How To Automatically Change The Link To A New File
Dec 21, 2012
Basically, at month end, my company will create a new folder with the name as YYYY_MM (e.g. 2012_11). In this folder, a new file will be created as: earnings_YYYY_MM (e.g. earnings_2012_11).
What I want is to automatically update the link to the most recent file: earnings_YYYY_MM, whenever it is available. For example, next month there will be a new file earnings_2012_12 created in the new folder 2012_12, then the new file will be linked with.
Basically I want to point my Excel sheet to a bunch of external Excel files. To get data from an specific cell (in this case, cell F10) of the external file, all I have to do is this: ...
A1, B1, C1, D1, E1, I1, J1 & D3 all linked to L1 thru S1 perspectively But when I copy the highted box and paste it, A4 automatically link to L4, as well as other fields. create a macro where excel automatically generate the link A1 = L1, A4 = L2, A7 = L3 and other fields perspectively all the way til the end?
I have 2 WorkBook, Division.xls and Department.xls. The Sheet1 in the Department is linked & getting the values from Sheet1 in the Division & works fine. But if there is a change in Division workbook, its not affecting here immediately. When i close the Department.xls and open again, i can find the latest values. I thought the links to the other sheets or workbooks will be updated when i press the save button. So I used the SendKeys "^S" in the VBA. But it fails. Is there any way to mention through VBA code to update the recent values to the Department workbook from Division.
For non-blank cells in the range C11:C65536, I want to have a hyperlink automatically generated (in the same cell), using the cell value as a relative variable in the link itself. One intended use for this is to populate the range with stock symbols, and have it generate hyperlinks to the following address:
I want to be able to link spinbuttons to the cell it is located in automatically, so I can move it around or copy and then paste into other cells. I do not want to use one button to increment a selected cell.
I am very new to using excel and I need connecting the information between two sheets. I have a weekly schedule that I want to use for my employees. I want that information to automatically be moved to a daily schedule. I need to be able to see how many openers closers and mid-shifts I have and how many hours I am consuming from my budget. I want the shifts from the schedule to be moved to the daily schedules in order in chronological order (morning shifts first, then mid-day/closers). If at all possible how I would like to have the span of their shift to be highlighted in the cells on the daily schedule.I will attach what I have so far to provide as much info as possible.
The data entered in the master sheet is automatically updated in the sub worksheets through direct links created . Each sub worksheet is a branch of organization. almost 100 branches are there.
The data is entered for all the branches in the Master Sheet at different periods continuously which is to be kept as such.
For example In first day 10th, 15th branch data may be entered in master sheet first and second row, which is getting automatically updated in the respective branch worksheets. But the problem is when the data is entered for any branch( for example 6th branch) in 5th row of Master sheet, in the respective 6th branch sheet also, it is updated only in 5th row only, leaving the first four rows blank. But i want the updation in the branch sheet continuously without any blank rows.
For updation i have used the simple direct link between the cells of Master worksheet and Branch sheets.
How to get the updation in branch worksheets while entering the data in Master sheet without any blank rows.
I have fond a couple of posts to achieve this however they all require selecting the picture first. Is there a way to change the picture formula without selecting the picture?
I'm coding a userform where there are some comboxes which are popolated by values coming from Sheet2. Up to now I work it out (maybe its not elegant but it works).
Now I would like that when the user selects one combobox the values of the other comboboxes are set accordingly to the grid in Sheet2.
I've recently aquired a spreadsheet previously maintained by someone else. After my initial review the speradsheet has many links that need to be updated, which I do via Edit-Links, but there are also some links that no longer need to exist. I have reviewed all sheets and some links just no longer exist, however when I try to break the link or change the source nothing happens. I have had the original owner also check and confirm and they have the same issue. Finally I tried copying all the tabs into a new workbook, but the link shows up again.
I have a periodic task which involves moving some sheets from an existing workbook and presenting it in a new workbook. There are some diagram that I move as well from the worksheet. However, I also move the source data for the diagrams into the new workbook as well. Everytime I do this I need to change the source data to the new worksheet which is quite tiresome. Is there a smart hack to actually point the diagram source data to the new workbook?
linking a CommandButton to another File. I made a CommandButton but would now like to know how to write the Macro to make that Button, when clicked, bring me to a file saved in Excel.
I have some code that looks at the part # in column D and then goes out to the D drive to drawings (.pdf files) and creates a hyperlink.
The problem is that it is only creating a link to the .pdf file and not to folders. I need a hyperlink to the folder so when it is clicked the open folder pops up and shows the multiple files associated with that part.
Link should be the same regardless of file or folder, no? As long as the name matches link should be made, correct?
E.g. 123-100.pdf (column D part #) links to 123-100.pdf file on CD 456-200 (folder name in column D) no link created to folder named 456-200 on CD.
What is the script in order for me to link a MS Word file to excel. What I intend to do is to customise the commandbutton, so that once a user click on it, the linked MS Word file (stored in the local drive) will pop-up and he/she can do the necessary amendments to the file?
I have a 'master' worksheet, which contains a list of active workbooks. Each row on the master contains several data elements from each of the active workbooks:
File#, Date, Status, Customer, Etc.
This is accomplished by copying a row of data in the active workbook and pasting as a link on the master. When an active workbook data element is changed (date, or status, for example), the link on the master changes as well. Then the active workbook is closed until needed again. The linked data on the master allows for an overview of active files, and for sorting based on certain criteria, such as the next date to action the file.
What I now wish to do is eliminate the process of copying & pasting; this would be done, in theory, by putting a formula in each cell of the master that references a variable: the file number, located in column A.
Thus, where the pasted link formula reads: ='C:Active Files[4545.xls]Home'!$O$1 The desired theoretical formula would read: ='"'C:Active Files["&$A25&".xls]Home'!$O$1"
I have created a PPT which is linked with my excel data and charts. Now I have to copy it at different location (Both PPT and excel), But due to change in path; my PPT is not updating with latest data points and charts. I know, I can change link using edit link.
My PPT is having around 50+ link. some VBA code which can replace old path using the current path.
I am trying to automatically reference the contents of another file into my main file. Basically I have one schedule that I've automatically generated in AutoCAD, and another formatted template. The AutoCAD schedule is completely unformated.
I want to include a link to the AutoCAD scheule (a *.CSV file) on my main spreadsheet and have the autoCAD schedule populate my template. I've done some reading, primarily on here, and I think I need to use either the INDIRECT() or the INDEX() function.
I can get INDIRECT() to work, but it's fairly repetitive (not overly important, but still.....). More importantly, though, the schedule file has to be open, which I would like to avoid if possible. INDEX(), I just can't figure out how to work!
I presently have a macro that, when run, takes to conents of C4 and C6 and saves a new version of the file being worked on into a folder on my desktop. I love the macro with the exception of one part: I don't want to be prompted to overwrite the file if it already exists. How can I change this macro so that, when pressed, it overwrites the file without prompting the user and waiting for their answer?
I have a "cost.csv" file that contains the cost of the toys. The cost is show in $ with two decimal places i.e. $0.75
I created a new MS Excel 2010 workbook file named as "customers.xlsx" that has four columns i.e. Item, Cost, Order, [Total Amount] columns. I used the paste link command and the Cost column data is linked with the cost column in "cost.csv" file.
When I write order quantity in the order column and then try to use the following expression in [Total Amount] column i.e. "Cost * Order" then I received error due to following reason i.e. "Cost is a text value and Order is a numeric value and excel is unable to evaluate the expression." I have done it by first remove the $ sign from cost using RIGHT and LEN FUNCTIONS.
Now I want to change the format of "Cost" column i.e. I want to show the cost in Euro but not in $. Here I am stuck as I am trying to change the format of the Cost linked cell but unable to change it either I applied the new format, the text remains shown $0.75?
Is this the problem as data is coming from .csv file? If it is then how I can accomplish the task?
I'm sure this is an easy one but it's unfortunately beyond me. I have a update links formula in which I would like for it to update with the name of the file being in a cell. Example:
The file name is Week20.xls
Cell A1 has the value of Week20.xls using a formula (="Week" & A2 & ".xls")
Currently I have it by looking at the actual file location like this: ='C:Documents and SettingsMy DocumentsWeekly Sales6 Sales Comparisons[Week20.xls]Daily Comparisons'!$I$4
But rather then pointing directly to the file path I want it to update by the name of the file in A1. So I'm sure its something as simple as replacing [Week20.xls] with some formula but I don't know what that one is.
I have a page that is protected so formulas are not changed mistakenly, and have check boxes on the paged that link to cells and display True of False based on the checking of the box or not. If I leave the page unprotected I risk the True or False being changed. Is there a lay to protect those cell from the user but still change when the box is checked or not. The checkboxes are Form Control type.
