Macro Combines Cells Into String But Puts Undesired Comma At The Beginning?
Jul 21, 2014
I have a macro that takes the column of data from D on Sheet 1, pastes it into A on Sheet 3, gets rid of duplicates and then, in B1, combines all the numbers from A into a comma-separated string. The only problem is that it puts a comma at the beginning of the string. Is there something I can do to make that first comma not be there?

I did post a problem where I have a number like 123456 and I need to have Excel change it so that it puts a comma before the last two digits .. like so: 1234,56
I got a reply where I got the solution to use 0","00 and this works in Excel (using the custom format)
The only problem is that although the number changes in the cell to 1234,56 it doesn´t do so in the FX window and thus when I use the number to multiply it is actually 123456 instead of 1234,56 like it want it to be.

I guess this is a simple one but I am not sure of the best way to do it,
I have number of points recorded for everyday in an excel sheet where first column represents date, second column represents group third column represents line and fourth column represents point as shown in the example below
3 19 2222 4324
2223 4325
2224 4326
2225 4327
2226 4328
"3" and "4" represent the 3rd and 4th day of the month, "19" represents the group and 3rd and 4th columns rest are line and point numbers recorded (2222 is first line of day 3, group 19 and 4324 is first point of line 2222 of group 19 on 3rd day and so on....).
I need a macro (or formula) to copy the cells of the last day written in the sheet up to the last row to a new excel sheet, reformat them so that first column has the word "Date" in its first cell, second column has the word "group" third has "line" and fourth has point.
so in the example mentioned here I need it to copy the cells of day "4" including the group, line and point numbers and format them in the new sheet so that first column has "DATE" then 4 for the rest of the rows, second column has "group" and 19 in the rest of the rows, 3rd column has "Line" and all line copied up to last row, 4th column contains "point" and all points copied.

I have a column with data and I want to add, in each row, the following:
at the beginning of row:{color=blue}
and right at the end of the row: {/color}
so that
excel
becomes
{color=blue}excel{/color}
I tried to do this with the formula:
"{color=blue}"&A1&"{/color}"
which yields nothing.

I have a column which contains a series of alphanumeric characters some start with the alpha characters and others end with them.
As an example ABS1234, 1234ABS, 12k34AB needs to be ABS1234, ABS1234, AB12k34. The number of alpha characters at the end will be a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3. Is there some way that I can move the Alpha characters, at the end, so that they are always at the beginning of the string?

I am trying to get rid of the spaces at the beginning of text that is the result of a download from a reporting software package. I am using the Trim function but it does not work. It seems that it has something to do with the formatting. The first set of data of the download looks as follows:
SalesSales BreakdownSolenaceousCucurbitsLargeSeedIf I overtype the text in exactly the same way (thus keeping the spaces at the beginning), the trim function works. But this is not a practical solution.
The type of the cells is "2". I have tried copying the data as values to a different workbook but this does not help either.

I have used this code below to split a large excel file into multiple sheets from matching column data, but now I need to split it by a partial match (set number of characters from the beginning) from beginning of the column data.
For Example:
[Code]....
So with the code provided below using column 3 I would get 10 different sheets since none of the data in the column is identical. I want to modify the code (or come up with new code) so I can set the number of characters to compare from the beginning of the data in the set column and split into sheets based on that. So if I set it to the first 4 characters in column 3 I would receive only 5 sheets sheets: Safe, Fail, Dont, Poop, & 21-4.
What are the modifications or new code needed for this? I have searched for a bit with no luck, just keep finding code to check the full cell data for matches in a set column like this code I have:
SPLIT DATA FROM ONE SHEET TO MULTIPLE SHEETS

Example: Column A has a mixture of letters and numbers. ie AU1234 or AU5678 Always the letters will be first, but not sure if 2 or 3 letters. Need to insert space between letters and numbers.
I have so far. " =(left(a2,2)) & " " & (mid(a2,3,(len(a2)-2))) " this works if all are only 2 letters...
Now. What I need to do is open a .csv (will do manually) then hit something like ctrl-alt-k to run macro.
Step 1: Insert a column next to A, check rows down and for however many rows, make above formula (include 2 or 3 letters) to insert space between letters and numbers, select the new column, copy, select column a and overwrite with the values from the new column. ie turn 'A2' from "AU1234" to "AU 1234" and 'A3' from "AU4567" to "AU 4567" .
Step 2: Column D has comma delimited fields. Column F also has comma delimited fields. both D and F will always have the same number of fields. D will be something like 1234,2345,3456 ------ in this case 3 fields but could be over 100 fields
F will be something like M0002456 (04P), M0002457 (05P), M1230477 (02A).
Need to split both D and G from row A2 simultaneously from comma fields to rows. copying all other data from row. and insert before the next set of data in what was previously A3 and (in this case *should* be moved down to A5 because of the 2 inserted lines from the 2 extra fields).
E.g.: Column A Row 2 "AU 1234" Column B Row 2 "data1" Column C Row 2 "data2" Column D Row2 "1234" Column E Row 2 "data3" Column F Row 2 "M0002456 (04P)"
Column A Row 3 "AU 1234" Column B Row 3 "data1" Column C Row 3 "data2" Column D Row 3 "2345" Column E Row 3 "data3" Column F Row 3 "M0002457 (05P)"
Column A Row 4 "AU 1234" Column B Row 4 "data1" Column C Row 4 "data2" Column D Row 4 "3456" Column E Row 4 "data3" Column F Row 4 "M1230477 (02A)"
Then carry on to next row which may have only one field and can be ignored/skipped to the next which may have 100 fields which will need to be split to rows and inserted...etc....
Step 3
Remove all the "space Bracket-data-Bracket" ie " (04P) from column F

A1 header1
B1 header2
C1 header3

A1 header1
B1 header2
C1 header3

i'm a complete excel novice, but i think this should be pretty easy for you guys...
i just bought a new satnav system after 4 years with tomtom...
anyway, to get the speed camera database to work with it, i must add a couple of commas at the end of each set of co-ordinates contained within the spreadsheet, like this:
-3.23956,51.52737,1,50,1,67,,
-5.29024,50.22664,1,50,1,67,,
-5.27461,50.23143,1,50,1,247,,
thing is, most of them don't have the 2 commas at the end and just end with the number, like this:
-3.23956,51.52737,1,50,1,67
-5.29024,50.22664,1,50,1,67,,
-5.27461,50.23143,1,50,1,247
therefore, what i need to do is make up a formula in excel to search for a double comma at the end of each set of co-ordinates and if it doesn't already have them, then it should insert them...
i'm guessing for anyone with excel experience, this should be pretty easy to solve...

I have a spreadsheet with a number of columns containing comma delimited strings (years) which I need to check cell by cell and return false if anything apart from the years 2001 to 2008 is found.
For instance, a cell may contain the years (2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) or (2006, 2007) or (2001, 2004, 2008) or (2004) or any combination of those 8 years.
I thought of using the Split function on each cell and then looping through the resultant array to do a comparison against each of the 8 years but with a large number of delimited strings to check it could be a bit time consuming. Any idea how I could accomplish this more quickly and efficiently either with a formula or VBA?

I am building a tool for work, and in one of the sections of the main worksheet, I would like the cells to pull specific data from another worksheet that contains the results of a web query. The web query pulls a table of data, with a double header (rows 3 and 4). One column header is for the date and the other is for the time the data below corresponds to. There are also row titles along the left hand side.
I need a formula that will find the column that meets two conditions:
1) Today's date
2) A specific time (referenced from a cell on the main sheet)
It must then pull the data from the cell in that column that is in the row marked "Total".
Here is an example of the data set from the web query:
Excel 2010BCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZAAABACADAEAFAGAHAIAJAKALAMANAOAPAQARASATA
UAVAWAXAYAZBABBBCBDBEBFBGBHBIBJBKBLBMBNBOBPBQBRBSBT3
Total19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-Nov19-
Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-Nov20-
Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-Nov21-
Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-Nov22-
Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-Nov23-
[Code]......
I have done quite a bit of looking on the web and tried out several different formulas/variations. I think I'm getting close, but just can't get it quite right. Here are a couple that seem close and their results:
=INDEX('Rodeo Data'!$D$5:$JS$50,MATCH("Total",'Rodeo Data'!$B$5:$B$50,0),MATCH(J3,'Rodeo Data'!$D$4:$JS$4,0)*AND(MATCH(TODAY(),'Rodeo Data'!$D$3:$JS$3,1)))
This one correctly finds the date and "Total" row, but seems to ignore the MATCH(J3,'Rodeo Data'!$D$4:$JS$4,0) section, which is designed to find the specific time in row 4. It returns either the "Total" row value from the first or last column with the correct date depending on which match type argument I use.
=INDEX('Rodeo Data'!$D$5:$JS$50,MATCH("Total",'Rodeo Data'!$B$5:$B$50,0),MATCH(TODAY()&O3,'Rodeo Data'!$D$3:$JS$3&'Rodeo Data'!$D$4:$JS$4,))
This one returns the standard "#N/A" error message.
I am using Windows 7 and Excel 2010. "Rodeo Data" is the name of the sheet that contains the web query data I have included. The J3 and O3 references are cells in the main worksheet that contain the time I want the match function to find.
The desired output from the formula would be if I referenced it to today (20 Nov 2012) and 19:45, it would return the value of 65,826.
It may also be worth noting that the number of columns and rows in the data set is dynamic.

When I run the following code, if "If exists = True" then I want the routine to start again at the very beginning. Currently, 'as is' it re-starts at the beginning but enters a loop on itself; I understand why this is but it's not what I want but can't get round this! How do I make the "If exists = True" condition (if true) restart the routine - ie call AllNEWActions() without then going into a loop on itself? NB: I can't use "Exit Sub" (see it commented out) as I don't want to exit routine, just restart it.
Sub AllNEWActions()

GetDateFromCalendar
SheetAlreadyExists
If exists = True Then
boolRestart = True
AllNEWActions
' Exit Sub
Else
MsgBox (" Date selected/new sheet doesn't exist")
InsertNewSheet
End If
If boolRestart = False Then
ShowCalendar
GetDateFromCalendar
End If

I'm compiling several old worksheets into a single database for a research study. The worksheets contain patient data. Some of the worksheets have the patient's last name, first name, and middle initial entered all in one cell like this: Smith,John R. Compounding the problem is the fact that sometimes the name is entered with a space between the comma and the first name, sometimes not.
I have formulas to break the name out into three separate columns "lName, "fName", "midInit". However, if the name in the original cell has a space between the coma and the first name, then the “fname” column will contain a blank space in front of the name. This is problem because patients names can appear in the database more than once. Some patients are in the database several times.
If patient “John R. Smith”, for example, is entered in the database as”
“Smith” “John” “R “
and also as
“Smith” “<space>John” “R”
then the database won’t recognize them as the same name when I search for John Smith’s data. Right?
If so, then I need a way to eliminate the empty spaces in front of the first names. Like I said, some have empty spaces and some don’t. I could do this by hand, but there are over 1000 entries in these worksheets.

Basically I want a formula that automatically inputs a code based on 'marital status'. This would be easily done using a vlookup except for the fact that one of these marital statuses has multiple options. Example: if the marital status reads "Married" the code can very depending on whether it is different gender/same gender. I have gender codes in a separate column.
For example:
Status--->Code
Single---------------->Sin
Civil P'ship------------>Civ
Married + MM--------->Mar 1
Married + FF---------->Mar 1
Married + MF--------->Mar 2
Married is, of course, in a separate cell from the gender codes, which is why I've attempted to bring the AND function into the IF statement. However, I'm having no luck.
The spreadsheet I am designing is already getting pretty big so I wanted to avoid having more columns than necessary. Is it even possible to group this together in one formula?
This is an example of a formula I have tried but returns the #value error.
=VLOOKUP(I31,Mapping!$A$1:$C$12,3,FALSE)+IF(AND(I31="Married",AH31="MM"),"MAR 12","")

I have a spreadsheet with two sheets... Sheet1, and Sheet2, that I use as sort of a staging area to format info before bulk uploading to my product database. The products I'm working with at the moment have 10 subcategories below each of them. Sheet1 is the full product database listing. Is there any way to create a macro for the following:
I have the following format
First Name MI Last Name in Column A.
Sometimes there is a space on the last name for someone with a last name Mc Cormick (for example)
Also, sometimes the list of names is short and sometimes the list of names is long. Is there a way to get a "universal" macro in place, that will not depend on the number of names in the list but will be able to detect when the list ends?
So far I was able to run the macro to get them from text-to-column into cells A, B, and C. However, the middle column sometimes contains the last name if there isn't a middle initial. I need a way to test the middle column for more than one character. If there is more than one character, it is a last name and needs to be in the third column.

So I was given the task to translate some procedure instructions in an Excel file from English to Spanish. These are very simple instructions and in most cases repetitive throughout the document. There are a lot of instances where the instructions are the same except for a #. They are meant to be modified within the cell as the text that appears in the cell will be printed exactly as it appears.There are several instructions in the cell, it is basically a long continuous string in the cell. My idea is to create a macro that can search that range of cells for the instruction, replace it with the Spanish equivalent while leaving the original English instruction in the cell.
