I have data on 400 rows. Each row has a maximum of 10 cells with data, but many have empty cells with no data. I would like to sort each row to show values of cells in sequence and eliminate empty cells. I can use the sort row function but its a long process for 400 individual rows. Is there an easier way?

My boss wants me to design a dynamic, updatable chart in Excel 2003. I initially made a Pivot Chart based on a Pivot Table which worked perfectly, but it doesn't look professional enough when printed (or viewed) and she wants me to approach it a different way.
So, I created a graph based on the data in a Pivot Table, and used dynamic ranges as the source for the graph series so that the chart updates when the criteria fields are changed for the Pivot Table. I then added two combo boxes (ie data validation lists) to the Chart sheet, and wrote VBA code so that whenever the combo box values are changed, the Criteria fields for the Pivot Table on the 2nd sheet are updated accordingly, and this in turn causes the graph to be updated as well.
This solution also worked perfectly, but now I've been told to create the graph without macros.
Does anyone have any suggestions? The requirements/details are as follows:
1. The Pivot Table is on sheet "PIVOT", and the graph is on sheet "GRAPH"
2. The Pivot Table has two criteria - School Name and Year Level
3. On sheet "GRAPH" there are two data-validated fields, School and Year, which only allow the selection of valid Schools and Year Levels
Is there any way to make the Pivot Table update when values are changed in the fields on the CHART sheet so that the chart also updates, but without using code nor a Pivot Chart?
1) i have office 2003 on a laptop. within powerpoint, i can create a 'microsoft excel chart 11' object. to create a link to the excel data source, do i have to go through the odbc sql setup? it works, but i don't want my powerpoint to be dependent on some excel file somewhere. what are the other options to insert/make a functional pivot chart in powerpoint with the data also within powerpoint? the data as sheet option does not result in the chart being a pivot, it's just a plain chart. it has to be a proper object, not an image paste or a chart that updates links with the excel file open.
2) i have office 2007 on my other laptop. i can not find any suitable object to choose from to make a pivot chart in powerpoint. what's the best way to go about in 2007 version?
3) am i going about this the wrong way with the objects? should i be after vba code?
Hi, I desperately need help with a pivot-table and can't find anyone else who's ever had this problem...I have a very large healthcare data table which for simplicity I will describe as follows. In essence the first two columns respectively are (A) location and (B) month. Let's say the third column (C) is the number of cases of the disease kidpox treated in each health centre during that month. The fourth column (D) is the total number of cases of everything treated during that month in each clinic. The fifth column (E) is the proportion of cases of this disease over all consultations for each health centre and month, and the formula in E2 is .....
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created quite a nice little macro that;
drills through a lot of key figures, updates a pivot chart and copies the chart to powerpoint.
However it crashes on one particular data set every time with this error:
Run-time error '1004':
Unable to set the _Default property of the pivot item class
The code where the debugger stops is the last line below here.
lngKpi = Sheets("Helpfile"). Cells(lngRow, 2)
Sheets("Charts").Select
ActiveSheet.ChartObjects("DK").Activate
ActiveChart.PivotLayout.PivotTable.PivotFields("KPI # (overall").CurrentPage = lngKpi
I can manually change the pivot chart to the keyfigure it crashes on and thereby workaround the problem in the macro. Also it works for more than 50 other keyfigures without problems.

1) 4 values contains in each row based on the values from those cells the max value will display.
2) if more than 2 cells have empty,NR or NA text means the entire row has to delete.
3) if 2 or more that means 3 cells having values the empty cell,NR or NA cell will place value with the condition of macro that is 75% of other values which is maximum among them.

I have a long range of cells (U3:AX3), all of which are empty save one. Is there a way to search through the range of cells, and return the contents of the one cell that contains text?
I would do this with a series of nested IF statements if there weren't more than 30 of them!
Please look at the sample workbook below. The chart you see below is fine BUT I would like in a pivot table chart, so I could select any days on the pivot chart. I have tried it to do it myself but for some reason the time is not displaying on the pivot chart correctly. Any help please ?
P.S. If not possible then can we add a scroll bar or something?
I have created a pivot table and chart. The pivot chart consists of three sets of data from the pivot table. Two of the data sets are lines and the third data set is displayed as columns. I made the third data set into columns by right clicking on the data series line and selecting chart type. I change the chart type for that data set to a column and it worked great. The only problem is that when data is refreshed in the associated pivot table, the entire chart turns into columns with completely different formatting. Does anyone know how I can maintain the graph with the two lines and one column data set when I refresh the data?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a cell "really" blank/empty based on an If statement? For instance:
=if(a1>10,a1,"")
Has a value_if_false of "". But Excel interprets this a bit differently than a cell that never had anything typed into it.
So if you have a column full of this formula copied down, and hit <control+down arrow>, you will go straight to the bottom and skip over all rows. Whereas if you have a column with values and empty cells alternating and hit <control+down arrow>, you will only skip the empty cells and go to the next value. Excel treats the conditionally empty cells as if they have a value, when it comes to this type of navigation. This holds even if you copy and paste "Values" for the cells over the formulas.
Is there any way to tell Excel to make the cells truly empty?
How I can look up non empty cells as shown in the below tables by use of a formula (I guess shifting data to the left without any empty cells between the data)?

I need to write a macro which checks cells in one column and if the cell is empty it deletes the whole row (which contains the cell).
I tried this code but it doesn't delete all rows with empty cells:
I have this example data range:
foo 3
goo 2
blu 5
I'd like to be able to chart this (clustered columns for instance) but when I delete value 2 from goo, I'd like the chart to skip that row altogether and not display "goo" and a blank space as its value. I only want foo and blu columns showing.
Is that possible?
I am writing the following code to set the source data for a column chart. the source should be F13 until last cell, which is F862
VB:
ActiveChart.SetSourceData Source:=Sheets("Input TE country").Range("F13:" & ActiveSheet.Range("F13").End(xlDown).Address), PlotBy:=xlColumns
Now it selects F13 until the last cell, which is F65536.
For Excel 2000:
In worksheet A, there is a column of numbers that can be 0 or not zero.
In worksheet B, there is a column of cells that determines if a corresponding cell in worksheet A is zero or not.
'As an example, for cell 'B!C6
=If( 'A!B52=0,"",'A!B52)
The column in worksheet B is used in a chart.
The chart settings are:
Tools | Options | Chart | Active Chart- Plot empty cells as: Not plotted
The chart is not treating "" as EMPTY, and therefore is not presenting correctly.
How would I set the value of cell 'B!C6 to EMPTY (or null, or blank, or whatever Excel calls it) using an IF statement, such that 'B!C6 would evaluate to EMPTY, and be ignored by the chart?
Would this be any different in Excel 2003?
Im using a pivot with 2 rows entrees and 1 column entree. I would like to sort my data from the biggest value to the smallest. It works for the first group, but when i sort the second the first change aswell and mess with my data.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure something out. Iīve done a waterfall chart and I need a macro to do the following things with the source data (in order):
1.- Sort the data (Rows) between PROY an PPTO (PROY and PPTO values NOT included) in and ascending order (Based on column "Varia" value).
-------Proy ---- Acum.------Varia
PROY-- 670
ONE--------------- 650-------- 20
TWO------------- 650---------- 70
THREE--------- --- 293 -------- 427
FOUR--------- --- 252 ------- -41
PPTO----------------- 252
2.- Once that is done, and I donīt know if this is posible, I need to colour the scaterred columns (only the ones in the middle of the chart - one, two , three, four-, not PROY and PPTO) in the chart according to their value (Red if negative and green if positive).
I am writing regarding the Pivot table creation with data which contains empty rows.
Recently, I work on a project with a data which contains empty rows. I will attach the file for sample to see what sort of data contains my sheet.
As you can see the data is divided according to some criteria, and it is constantly updated by users. sometimes a new criteria is added at the end of the sheet, that is why I need to create a pivot table, to be able to just changing Source, to update the table and manipulate table in order to get desired results, but I can't remove these empty rows rom the data as far as some unexperienced users have to fill the information and it is more comfortable to have the data separated from each other for them.
However, when creating the Pivot table on this type of data, the pivot table will include the blanks Row Labels there.
In my Pivot table I have 3 fields in the "header - section" of each row
There is also the possibilty in the Page section to choose between subjects (eg physics, chemistry, biology etc) When all rows are displayed there are 68 in total
When I choose Physics there are about 30 customers that have a value in 1 of the rows. Excel shows 30 rows, but I would like all 68 row to be shown, because these are the values that are important to me. I have tried a lot of settings in the pivot table but can't find the correct 1.
What happens a lot is the the rows are "multiplied", meaning that the 1st row header has every combination of the 2nd and 3rd and so one. Which setting is needed to get what I want?
I am using a Pivot Table to sort, combine, and sum data. After this is complete I want to copy the pivot table and paste it (values only) to another worksheet and use the data again. The problem is the pivot table does not fill in all the blanks and leaves empty rows. The there a way to force the pivot table to fill in the labels?

I have a lot of pivot tables on multiple sheets in one workbook.
I want to deselect all "(blank)" from rows, and sort both rows and columns in ascending order.
I recorded a macro but it only refers to specific pivot tables, I would like it to do the same sorting for all pivot tables in the workbook.
Sub PivotBlankSort()
'
' PivotBlankSort Macro
'
'
Windows("Alt Assessment Y10 13-14.xlsx").Activate
Sheets("L&C Prog Sum2").Select
With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable10").PivotFields("English")
.PivotItems("(blank)").Visible = False
[Code]...
etc as I move to each separate pivot table.
I have a pivot table and if i select my headers i have the availability to sort a-z and z-a plus manual ...manual says to drag the item where i would like it... I have tried the excel database..they reference manual sort but really give no explanation.
Scenario.. I want to sort a-z.. then manual sort a few items to the top of the list..
I have a table that looks like this:
Code:
TechNum | FirstName | LastName | System | WorkDate | Values
I need the pivot table to look like this:
Code:
-->System
--> TechNum - FirstName LastName
--> WorkDate
I need the sorting to look like this:
Code:
-->System
--> TechNum
--> WorkDate
How do I show the first three fields in the same level of the pivot table and still maintain the sort cascade?
