In this project, the number of values to sum is large and I do not wish to use long formulas to extract the numeric part of each cell within the range. I am also forbidden to use up extra cells as an intermediate working out. Can you help?
I need to sum the numeric portions of any cell containing a certain letter within a row. I found a solution that works if all the cells within my row are either blank or contain a string with the "desired letter" lets say the letter is "a" so that we can compare it to ....
I want to the formula to look at the 6th and 6th digit (numeric, alpha-numeric, or Alpha) and compare it with the cells under "'PSCCR Queue - Manager" TAB from C4 thru C7.
Below formula is only looking at the first value when comparing.
I have created a macro that searches for an existing part in my worksheet and copies the found part to the row above. I would like to increment the value of cells B and H in the new copied row. Both cells contain an alphanumeric string that ends with a numeric value. For example cell B has a string like this "APL-DK0030" and cell H has a string like this "Dell Optiplex GX260 V09"....
In my financial modelling I often have a calculated number of months of inventory. This number varies. I need to use this number to calculate the actual inventory value. For eg. it may be 3.2 months of inventory; in this case I need to sum 3 cells (current month, current month -1, current month -2) plus 0.2 of the fourth cell (current month -3)
But I may need to change the number of months of inventory to, for example, 4.2. In this case I would need the sum of four cells plus 0.2 of the fifth cell etc etc.
Can anyone help me to get a validation to check that what is entered in a cell, lets say A1, has to be number between 100000 and 899999 (this I already have) OR a value/text from I100000 to I899999. So it only acceots a vlaue betwwen 100000 and 899999 and it is also ok to have the letter I at the begining.
I have a document needed to be printed with some pages in the middle in landscape page type, the rest in portrait. If using Word it would be easier, but in Excel I cant find the section break to chage page setup separately. Is there anyway to do it. Currently I'm printing the document separately in portrait and then landscape with some page break added and page number modified. However it's quite troublesome and easy to make mistake.
I have a spreadsheet with 2 worksheets. On the first "active parts" I have a list of active part numbers and on the second "All Parts" I have all of the parts available.
I want to compare every part in the All Parts worksheet to see if the part number exists on the Active Parts sheet - if it's there, I would like it to return the value "Active" in column B in All Parts. I have a formula in column B in All Parts that seems to work for the first few, but as soon as it finds one that is active, the rest of the cells below all return "Active".
One system I use provides an output of the previous day the system ran (which is the date I need) but provides it in a strange format. Today, for example, would appear in 4 different cells.
Day Month Century Year 28 12 20 12
I would like to take this output and change it to 28-Dec-12.

Hoping (but but pretty sure it wouldnt work) that Excel would read it as 12/28/12 and convert it to 28-Dec-12 but that did not happen.
Is there any way to do this without using VBA?
If not, is there an easy way to pull this info using a very simple macro?
I have created a log file for work which records jobs processed. Additional code has just been added to retrieve job information data from a statistical process control program. This works fine however the spc program outputs the Ohmic value as ohms which I need to convert into alphanumeric format. For example: job value is 24K4, spc outputs as 24400 which I need to convert to 24K4. The Ohmic values range from mOhms to gOhms. Examples below.
Bearing in mind that the above are just examples of possible values, is it possible to convert numeric values to an alphanumeric format similar to those show above using VBA? You may ask why I need to convert. The log file allows manual input of job information where the value is entered in alphanumeric format. It also contains a search form which displays results allowing the user to see if a job has been processed. Obviously it is easier for the user if the job value is displayed as alphanumeric.
On a work sheet I have 20 columns that may or may not have data in it. In the 21 column I want to have a sum "of the values" in the other columns. Problem is the data is in this form i.e. 6 01/17/07 smr or 15 1/19/07 gtw or 24 01/21/07.
To clarify each cell will have a value of a number from 1 to 99 followed by 2 spaces. Then it can have 2 more spaces and an id tag or just finish with the date.
So, from the example above in column 21 I would have a current value of 45 and it could change if more values were added.
Note values are generated from a macro. It may be possible to change the macro so that a comma or such may be used to seperate the different "values / data types"
I need to automatically populate a column with an alphanumeric MFR0001 to MFR9999 and am currently using the formula below to add 1 to the start point (A1)...
A1=MFR0001 Formula in A2 =LEFT(C1,3)&(RIGHT(C1,4)+1)
This works perfectly if I start at MFR1000, but breaks and drops the 000 if I use it on the number I need to start with (MFR0001).

I would like to find a single-cell formula that will handle the multiple instances of either the X or Y headings (ex: there are two 'Yes' Rows) and still reach the appropriate summations. I would like to accomplish this without resorting to Macros or manual cell references if possible. I've acheived some limited success with array formulae so far, but find that the multiple instances of 'Yes' cause only one row to be summed before the formula finishes.
I have a data set of students results and I have been using countif to pickup similar grades eg, C1, C2 and C3 all as C. However I need to subtotal filter against teachers and the sumproduct won't let me use C* as a wildcard to pick up the three types of C. How I can subtoal countif multiple criteria.
I have two columns of data: 1 column can be possibly anything, either numeric, alphanumeric, or alpha only (VINS or vehicle numbers). The adjacent column are four different types of vehicles. I've tried concatentating the two to try and count the unique combinations (a truck maybe used more than once during the day), which I can get unique values, but not unique values for each type. Also, the range sizes are variable, but no more that 65 rows.
An example:

MOST CELLS ARE 6-7 VARIABLES.. satrting with either 01, 02, 03 with 4-5 letters following or have a 6 digit number or 6 letter value.
I have 10 columns (A-J). Column B is the Date & Column C is the Time, I have the data sorted 1st by date then by time. The 5th Column, E, is Size. The 10th column, J, is "Position."
This 10th column, J, is in binary format. A 1 equals a Position & a 0 equals no Position.
1) I need to find the Max Sum of the Size in which the Max consecutive set of 1s has occurred.
2) I need to also do this on a day by day basis, using the Date in Column B, without having to manually go through & modify all the formulas to reference the date.
I have a Sumif formula for the 2nd but it won't copy down to update the formula for each unique date. I have to manually change the date values & I have ~957 unique dates to do; so it would be a rather painstaking process if only done manually. Moreover, it doesn't count the Max Sum of all consecutive 1s in Column J...
The length of the non unique columns (all columns w/o unselecting the duplicate entries) is 19,068.
If you can be of help, I'd be very thankful...my brain is overloaded w/googling & using trial & error.

I wish to go through this list using a seperate list of distinct values, and count the total number of CPUs for that SPEED. So, for the extract above I could manually tell you that there are a total of 8 processors running at 730Mhz

In this example, I would like to be able to determine which of the Sarah's belongs to Donald w/o having to visually look at each record ( 100,000's of records). (FYI: the names for Sarah would/could be her Maiden Name and possibly a name or two from a former marriage). What I need to be able to do is match and extract the names of Jones, Donald T and Jones, Sarah Jane and Jones, Sarah Jane Smith and eliminate Smith, Sarah J and Baker, Sarah Jane.
In my example, Donald is in the first column, but can be in any column on a row so the name positions are random across the columns. However, the format for each column is then same...Last Name, First Name Middle Name(or Initial) with a comma always after the last name in each column. The length of the last name also varies.
VBA or Formula that will search the cells in the columns of each row and return the names (complete contents of the cells with matching last names) that have a matching last name for that row.
I'm working with a worksheet with 4000+ rows, so I'm looking for a formula to automate a summation. In Worksheet1 (4000+ rows) I have data from 1998 to 2008 for each month and day:

I have a chart of numbers pertaining to progress of a project by month. The end of month dates are in a row across the top, the progress % are in corresponding rows and columns below:
I'm trying to do a SUM of HLOOKUP values to get a total progress for a given month. For example, I need to see the total progress for end of May from end of March: SUM(HLOOKUP(5.5) to HLOOKUP(1.2))=5.5+3.4+1.2 in a cell at the end of the row. How can I do this? Do I need to use another function?
