICK somewhere in the cell....see three cell examples below

How would I go about counting the number of times TA shows within strings of text in a range within a sheet. Example: TA,MH in cell A2, CB,TA in cell C40, ES,TA in cell Q19. Result would be 3. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a worksheet with several columns. I need a formula to search column D only and each time a specific location is identified to replace that location with alternate text. Example (ORIGNAL TEXT):

I need to search that listing and each time the word BIRD is mentioned have it replaced with FEATHERS and each time DOG is listed have it replaced with TAILS Final result would look like:
FEATHERS
FISH
TAILS
BAT
BUG
All other text should stay the same and replacement text should appear in the cell of the text it is replacing. This is a sheet used by multiple people several times a day and so the Find/Replace option really won't work.
Have working on this for at least 6 months and it just isn't going to happen for me. I thought I could use a Conditional format, but that is producing no results either.
I have two sheets. First contains Department # 0002549, and the other one contains 5 more digits(#02001 0002549). I will need to find the exact match for the first sheet to contain all 12 digits. THey are all in different order, so I probably have to match them first then add whatever the first 5 digits number. How should I tackle this issue? I was thinking to use vlookup but how could you use vlook up if only last 7 digit matches and add addtional digits to exisiting number?

I receive a large text file each month from a vendor, This file contains account numbers, account descriptions and costs associated with the previous months period. There are 5 separate business units included in this report. I am looking for a way to translate the account numbers pprovided by the vendor to fit with in the account numbers we use. A Vlookup will work by creating a Map that translates their numbers to match ours, but this would need to be copied in monthly and as there are 15k rows or more it will likely take a while to process. I am wondering if others have attempted this and have advise as to what works best.
My plan was to create an Excel file that reflects the account numbers provided with our account numbers and then use a VLookup to match the data received with this master file as it were. ( So I would have a file called AccountMap which contains 4 columns, Cols A & B is the info provided by the vendor and Cols C & D are our codes and descriptions ). Then when the data arrives I would enter my vLookup and go from there.
Presently the steps are:
Open Vendor Text File in Excel
Copy a Business Unit and related Data to new WorkSheet
Insert Vlookup to map the vendor accounts to our accounting system format
Rearrange the data to meet our import requirements
Export the modified range as a Text file
Import into Accounting system
I tried to writer my code myself but I have a long way to go. Here is what I must do for my case:

I have a table that contains various aspects of information about customer cases, and I want to replicate a user 'picking up' the case by a simple press of a button.
Users have access to only one Country, so I want to be able to search a particular column for the lowest value, but check that the Country for that row matches the user's access. If it doesn't, I then want to find the next lowest value in the column, and this is what's perplexing me??? As mentioned, I want to click a button to trigger this, and therefore want to use VBA code.

where sProduct contains values such as SW , CO. Now, when I use rFound to query SW, it finde me this first occuring SW. I have this inside a for loop. When it goes and queries again, it should get me the next occuring SW, not the first SW that it searched for me.
I have a piece of code used to find a matching date in a column and then unhide that column. Code works because there was only one date on the sheet other than the one's I was trying to find. I now have to store additional dates in the sheet and this is disrupting the search as it stops (as it should upon finding a match). I would like to see if there was a way to modify it so that it will look for the match in specific columns i.e. Specifically the dates are located in AX1:IX1. Here is the code

I manage to use formula find for 1 text in 1 statement, but in confuse how to get another text found if i have "8 text" to find. Generally, there will only be "1 text" for each statement.
Maybe in 1 statement there have only "IC" or "Staff Tagging" or Name" or "Product" or etc till 8.
