Index Function (isolate One Number At A Time And Evaluate Usage)
Mar 27, 2009
The value that is returned is off by 2 rows everytime. When I evaluate the formula, it shows the correct row just before the indexing function does it's thing.
I have a cell phone bill for 20 or so phones and am trying to isolate one number at a time and evaluate usage. The first sheet is my data, the second is sheet ("Breakdown") is where I enter the number in A2 that I want to look at. When I do, it misses the first 2 rows and picks up 2 extra from the following phone number.

I have a worksheet which contains START TIME in column A, then TIME USAGE in column B and END TIME in column C. User enters start time, followed by the number of time usage in minutes, how could i possibly display the end time automatically in this scenario? how do you add the entered time usage to the start time to display the end time? Say if I enter 1:00 AM at start time and 00:15 minutes on time usage, how can 1:15 AM be displayed on the end time automatically?

I have a database with over 100 products listed across the first row.
Column a has a list of over 500 projects. Across each project various columns are marked with a number depending on how many of each products are being used on that project.
For Example
A B C D E etc.
Products --> X Y Z AA
Proj 1 2 3
Proj 2 1 4 5
Proj 3 2 4
etc.
I want to be able to create a report for any given product.
The report could look like,
Product Z
Proj 1 3
Proj 3 2
So I need to lookup the product code across row 1 and determine the column number and then INDEX down that column and find all non blank cells and read the project names from column A.
I am familiar with formulas with INDEX and V/H LOOKUP functions. I am not very good with VBA codes.

I need a sum function in A1 of a "Total"-sheet that totals cell A1 in every sheet with a certain color on the tab. The number of sheets can vary from time to time.
Any idea about a dynamic sum function that will do this, in combination with VBA?

(scroll down for example) I have 142 countries and 6 numbers beside each country starting from Column A, Cell 2 (A2) . I want to seperate the numbers into columns B,C,D,E,F,G
The formula I thought to usein B2 was =Right(A2,11) to give me the 3 next to Afghanistan in the ELICOS Column (B2) , but this gives me all the numbers
Question is How do I seperate each number so each one sits in the right column??

The problem I have is I have a cell that says "170.51CR" and I want to extract the number (to perform an operation) without changing the cell.
The reason why is that data is from a website which updates so I can't adjust it.
Eg if I have "170.51CR" in cell B3 and I want to times the number by another cell When I times that value it return an error so I just want to operate the function on the 170.51

In column A, one cell contains "USLH : N NAD: # of Claims: 112".
In B1 I have this formula:
=RIGHT(INDEX(Data!$A$1:$A$32,MATCH("*# of Claims:*",Data!$A$1:$A$32,0)))
The result is "2". How can I fix it so that it returns all three digits, rather than just the last digit?
The number at the end of the range will change from 0 to 999.

I cant figure out why this "evaluate" function is not working as I expected. I have number/text from $A$1 to $A$5 to try and learn how to use this function but have not had any luck. I need to learn how to use it properly so I can use a for loop to change multiple check boxes on a user form that I am trying to make.

I have been given a project to develop a spreadsheet using excel that will take data that is for a whole month, and evaluate by DAY to see if the same doctor was listed as attending two patients in surgery at the same time. If the Doctor's name is the same for two patients within the same timewindow for a certain day, a code is applied to EACH RECORD that the doctor was attending in the code field. If there was NO DUPLICATE patient, a different code is applied in the code field.
The tricky thing about this is:
1) Number of records will vary month-to-month
2) There could be 1-xx patient records where the same doctor is listed and there is overlapping time in the SAME DAY OF THE MONTH.
3) The code applied to multiple patients in the code field applies even if the minutes of overlap = 1 minute.
4) Start/End times and length of the patient visits will vary. (Example - Dr. Jones has two patients on the 15th of the month. The start time for patient 1 is 9:00am and ends at 10:15am. The second patient's start time is 9:30am and end time of 11:00am. Under this situation, the multiple patient code would apply)
Does anyone have any experience evaluating by date, then within a time-window to check for record overlap (doctor name in this case)? There could be 200-1500 records per month, and 100/day to evaluate for overlapping.

I understand that the SumProduct doesn't have the same capabilities in VBA as it does in worksheet formulas. I am trying to construct it in an evaluate statement in VBA but the problem is I am using it in a userform, so the conditionals are passed from two combo boxes. Here is the worksheet formula
Code:
=SUMPRODUCT((Table1[Home]=C3)*(Table1[Away]=M3)*(Table1[Goals (H)]>Table1[Goals (A)]))
The values C3 and M3 refer to a cell known as "Home" & "Away". It's comparing to the two teams selected to a table with game stats to show wins and losses. The user form has a combo box list with those teams. Combo Box 1 passes to a variable known as hTeam and Combo Box 2 passes to a variable known as aTeam. I need those values passed through to C3 and M3. Here's what I constructed but get a type mismatch
Code:
Evaluate("=SUMPRODUCT((Table1[Home]=" & chr(34) & hTeam & chr(34) & ")*(Table1[Away]
=" & chr(34) & aTeam & chr(34) & ")*(Table1[Goals(H)]>Table1[Goals(A)]))")

Is there any way to 'evaluate' a dotted number (similar to an IPv4
address but not just those) using standard worksheet formulae (ie no
UDFs, VBA, or ATP functions)?
To make it a little more complicated, I need to be able to evaluate
not just IP addresses (although that would be a use) but also a
'number' such as 9.0.2 compared to 8.7.5 so that they can be sorted
and / or compared.

I was hoping that my formula would give me the count number based on the Maximum time (latest time) and the Name field...My result is a 0 instead of 62 (the correct answer).
=SUM((Download!$H$2:$H$10=A4)*(Download!$D$2:$D$10=MAX(IF(Download!$H$2:$H$10=$A4,Download!$D$2:$D$1 0)))*Download!$I$2:$I$10)
Would a Index/Match/MAX function be more efficient?

I'm trying to insert a random number into the unprotected cells on a worksheet depending on the type of number formatting in the cell. There are 4 basic cases:
Number formatted as percentNumber Formated general with no decimal placesNumber formatted general with two decimal placesNumber formatted in thousands
The code below only contains three criteria, I was trying to get that to work first....Based on this criteria I want to insert a random number of an appropriate size. Please find the vba below.
Sum randomnbr()
Dim F as String
For Each c In ActiveSheet.Range("A1:AK2500")
F = c.numberformat
If c.Locked = False And IsNumeric(c.Value) = True And c.EntireRow.Hidden = False And c.EntireColumn.Hidden = False Then
If F Like "*#,##0*" Then
c.Value = Round(Rnd, 0) * 1000000
If F Like "*%*" Then
c.Value = Round(Rnd, 2)
Else: c.Value = Round(Rnd, 2) * 1000
End If
End Sub

I’m trying to use the SUMIFS function in Excel 2007 to evaluate the following formula:
{=SUMIFS(range to sum, range to evaluate, evaluation criterion)}
The range to sum is A1:A10, the range (dates) to evaluate are in B1:B10, and the evaluation criterion is that the date is before 31/10/1999.
So my formula looks like this:
{=SUMIFS(A1:A10,B1:B10,”<31/10/1999”)}
This works fine, but how do I refer the 3rd argument in the function to a date in a particular cell rather than typing in the date specifically?

let me start by saying that I know an example workbook would be useful here, but the part I'm struggling with is the [managementroster.xlsm] file, and there is A. no way I can release it to the internets and B. its so huge/complicated I couldn't even begin to reproduce a portion of it, scrubbed of data, and hope to maintain its functionality in a meaningful manner.
[Code]....
This formula checks a staff number on this spreadsheet, and then goes and looks at the staff number on the roster. Once found, it returns that staff members roster, but changes any manager codes in the MRC list to Mgr, and changes all other roster codes to Free.
I now need this formula, before altering roster codes to Mgr or Free, to only return codes that are a match for another table (or after really. I don't particularly care, so long as only codes are shown that match data from another table). I think an index/match function would do the trick, but this forumula is already at the edge of my excel ability, nesting another function within it is completey beyond me. The relevant cells for the index/match function would be:
This first Match function targets the column. $E3 is the date required, $BA$1:$DN$1 is the range the dates are entered in
Match: Lookup value = $E3
Lookup array = '[ManagementRoster.xlsm]Vacancies!'$BA$1:$DN$1
match type = 0
This second Match function targets the row. $A$4 is the department name, $B$434:$B$452 is the range where all departments are entered
Match: Lookup value = $A$4
Lookup Array = '[ManagementRoster.xlsm]Vacancies!'$B$434:$B$452
match type = 0
Index: array = $BA$434:$DN$452
So I think my final function is
[Code] .....
But I have absolutely NO idea where it would fit within my first formula, or how to code it so that my original formula only reproduces results that are found in both sheets, or anything.

I tried with the VLookup, and HLookup and neither one worked for me. I have a reference table with all the data, and then input sheet where I want to bring this data by using one of the excel function. ie. When I enter office name on the top of the input page, I would like the Tax ID # in cell C3 to fill in using the excel function from the data on the reference tab. Same with cell C14 & C15. see attached for an example.

I've been working on a payroll program for my small biz. I'm close to done BUT...When I use the Index Match function in a cell it works great. However I need to copy it down a column to work for pay periods going forward. When I copy it down of course it puts zeros or N/A.
Columns:
Gross Fed FICA Medicare State Net
F G H I J K
Gross is user input. FICA Medicare State and Net are simply calculated on the sheet. But to get Fed Income tax I use the Index Match function and it works perfectly. The rows increment properly with each new user input.
My question: Fed Income tax is dependent on what the Gross is in order to look up the tables with the Index Match function. How do I get the result of the function into column G? Can I increment up Column G and ignore the zeros that dragging the function down G creates?

After 1pm I would like the formula to be

I have several records that I am doing a lookup through. Most records have the same "work order number". As you can see on the attached sheet, my lookup function returns all the work order numbers that match my criteria.
What I need is to only return the first instance of the work order number then return the next unique work order number that meets my criteria.

I am working on a spreadsheet which contains a number of reference data sheets (named “Reference data 2009”, “Reference data 2010” etc). As their names suggest, these sheets contain reference data applicable to the particular year. This reference data is used to perform various calculations in a “Calculations” sheet.
On the “Calculations” sheet, the user specifies the year for which they wish to perform calculations. At present, I am using the volatile INDIRECT function to perform various HLOOKUP calculations along the following lines:
=IF(D15>=HLOOKUP('Detailed net pay calculations'!D16, INDIRECT("'Reference data" & 'Detailed method'!$C$2 & 'Detailed net pay calculations'!D1 & "'!$B$43:$Y$52"), 4, FALSE), “Do something”, “Do something else”)
The reason I'm using the INDIRECT function is to identify the sheet with the appropriate year (hence "Reference data"&'Detailed method'!$C$2&'Detailed net pay calculations'!D1 which could be interpreted by Excel as "'Reference data 2009NEW" or "'Reference data 2010", depending on whether there's text in cell D1).
My query
The function I'm using is working perfectly fine but I am wondering if it is possible to replace the INDIRECT function (in red) with INDEX or another non-volatile function in order to reduce the performance impact (I have a fairly large number of these types of functions).
