Suppose in cell A1 i have "20-Jun-14"
How would I get cell B2 to display just "Jun"?
I try to write the function that gets some "ref" and returns appropriate item.
For example: if I give to function "C3", it returns "AAA"
if I give to function "R18", it returns "BBB" (cause it between R15 to R26)
if I give to function "R9", it returns "BBB" also.
I have a simple sentence in cells C3, D3 and E3. The sentence in C3 is:
Find Airfare to Chicago, Airline Tickets to Chicago, and More | XXXXXXXXX®
D3 contains: XXXXXXXXX highlights outstanding airfares to Chicago from quality airlines and agencies. E3 contains my list of keywords: Chicago Flights, Cheap Flights to Chicago, Cheap Chicago airline tickets, chicago flight, chicago airfare, chicago airline ticket, chicago airline tickets
The XXXXXXXXX in the C&D cells is the client name which I had to blank out in order to post here. I wasn't sure if you guys would need to know exactly how many characters there are in each cell. In column B3 is the name of the city, in this case the city is Chicago. I have 8000 destinations so I need a formula that will take the city (or any information) in the B column and replace that in the C, D and E columns in the appropriate place. I've attached a small, representative file to demonstrate.
Is there a formula where it will find all that reads 07-06 and be able to change it to 08-06? Below are samples of formulas where I am looking to change 07-06 to 08-06 without having to go into each cell and manually changing 07-06 to 08-06:

Structure:
I have a worksheet with the cells in one of the columns having html tags inside of each cell.
The tags vary by location within the cell and there are anywhere from 0-10 tags per cell.
Column A is the text string. Inside these cells are the tags. The tags are of form

....article_alias is a variable per each string. I have columns B and C which are the aricle_alias names and article_ID's, respectively.
What I am trying to do:

How do I express that I would like my If formula to work when something 'contains', not an 'exact match'
I will have 2 columns. In column B, will be a list of invoice numbers. Now each one starts with the "job number" (Ex. 51APGC01) then a dash and unique number per invoice. (Ex. 51APGC01-01)
In column A, will be a list of Purchase Order numbers sent by the customer so we can bill. Now, sometimes we get one PO for multiple invoices, (Ex. 03, 05, 06, 07.....)
What I am looking to do, is when I get these PO's, I enter them in and then I print a report for our billing Dept. The way the output line (cell) will read, is Job Number, then each unique number: (51APGC01-03, 05, 06, 07)
There are multiple jobs and each one has it's own report, so the job number will be dynamic and defined else where in the workbook. I can define that. It's just getting the numbers after the "-" and putting them in only.
What I am looking to do is;
If cell A2 = "Closed"
then I want cells B2 and C2 to strike through its own text.
I.E.
A2= anything other than "Closed"
then B2 and C2 = Blah blah blah
but if
A2 = Closed
then B2 and C2 = Blah blah blah
I’m trying to make my life a bit easier, by adding a few macros and formulas to the spreadsheet (Everything was done completely manually before I got here!!!).
What I would like to do is take two columns, which contain a start and end time for work shifts, and colour them GREEN once I have entered a name in the Worker column (Along side the two with the time), and also to fill a cell with a Yes or a No. I’m aware of auto conditioning, and I’ve tried to have a play to get this to work, but I just can’t work it out.

I'm wondering if there is a way of linking to cells by looking up part of the link in another cell. E.g.In Sheet1, cell A1, i have some data that I want link to from Sheet2. Normally I'd do that by using "=Sheet1!A1" in the cell in Sheet2.
But I'd like to lookup the "A1" part of the link from two different cells in Sheet 2. Something like: =Sheet1!(Text from B1 in Sheet2 AND Text from A2 in Sheet2)
or: =Sheet1!(Sheet2!B1&Sheet2!A2). So that if Sheet2!B1 would contain an "A", and Sheet2!A2 would contain a "1" the resulting link would be the correct "=Sheet1!A1"
I have been working on this worksheet part of which is attached herewith. I would like excel to automatically enter Updated/Inserted in column B against Individuals' names as per the instructions given in column A. For example: As per instruction in A9, B13:B16 should show Updated. I have tried to use the nested if function, but it does not work as I want it to. Also as I am not used to macros or VBA codes, could this problem be solved with formulas?

My attempt without success is in BLUE column whereas the correct answers should be that in the RED column. Basically my problem is that if a condition is true, I want to concatenate the values of 4 cells with a space in between them.

If a user selects Yes in C1 for example I need J1 & K1 to populate with Yes (or No if they selected No from C1)
but if they have selected or later change the value in C1 to Pen or Con for J1 & K1 to remain empty.
I have 5 options that I am designating as "Allocation Methods" for a number of line items. They are numbered 1-5, but i have custom formatted them so that they have text in the formatting. They are as follows;
Allocation Method
1 - Allocation per Hard Cost
2 - Allocation PSF of Proj. or Hotel
3 - Allocation per Loan
4 - Allocation per Parking Spaces
5 - Allocation for Park
I will allocate one of the above allocation methods to every line item in an allocation column by hardcoding 1 - 5 in a cell for each line item. What i cannot figure out (or figure out if it is even possible) is how, for instance, can I type in a 1 and it have it automatically formatted per number 1 above & then if I change my mind to method 2 and type 2 it will automatically format per number 2 above. I know I can do this by creating a reference column right beside by allocation column, but I would prefer not to use that method.

I need a vba-code that inserts either “BUY” or “SELL” in row 6 (buy/sell) and insert a text (code) in row 7 depending in this information. When I push either “Buy” or “Sell”

So.. When I push the button “SELL” (already made) the action “Switch” should get “Sell” and actioncode “SO”, and “Redem1” and “Redem2” should get “Sell” and actioncode “RA” and “RN”
So.. When I push the button “BUY” (already made) the action “Switch” should get “Buy” and actioncode “SI”, and “Subsc” should get “Buy” and actioncode “SA”
(When the button is pushed I have a autofilter that “hides” either all the “sell” or all the “buy”)
IMPORTANT: There is NO range!! the list goes on, and changes so I need it to work on x amount of rows. !
I have one cell (B10) that will contain either "high", "medium", or "low". Based on one of these 3 values, I'd like to shade cell J15 a color with some white text. I got 1 of the 3 keywords working, not sure how to add in the other 2.

I want a range of cells to remain locked unless SCP is entered. I need this done for four different selections (SCP, SD, MM, PP)
So if SCP is entered, then a certain range of cells remains locked, If SD is entered then another range of cells remains locked, so on and so forth for the 4 selections.
This was what I was working with.... However, i am not sure if i need to protect or unprotect the spreadsheet before i run the macro, also am i supposed to leave all cells locked or unlocked?

I need assistance in shifting cells to left based on three (3) specific text values in column B. There are tons of data and extra lines and stuff but consistently these three (3) text values are consistently not aligned and I simply need to shift entire row 1 space to the left. I can do the long and tedious process of going through them all but is there a macro which I can play that does it instantly...

The cell "Sheet2!A1" has a formula that results in "Sheet1!B3". I would like my VBA code to read that cell and select Sheet1!B3. When using something like:
Application.GoTo Range("Sheet2!A1")
I end up of course at Sheet!2A1. I want to end up at Sheet1!B3 or wherever the cell reads at the time the code is read and operated on.
I need to write a Excel VBA (2003) code that can arrange the cells of one column based on the character length. An example is this:
Column Data before Running VBA
(Column A)

oranges
apple
Column Data after Running VBA
(Column A)

I been doing this manually by using the LEN() command in an adjacent column (Column B) and sorting Column A. based on Column B. However, I wish to do this all in a VBA code that does not rely on how many rows are in Column A. I have dozens of excel sheets with various number of rows for Column A. Therefore, the VBA code has to also figure out when the last non-empty row is in Column A. Can anyone offer their suggestions to my problem?
Cell L90 to L120 are input cells where I type " Percentage" or "Dollar Amount". I need the five cells to the right of each input cell starting two cells over, to be formatted accordingly. I read a thread similar to what I'm asking for suggesting a worksheet change macro, but I can't quite figure it out for a range of cells. Also, in case I need to add a row to my sheet before all of these cells, how can I make sure that this will still work without having to go into the code. Is this an activecell thing?

Say Sheet1 contains cells like

I'm creating a worksheet that gives a list of part numbers based on the product part code. In most cases I can use the following.
=LOOKUP(O6,{0,1,2,3,4},{"NONE (M25)","SMP-55-001","SMP-55-004","SMP-55-008","SMP-55-014"})
so this gives a part number depending on what number is placed in O6. What I need to do know is look at 2 different cells and for each combination of numbers give a different part number. so if A1 is 2 and B1 is 3 give a certain result.
