Formula With Multiple Lookup Parameters

May 8, 2009

In the attached file I have a sheet containing my data in A1 - D73. Column A contains a list of names, Column B contains a specific month, Column C contains a specific category and Column D contains the raw data.

Is it possible to create a formula similar to VLOOKUP to look not only at Column A, but to look at Column B as well in determining the value returned? I would like other users to first select a name and then select a month to view the data. I've attached a sample of what I've created so far. The original file contains 14 Names, 9 Months and 40 Categories.

CountIF Multiple Parameters

Jun 18, 2009

I have a long list of past jobs, around 4000+. I have multiple fields, but I really wish to concentrate on the:

1) Job Type - Example would be Medical or Imprint

2) Job # - Correlates when it was done - Example would be 91059 would be a job within 2008-2009 fiscal year.

All the jobs are listed in the first spreadsheet. The second spreadsheet will hold generalized data broken down by the Type of Job and the fiscal year it was done.

I wish to first count how many jobs fit a specific job type. This was easily done:

=COUNTIF(Data!A2:A4121,A7)

A7 = Medical
A1:A4121 = the range of the names.

Count comes up as 346, which is correct.

I then want to add another parameter to break up the 346 by fiscal year. It ranges from 05-06 to 08-09. I came up with this:

=COUNTIF(Data!A2:A4121,A7)-COUNTIF(Data!F2:F4121,"9????")

Since the job # correlates to the fiscal year it was created, anything starting with 9 is a job done in 08-09. Anything starting with an 8 would be of course 07-08 range. I would have multiple fields with each different fiscal year.

However, when I put the 2nd formula in the function didn't work. It keeps the count at 346, which I know is wrong. I am not sure if I did something wrong here. Been looking at this for an hour and can't figure out what is wrong. The jobs that are medical within 08-09 fiscal year should be 120, but it keeps at 346.

Multiple Parameters In Sum Product

Oct 18, 2011

Im currently using the below formula but was wondering if its possible to combine the parameteres that im looking up in coulmn L in sheet one so i dont have to do the formula three times? something along the lines of={"P11111";"P22222";"P33333"}?

=SUMPRODUCT(sheet1!S$3:S$10000;--(sheet1!$E$3:$E$10000='sheet2'!$B$2);--(sheet1!$Q$3:$Q$10000=678);--(sheet1!$N$3:$N$10000='sheet2'!$D23);--(sheet1!$L$3:$L$10000="P11111"))+SUMPRODUCT(sheet1!S$3:S$10000;--(sheet1!$E$3:$E$10000='sheet2'!$B$2);--(sheet1!$Q$3:$Q$10000=678);--(sheet1!$N$3:$N$10000='sheet2'!$D23);--(sheet1!$L$3:$L$10000="P22222"))+SUMPRODUCT(sheet1!S$3:S$10000;--(sheet1!$E$3:$E$10000='sheet2'!$B$2);--(sheet1!$Q$3:$Q$10000=678);--(sheet1!$N$3:$N$10000='sheet2'!$D23);--(sheet1!$L$3:$L$10000="P33333"))

Multiple Criteria Parameters In SUMIFS

Apr 29, 2014

I have a below table as below

A B C
a aa 1
a aa 1
a dd 1
a aa 1
b aa 1
b bb 1
b aa 1
b bb 1
c cc 1
c bb 1
c bb 1
c cc 1
d cc 1
d aa 1
d bb 1
d cc 1

When i put the formula

=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIFS(C1:C16,A1:A16,{"a","b","c"}))

it returns 12 However when i put

=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIFS(C1:C16,A1:A16,{"a","b","c"},B1:B16,{"aa","bb"}))

it returns only 5

I don't want to use multi formula like

=SUMPRODUCT(SUMIFS(C1:C16,A1:A16,{"a","b","c"},B1:B16,"aa"})) + SUMPRODUCT(SUMIFS(C1:C16,A1:A16,{"a","b","c"},B1:B16,"bb"}))

I want to achieve this using SUMIFS only

Microsoft Query Multiple Parameters

Mar 12, 2014

I would like to have set of data as Parameter if possible.

Example: In Microsoft Queries I have two data sets. In first one shows let's say Item Number, and second one I should have table with components of all Item numbers listed in first table.

So first table I set one Parameter (?) and i get like 8 results. I would like that second table takes those 8 results (sometimes more or less then 8) as parameter and shows data (components) for them.

If I set sign '?' I can only select one cell as parameter, is there any way I can select multiple cells as parameter and use it like SQL function IN ?

Code:
SELECT 1.ITMNR, 1.COMNR, 1.QTYPR
FROM 1.1.1 1

WHERE 1.ITMNR IN ?

And second table should look for results in first table under 1.COMNR and select it as 2.ITMNR

Code:
SELECT 2.ITMNR, 2.COMNR, 2.QTYPR
FROM 1.1.2 2

WHERE 2.ITMNR IN ?

Multiple Reference LOOKUP Formula?

May 6, 2014

I'm trying to cross-reference three sets of criteria to find my result; however, I can't get the VLOOKUP function to perform correctly for this need. Maybe I'm using the wrong function.

I attached a simple workbook to highlight my challenge. The over-simplified language that I included in the attachment, which highlights my problem, is as follows:

IF:
(B5=Sheet2!B4:B12) ---> This line finds the correct row to reference, on the Control sheet.
(year(C2)=Control!C3:E3) ---> This line chooses the correct annual column on the Control sheet, for the given month (e.g., use 2014 assumptions for a 2014 month).
(month(C2)=Control!E14) ---> This line counts the expense only in the month when the expense recurs (e.g., April 2014, April 2015).

THEN:
SUM(Control!C4:E12) ---> This line finds the specific number based on the criteria above.

Import Multiple Text Files Based On Parameters

Mar 11, 2008

I get about 10 text files at the beginning of each month that I need to import into Excel. The file layout does change slightly from month to month so I have an Excel spreadsheet with the layout as the first worksheet. Each text file is in fixed layout form rather than delimited. The structure of that page is that the name of the first text file is in cell A1. The cumulative field widths are below that and the data formats are next to the field widths (in the adjacent column “B”). T=Text, G=General, D= Date with 3 flavors of Date: YMD, DMY and MDY. For the second text file, it repeats the structure in columns “C” and “D”, the third text file in columns “E” and “F” etc. What I would like is for the macro to open the first text file (based on the name in cell A1) and import it into a new worksheet (same file) using the cumulative field widths in A2 through A8 and the formats from B2 through B8, then import the next text file to a new worksheet (same file) using the cumulative field widths in C2 through C8 and the formats from D2 through D8 and keep going until all the files have been imported. The sheet names should be the same as the file that is imported (the “.txt” part of the file name isn’t important). I’ve attached a copy of the Excel spreadsheet that has the file names, field widths (cumulative) and field formats and a 2 row sample of the text file for the first import.

Return A Cell Formula's Parameters

May 23, 2006

i need to essentially find and replace udf's and the complication is rearranging the parameters in the udf's into a new formula structure.

so my question, is there an easy way to extract a parameter (or all parameters) from a function?

for example, if you had = SUM(A1,A2,A3:A6) you would return 'A1' as the first parameter, 'A2' as the second and 'A3:A6' as the third.

Obviously it gets complicated when you nest functions such as =SUM(IF(A2=1,0,A1),A3) etc and the if() function would be parameter 1.

Creating Formula That Will Lookup For Multiple Arrays?

May 28, 2014

I need creating a formula for the following situation.

I need to link multiple arrays from different sheets. But am having a hard time concocting a formula that will work.

I have 2 columns of data on sheet1. For example:

A-------------B
apples-----1245
oranges----456
nuts--------384

etc.

Now, I need a formula that will sum the entire column B, by looking up the array of column A on another sheet and only summing the numbers on sheet 1 that also have a value of "West" on sheet 2. Sheet 2 looks like this:

A-------------B
apples------West
oranges-----East
nuts---------West

This needs to be functional as a template to be used each month - the entire point of the formula is to save time and eliminate the current (and lengthy method that is in use). I can tweak the formulas as needed. But am trying to avoid having to concatenate anything or do any modifications to the format of the sheets.

Lookup Formula To Return Multiple Results?

Dec 8, 2013

I am trying to create a workbook where I can log what work I have done in one spreadsheet and allocate an invoice number to it. In a separate spreadsheet within the same workbook I have created an invoice template. When I enter in the invoice number into the invoice template it's not collecting the correct information.

For example, if I want the details for invoice 10 to show in the invoice template, details for invoice 19 appear.

I have used this formula:
=IFERROR(INDEX(ServiceRecord[[Invoice number]:[Date invoice issued]],
SMALL(IF(ServiceRecord[[Invoice number]:[Date invoice issued]]
='Invoice TEMPLATE'!$F$8,ROW(ServiceRecord[Invoice number])),ROW(1:1)),2),"")

I am wanting to add new information as time goes on and also to be able to put in any invoice number into the invoice template to recall information as needed.

Formula To Return Results Based On 2 Parameters?

Jul 5, 2013

1) I have an invoice form, and need to create a formula that will allow me to calculate a discount IF an item number begins with "C" or "CE".

Example: Item # is in cell F12. (may or may not begin with "C" or "CE")

Item price is in cell J12.

Extended price (qty x price) is in cell K12.

In L12, I need to calculate a discount (from % in fixed cell L9) on the figure in K12 - based on whether or not the Item # in F12 begins with a C or CE.

If it does not begin with C or CE, then L12 needs to equal 100% of K12.

(The 2 parameters I referred to in the title were:

C, followed by a number
CE followed by a number )

2) The biggest part of the dilemma is that the person using this spreadsheet is totally unfamiliar with Excel formulas, spreadsheets in general, and has to send this finished product to a client each week. So I need this to be as simple as possible - which seems to me to be a formula (that can be copied to insert rows, etc. if necessary).

Create IF / LOOKUP Formula To Look At Multiple Sheets Within Workbook?

May 5, 2014

New to using Excel formula's and am trying to create an IF/LOOKUP formula to look at multiple sheets within a workbook and display the information within the 'compare' sheet. The yellow cells are where data will be entered.

What I am trying to achieve:

Type the store numbers on the compare sheet (B2 and D2). For the sheet attached I have put 190 (in B2) and 2012 (in D2)

B2 store shows the predicted and actual values of 190 in columns B & C

D2 store shows the predicted and actual values of 2012 in columns E & F
(No need to worry about variance and difference columns)

So, if I change the store numbers in B2 and D2 to any of the sheet numbers, I want it to display the correct info for that particular store within the compare sheet.

I have attempted a formula, which you can see... I have basically looked at some previous sheets that had IF and LOOKUP on it and tried to replicate that for my sheet, but with no luck.

Formula / Function To Pull In Multiple Lookup Values

Aug 21, 2014

I am trying to replicate a payslip from a list of data on a worksheet.

The list of data contains the employee name, location they worked, and number of hours.

Each employee will work at multiple locations throughout the month, perhaps 10 or so.

The payslip must contain each location worked along with the relevant data, in a list so to speak.

What function can I use to pull this in? Of course if it were one location I would use vlookups to pull in data. As this only returns the top match I would then need a different formula to pull in the second location in the cell underneath?

Copy Formula Down / Across Taking From Data Table With Vertical And Horizontal Parameters

Mar 6, 2013

Excell file eWorked Example.xlsx

I am trying to set-up a formula that needs to be copied down and across and draws upon a data table that has a horizontal and vertical parameter that needs to be checked for the formula to return the right answer.

I have tried all manner of Index/Match, Offset etc but can only get one of either the vertical, or horizontal parameter working.

I have attempted a formula which is

=INDEX('PIP Input'!$C$17:$C$29,MATCH(H$1,('PIP Input'!$H$17:$H$29),0),MATCH($B4,'PIP Input'!$H$15:$L$15,0))

('PIP Input'!$H$17:$H$29) is column dependent on MATCH($B4,'PIP Input'!$H$15:$L$15,0)

If $B4 returned a different result from ('PIP Input'!$H$17:$H$29) then it would need to be ('PIP Input'!$I$17:$I$29)

How to nest the Horizontal Match inside the Vertical Match, such that the Vertical Match changes column depending on $B4?

Multiple Lookup Values Rows And Columns To Lookup Single Target Column On Right End?

Apr 7, 2014

I have a table of data (say Column1 to Column 5) with multiple rows.

Column 1 to 4 will have the lookup values in multiple rows and Column 5 data should be picked up using vlookup or other lookup function.

I managed to somehow bring all these lookup values in (Column 1 to 4) in a single column in another sheet. I am now trying to use some lookup or other functions to match this single column and pick column 5 data in original sheet. Result i am expecting is lookup value in first column and next to it column 5 value.

It is basically a lookup wherein lookup value is spread over multiple rows and columns and result column is fixed. I tried using vlookup, but lookup value column and column number had to change every time when i moved from column1 to 4.
