# Lookup A Value Based On A Conditional Rank

Oct 25, 2007

I need to return the project codes for the project with the top 5 sales volumes within each Region for each product. If say, I have the following relevant columns (Project, ProdCode, Region, Sales) in columns A:D

## Conditional Rank Based On Whether A Criteria Cell Includes A Specific Text String

May 8, 2009

I'm racking my brains as to how I can structure a formula to conditionally rank a value in an array against only those values in the array whose corresponding criteria cell includes a specific letter.

So for example I have a list of 12 values, say 126; 239; 0; 171; 162; 157; 130; 199; 122; 153; 0; 15.
Each of those values corresponds to a heading, say: CDE; DFE; FGE; DFE; ERD; DEA; BDF; DFB; CDE; CEF; CAB; FAB. As you will note some of the headings may or may not be the same and may or may not include the same letters in different orders.

How can I write a formula that ranks in ascending order a given value drawn from the above list (which will be in another cell but which in this case is, let's say, the first value: 126) only against those values whose heading includes a specific character, for example the character C (the character in question will vary and be defined in a specific cell).

As an added complication I need the ranking calculation to exclude any zero values. So in the above example what the formula needs to do is rank the value 126 against a sub-set of the whole array comprising only the values 126; 122; 153; 0.

The answer I need is 2 because, discounting the zero value, 126 is the second highest value.

## Conditional Formatting Based On Lookup

Apr 7, 2009

Is there a way to specify conditional formatting using an Hlookup function? I want to format a cell with a specified color based on a horizontal lookup (see attached).

## Rank Based On Score

Feb 23, 2010

I have a workbook with two tabs: Results (containing exam results) and Percentile (containing percentile rankings based on scores). There are different rankings for different exams.

I need the percentile ranking returned (on the Results tab) based on the exam result for each student. e.g. for exam M111 a score of 36 would return a ranking of 95, a score of 18 would return a ranking of 35, etc. I've attached a sample workbook.

## Rank Based Upon Two Criteria?

Oct 14, 2011

Sheet1 *BMNO1GenderAge GroupTotalRank2Male6-72103*3Male6-71437*4Female6-71294*

I will have 200+ records similar to the above. I would like a formula that ranks the totals. The Males in the 6-7 Age Group would be in 1 Ranking while the Females in the 6-7 Age Group would be in another.

I prefer a formula over a macro. My original thought was =rank(n2,offset(?,?,?,?,?),1) but alas I'm missing something.

## How To Rank Based On Text In Another Cell

Dec 12, 2013

how to rank values in one column based on criteria in another column?

For example: How do I rank Cells in Column A that only contain the text "AL" in column B?

COL...A....B
ROW
1......5....NL
2......6....AL
3......7....AL
4......8....NL

## Sort Names Based On Rank.

Feb 12, 2009

See the attached spreadsheet. I have people's names in cells A2:A5. These names have a rank value in cells B2:B5. What I would like to do is create a formula that sorts/orders the names in cells A2:A5 according to the rank in cells B2:B5. The results I would like to achieve are shown in A8:A11. I am aware of the "Sort" function in the "Data" drop down menu, but need to leave cells A1:B5 as they are.

## Calculate Rank Based On Criteria

May 20, 2007

I want to calculate the sales rank of the customer whose CUSTOMERID is equal to my ID? Note that sales rank is what position the salesperson is in terms of DOLLAR VALUE OF SALES.

Just a bit stuck on this. How do I calculate the rank? Is it a If statement or a Vlookup Question?

The spreadsheet can be found here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5D0YCHIG (It's too big to be uploaded to the forum hosting).

## Formula That Will Rank Based On Highest Data

Mar 12, 2014

I am building a football stat database which I am looking to put in an individual sheet which will search the other 20 sheets, collate the information and then display a top 5 ranking in each area. For example, this is our setup for the data:

Screenshot 2014-03-12 21.56.18.jpg

So what I want to to is have a separate sheet which will have a section for say over 1.5 goals %. The formula would go and retrieve all of the % results for each individual team. Then it would rank the 5 best teams and display the team name in the first cell and the % in the other cell.

## VLookup :: Data Based On Material Rank

Oct 29, 2009

I need to sort the material data based on the material rank but i can't use the 'sort/filter' function. Therefore, I used the VLOOPUP function. For some reason the vlookup formula is not working could you let me know what is the problem? see attchment.

## Rank Based On Date Value And VLookup From Several Sheets

Jan 24, 2014

I have date data in Column O, which appears like. At any given point in time, i would have such date data for 5 to 10 days, and I want to just assign 1 to first date, and next date to 2 and so on.

What formula (can i use RANK formula, and how) I can use to get the desired result. SEcond part of the query may require macro, so will ask later.

Basic Data Desired Output

## Rank Based On Criteria And Exclude Duplicates

Mar 20, 2014

I have a large spreadsheet where I've successfully ranked a large series of data based on revenue, using product classification as a criteria & summarising this on another page with the top 20 products. The problem I'm having is that within certain criteria's I have some products with the exact same revenue figure, so if the 2nd ranked product within classification "C" for example has revenue of \$100, & there's another product within the same classification also with \$100 of revenue, on my top 20 report I have results for the 1st & 2nd ranked product, but a blank for the third product & then results again for the fourth

The formula I'm using is

=IF(Y12="NA",0,SUMPRODUCT(--(Y12=\$Y\$12:\$Y\$6000),--(AC12

## Dynamically Rank Items Based On Two Criteria’s

Jan 3, 2007

I need to have excel dynamically rank items based on two criteria’s (category and sales).

For Example:
I have a list of items with its category in column A, column B has the sales information. I need to rank the items by category and sales, the data is not sorted and I cannot use a macros/VB.

## Rank A List Of Teams Based On Their Win/loss Record

Oct 11, 2009

I want to rank a list of teams based on their win/loss record. The list is something as follows.

Team A0-3
Team B0-2
Team C2-0
Team D1-2
Team E2-1
Team F2-1
Team G0-2
Team H3-0
Team I1-1
Team J1-1
Team K2-1

The column with the actual score contains the formula, =INDEX('2009'!\$C\$3:\$BL\$3,MATCH(\$A4,'2009'!\$B\$1:\$BJ\$1,0)). I would like to rank the list to something like,

Team H3-01
Team C2-02
Team E2-13
Team F2-13
Team K2-13
Team I1-16
Team J1-16
Team D1-27
Team B0-29
Team G0-210
Team A0-311

## IF Statement - Calculate Due Dates Based On Assigned Rank

Aug 1, 2014

I am using the following formula to calculate due dates based on the rank i assign an issue.

Note: a similar formula is used for the due date of section one, but if it is not complete, i do not want this formula to kick in a determine the due date for section 2. The formula itself is working fine, but is giving a 'due date' of 1/30/1900. I was wondering if there is a way to not display anything if it has no number to calculate from.

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("S",D11)),F11+30,IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("B",D11)),F11+30,
IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("A",D11)),F11+30,IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("QNM",D11)),F11+30,""))))

## Using Index & Match (rank Stores Based On A Quantity Of Run Outs They Have)

Sep 21, 2009

I am trying to rank stores based on a quantity of run outs they have. I have a list of stores in order with the run out quantities. I use the large function to figure out the rank but when you have two stores with the same quantity it only finds the first on in the list.

## Formula To Rank Text Objects Based On Numbers, Interesting Read

Dec 30, 2008

I'm attempting to create a formula that will find the name associated with a value, and return that name on the same column as that value in a later equation.

OK OK to illustrate it a little better:

There are three people: Bill, Ted, and Andy. Each one is ranked in Points, so my table looks like this:

A B

1 Bill 10
2 Ted 20
3 Andy 30

Later on, I want to rank the individuals based on their score, using a formula. Right now, I can rank the scores based using LARGE(B1:B3,1), then LARGE(B1:B3,2), and lastly LARGE(B1:B3,3). That ranks the numbers in descending columns. However, I want the information to automatically populate the name associated with that particular point total. So, I want the system to know that B1 is Bill's score, and rank it, in descending order, later on in the spreadsheet, with Bill's name.

## Sum Year To Date Based On Month Chosen, Rank Values & Compare Rankings

Dec 22, 2008

1. I would like to be able to select a month from a drop down ( cell C4), and for Column B ('Cumulative Performance') to reflect the sum for each name between Jan and the month selected.

2. In Column D I would like to rank the relative position of the sum total; such that if I selected 'Dec', John would display '13' in D7, Anne '3' etc.

3. In Column E I would like to show by way of a coloured arrow (or even a smilie icon) the relative change in ranking of the sum totals evaluated for my chosen month with those calculated up until the previous month (e.g. for Anne, if I select June, the Jan to June total is 36 (rank 2 in the June total's), the May to Jan total for Anne is 32 (rank 1), therefore her relative rank movement between the June and May cumulatives moves down and cell E8 would show a red-down arrow (amber horizontal for no change and green up-arrow for an improvement in rank).

## Conditional Formatting Based On Another Cell Conditional Format

Mar 20, 2013

Is it possible to change the format of cell AI3 based on the format of cell C3 and D3? I have C3 and D3 set to turn red based on what is in cell C2 and D2. I would like the following done:

If AI3=C3 & C3 is red, format AI3 blue
If AI3=D3 & D3 is red, format AI3 blue
Otherwise, leave AI3 unformatted.

Possible???

## Conditional Lookup And Selection

Feb 2, 2009

I am using excell for our estimating sheets. I am trying to automate some of the processes to ensure there are less mistakes.

I would like to automate the process so that if a number is put into the quantity column then certain cells from that row are copied to a different sheet.

I just dont know how to do it? Do I use Macros or Formulas?

## Set Up Conditional Format Using Two Way Lookup?

Jul 12, 2012

I'm trying to set up a conditional format using a two way lookup. The chart is 15 colums across and perhaps 500 down. Index / Match functions do find the correct value - BUT - the challenge is there ARE duplicate values in either the column or row that are "all" getting highlighted with the conditional format (color a cell).

## Rank A List Then Re-rank The List While Excluding Certain (or By Criteria) Items

## IF(AND Function Using LOOKUP For Conditional Values

Dec 3, 2013

I'm new to excel and am attempting to use an IF(AND function that requires the use of two LOOKUP tables for the IF conditions, I have been unable so far to generate the answer I'm looking for.

I have a set of data in two columns, column A which has a series of dates from 1/09/2013 - 30/09/2013 (multiple for each date), and column F which has a series of 4 digit numbers (employee numbers). I also have two columns where I can enter in values for LOOKUP tables, one column for dates (O2:O4) and another for employee numbers (Q2:Q17).

What I am trying to achieve is a True/False answer in a final column for IF A2 = value from column (table) O2:O4, AND F2 = value from column (table) Q2:Q17. For the querry to be true the values in column A and column F must meet both conditions, be from a date in column O2:O4 and also be an employee from column Q2:Q17

=IF(AND(A2=LOOKUP(A2,O2:O4),F2=LOOKUP(F2,Q2:Q17),"Yes","No")

Currently I get a #NA error and I know its due to my formula not being anywhere near correct, as far as I can tell it's a result of the LOOKUP part of the formula I'm attempting to create, as it generates a #NA area when the data does not meet the criteria in the columns (tables), I have attempted to include a ISNA section to the formula to alter the result if the data does not meet the two conditions but when applied to the whole data set it only responds with a False answer even if the data meets both conditions.

## Lookup Until Conditional Match Then Return Last Value In Row

Mar 17, 2009

I am trying to modify this formula to do one more thing, but I can't quite figure out how to do it. I have part 1 and 2, but part 3 is giving me a very hard time. The formula is not working correctly. It is supposed to do several things.

Do an HLookup for a row and return the last value in the row.If there is no value (blank), the value should be "Incomplete."If HLookup finds a value of "Fail," it should look to see if there is a value of "Pass" BEFORE (to the left of) "Fail." If this exists, then it should return a value of "OK."

Here is what I have so far....

## Conditional Lookup, IF & Match Function

Apr 22, 2008

Data for once source
Column A shipping container numbers (alpha & numerical)
Column B the container size code
Column C relevant date of arrival

Data from another source
Column D shipping container numbers (alpha & numerical)
Column E the container size code
Column F relevant date of shipment

What I want is:
If Column A containers match with Column B containers Then in Column G the containers that matched and Column H the container size code
Column I the date of arrival
Column J the date of shipment

Vlookup seem to be an answer, but can’t get it to work. I am not good in VB, so may be formulas would be better Named range and IF & Match FORMULA may be?!! The list will be approximately 20,000 numbers long. Have attached the sample file.

## Conditional Formatting On MATCH / LOOKUP Function?

Mar 6, 2012

I have an "actual build" worksheet, which allows the user to select which materials were used, material properties (e.g. material grade etc.), including its corresponding length. The user can enter all these in manually, or select the material name from a pre-defined list (Reference worksheet contains this information), and then the associated properties are automatic lookups from the Reference worksheet.

So all this is fine / completed, and the LOOKUP returns its theoretical length from the reference table. However, its actual material lengths will almost never match the theoretical length, so what I want to happen is for a conditional format to highlight the cell, to notify the user that they need to enter a manual value. The auto-looked up length is still useful a proposed build on the worksheet, but having it highlighted to ensure it is manually entered later is the objective.

The other thing is it can't just check if it's a formula, it has to check if it is a formula with a MATCH/LOOKUP function. E.g. it needs to be unhighlighted if someone has a basic formula, ie = 2*0.42 if there two of the item etc..

Hence, I was thinking of having a conditional formula that "format only cells that contain" and then format only cells with "specific text" and "containing" and "MATCH(" text function, however this doesn't seem to work.

Length cell formula:

=OFFSET('Reference- Materials'!\$N\$5, MATCH(\$BO32, Materials_Item_Number, 0), 0) * \$AH32

## Conditional Lookup (two Criteria) And Return Value Of Different Column

Apr 13, 2012

I recently learned how to count cells in a range based on the value from another column (excel 2007) How to count cells in a range based on the value from another column but now how I can go about returning a value from another column that matches the conditional counting. For example in the table below I'm first wanting to find the rows matching "chr15" from column A that also have a value from column B that is greater than 25,000 and less than 3,000,000. But what it I wanted to instead report the corresponding values in column C? I've played with VLOOKUP to no avail but I'm not sure if that's the right line of thinking. The answer would be the values in bold.

A B C
1 chr2 12008 AA
2 chr2 149700 BB
3 chr15 51 CC
4 chr15 5624 DD

## Conditional Formatting Lookup To Highlight 1st Match Only

Mar 4, 2008

The Problem: There is data in a step chart from left to right. On a separate step chart, Conditional formatting is set to lookup values from the first step chart and highlight non empty cells in the row. The formatting should only format the first non empty cell from left to right in the row. After formatting the first non zero value in the time line the formatting should cease. Note: the conditional formatting value and the value of the cell being formatted are not the same in either value or time but are related. The formatting is to illustrate the relation

Current Formatting formula:

=VLOOKUP(\$B395,\$B\$5:\$DB\$211,K\$242,0)

Syntax for Vlookup(Lookup_Value,Table_array,Column_index_num,Range_Lookup)

## Conditional LOOKUP: Automatic Report To Be Generated From A Given Dataset

Nov 12, 2009

The attached file contains the brief but in short I'm looking for an automatic report to be generated from a given dataset. Conditional Lookup functions could be useful, but I'm getting lost in the middle of the large data. I've tried to summarise the requirements on the file. Based on the given data the output table should show which product, which SKU have zero value in which Class by Area?

## Conditional Part Cell Lookup Across Multiple Worksheets

Feb 22, 2008

We have the following formula in our timesheets. Basically when we enter a Job number in one cell in say Tab1, it will return the matching project name in a different cell that we have next to the project number. The job number match is done in the tab named "ProjectSchedule", where all the details of the project are listed. We need to extend the match range to include another tab named "CustomSchedule", but I can't figure out how to make the first formula search jobs from both tabs.

Current working formula:

=IF(C7="","",INDEX(ProjectSchedule!\$C\$3:\$C\$202,MATCH(C7 & "*",ProjectSchedule!\$B\$3:\$B\$202,0)))

What I'm trying to accomplish, but it not working is something like this:

=IF(C7="","",INDEX(ProjectSchedule!\$C\$3:\$C\$202&CustomSchedule!\$C\$3:\$C\$202,MATCH(C7 & "*",ProjectSchedule!\$B\$3:\$B\$202&CustomSchedule!\$B\$3:\$B\$202,0)))
