View 9 RepliesPlease help me get VLOOKUP to match only part of the text. I have the following situation:
In "sheet1":
___A________________B______C
1__USER3 (12346ar)___0______411 PCS
2__USER2 (45676ad)___0______313 PCS
3__USER5 (456ff)______0______112 PCS
4__USER8 (1246ew)____0______515 PCS
In "sheet2":
___A_________B________C______D
1__USER8____0_________0______=VLOOKUP(A1,'SHEET1'!$A:$C,3,0)*5
In "sheet2" , D1 I'll get #N/A if I do not type the complete name ( USER8 (1246ew) ). Is there a way to ignore this part " (1246ew)" and match only the name of the user?
Also when matching "515 PCS" can it automatically remove the " PCS" part so I can use only the number to make calculations?
Am trying to use index match to return value in column B based on matching 2 first chars on the left in column A.
Col A Col B
POS Majalt
POS Minalt
POS Instinctive
NB Viral
NB Sierra
NB Pierce
CLM Team1
CLM Team2
OS Tr1
OS Tr2
HR Tetra
HR Pentagon
IT penelope
Cell C1 : NBA MyFormula : {=INDEX(B:B,MATCH(LEFT(C1,2),"*"&$A:$A&"*",0))} <<== I need to find the match of NB only in range A:A to return the related values in Col B.
Expected Result:
NB Viral
NB Sierra
NB Pierce
Other than formula stated above, I've also tried with Isnumber(search), etc but all return errors.
Using the below formula. I know that I should get the result of 32 if I am dong this correctly (182 matches part 1 of which 32 match in part 2).
=SUMPRODUCT(--($A$1='7. PM BDE'! $J$3:$J$366))*(--('7. PM BDE'!$L$3:$L$366=1))
I have been working on this worksheet part of which is attached herewith. I would like excel to automatically enter Updated/Inserted in column B against Individuals' names as per the instructions given in column A. For example: As per instruction in A9, B13:B16 should show Updated. I have tried to use the nested if function, but it does not work as I want it to. Also as I am not used to macros or VBA codes, could this problem be solved with formulas?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to modify a sumproduct formula given previously by Kris which is to sum base on strings, to solve another problem but with no luck. My attempt without success is in BLUE column whereas the correct answers should be that in the RED column. Basically my problem is that if a condition is true, I want to concatenate the values of 4 cells with a space in between them.

Ex. if the was a cell that contained "someone@somewhere.com" I would like to make that cell only contain "@somewhere.com"
I'm creating a worksheet that gives a list of part numbers based on the product part code. In most cases I can use the following.
=LOOKUP(O6,{0,1,2,3,4},{"NONE (M25)","SMP-55-001","SMP-55-004","SMP-55-008","SMP-55-014"})
so this gives a part number depending on what number is placed in O6. What I need to do know is look at 2 different cells and for each combination of numbers give a different part number. so if A1 is 2 and B1 is 3 give a certain result.
Is there any way to remove the first part of a string of text in a cell and save the second part?
The first part of the text string is a team code that has a variable number of numbers, capital letters and sometimes spaces. The second part of the text string is a variable number of words in a team name that all start with a capital letter and have lower case letters. Every line has a different team code and team name.
The original spreadsheet also has a column with just team code. Is there a way of using this column to "subtract" the team code from the text string to just leave the team name?
I am looking for some macro code that will hide all rows except for those with certain text (i.e. W-NT or S1-DT). The cell range to search is C22-OU500.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the code below on a worksheet to modify a form based if it's a Purchase order or not. It works but it seems like it could be much shorter. I tried several different ways to write it but I can't get it to work any other way.
Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
' If cell E5 = "Purchase Order" remove sales tax % from E33 and Hide Text Boxes 1 and 8
If Target.Address = Range("E5").Address Then

I am working on a time management sheet for my company. I need to be able to click a button and have the file search 3 columns for a persons initials and then hide all the rows where the initials are not in at least one of the three columns. I seem to have no problem getting it to work for one column at a time, but as soon as I try to search more than one it all falls apart.
I will also need to create an unhide all button to reset the sheet after the macro has been run.
I have attached a sample of the sheet below. Each project needs to have 3 rows to show the schedule and budget broken down by each team member.
Project Number
Address
Service
PM

I have a spreadsheet which contains our fleet information covering many vehicles in one list. The teams for these vehicles are listed in Column A. What I would like to have is:
A dropdown box to pick from All, or the various teams in A1To hide every row that doesn't match the selection of A1To reveal every row that contains the selection for A1 at any point in column A. e.g: "*Dog Team*"
This is because something might be listed as "Moved from Dog Team" or "Dog Team, temporarily on loan", or "Dog Team V66.m"
I have taken a small sample of the data I will be working from and made a very simple drop down box which displays the pages of information for the vehicles by hiding/unhiding blocks of columns:
Code:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Address = "$A$2" Then
If Range("A2") = "MOT/Service" Then
ActiveSheet.Columns("A:P").EntireColumn.Hidden = False
ActiveSheet.Columns("Q:CE").EntireColumn.Hidden = True
ElseIf Range("A2") = "Contact Details" Then
[Code]....
But because there is also filters on the sheet, meaning the positions of the entries based on rows can change, I need it to search for the "*xyzzy*" method, but am unsure how to do this! While just using the Filters will work, due to some human limitations I have been asked to have a specific drop down box in a very specific location with instructions next to it.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Column <> 13 Then Exit Sub
If InStr(Target.Value, "Other (specify in next column)") Then
Columns("N").Hidden = False
ElseIf WorksheetFunction. CountIf(Columns("M"), "Other (specify in next column)") = 0 Then
Columns("N").Hidden = True
End If
End Sub
but I have a lot of columns that I need to perform as above and I have put the code together as below
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
On Error Resume Next
If Target.Column = 13 And InStr(Target.Value, "Other (specify in next column)") Then
Columns("N").Hidden = False
ElseIf WorksheetFunction.CountIf(Columns("M"), "Other (specify in next column)") = 0 Then.................
Using the above code, when I selected more than one cell anywhere in my workbook and pressed delete I was bugging out with a runtime error 13 message. You can see from the above code that I inserted "On Error Resume Next" - this got rid of the runtime error 13 message, but now when I select more than one cell and press delete, hidden columns are incorrectly revealed in my worksheet. how I can extend the working code at the top of this posting so that it works for a number of different columns in my Worksheet i.e. without the runtime error 13 occurring and without columns being incorrectly revealed.
I have a table on a sheet and you can select/filter some rows. The problem is that on the right i want to have some results with macros etc.
So I have to place everything well above the table because when you filter, rows are hidden and everything is messed up. Is there a way to "separate" the right part? So that when I hide/show rows on the table, it is not affected?
I have a large amount of numbers I need to check for in an excel spreadsheet but the problem is they may have other 'text' and other information surrounding it. For example global sub account = '8154','8111' so if I was looking for 8154 I would want to get a hit on that particular field based off a look up of sorts.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking to get a user's email address.
On Sheet A (Foreseen Absences) I have users enter their own data.
On Sheet B (email addresses) I have users' full names and email addresses.
I have the following formula entered on Sheet A to get the user's email address: =vlookup(C173,'email addresses'!A:C,3,0)
This works fine for staff who enter their full names, but I've got a few who are entering things like: G. Thoms or Marie which results in a #NA error.
Is there an easy way to update this formula to account for these instances?
I want to add all of the numbers in column D if Column C contains the word "REMO"
View 4 Replies View RelatedI do PPC work and you can export query data from Adwords with Column A being the actual search query. Then column B - E are impressions, clicks, cost & conversions (from each query). In this example, cell A1 might be running shoes, cell A2 might be walking shoes, cell A3 is running pants, and cell A4 is baseball pants. I want to add a new column (F) that does product category groupings based on partial text matches in column A. For example, anything that includes the text string shoe or shoes should be labeled as shoes in column F. Similarly, all queries that contain the characters pant would be listed as product category pants in column F.
Currently I do this manually by conditional formatting on column A for contains text and then color the cells. Then I sort by cell colors. Then I manually type in the product category into F for each color block in A. Needless to say, this is slow and manual.
What I would prefer is to have a master table (like a vlookup) on sheet 2 where column A is the list of partial text matches and column B is the product category to be returned if that the partial text in sheet 2 column A is found in the query list on sheet 1 column A. This way, on sheet 2 I could have cell A1 sneaker, cell A2 shoe, cell B1 shoes, cell B2 shoes, etc to manage the correlation between text strings and product category groupings.
Basically I want a formula to put in the cells on sheet 1 in column F that searches all of column A on sheet 1, looking for partial text matches from column A on sheet 2 and returning corresponding product category in column B on sheet 2.
I have a worksheet that I need to filter on 8 columns. I need to do this in the form (Col A = Bob OR SAM) AND (Col B = Apple OR Pear OR Banana) AND... etc for 8 columns.
I started this thread and we reached the conclusion that I needed either a macro to list out all the possible combinations on separate lines, or a complex criteria formula.
I'm trying to put together the complex criteria, but I am further stumped by the fact that some of the columns contain multiple terms with comma delimiters, so I'm trying to match part of a string, rather than a whole string, so the usual = ISNUMBER(MATCH(Sheet1!A2,Sheet2!$A:$A,0)) won't work. I tried using =ISNUMBER(FIND(Sheet2!$A:$A,Sheet1!A2)) instead, but I think this fails because it should be an array formula. I tried normal entering and CSE entering, and neither work, so I think this is a dead end.
I want to highlight a cell if the text displayed from an IF formula is equal to the cell content.
CELLS BK10:BN10 are merged and have entered into them the following text "SELL"
Cells BJ20:BP20 are merged and contain the following formula which currently results in the cell displaying "SELL"
=IF(BM22<=-0.08,"SELL", IF(AND(BM22>-0.08,BM22 < -0.03),"NO INDICATION", IF(BM22>=-0.03,"HOLD")))
Cell BM22 is a percentage calculation of the differences between two different days of volume for this stock and that formula is: =(BH22/BH25)-1 Cell BM22 currently is calculating the result to be -65.65%
When I set up a CLASSIC Conditional Formatting using a formula (="If($BJ$20=""SELL""") to check the if the text in cells BK10 match the text displayed in cell BJ20 - I get no error messages and no formatting?
I am using Mac Office Excel 2011. I feel like I have tried everything including changing the Number selection type of the cells to TEXT. Nothing seems to works.
I m trying to evaluate part of a string to determine if a number and if 6 char's in length. If Yes, return the 6 digit number, else 0
My formula below returns a #VALUE! error
It worked before I added the 6 char length condition, but sometimes return values of greater length that I do not need.
=IF(AND(ISNUMBER(VALUE(LEFT(C1809, FIND(" ",C1809)-1))),LEN(VALUE(LEFT(C1809,FIND(" ",C1809)-1)))=6),VALUE(LEFT(C1809,FIND(" ",C1809)-1)),0)
I need a formula to do a partial text match on column B to find all rows that contain "825-CL-A", then sum column C for all applicable rows with the latest date. In this example the result should be "4.25 + 6.50 = 10.75". I'm using Excel 2003 for this project.

I have 2 sheets in a file. One is given to me from our parts department containing all parts on a given truck model. The 2nd sheet is exported as a database file from inventor and imported as an update able sheet in excel.
I am needed to compare part numbers between the 2 sheets and the qty of each. So far I have it where it matches the part numbers and turns the ones I don't have in the model red. Now I'm trying to match the part numbers and pull the qty of said part from sheet 2, the imported one, and compare it to the to the qty in the 1st. All I really need to accomplish is matching the part numbers then copying the qty from sheet 2 to sheet 1 onto a new cell of the matched part number.
I want to know how to display part of a cells text value, inside another cell.
Suppose in cell A1 i have "20-Jun-14"
How would I get cell B2 to display just "Jun"?
I try to write the function that gets some "ref" and returns appropriate item.
For example: if I give to function "C3", it returns "AAA"
if I give to function "R18", it returns "BBB" (cause it between R15 to R26)
if I give to function "R9", it returns "BBB" also.
I need a formula to check a range of parts and bring back a value of 0 if matched or the value in another cell if it doesn't match.
Part number H-200-3
Part number H-200-3-A
Part number H-200-3-B
If I enter any of the above part numbers then cell B1 returns 0 if it is a different part number then B1 would need to match cell A1.
I have data sets on multiple worksheets within a workbook (over 70). Based on the begining of a string, I need to count all instances with that begining, and if there are fewer than 12 instances, delete the entire row.
Data set example:
In this example, I need to count each instance of rows starting with 1/* - 9/*, and delete rows as mentioned. In other data sets the string might start Gi1/*, and so on. In the following code, if I do not loop, and only test against 1 value type, and ONLY run it once, it works. As soone as I try to loop through all possibilities, or run the macro a second time, it blanks out the entire worksheet, starting at row 3.
Dim c As Long
c = Worksheets(i).Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
With Range("A3:A" & c)
If Application.WorksheetFunction.CountIf(Worksheets(i).Columns(1), "1/*") < 12 Then
. AutoFilter field:=1, Criteria1:="1/*"
.Offset(1).Resize(.Rows.Count - 1, 1).EntireRow.Delete
.AutoFilter
I have also tried to concatenate a variable with my CountIf criteria, but that fails miserably.
I have a column of data with letters in each cell, no numerical, only alpha. Now, some of those cells contain the letters "adj sub" as part of the text string in each cell. "Adj sub" is always at the beginning of the text string. As an example, a cell will look like this - "adj sub mhm". I want to delete rows whose cell description does not contain "adj sub" as part of the text in the cell.

The logic given in the website here, i tried But, it is not 100% working. It works for a few rows at the start of the database & it works for the rows at the end of the database. In between, for a few rows, even if the column values are "" it does not hide those rows.
