Name Of Workbook When Moving Data Back And Forth

Jul 9, 2012

I am having some trouble writing a code for a macro that moves data between documents.

The document that I transfer data from is an excel extract from a survey, so everytime I have to run the macro, it is with a new document with a new name.

I can get so far as to move the first cell information into the other specified workbook, but I cannot get the macro to return to the the first document (the one where the name changes with every use).

Moving And Deleting Entire Rows Between Tabs In Workbook And Moving Them Back If Needed

Sep 23, 2013

I have an excel work book with 6 tabs. I would like to have Excel move an entire row from one tab to another tab (removing the row and inserting it in the other tab). I.e. Example I have a tab with items that are marked as "Open Actions" so if I were to change the drop down to close. Excel would move that entire row of actions to the tab with the "closed actions" and insert into the next available row. Now if someone were to come back at a later date say no it should be reopened than I would change the drop down to open and excel would move that row back to the open actions tab into next available row. I tried a PIVOT table and no good I played with few macro and not.

Moving Back And Forth Between Files

May 12, 2007

I am developing a macro where I need to open a file, copy a value from a cell in that file and paste it in a cell of the original file. I need to do this several times from the same two files. My problem is that I don't have a command that moves back to the newly opened file to copy another value and paste it, again, in a cell of the original file. I can't use a specific file name to move to the newly opened file because the new file name changes every day. Here is the command that I use to open a new file:

Dim fn As Variant
fn = Application. GetOpenFilename("Excel-files,*.xls", _
1, "Select The Previous Day's Borrowing File To Open", , False)
If TypeName(fn) = "Boolean" Then Exit Sub
' the user didn't select a file
Debug.Print "Selected file: " & fn
Workbooks.Open fn

I need to move back to file fn several times, but, as I stated above, the file fn changes every day.

Radio Buttons Macros Hyperlinks And Moving Back?

Sep 6, 2002

I'd like to insert some radio buttons in a worksheet that activate a hyperlink to a web page and then be able to go back to where I started (ie the radio button)

I can link the button to a macro which was a recording of clicking on a hyperlink. The trouble is when I hit the return arrow to return to the sheet from the web page I go back to the location of the hyperlink not where I started from.

Is there a way to do this with the buttons.

If I can rearrange the sheet to allow for more narrow columns I may be able to just use the hyperlink friendly name argument and do it that way but I'm not so sure I can insert more narrow columns without messing up the layout of the whole sheet. With a button I can float several of them over an area regardless of the width of the columns.

Moving Data From One Workbook To Another

Jan 18, 2014

I have two workbooks and wish to extract data from the first workbook (second tab), and insert certain cell data into a specific cell in the second workbook (first tab).

The first workbook has this info:
SN
SN
Sort
P/N
Removal
Customer 1
Customer 2
Program
Rec Month

ABCD1234
D1234
1234567899
Scheduled
Customer A
Customer B
Block 10
Nov-13

[Code] .......

This is a very large data set. The S/N will appear multiple times. The rest of the data will change with each entry, but there are some exceptions where it may be the same.

The second workbook has this data:
ID
S/N
A
B
P/N
Born-on-Date
Date Rec
Ship Date
Customer 1

123456
ABCD1234
1 thru 14
Yes or No
1234567899
03/10/2007
11/07/2013
11/22/2013
Customer A

[Code] .......

This too is a very large data set. What I need to do is to find the S/N in the first table "based on the month" and replace the entry under Customer 1 with the associated Customer 2 data entry. The VLOOKUP function can't seem to handle the multiple S/N entries.

Switch Back To Previous Workbook

Nov 29, 2007

I have a macro that unprotects a worksheet copies data from that worksheet and pastes it into a newly created and saved workbook. However I have two problems

1) I'm attempting to copy the data from the first workbook by selecting all cells and then when switching to the new workbook, select all cells and the paste special (values) then paste special (formats). This works when recording the macro but when I attempt to run it it bombs out.

Cells.Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteFormats, Operation:=xlNone, _
SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False

2) How do I get the macro to switch back to the workbook it got its data from. The name of the source workbook varies and there may be from 2 to 15 workbooks open. Is there a previous active workbook command? or do I need to create some kkind of temporary value to hold the file name of the source workbook.

Calling Macro In Another Workbook And Carrying Some Variables Back And Forth

May 22, 2013

I have a macro running in a workbook that gathers some data (a date, a string and a few arrays). Towards the end of this macro, I need it to open another workbook and run a macro that sits in this other workbook, using the data from the first workbook. I then need it to return some results (several integers) back to the first macro to be pasted into the first workbook.

I gather that I can't use 'Call' as the second macro is in another workbook.

I've found that I can use Application.Run but I'm unsure how to carry variables back and forth using this.

How to move the variables between macros / workbooks using the Application.Run option, or maybe another way of doing things?

Moving Information From One Workbook To Another?

Aug 15, 2014

I have to copy a column from another workbook and past in to the column in this workbook. However the column i am copying are all referenced from other cells. Is there a way to just copy the numbers and move them into this workbook to avoid double data entry?

I am attaching the 2 work books.

1. Is MSP commissions Structure that is where the data needs to be pasted
2. Grace - this is an example of what we will need to be copying from.

On Grace - copy Column G, Rows 65-81... The paste those numbers into MSP commissions structure column D, Rows 9-25......

We will have a file similar to Grace for EVERY deal closed....FYI so this process if possible needs to be replicated many times.

MSP commisson structure.xlsx
File Type: xlsx Grace.xlsx

Moving Workbook With Macro

Jun 4, 2007

I have a spreadsheet that is finally working great. I made a custom tool bar with 5 buttons and each tied to a seperate macro. On my laptop ( where I developed it) it works great.

I put the whole sheet on on a thumb drive and moved it to another computer. When I load the sheet on the new computer , the tool bars are there but they error saying something about they can not find it.

I went into each button and changed it to put the macros in this workbook, saved it and when I put it on the other computer I had the same issue. I reloaded the original sheet and it went went back to all open workbooks.

I think what I did is saved them to all workbooks and they must be stored on the original computer. I thought just changing the button link would do it but I guess I am wrong.

My question is how do I get the 5 macros to follow the workbook? I need to move this to another computer in the morning.

Calculating Distances Between Back-to-back Locations

Aug 11, 2012

I have a layout something like the following:

A1
A2
A3

[Code]....

Where each (i.e., A1) represents a location. I have tried to use a coordinate system but this will not work for the back-to-back locations. (Assuming each location is 2 feet wide, For example A1 to C1 is 4 feet apart, not 2 feet (as Euclidean or rectilinear would calculate it as).

Would there be a way to incorporate an if statement for those locations that are back-to-back? As a rectilinear distance calculation would work as long as the locations are not part of the same "block".

Ultimately I am looking to have a matrix which contains all the distances between each location:

A1
A2
A3
B1

Copying Data From UserForm To SpreadSheet And Back Again?

Feb 21, 2013

We created a database for our employees who have security items and other things we need to keep track. We created a spreadsheet where data was entered on Sheet2 (Entry Form) and then by clicking various buttons would be thrown over to Sheet1 (MasterList) and put in alphabetical order. Then last week he said lets change it to a User form where i can put all the data, be able to tab through my text boxes and make the whole process of entering information faster and more efficient.. but now hes gone and I'm left with his macros and all this stuff i don't really understand! I have been doing pretty well on my own but im stuck "Search Employee" Here is what i have...

VB:
Private Sub SearchEmployeeButton_Click()
LastName.Value = Range("A500").Value
FirstName.Value = Range("B500").Value

[Code]....

use code tags around code. Posting code without them makes your code hard to read and difficult to be copied for testing. Highlight your code and click the # at the top of your post window.

My particular file is about 10 MB, but if I "save as" it's only 1 MB. Plus, the pivot table "works," so I'm pretty sure Excel still has my data cached somewhere. How can I access it? I'm decent with VBA, so I'm open to any solution at all.

Putting Data Collected In UserForm Back Into Worksheet

Apr 14, 2013

I'm trying to set up a relatively simple UserForm, which will collect the name of a project from a ListBox, a project update which will simply be text entered into a TextBox, and a estimated completion percentage (factor of 10, 10/20/30% and so on) which will come from another ListBox.

I've managed to get many of the basics working, for example an OK button and a CANCEL button, but there are a few bits that I'm still finding rather tricky.

I have the selected date in the percentage listbox going back into my chosen place in the spreadsheet quite happily, but I can't get it to work for the project name listbox (I think it's because the options come from rowsource and weren't entered manually like the other one). I'll paste my code at the end so you can all see how I've done it (and have a laugh)!

I have also just about managed to get the data to go to the right place in the spreadsheet. I want the data to appear in columns, column 1 for the project name, project update in 2 and percentage complete in 3. I have this working, but it for any reason one cell becomes blank, my code uses that cell, and that could cause entries to become mixed up. I want the UserForm to enter data on the first entirely empty row.

Here's my code:

VB:
Private Sub Cancel_Click()
Unload ProjectUpdate
End Sub

Private Sub Clear_Click()
Call UserForm_Initialize
End Sub

Searching And Replacing Edited Data Back Into A Table

Jan 10, 2014

Basically I've got a back end worksheet with a huge table full of data (hundreds of rows, tens of columns) containing the data for a load of different contracts (each contract is on a different row).

I have all the information I want displayed on a front sheet by means of very simple lookups which looks for one contract at a time to display that information. What I would like to do is to be able to alter that information on the front sheet which will then go back and lookup that entry in the big table and overwrite the old data with the new. Effectively I want the excel sheet to act as a user form, but without actually using a form (a requirement from the people I'm doing this for). I'm struggling to find out how to do this as I don't know which VB functions I would need to use.

Each contract has its own unique reference number, so really what I need is some sort of code that will look for that reference number in the back end table, then look for any differences between what's on the front sheet and on the back end, and then replace anything that's changed.
