i've tried searching for "Mode Function in Text" , "Mode Function by Text" but to no avail. Can someone please guide me in how to do a Mode by Text? =MODE(number1,number2,...) But if i have a whole chunk of data in Strings in cells Range A1:C50
1) How can i get the mode of that Range ?
2) is it possible to get the statistic of those for e.g.
Apple 20
Pear 30
Watermelon 50
etc......
I want to use a formula to detect which name is appearing most in a selected range of cells. The Mode formula gives this result but for numbers. I was thinking of the probability of having to combine the LEN function with the MODE function.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a statement something like: B1 = data. B2=IF(B1/8=0,"",IF(B1/8=INTEGER,B1/8 & "8/8",B1/8+1)). This is meant to identify which relay on a relay board is associated with the given data. For example if data=3, B2 = 1 3/8 meaning the 3rd relay on board 1. If data = 77, B2 = 10 5/8 meaning the 5th relay on board 10. I could do without the 10, but the 5th relay on that board is important to me. In summary, I think my trouble is identifying when the product of B1/8 is an integer. I may also be having trouble combining value and text. Well, there it is. I may very well be going about it all wrong.

I have attached spreadsheet. The 2 left columns are the raw data and the right columns are what i want the outcome (modes) to be. Is there a way I can do this without having to go through this manunally for every one?
I'm trying to calculate the mode for a large data set, but there is no 'mode function' in subtotal. I need to find the mode for each change in day - without having to retype the function.

I have a spreadsheet with 142 work types’ rows of work with each one showing the last 13 months of work received. I have set up a mode function for each work type, but for the ones when excel cannot work out the mode it puts n/a in and I have to do them manually, by looking at the last 13 months data and basically guessing a mode figure – which is a pain (e.g. if there was 13 different numbers from say 120 – 135 excel would give n/a but I would put the mode at around 128. As this spreadsheet gets updated monthly is there a way I can trick excel into giving a mode figure, or a figure close to what the mode should be. I have attached a sample of the spreadsheet.

I am looking for assistance for 2 vbcode functions that will provide current:
1) Calculation Mode - whether automatic, manual or semi automatic; and
2) Calculation Status - whether a recalc is required or not.
These functions need to work regardless of the calculation mode and always need to show the current status.I have tried creating volatile functions, but the problem I face is that if the calculation mode is manual, the function's return value is not updated unless I force a recalc which renders the purpose of the exercise useless.
I am trying to use the MODE function over multiple sheets within a work book, however when using =MODE( 'First Page:Last Page'!K5). the formula returns "#REF!". this should be returning 7, 8 or 9. I have already checked to see if the range is wrong, but when I changed the function to SUM, AVERAGE, etc they work fine....
however due to the need for non-excel users to easily add extra pages, adding each page individually would be a pain (and would mean I would need to train the staff in Excel)

I have a excel sheet where I have a list of strings seperated by a "-". I am looking to take the particular cell value and swap the characters before the dash with the characters after the dash. So for example:
FG03-FJ04 would become FJ04-FG03
AB02-CD12 would become CD12-AB02 and so forth....
I have tried findling around with the split function but cant seem to get anywhere, does anyone know a tried and tested method of doing this?
Excel vlookup function returns #VALUE when the lookup value exceeds 256
characters. I need a hash function to transform large strings into a value
that does not exceed the 256 character limit.
I have been using the CONCATENATE function to merge 2 strings together into a single cell. However the problem is, the third concatenated cell depends on the other 2 existing. The idea is I want to take 2 columns of data, and use a formula to merge them, then delete the original 2 data columns so I have a single column with the full data merged.
COL 1 (A3) = First Name
COL 2 (B3) = Last Name
COL 3 (C3) = Full Name (wanted)
So I do =CONCATENATE(A3,B3) and that puts the fullname in C3, but I want to sort of "flatten" C3 so that I have the fullname by itself and I can delete the original cells (A, and B)

I've recently been making a macro in visual basic that loops through all my excel files and replaces an old company name to a new company name and It's working great, well except for one thing... It always misses one string in the file and it leaves me with 90% of the file corrected. I think that the string might be a part of a merged range so Range.Find is not able to find it. Integers get cast to long in the OS, and then back to Integers when passed nback, so it is a unnecessary overhead.

I have been working on a basic input sheet for progress reporting at work to standardize the information and acheive a half decent automated report.
I am have trouble validating the textbox to only allow an integer to be entered in the box. On result of text being entered on add, a msgbox should prompt the user to enter only text.

i need is a script that will add two boxes together to get a sum in a third box, but where it is tricky for me is that i need the third box to retain the summed value even when either of the first two box values are deleted.
For example, say i have box A1=10, B1=40, and C1= SUM of A1 & B1 (so C1=50). Easy enough, but where im lost is that i want to be able to delete the value of either A1 or B1 and then have C1 still = 50, so then i can input another value into either A1 or B1 to continue to add to C1.
I'm creating a user form where the user can enter latitude and longitude in either Deg/Min/Sec format or Decimal Degrees. To go from decimal degrees into Deg/Min/Sec I need to do the following

Z=Seconds (Single)
X = Integer(A) <-- I need to cast A as an integer or truncate it. Not sure how to do this in VBA. Y = Integer[( A - X ) * 60] <-- Again, needs to be cast as an integer Z = {[( A - X ) * 60] - Y} * 60. I didn't see a native truncate function in Excel and in the past I've always used Left() or Right()
I am using the IsDate() and IsNumeric functions in my VBA code. Is there an equivalent function for testing if a value is an integer?

So I'm trying to format the last variable so that it is always four digits, ie, 0001, 0034, 0204, 1234, etc...
Any clue how to do this, I've searched around and can't seem to find the code for it. I could do it with a long set of conditional statements, but I'm pretty sure there is a format function or something.

In the following code snippet I have worked out a way to verify that the user inputs an Integer and then prompts downstream if an improper value was entered. The user is prompted for a corrected reponse and loops until they get it right. The initial Cancel at the first prompt was causing issues until i saw poster: titarelli use StrPtr(). Except for subsequent cancels, the code works but it is clunky at best. How to tighten this up?

Take a look at the sample sheet. I get the information as an import that looks like the info in column A.
I want it to look like the data in Column B. If I try to format as a number it always turns the last number to a 0. I also dont want the 0's on front of the digits either.
I dont really care how its done. But I would like a routine to turn column A into and like the example in Column B. No zeros on the front and maintaining all numbers.
