Returning The Contents Of A Non-empty Cell In A Range Of Empty Cells
Jan 8, 2008
I have a long range of cells (U3:AX3), all of which are empty save one. Is there a way to search through the range of cells, and return the contents of the one cell that contains text?
I would do this with a series of nested IF statements if there weren't more than 30 of them!
1) 4 values contains in each row based on the values from those cells the max value will display.
2) if more than 2 cells have empty,NR or NA text means the entire row has to delete.
3) if 2 or more that means 3 cells having values the empty cell,NR or NA cell will place value with the condition of macro that is 75% of other values which is maximum among them.
Ok, so I have a column of data in 24hr time format over a 24hr period from noon thru midnight and back to noon again. It has been necessary to make some of the cells in the column blank, and I am having difficulty extracting the first and last non-blank entries of the column (basically I want the earliest and latest time in that specific 24hr period). The time data is in order, so for example, some of the first values in the column are 14:30, 21:10, and 22:40, while some of the last values in the column are 02:20, 05:50, and 11:00, therefore the values I require are 14:30 and 11:00.
Any help that anyone can give on this matter would be greatly appreciated, but until then I guess I will keep plodding through the help sites and playing with formula until I spontaneously combust.
I had this problem a few days ago and NVBC suggested Text to Columns, which worked initally but didn't seem to 'save' or stick... also, I'm not sure what is causing the problem to begin with. It was my understanding that Excel couldn't return a truely 'blank' value. If a cell was blank or empty, Excel still 'sees' it as Zero. WHY then, for the Love of Gummi Bears, will Excel not calculate my formula. It's a simple formula!
=A13+B13
I've tried =SUM(A13+B13)
I've tried =IF(ISERROR(A13+B13),"",A13+B13)
But if don't TYPE in a 0 or a number, then it just does nothing. 50 + 0 = should be 50 not blank or #VALUE!. 50 + Nothing = should be 50 not blank or #VALUE!
Attached is a small copy of what I'm trying to do. I've double checked that all number cells are formatted to numbers, not text. I tried the Data:Text to Columns trick. I've tried Tools:Options:Show Zeros. I've tried Manual and Automatic Calculation. They shouldn't have to type in 60 cells of Zero to get the simple calculation.
In the Wheelchair 1, 2, 3 & 4 sheets in the attached workbook, I would like to do a simple calculation of the contents of column 'H'. Instead of it adding up to just a few £'s I'm getting the result of something like -£5880.00. I think I know whay is wrong, but I don't know the solution to it. Column 'H' populates when a date is put into Column 'E' So if cells if cells in Column 'E' are empty then column 'H' doesn't do the sum.
What I think I need is a bit of formula to put into column 'H' to tell it to ignore blank spaces and count what is there.
I'm just getting started with VBA, and I must say, it's very rewarding when something actually works (of course with a lot of help in this fase of my VBA knowledge)
I've got the following problem, I'm trying to write some code that wil clear all cells down if i.e. cell E45 is empty.
So if cell E45 is empty the code should clear all formulas / text in de cells A46 ; M46 all the way to A100 ; M100.
Is it possible to make a cell "really" blank/empty based on an If statement? For instance:
=if(a1>10,a1,"")
Has a value_if_false of "". But Excel interprets this a bit differently than a cell that never had anything typed into it.
So if you have a column full of this formula copied down, and hit <control+down arrow>, you will go straight to the bottom and skip over all rows. Whereas if you have a column with values and empty cells alternating and hit <control+down arrow>, you will only skip the empty cells and go to the next value. Excel treats the conditionally empty cells as if they have a value, when it comes to this type of navigation. This holds even if you copy and paste "Values" for the cells over the formulas.
Is there any way to tell Excel to make the cells truly empty?
I am trying to write a macro to do the following: Loop through a range of cells on a worksheet Sheet1 M17:M46 and if there is text in the cell then Copy all the data to the left Of Coumun M in the same row and paste the values to the next open row of a range A17:L46 on another worksheet (sheet2.) Basically the text in column M is an idicator to add the data to an order sheet. If there is no text don't add the data , look in the next row etc. I'm not sure if this is the way to go
Sub CopyRows() Worksheets("sheet1").Select FinalRow = Range("M65536").End(xlUp).Row ' Find the last row of data ' Loop through each row For x = 2 To FinalRow ' Decide if to copy based on column M ThisValue = Range("M" & x).Value ' could be any value If ThisValue = "yes" Then Worksheets("sheet2").Range("A" & x & ":L" & x).Copy Worksheets("sheet1").Select NextRow = Range("A65536").End(xlUp).Row + 1 Range("A" & NextRow).Select ActiveSheet.PasteSpecial = xlValues Worksheets("sheet1").Select End If Next x End Sub
I'm stuck using Excel 2003 to auto-populate a cell.
I have a range of dates in five consecutive columns called:
Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4 and Phase 5
I enter the date that 'Phase 1' starts under the first header. Once Phase 2 starts I enter a date under 'Phase 2', and so on to Phase 5.
Each phase is consecutive to the next so will always be filled in from 1 to 5.
I want to create an additional column called 'Status' that shows the Column Title of the last phase with a date in it. For example, if Phase 1 to 3 had dates but 4 & 5 were blank, "Phase 3" would be displayed in the 'Status' column.
I've tried nesting some ISBLANK functions without any luck.
The macro I have is looping all sheets looking for empty cells in a specific column, and when it founds an empty cell the value for one cell is copied to the empty cell.
But in one worksheet it stops with the error:
Run-time error '1004' Application-defined or object-defined error
Using the following code to remove empty rows based on whether a specific range of columns is empty. The code works if the cell has a zero, but not when the cell is blank. An example of the data is attached.
VB: Public Sub DelRows2() Dim Cel As Range, searchStr, FirstCell As String Dim searchRange As Range, DeleteRange As Range
How I can look up non empty cells as shown in the below tables by use of a formula (I guess shifting data to the left without any empty cells between the data)?
=IF( SUM(S7:Y7)="","",SUM(S7:Y7)) - Produces 0 =IF(SUM(S7:Y7)="0","",SUM(S7:Y7)) - Still Produces 0
What I am trying to do is if ALL cells S7 thru Y7 are blank then be blank otherwise sum them. I've used this on a single cell, but not to test a range of cells. What I use for a single cell would be like this...
=IF(S7="","",S7) - Will not produce 0 if the cell is blank, just leaves it blank.
I have been trying to register a macro and modify it. That was supposed to autofilter a table by date between values contained in 2 cells (start date & end date).
I declared variables for that, but for some reason, value returned are Emty (date 00:00:00).
Do you see something wrong in this small code?
Sub Filter() Dim fDate As Date Dim lDate As Date fDate = Range("B1") lDate = Range("B2") Range("B3:I3").Select Selection.AutoFilter ActiveSheet.Range("$B$3:$I$99").AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:= _ ">=" & Val(fDate), Operator:=xlAnd, Criteria2:="
If IsEmpty(Range(Cells(iCurrentRow, iFirstDataColumn), Cells(iCurrentRow, iTotalCol)))
Then
i did a select to make sure it was selecting the whole range I want and it works fine:
Range(Cells(iCurrentRow, iFirstDataColumn), Cells(iCurrentRow, iTotalCol)).Select Inside my range I can have cells with 0s in them and cells with nothing in them. What I would like my if statement to do is return true ONLY when ALL cells have nothing in them. At the moment, even if I have 0's in some cells, it's returning false.
I am looping thur an array to Format A range of cells. After the format is complete I need to validate that all of the cell in a range are empty if so hide the whole Column.I was Try to do it like this. I am not getting an error but nothing seems to happen either. Also The Boder of the cell only appers on the Last cell it should be on the cells....
trying to add cells together that contain time (hours and minutes). The cell containing the total formula shows the #VALUE! result when and only when one or more cells being added do not have a value in them.
The times have been entered as actual times of the day, formatted for AM/PM.
A simple adding formula works fine, but all cells must have a value in them to obtain a valid result.
The application reads in a file, whcih can have various formats. To check which format it's in, I plan to look for certain empty fields/ cells. I can successfully detect a group of empty cells by explicitly testing each one, but when I put them all in a range and test that, the check fails. So far I've reduced the problem to the following example code.
Sub check_clear() Range("g1:g8").clear If IsEmpty(Range("a1")) Then Range("g2") = "A1 empty" End If If IsEmpty(Range("b1")) Then Range("g3") = "B1 empty" End If If IsEmpty(Range("c1")) Then Range("g4") = "C1 empty" End If If IsEmpty(Range("d1")) Then Range("g5") = "D1 empty" End If..............
The result is that each individual cell check results in the relevant "XX empty" message. However, the test that the range of multiple cells is empty never produces a result. I'd really like to understand the underlying reason - as well as find out how to perform an isEmpty test on a range. I'm looking more for guidance and insight than a canned solution
I am trying to lock the unused cells in 32, 2 column by 7 row named ranges, based on whether or not two cells, above each range are equal or less than each other. In other words while one of the cells is less than or equal to the second cell all cells in the range below should be unlocked, as soon as that condition is no longer true the blank cells need to be locked.
I am trying to use this in the Workbook_Sheetcalculate so that the macro will run automatically.
I require code to identify the last row in column 'A' that contains data, and then to select every row up to that one, and each column up to 'H'. My data begins on row 3, and the rows with data varies from row 7 through 120. The columns with data is constant so there is no need to test in that direction.
first time posting. Need some help. I have a workbook with two sheets - (say sheet A and sheet B) that I need to copy a range from and paste (concatonated) into a new workbook. The thing is I want to copy the "non-empty" cells in columns d and e of each sheet - another words - I dont want to specify a specific cell range because users will be periodically adding new rows. Then I want to paste the "combined" from both sheets into a new sheet in a new workbook.
I have a range that is filled with formulae and the the number of rows in the range with data changes as the formulae reevaluate the inputs. So the rows with visible data changes between one row and 200 rows. By looking at the output in the first column of the range, Col M and finding the last row where the formulae returns data, I need a way of selecting across the columns of the range (M1 through to Qi) where i is the number of rows that have data in.
