Extract Specific Numbers From Text Strings
Need to write a Macro to only extract numbers from text, characters and numbers fields. I would like the numbers to be extracted in column B, C & D. I am only interested in numbers that begins with 200's, 800's and 4500's. see the attached file.

Extract Numbers With Specific Text From Right Or Left
i use this code to get the value from the cell that contains "Ink"., and i got the codes from reading other problems:
like this in a1 -> Ink 253.00
and totally working! but the problem is if the word "ink" in the left of the value --> 253.00 ink and the result is #NA, is there any way that i can get the value whether the word Ink is in the left side or right side of the value?
also bothered why is it if the word is not "ink" in the cell and return -> #value since i put ("") in the last part of If function(value if false)?
Extract Numbers From Alphanumeric Strings
I have this formula that extracts numbers from alphanumeric strings.
However this extracts only the 1st instance of the numbers
In a string like 123avfbsdf4556.. it'll extract only 123.
My questions are the following:
1. Is there a way that i could get the result as 1234556
2. A way which refers to a cell where I put in a number and it'll extract those many number instances. In the above example, if I put the number as 1, it'll extract 123. If I put the number as 2, it'll extract 4556 and so on.
I guess this would require some modifications to the Match function so that it does not look at only the 1st instance.
Extract Multiple Text Strings From A Long Text String
An original text string entry appearing in an Excel cell would be:
"N7C Neuroprotective J5Z Antiviral, other M2Z Antiarthritic, other J5A Antiviral, anti-HIV"
I need to extract N7C, J5Z, M2Z and J5A from this string and list these alphanumeric values in separate cells adjacent to the original text string. The challenge is that these alphanumeric references may appear in different positions within the original string with no fixed value e.g. a "," separating them. The alphanumeric references may also be 3 or 4 characters in length and there may be different numbers of alphanumeric references in the original string.
Another example would be (very different from the first):
"T2Z Recombinant, other K5B Radio-chemoprotective J3Z Antibacterial, other D3A Vulnerary A10C Symptomatic antidiabetic K6Z Anticancer, other R8A Antiasthma B6A Septic shock treatment I1Z Immunostimulant, other S1Z Ophthalmological R8B Antiallergic, non-asthma M1A1 Anti-inflammatory"
You can see that in this further example "A10C" & "M1A1" are 4 character alphanumeric strings wheras the others feature 3 characters.
Extract Text Strings Within Brackets From Range
I have a column of data in the following format:
Hardware (somethingsmall) otherinfo
Hardware ( somethingdisplaced)
Blackbox item (somethingelse) other info
I need to extract the data within the brackets allowing for additional spaces for use in a second query which will search for each individual line item in turn.
For some reason the query does not like searching for the raw data in it's current format so I'm trying to extract the key information for searching instead.
I can do it in excel by:
(Assuming data is in cell V36)
'in colum x
'in column y
'in column z
in column aa
=IF(LEFT(Z36,1)=" ", MID(Z36,2,20),Z36)
I have tried doing this cleverly in VBA and failed and then ended up trying to enter this code in the cells within the VBA code and do it that way but I'm having difficulty in doing this also.
Extract Strings From Range Of Variable Length Text
I have the following issue. I have a list of strings. Each string contains certain characters that are exactly the same for all strings, some characters are different making the string longer (in some cases). What I need to do is extract some combination of characters from each string. The strings look like this:
AB & CDE & FG & I mmmm yyyy.HIJK
AB & CDE & FG & II mmmm yyyy.HIJK
The part "AB & CDE & FG & " (incl. spaces) is the same for each string. The next part contains a roman count from I to VII, causing the length of each string to vary. The "mmmm" part contains the current month spelled in full e.g. December. This part differs as well, for each string. The "yyyy" part contains the year in four digits, e.g. 2007. The part after the dot is the same for each string again.
What I need to do:
- is to extract the month and assign it to a new string
- extract the year and assign it to a new string
- extract the roman number, translate it to a normal number (II -> 2) and assign to a string (or integer).
Find Numbers In Text Strings
I have several cells in a column that look something like this:
Cell A1: abc 1234 def ghi
Cell A2: xxxx aa b 245 qqqqq
Cell A3: abcdefg hij kl mnopqr s
Is there an excel formula or combination of formulas I can use to identify:
(1) whether any given text string (such as those above) include numbers, and
(2) what the first number (which could contain 1-4 digits) contained in the text string is?
Delete All Numbers Like: #####-## From Text Strings In Cells
I need to remove multiple instances of pages numbers from a 2000 character text string I have dumped into a cell. The spacing is not equal between the page numbers but they always take the form |#####-##| i.e. bar delimited 5 digit-2 digit. I tried SUBSTITUTE but it will not accept wildcards. I was thinking of looping through a SEARCH. The numbers are ordered ie |00001-01| to |00001-25| then |00002-01| etc, stopping at 25. This might lend to looping but I couldn't wrap my head around the VBA to accomplish that. A sample of the text
"|00006-01| (Defendants' Exhibit Nos. 1,2 marked for |00006-02| Identification.) |00006-03| BY MR. JOHNSON: |00006-04| Q. Doctor, I am handing you Exhibits 1 and 2. |00006-05| Exhibit 2, is that the one that you brought with you, |00006-06| the deposition notice of today? |00006-07| A. I believe so, yes." Auto Merged Post Until 24 Hrs Passes;I should have said this before but this is for use on Excel 2003 WinXP.
How To Extract Specific Text From A Worksheet
I have a spreadsheet which is an extract from another application's DB, and it's just ugly in Excel. No nice neat columns etc. Data from some tables of the other application were just dumped into cells. Some of the data I need is scattered about the worksheet in various cells. There are no seperators that are common, no common length of text strings I could use to pull every X word etc.
The one common thread I am working with here, is the the data I need to extract ALL begins with the first 4 letters, and containers a total of 8 characters. For example:
A3 - The dogs collar had the name ABCD1234 on it
J9 - Today I found a dog collar at the store, and it read ABCD2345
c5 - It says ABCD3456
I'm trying to basically see if there is a way/function within excel that can go through all of the cells and extract anything that says ABCD? (and the 4 wildcards after it)
The Find all function finds them all, but trying to just extract the data ABCD? info.
Extract Text After Specific Keyword
I have a sheet with only one colomn, and about 200 rows, containing alot of 'garbage'.
Each few rows, I have a keyword ("REFDES=") and after this keyword I have a value ("R3254"). I need to extract only these values and to put them in one row, few colomns.
For example, if the sheet looks like this: ......
Extract Specific Text From A Text File
I had VBA run a third-party program ("HYD") using data listed in my spreadsheet. HYD produces a textfile and I want to extract a number from that log (line 58, columns 6-10 to be exact).
I started with
Open "C:TempHYDLOG.TXT" For Input As #1
but I don't know how to have it skip down to line 58 or which function to use to extract the number I want. I've read through tons of help files and forums but none of them treat anything as simple as scrolling down to specific lines.
The entire subroutine up to that point is as follows: ....
Extract Data From A Specific Location In A Text File
I have been trying to work this out by looking at other posts (mostly concerning Binary Access) but can't figure it! The source text files I am using can vary in length from 4,000 characters to well over 100,000 characters. However the data I am looking for always starts 40 characters from the end of the file and is 10 characters long! I need my macro to pick out this data and store it as a string (so it can be added to an array and exported to a worksheet later)
Extract AndParse Out Specific Data From Multiple Text Files
I have a few hundred data/text files to analyze, some a few thousand lines deep. I would like to grab 5, just 5 numbers describing voltage levels. I know the preceding text for each of these in the cell and the following text as well. I just need to delete everything else and keep these 5 values in a column using a script or a macro, and do so for all these files in a specified folder.
This would be 3 weeks of work and the analysis needs to be done ASAP for my research.

Extract Numbers From Text Into A Matrix
I have a large number of text strings representing chemical formulas. They include letters for the element names and numbers for the number of atoms of each type.
The element name has either one or 2 letters (one capital, one small), if there is no number and no small letter after the capital letter that means that there is only one atom of this sort(like in C18H35NO3 - there is one N atom). If the element is not listed in the text string it means that it is not found in that particular formula (i.e. the numerical value is 0). Is there any function that could help converting such a vector (say A1:A3) into a matrix that will have the following form:
C H N O S Na
18 35 1 3 0 0
4 7 0 0 1 0
11 16 0 2 0 1
Extract Numbers From Specified Place In Text String
I have got cell A1 containing this text string:
=IF(SUM('SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC)=0,SUMPRODUCT('SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC,
'SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC,'SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC),
SUMPRODUCT('SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC,'SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC,
'SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC,'SL-001 - AT-001-001'!RC:RC))
*'SL-001 - AT-001-001'!R992C*R3C9
and I would like a macro that will extract the numbers between each instance of the letters R and C , i.e. 852, 856, 826 etc etc. in cells A2, A3, A4 respectively.
Extract Date From Cell With Other Strings
i have data in column A and i want extract to column B only the date from this data. Date start on diferent position.
1 text text 10.10.1998 text
4 10.12.2005 text text
i want this result
i try solution from other thread, but it doesnt works for me.
Extracting Numbers From Alphanumeric Strings (strip Numbers?)
I import data from another program in order to evaluate it. Unfortunately, one of the fields I need contains copyright data, however, it has been very inconsistently entered into the database. For example, sometimes the data appears "c1999." or "-1999" or "" or "" or even "19?" and also sometimes "1999, 1990" and many other variations on that. I discovered the link in the excel help file about extracting numbers from alphanumeric strings, but my situation is still too variable for it to apply; that file didn't take into account that alphanumeric strings don't always lump numbers and letters together. I was able to correct a few things, but my command of excel isn't knowledgeable enough to really come up with something effective.
Some ideas I had that I don't know how to implement: is there a way to strip non-numerical characters from an alphanumeric string? (I've been doing some find/replaces to get rid of some of it, but that is obviously not very efficient when I have to repeat this process daily.) Perhaps then I could just detect the first 4 numbers of the string somehow. However, that doesn't solve the problem of when a wild card is used as in "199?" or "20?" etc.
Bottom line, I just need to grab the first four numbers that appear in the string (but NOT additional numbers that occur after a wild card or a space if the year was not completed in 4 numbers; in that case I'd just be happy with a null value).
I've been doing this with a formula so far. My only experience with macros has been in simply recording them, not actually writing them, but I'll give anything a try.
Finding Specific Strings
I have a combination of letters and numbers in a column. For example.
I need a formula to tell whether they begin with two letters and have a certain number of numbers then end in letters. Or have letters in the middle. Sorry Im so vague, I just need a start in the right direction. Ideally combined with an IF statement.
In english (If two letters afetr nine numbers then yes)
Selecting Specific Strings From A Cell
I'm using Excel 2003 and I have a small problem using text functions. My problem is that in column 'A' I have a name and their year next to it between brackets, like so: Wright Jeffrey (1PBSO)
Now what I have to do, is make two new columns where I extract the surname (Wright) to one columns and the first name in another column (Jeffrey), the "(1PBSO)" doesn't have to go anywhere. Now I wouldn't have a problem with this normally but in the list I have names like 'Van Tongerloo Johan' where VAN TONGERLOO is the surname and JOHAN is the first name. For the first name (Wright Jeffrey (1PBSO)) I just used the LEFT function and then searched for the first space in the string but that doesn't work in the second example anymore.
Combining Strings Of Numbers And Ordering Them
I am trying to come up with a formula which would combine two groups of numbers, put them in numberial order and remove duplicate numbers:
3 6 10 22
1 3 5 9 10 13 19
The above two groups of numbers are in separate cells in two different rows.
the result would also be in a different row: 1 3 5 6 9 10 13 19 22
Extracting Strings Of Text From Columns Of Data(text)
What I have is a column of data(text) which contains amongst all the text three strings of text in ever cell in the column which I require copying into three adjoining cells
The data I require is :-
(a) The persons name which is always after the word ‘Requester’ e.g. Requester Steve Robinson
(b) Their office location which is directly after the persons name and is in brackets e.g. (Newcastle User)
(c) The Approving persons name which is preceded by ‘Approved by’ e.g. Approved by Christine Hunting
See examples 1 & 2 below
CR0/CRZ3651 Requestor Steve Robinson (Newcastle User) Tel: 01234 798157 Approved by Christine Hunting
Please install and configure 2 Ultra 2s (typhoon and lancaster) for use as ARTE workstations. These workstations require Solaris 2.5.1 plus the same patches as before
CR0/CRZ3118 Requestor Doug Cunningham (Newport User) Tel: 0114 9881480 Approved by John Smithers
Please provide support to set up Cisco 2691 Router and PIX-506E Firewall to enable external connection of a remote terminal for project work.
As you will appreciate the text in the cells is of non standard lenght and the three pieces of information can be located virtually any where in the text
Reading Numbers As Strings From .csv File
I have a .csv file that contains numerical data in the form of strings, much of which starts with leading zeros (i.e. "012345"). I double checked to make sure the .csv file has the leading zeros and that they are wrapped in quotation marks in notepad, and it does. However, when Excel opens the file, it must read those strings as numbers, becuase it chops off the zeros. Does anyone know of way to fix this? Can Excel read numbers as strings straight from a .csv file?
Conditional Extraction Of Numbers In Alphanumeric Strings
I have a column with product packaging sizes with different syntaxes, such as:
"2 x 5 kg"
"200 l (212 kg)"
"1000 l (1400 kg)"
"20 l (20,54 kg)"
As you can see the syntax varies a lot! Now I need a formula to extract certain numbers for different calculations. E.g. if the string has a letter "x" then the number(s) in front of it would be extracted. Or if the string has the letter "l" or "kg" the numbers in front of them (including decimals) would be extracted while discarding the rest. Is this even possible? Personally, I would change the whole system and break the strings across a number of columns but unfortunately it is not up to me...
Specific Cells Populate With Specific Numbers When A Value Within A Range Is Entered
Here is what i am trying to achieve. If the date 2/20/2010 is located at F53 & the cell next to it at H53 is populated with a number between 1 & 16, then i want the cell at J11 (42 rows further up) to auto populate with the number 1. When this occurs the cells beneath this, from J12 to J52 should also auto populate with the with consecutive numbers from 2 to 42. Would also like to see the cells with numbers 1 to 28, automatically format to orange & the cells containing numbers 29 to 42 automatically format to yellow. I plan to have this condition repeat several times later in the year, at dates that are to be decided. When these dates are decided i want to be able to enter a number from 1 to 16 & next to the date & all of the above automatically occurs.
Extract Specific Data And Copy
I want to extract specific expense for my year 2009 work book. such as just rent with relevant data from all other expeses.
for example in my work book, I want to extract rental expense with relevant GST PST and Total for all three months. i attached a excel work book for broader idea.
Extract All Occurences Of Specific Word
Cell in excel containing large amount of text. Contains the following text one or more times (including the speech marks): "Provide Dwd/Dwl Number: DWD*****"
What I need to do is extract all of the DWD values from this cell, load into an array and dump them into another cell. It's the extraction bit that I need to sort out. In my mind the way that the code should work is:
Find all instances of 'dwd'
For each instance of 'dwd'
check the next/proceding character.
if the character is a space, check the next one
if the character is not a number or space, break and go to the next instance of 'dwd'
if the character is a number add it and the next 5 characters to a temp variable (varTemp)
take the value of varTemp, prepend it with 'dwd' and add it to the running list/array
Output the full list of DWDs
Extract Specific Values From Column
I Need to loop through col W Used range except the last row which is totals or the first 4 rows which is Heading stuff, and if value > 0 post it to a column on the right based on the day code. ( 31 values 1 for each day)
Day code is in cell M1 and is an Integer
Day 1 = Post to Col 101
Day 2 = Post to Col 102
Manipulating Text Strings
I have a column filled with names per row. I wanted to standardize it by using the following format.
The comma after the last name is always an indicator to me that it is the last name.
<First Name> <Middle Initial(if any)> <Last Name>
My actual records contains the following:
BIMBO EPPING - OK
AHMAD SADICK - OK
Salana, Laura R - need to be arranged to > Laura R Salana
Cantos, Rhoda Grace J - need to be arranged to > Rhoda Grace J Cantos
Countif With Text Strings
How would I write a formula to Countif or Sumif a cell contains a string of text? ie if I wanted to look for "Andrew" in cells that contained the text "AndrewKent", "Andrew Kent", "Kent Andrew" etc how would I do it?
Append Text To Strings
I have a database with Column "A" that looks like this:
I want a code that would add ".pv" to every cell in "A" Column so it'll look like:
Joining Text Strings
I have to cell values that are strings and I want to add the two string values together to form a sentance, when I do this using a + sign or a & sign there is no space between the 2 strings, how do I get a space?
Counting Consecutive Text Strings
I want to count the number of consecutive text entries in the one column. Skip a certain entry eg: NA, then count the next string of the same entry. eg:
So the output that I am after will be counting the number of Apples in a row 4 & 3 but skipping NA.
Advanced Filter For <> Several Text Strings
i have a lot of data which i am going to be running an advanced filter on. One of the criteria i am trying to filter for is a list of text values that i want to make sure a row does not contain. Lets say for example I have a list of 2 text values in column "symbols" that i would like to omit in my filtered results, "abc" and "xyz".
As of now I can only set up a criteria to omit one of those.
this works right now.
But if i try to put <>xyz in the cell immediately under there, I thought its supposed to be filtering for symbol that does not equal abc or xyz, but instead it doesnt filter anything out. I think it may be a syntax error or something else that I am doing wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Ideally, I would like to be able to filter out a list of text values that I keep in another column. Like lets say today I wanted to omit "abc" "xyz" and "lmnop" and I would have the advanced filter criteria just reference that list of values as what I would like to filter out. Except there would probably be a list of at least 20 to 30 values, that change over time, so it would be much easier to just keep it all neat in one column that I can edit as I need to.
Formula: Filters On Two Text Strings
I am trying to write a formula that filters on two txt strings. The table consists of only three columns an ID number, a subject field and a date&time column but the number of rows will change every week as new records are added.
What I would like to do is search for the start of text string then the end txt string compare the ID number to make sure they are the same then work out the number or work hours the call has been open for. This then needs to be repeated for all entries in the table. The table will contain many other txt strings that need to be ignored.
Formula To Join Several Text Strings Together
I am using the following formula to join several text strings together:
(in the above $A$2 is just a few spaces in order to seperate the test)
I was wondering if there is a way of joing text strings that will align all info properly? Right now it just joiins them together but visually that is not really very appealing.
This is an example of what I am getting:
11 111 1111 11 111
22 2222 22 2222 222
333 33 3333 333 333
This is how I want it:
11 111 1111 11 111
22 2222 22 2222 222
333 33 3333 333 333
Searching For Codes In Text Strings
field b831 B831 write AASLQ0300000l;
PCPACIMTAAABl [B29 ]
field B7 b7 ;
field a8 @latestdate("PCP2EHSEAAAAh", jEnd);
field b8 @if(a8 <jStart, @latest("PCP2EHSEAAAAh", jEnd),
@avg("PCP2EHSEAAAAh", jStart, jEnd));
I want to look through this text and copy out any 13 character codes that
are present (e.g. "PCPACIMTAAABl" ,2 "PCP2EHSEAAAAh").
These codes all share the following characteristics,
1) they are all 13 characters in length
2) the last character in the code is always either a "l", "h" or a "c".
3) they contrain no spaces
4) the first 12 characters are always in CAPS (followed by a lower "l", "h"
or a "c".
Bold Common Text In 2 Strings
I'm not too sure if this will be really easy difficult or really difficult but I want to write some code that compares the value of two strings, and any characters that arent in string 2 will be return formatted in bold. For example, if String1 was "The Quick Brown Fox" and String2 was "The Quick Yellow Fox jumped over the lazy dog", String2 would then be returned as "The Quick Yellow Fox jumped over the lazy dog".
