Formatting Cells From Another Cell
Nov 8, 2008Hi All, I have Column I, which has a drop down menu in it, which if "WITH NOU" is selected - i would like it to change the colour of the text in column B, to a dark blue?

View 9 Repliesi have just read the thread started by scabertrain regarding "if" conditonal formating, but mines slightly different and i cant make head nor tale of the fomula shown.
So... Monthly budgeting... using a projected outgoing (A1) and an actual outgoing (A2) i want the colour "A2" to change depending on whether i have spent over the budgeted amount, green being underspent, orange for on target and red for over spending....
Example:
I predicted (A1) that i was going to spend £50 on a night out, but my actual spending (A2) was £100, i would like A2 to turn to red.
I'm doing a Comparison of Price quotes from some different vendors and I want to highlight which one is the lowest.
4 Rows with Totals
The Cells are B21, B43, B65, B87
I need each value in each location to be compared to the other 3.
The other thing is that I also C through V that need the same thing.
I want to change (via conditional formatting) the background colour of cell H64 and K72 when I select / highlighted / activate (i.e. just left click in the cell) cell C66.
I don't seem to be able to find in the formulae something to indicate if C66 is selected / highlighted /activated.
I want to format a range of cells based on the name listed in a cell in column A (starting @A6). I currently do this manually. It is to help me visually see the line I am working with and for what person.
I am almost certain that is going to take a VBA, but I know little to nothing about setting one up.
I have attached a sample. I am using Excel 2003.
How multiple cells can be formatted based on one cell value. See the screenshot attached to understand what I am trying to achieve. I am very new to excel formatting, vba etc.

My Goal: If the value of G8 (which is the result of a count formula) matches the value of G10, then apply formatting to G10 through H11.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a formula in A56 that adds cells A1:A54. I want to use conditional formatting to highlight A56 if any of the cells in A1:A54 are blank. I am unsure how to do this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have one cell with $20,000 hard coded (cell A1). In another cell I want the cell to say "20,000 Capital Raise" (cell B1). And i want B1 to link to A1 so that if i change the number in A1 it will also change in B1.
Here's what i have in B1 so far: ="$"&J6&" Capital Raise"
This produces "$20000 Capital Raise" in cell B1.
So the only thing i'm trying to figure out is how to get the comma in the $20,000 so it will read "$20,000" instead of "$20000".
I'm looking to see if there is a way to take the decimal place formatting of cell and apply it to other cells.
For example, if someone types in 0.0001 into a source cell, I'd like to take that decimal formatting and apply it to other destination cells. This way when values are typed into those cells it will automatically display 4 places past the decimal, no matter what the value. ie 50 will display 50.0000
I would like to do conditional formatting...
Range (A1:Y192)
Turn the row number (identified in cell AC1) into RED fill.
How can I condition format a cell to show no format if the cell contains a date
Please see the attached book1.xlsx for more info. Book1.xlsx
I have a spreadsheet where I want to be able to Fill cells green in Column B to Column N for any Rows that have a value in Column L. All other Rows should remain the current colour (orange).
I can Fill the cells in Column L using conditional formatting but am not sure if I can use Conditional Formatting on other Columns so that their Fill colour is determined by the value in Column L?
I'm using windows xp and excel 2010. I have a very large sheet that has a bunch of highlighted cells. There all highlighted the same color. I need to remove the highlighting colors and change the font color of the highlighted cells to red.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA little background on what i am doing. I have a spreadsheet that tracks when i have blown the dust out of our computers. I have set up conditional formatting so that the text turns red after 300 days and the cell turns yellow after 600 days. However, some computers are in high dust environments. I would like the spreadsheet to tell me to blow the dust out of these sooner. see the attached sheet.

I have a spreadsheet with 'due date' for returns in column L and 'received date' for returns, in the adjacent column M.
I would like to get the due date to turn red when it is overdue, ie. the date in the cell has arrived and no return was submitted. By trawlling the forum, I managed to accomplish this with the following in conditional formatting:
Cell value is less than or equal to =TODAY()
All's great.....but - I would like the date to turn back to black if I enter a date in the adjacent received column, column M.
In other words, I want to flag a problem if the due date has passed, but once I receive the return and enter the date I receive it, i would like the due date entry to revert back to the original formatting ie. black. So only the outstanding returns are highlighted.
what i would like to do is change the fill colour of D68 if the word Air appears with in D5:D65?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm a average excel user, i know my way around it and kow common and basic formulee, VB isnt a strong point, but i am willing to attemp anything for this, let me explain
Lets say in colum A I have a list of items, in colum B i have a check box, currently the check box is red, if i tpye a x it turns green due to conditional formating. That works fine...onto the problem...
Lets say in colum A i have my items but they are repeated...eg A1, A145, A166, A122 are all the same item, what i want is regardless of where i place the x each check box under coloum B either gets a X and turns green, or just turns green, i dont mind...
I dont think conditional formatting can cut this, though i may be wrong. Ive tried to use the IF function under condtional formatting but ran into problems...
how to apply conditional formatting via VBA to a range of cells based on input from another range of cells. Obviously this would be easy in Excel 2010, but I'm still using 2003 at the office and it needs to stay in this format to be readable by other users:
For cells M8:EK8, my conditional formatting
condition 2: Formula Is =AND($E$8>=M2,(($E$8-$D$8)>=(N2-$M$2))), color index is 40
condition 3: Formula Is =AND($F$8<=M2,$G$8>=M2), color index is 39
I want to add:
condition 4: Formula Is =AND($H$8<=M2,$I$8>=M2), color index is 40
condition 5: Formula Is =AND($J$8<=M2,$K$8>=M2), color index is 39
and so on
The cells in the range M8:EK8 are blank, they only get colored based on input added to D8 to K8. If there is no input, then the cells should be uncolored.

I have a simple spreadsheet and am trying to get some Conditional Formatting to work.
Cell1 = Name
Cell2 = 1
Cell3 = 2
Cell4 = 3
If cells 2, 3, and 4 all match I want the background in cell 1 to change to green.
I've tried (Formula Is =B1=C1=D1 green) with no luck.
I'm using Excel 2007. I would prefer to stay away from the scripting side of the house if possible. This is basically a 3 day forcast weather chart. The top is the actual weather data, the bottom portion is a color coded reflection of how the weather affects various things.
This product is created in excel, but will be embedded into a powerpoint. It will be updated daily. Here is what I would like. I want the color chart at the bottom to update automatically based on the data I enter above. I have a grasp that I can update the color through conditional formatting, although im not exactly sure what that will look like with all of those cells.
I also figured out that I can insert the letters in those lower cells with something similar to " =IF(C6>90, "T", "") " which would put in a 'T' for Temperature when the temperature got above a certain degree.
I run into a problem when I have multiple factors affecting a single cell. For instance on the example in day 2 of my image. Personnel are affected by Temperate AND UV Index. How would I set up that cell to pull that information from both of those cells and display it accordingly? I would prefer the letters to stay separated by the comma, but I could live without that. The default cell color will be green, with the potential to be yellow or red. I left a few examples of possible situations on day 2 and 3.
I'm trying to analyse all of my bank statenments to see where all my money went!! I've got online banking so I thought it would be a relatively easy process of copying and pasting each month into excel.
Well, that in itself was easy, the problem is with the formatting of the financial numbers. Excel doesn't seem to recognise them as numbers, so at the moment I can't do any manipulation with the numbers. I have tried everything such as:
Format Cells > Number > Number and Currency
Copy and Paste Special > Values only
Copying into Notepad and back into Excel
Even if it appears to have changed the numbers to 'number' or 'currency' formatting by right justifying the numbers, if I try to add up the numbers using the SUM function, it doesn't want to know.
For some reason nothing seems to work - what am I missing?
For an example, I have attached a snippet of the spreadsheet with my starbucks transactions.
Working in Excel 2007. I am using excel for a data log (basically) and want it to format all empty cells in a row yellow if there is data in column A
Basically, If i have a value in A2, I want any empty cell between B2-G2 to be filled in yellow (as an idicator to the inputter that the cell needs to be completed).
there is already conditional formatting on these cells, which i want to maintain for the non-empty cells. I also have "0" as a value, so I couldn't use the basic conditional formatting setting it =0, it highlighted cells with $0.00, which i do not want.
Is there a way to set up a conditional format for several cells so that the cells are filled in with red until the user enters text in those cells??
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo i've been trying to do this invoice/inventory/client , I couldn't find a way to somehow register the whole invoice as it is, so i can later print/visualize it if i lost the copy or something.
It would be best if it just stayed stored in a variable and not always visible, and only appeared if i wanted to check/print it.
The whole invoice would be from A1 to F30
Excel 2010 btw
What I am looking to do is;
If cell A2 = "Closed"
then I want cells B2 and C2 to strike through its own text.
I.E.
A2= anything other than "Closed"
then B2 and C2 = Blah blah blah
but if
A2 = Closed
then B2 and C2 = Blah blah blah
I have attached the sample. I need the cells without the employee or without a boss to highlight a color and i also need the date of certification to highlight if it is more than one year old.

Creating a project tracking sheet that is as automted as possible so that people dont have to populate lots. I have managed to get it to create a new sheet and populate according to a filled out combobox. The user then populates a 'milestone' section. When a button is clicked these are transferred to a GANTT chart type sheet and pasted. Before they are pasted the macro checks if the project title exists, if it does not it first pastes the title LEFT INDENTED. Then follows by pasting the milestones CENTRED. If the title exists, it inserts the milestones under the project title by copying and pasting all milestones. Hence, if milestones are regularly added, it will begin to add duplicates of the same milestone. I need to remove these. I would usually be able to do this however there is often the same milestone in numerous projects which I CANNOT remove as it would loose data. I would like a code that says between the cell I was searching for (Rng) and the next cell which is also left indented to remove duplicates. Basically I can't use x1enddown because it needs to stop at the next cell which has the same formatting... i.e. only duplicates to be removed out of the cells which are centred. I would then like it to repear this action for the whole document and move the next left indented cell and do the same.
It feels like a kind of backward conditional formatting is what I am looking for
Here is my code as it stands
Dim FindString As String
Dim Rng As Range
FindString = Range("D2").Value
If Trim(FindString) <> "" Then
[Code]....
I have one column that contains a monetary amount (column AQ) , and another that contains text reading either "inflows" or "outflows" (column AC)
When AC says "inflows", AQ should be positive, and when AC says "Outflows", AQ should be negative.
I need the text in column AQ (the monetary amount) to become red when the the opposite is true.
i.e. When AQ is negative and AC says "Inflows", AQ should become red. And when AQ is positive and AC says "Outflows", AQ should become red.
I know how to format a cell so that if I type 5 it will say: 5 SF And then in another cell if I type 15, it will say: 15 Units
Is there any way possible to format a cell so that if I type (its actually calculated via formulas) these two numbers in one cell that it will format them both?
EXAMPLE: One cell that has 5, 15 will read: 5 SF and 15 Units
