View 3 RepliesOur main spreadsheet in the office is a shared filed which is accessed by 3 pc's.
We have been using this set-up for nearly 3 years and no problems until this last week. Now, over the past week, this message pops up when we try to save the file on the PC's not hosting the file.
"Excel was unable to save the workbook because there was a problem reading or applying part of the revision history. You can unshare the work book or save to a non shared workbook format to fix the problem"
I have shared/unshared/reshared and shared again but a week later, I still keep getting this message popping up. Any ideas?
One thing I have noticed is that we have set it in the advanced tab of the share workbook options not to keep revision history, but sometimes it also shows 'keep history for 30 days'.
I am creating a spreadsheet to track customers contact information and purchase history.
A B C D
1 First Name Last Name Phone Number Etc.
2 Mike Jones

I wanted to know if theres a way to click on a customer (say Mike Jones) and be able to enter and view purchase history information relating to that customer in either a drop down box or different sheet?
ex.
Mike Jones
Date Item Spent Last Contacted
4/24 Toy $500 4/31
5/16 Movie $15 5/20

Now, when it starts, I have a popup form asking for password for access for it. The problem is that for one person - AND ONLY THAT PERSON - the VBA Editor window opens and she has to press the "Play" button for it to hide and be able to enter the password to access the application.
The editor is not showing on any other computer. All computers are running Excel 2010.
I am working on an Excel file which was saved and then whilst working on it my Excel programme locked up and I lost the data. I thought it would recover it but it didn't. So I lost my data and had to redo it all from the original saved file.
However, my problem is this. I have updated this file and saved it countless times but it never appears in my previous file history when I scroll down the file tab (Excel 2000) although it is stored on the file directory.
I have to import data from an external source(oracle database) to an Excel(2013) table.
Now the data in the staging table in the database keeps refreshing/changing, However in Excel i need the data to come into a new row everytime instead of refreshing the whole table and looking like the staging table in the database. So basically i need to build history in Excel.
I managed to implement a macro that adds a time/date stamp in Column A when any of the subsequent cells in that row are changed. With this now working, I really need the ability to restore the undo history in case a change to the data needs to be reverted.
Sub procedure:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim c As Range
Application.EnableEvents = False
For Each c In Target
If c.Column > 1 And c.Column < 21 Then
Cells(c.Row, 1) = Now
End If
Next c
Application.EnableEvents = True
End Sub
I am designing a workbook that techs in my lab can use from any of our network computers to submit requests for making chemical solutions they need to run their tests. Currently they have to fill out a paper form to make the request, so this should make things a little more efficient and less paper intensive.
I have the workbook designed and working, but now need to implement it as a shared file and this is where the problems are occurring. I assumed that shared files could allow access to the same file AT THE SAME TIME with no issues, but that is not the case in Excel97 on our network. Using two networked computers side by side I have tried updating the shared file at the same time and got a myriad of popups. The include:
1) Do you want to save the changes you made to "..."? (I did not include the actual filename here.)
2) A file named "......" already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it?
3) "......" is now available for editing. Choose Read-Write to open it for editing.
4) This file is locked. Try the command later.
5) This file has been locked by for saving. Try again later.
Question:
Are these error messages normal for shared files? Do some reflect issues more with the network than with Excel? Is there any way to get VBA to simulate clicking a Yes, No, or Cancel, or OK whenever a one of these specific messages comes up?
We have Excel 2003 at our workplace. I have shared a file, which is used by many users, so we can use the file at the same time. My problem is that if let's say I am writing a value in cell C2 and another user uses the same cell and writes another value there, and he saves the file and then I try to save the file as well, Excel will ask me which value to keep (the value written by the other user, or my value). Actually what I would need Excel to do is to save both, and put one under the other.

why my code would hit a run time error on a shared file? It works fine unshared. This is on a ActivateSheet Worksheet Event, Code is housed in a Module and called when activated.

I found some vba codes in this forum which record the date and time in column A when a file is opened.
Can the codes be modified such that when someone opens the file the second time on the same day, the date and time are recorded in column B?

I am encountering a specific scenerio where In I am creating a New file by copying one of the sheets And renaming that With todays date. here starts me problem when I try To share the sheet To work around I am seeing that th macro Is Not copying the sheet properly even though i have given PasteSpecial. The code goes here
VB: AutoLinked keywords will cause extra spaces before keywords. Extra spacing Is Not transferred when copy/pasting, but Is If the keyword uses "quotes".

is there anything we can do to pass this or any solution for it?
I've been having trouble recently with my workbook file size growing rapidly due to copy and paste commands and such. I found a very nice macro to reduce file size called ExcelDiet located at [url]
Option Explicit
Sub ExcelDiet()
Dim j As Long
Dim k As Long
Dim LastRow As Long
Dim LastCol As Long
Dim ColFormula As Range
Dim RowFormula As Range
Dim ColValue As Range
Dim RowValue As Range
Dim Shp As Shape
Dim ws As Worksheet
Application. ScreenUpdating = False
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
On Error Resume Next
This code works fine until I share the workbook. Can anyone take a look at this code and provide some information as to why this might be happening?
Here's the details:
Same file shared by many users in the office. File is maybe 2200 rows long and 20 columns wide. Last column is a text field where users can explain variances. Cells in the last column are wrapped and the rows auto-fit on the height. Zoom is set at 100%.
One person opens the file and it looks fine on the screen. Print preview also looks fine. File prints out perfectly.
Another user opens the file and it looks fine on the screen. BUT, print preview shows that the bottom line or lines of text is cut off. File prints exactly like the preview showed with clipped text.
Both users can point the file to the same printer, but that doesn't seem to change anything. Still prints with text clipped for one person and perfectly for another...
If I wanted to use excel to track inventory in/out, is there any way I can do the following?
I have a barcode scanner and I wanted to be able to quickly add and subtract quantities.
So, I want to create three fields at the top of list, one with the function to Add 1 to quantity, one to Subtract 1, and one simply to find (well I guess I can use excels find feature, but that would be an extra step)
When I scan a barcode into the "Add 1 to quantity" field (which only appears at the top of the page), excel will automatically add 1 to the corresponding field next to the item that has that UPC number. The same for Subtracting 1.
can we change the author of shared excel and will this allow the changed author to make changes in no. of days to track history
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am using excel 2002 and I have found that when the workbook is shared and getting 2 or more users to open the workbook around the same time brings up a read only type prompt box for the 2nd ( and 3rd) user when the book hasn't fully opened for the 1st user/is still fully opening. Is this a limitation within excel or is there a way around this for example via vb code.
I know the more data a workbook has can cause it open a lot slower but is this the same for shared mode.
I have a file that has an original file format .xls
I saved as .xlsx (I am using Excel 2007) with a different name so I could make changes to the new file without changing the original.
That turn off compatibility mode.... but it is still "shared". While it is shared I cannot delete a sheet. In fact, I really don't even want it to be shared. If the file is open, and someone else opens it, I want it to open as "read only". I cannot uncheck the "Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. This also allows workbook merging." checkbox because it is greyed out.
Im using Excel 2010 and have a data connection that I want to use. I added it to a regular workbook and it updates perfectly as-designed. However, I need this feature to work in a shared workbook, but it doesn't.

We have a Shared workbook on our Server and about 5 users work at the same time every day. I want to understand something, If I open it I can see all the information in it, all the rows and so on, but if the same workbook is opened by another user he will see other information, the rows aren't the same as in my case. Why does this happen ? I would like the second users to see the same information as I do.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a workbook with a combo box.
ActiveX control? (=EMBED("Forms.ComboBox.1","") They are filled using named ranges on another worksheet and work fine. The problem happens when I share the workbook the combo boxes become completely non-functional. They don't even drop down when clicked.
I've added some code the adds a button to a worksheet
Public Sub AddSheetPrintButton()
Dim btn As Button
Dim t As Range
Set t = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(1, 6), Cells(1, 7)) ' button position
Set btn = ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(t.Left, t.Top, t.Width, t.Height)
With btn
.OnAction = "sheetPrint"
.Caption = "Print Sheet"
.Name = "Print"
.Font.ColorIndex = 10
End With
End Sub
This works fine until the workbook is shared!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Excel 2003. Looking for a way to find out whether some data I want to delete in a sheet is used by a formula somewhere else within the file. Is there a way to check that? In other words, I have the number 500 in A1, and I want to delete it, but I don't know whether it will impact a calculation on another sheet that involves that value in A1.
