I have a workbook that I use as a master and only 2 people should be allowed to change it. It is locked by a password and if opened by anyone than all others can only see as read-only. What I need to learn how to do is have that master version with its own password and then maybe a copy or shortcut that is read only with its own password and updated (linking??) as changes are made to the master version.
View 9 RepliesAt our small firm, each staff member keeps a small excel spread sheet on the network that contains their "work in progress." This spreadsheet is roughly six columns wide and roughly twenty lines long.
What I am attempting to do is have one "master" spreadsheet with a tab for each staff member that links their "work in progress" so that partners and managers can easily see how much work each of the fifteen or so staff members have.
I can create fifteen different tabs and fifteen different files on the network and link =[Staff1.xlsx]Sheet1!$A$1:$G$25 =[Staff2.xlsx]Sheet1!$A$1:$G$25 =[Staff3.xlsx]Sheet1!$A$1:$G$25 and so on.
If I make a change to the layout of the work in progress sheet, I have to delete and copy the file fifteen times, then go back through and re-link fifteen tabs to fifteen workbooks in order to keep it uniform.
I am tracking my sales interactions and am trying to link cells so when I update on one sheet it updates my last "customer touch" on a master sheet. Current formula-
On "sheet1" I selected a cell and used this formula... =sheet2!$b$7
The problem is that I want to keep a history of what was in that sheet 2 B7 cell so i insert a row (making B7 move down and become B8) and enter new info into the new b7. if I go back to sheet1 the formula in the selected cell becomes =sheet2!$b$8 I want it to stay to =sheet2!$b$7 no matter what I do... insert rows, delete rows etc...
in short what i am trying to do is have a cell in sheet1 show my last interaction with the customer and keep a history of in sheet2-infiniti.... with the caveat that my last interaction on sheet 2 etc... is listed first (thus the insert row)
A simple one for you, but again my Google skills seem lacking. This must be common practice but until one knows the key combination...
I have created a summary sheet with lots of formulas which analyse other sheets in a workbook. I want to copy this summary sheet to a seperate workbook to use as a template.
Of course, the copying process always links the new (template) sheet to the original workbook it was copied from. How does one copy without forging this link? All I want are the formulas copied across totally unchanged; I really *don't* want to manually edit 50 or so formulas!
I have a database (attached) that has data entered into the "Progression" sheet. This data is continually updated, and once each row has a section date, I have a macro that moves the data from "Progression" to the "Complete" sheet (and from there, into a specific month sheet). I AM REALLY CONCERNED with data accidentally getting deleted (especially when/after getting moved to "Complete"). I know that you can link cell values from one worksheet to another, but since my data is continually changing in the Progression and Complete sheets, the linkage wouldn't maintain the correct cell values from day to day. Is there a better approach to creating "backup" data in excel than this linkage option? Preferably something that runs in the background without my input?
An option could be that I move my data from Progression into both the Complete sheet and then a hidden "Master" sheet when I run the macro. If I chose that route, how would I modify my coding to include transferring to the Master sheet as well?
Lastly, a simple linkage between the Master sheet and another sheet in a second workbook should be sufficient as a backup method?
I have a site that sells over 5000 products.
I have two sheets.
One is a Master which has all of the following information in each column.
Product ID = A, Product Name=B, Price=C, Category=D ,Product Description =E,
The other sheet Is a updated product description.
Now I want to Be able to copy and add the new descriptions into the Master but not sure how to add them so they will fall into the proper spot according to the Product ID... There are not descriptions in the Update sheet for all the Product IDs in the Master.
I have many excel file and I will need to gather all the data of those multiple excel into 1 single excel as per condition.
But the data that I want to get from all the excel that contains data are the same. All the excel file are in a folder, so it will loop the excel file in that folder chosen by the user.
Example:
Excel 1:
I need to get the cell range: RIGHT(Range("B9"),7) and paste into A1 of the master excel.
Then scan on the column D till last row, and copy the data from last row of D to B1 of the master excel.
Then scan on the column AA till last row and copy the data from the last row of AA to C1 of the master excel.
Then loop for the next excel file and do the same but add the information to master excel in row 2 and on.
I am responsible for compiling a compilation of my company’s data from each source to a Master workbook, I need a macro that can be run from each divisions workbook (all are identical apart from the name and date) that will copy entire rows from 3 tabs into the same tabs on my master workbook.

I am looking for some code that will take a workbook (that has multiple sheets in it), and for each sheet copy it's content over to a newly created sheet called MASTER. I also want to take the sheet name that is being copied from and place that in column A in the MASTER sheet.

Using a Command button into my Master file, I'm looking for a code that give me an option to select an existing file that will have a variable name & path, open it and then copy all worksheets contained within it, into my Master workbook. Then close the selected file on completion.
Not sure if it's important but some of the copied worksheet names will contain copies. e.g. Apples, Apples (2), Pears, Pears (2). etc.
I have 600+ variations of the same workbook. Contained within each workbook is a worksheet, from which I need to copy and paste a range of cells into one "master" workbook. transfer data from several sheets to a master data sheet. The problem I am having now is there are couple blank cells. My code just ignore the blank cells on the master data sheet and paste next to the last cell with content. For example I attached a test excel. with my code. I have a project to compare the months from January 2014 through to June 2014. What I am needing to do is Compare each month's sheet with June's sheet (Jun14) and if a row doesn't exist in Jun14 sheet then copy it to a new sheet. I need to keep the months seperate from each other so every time it compares a sheet to Jun14 it will copy the data that it doesn't see in Jun14 to a new sheet.

I have a workbook with 8 tabs and one master tab. The 8 tabs are where the user enters information and the master sheet contains all employees from the 8 tabs. All tabs, including the master, have the same columns in the same order. How can I automatically have the information populate to the master tab as information is changed on the tab groups? I had a vlookup on the master sheet going through all of the sheets however it slowed my report down tremendously and caused too much lag.

I'm trying to create a macro that will go to each worksheet and gather the information on one line in a master sheet. Then go to the next work sheet and do the same but return the data for that on the next row. And continue to do so until all the worksheets have returned data.
So far I have recorded the macro for the first sheet. How do I get it to now go to the next sheet, do the same thing, but return the data on the next line so it doesn't over write the data from the first sheet?
I have a report(Input report) with multiple sheets with different worksheet names.
Now I have to select 2nd worksheet of input report and copy a certain range values and paste in the other workbook(output) . From the same sheet 3 diffrent values I will copy and paste in other work book.

I have multiple excel files from which I would like to copy specific ranges to a master file. The row should add up to the previous rows. From this side I have no problems things work fine. The problem is to copy the header which remains the same data to the top of the master file. Currently the macro I use overwrite the first line of the master file. So I loose the date from one of the excel files.

Objective: use VB to copy the first sheet (tab) from every Excel file in a specific folder to a new sheet/tab (for each) in a master spreadsheet. I will then aggregate this data into a summary table.
Following the advice of an old thread (Access: VBA combining multiple excel files to 1 new sheet), one time for each file in the folder. So with three excel files in the folder, I get 3 new tabs in my master spreadsheet but all are copies of the first tab in the master spreadsheet.
I'm wondering if maybe the code, which was in a post from 5 years ago, needs to be "modernized" for Excel 2007. Thanks for any help.
