Worksheets & Cell Referencing #REF! Error

Mar 18, 2009

I have 3 worksheets:

Lets call them RED, BLUE AND GREEN

Essentially GREEN pulls Values from BLUE and BLUE pulls Values from RED. Red being the base worksheet from which everything is calculated.

In my GREEN workbook I have the following
=MIN('BLUE'!H14,'BLUE'!L14)

And this will work fine.....Until I press a clear Worksheet button that has been implemented on the RED worksheet (button was not implemented by me and I do not wish to edit anything with respect to that button)

When RED is reset the #REF! Error will appear in GREEN. This is fine because it cant find any values From BLUE. However when I do input new values into RED, which in turn updates BLUE which is where GREEN in theory should then be able to pull the results from.... But it just stays with a REF! error.

Is there anyway i can permanently set a CELL to have the following code =MIN('BLUE'!H14,'BLUE'!L14), no matter what happens to other cells?

Referencing Cell When Looping Through Worksheets?

I'm getting an "Invalid or Unqualified Reference" error at the 'division=.cells' line when I try to go through each worksheet and paste some info from there onto a summary sheet. I know there is probably a simple solution that I am oblivious to.

Code:
For Each sheet In ThisWorkbook.Worksheets
i = 1
division = .Cells(2, 1)

VLOOKUP Cell Referencing #VALUE Error

Oct 1, 2009

I'm working on a spreadsheet for a gaming community. This sheet is used by more than 3000+ players and growing. It has to be updated roughly twice a week for new inventory items, which can range from 1 to 3 new items weekly.

To make it easier on new and existing members, I want to create a way to make updates with the spreadsheet easier and to allow players an easier way of updating the spreadsheet rather than re-entering all the data over and over again twice a week.

So, I started to use VLOOK in some formulas to look at the data and pull the corresponding information. However, this same information is used throughout the sheet and referencing this information has brought about #VALUE errors that I cannot seem to figure out how to get around.

I've included a copy of the spreadsheet to download and review in hopes of finding a solution.

Here's what this speadsheet is doing:
MyInventory is where the players will enter all their items, with some being drop-down selections and manual entry.
The LookupedInventory worksheet is where the VLOOKUP (columns C,G,J,Q,etc.) formula is used to look up entries in the MyInventory worksheet and pull their values over to the LookupedInventory worksheet.
Now these values from the LookupedInventory will be carried over into two other worksheets, InventoryTableAttack and InventoryTableDefense. These two worksheets are where my #VALUE errors are appearing. If the cell referenced is empty, the #VALUE error appears. However, if the cell references a number, the rest of the formulas tied to to this cell reference work. However, since there are errors, the rest of the worksheet cannot function until I fix all the #VALUE errors.
So, what I'm seeking is to see where my issue is and what I need to do to fix it.

If I need to take a different approach to this, please let me know what that is and how to go about doing it.

I've even thought about a macros that copies and paste all the current data from an older spreadsheet to the new one, but I'm not that good at macros. If I can stay away from macros, that would be good, but if not, then I'll have to dig in my heels and start leaning.

Referencing Between Worksheets

Dec 29, 2006

here's a simple discription of what I would like to do:

I have two worksheets open, SHEET1 and SHEET2

In SHEET1 I have numbers 1,2,3...10 running in cells A1.....A10

What I would like to do is add up a certain range of rows in
SHEET1 from target values I place in SHEET2

example:
in SHEET 2:
A1 = 3 ( I insert begining row )
A2 = 5 ( I insert last row )
A3 = equation to add up rows 3 to 5 in SHEET1, ie: A3+A4+A5

What is the equation I should put in A3? This driving me nuts!!

Cross Referencing Between Two Worksheets

Mar 5, 2014

I need to set up a system for recording data into a certain way.

I a currently using this formula =IF(sheet1!A1:A20="H","Y","") and it kind of works.

Basically i want it to fill a cell in sheet2 with a "Y" if ony one cell between A1 and A20 from sheet1 contain a H. At the moment it only works if a few of the cell between A1 and A20 contain "H".

Referencing Worksheets In A Loop

May 2, 2006

Trying to write a macro that will reference one cell in about sixteen different worksheets and return the value of each of those cells. Is there an easy way to do this?

ie.

For n = 1 To n = 15

Worksheet(n + 1).Cell("A1")

Return A1

I know this isn't even close to the right code but this should give you an idea of what I'm trying to do.

Cross Referencing Names On Different Worksheets

Apr 23, 2009

I have three different sheets, each with a column of names, titled "list1, list2, list3." I also have a fourth list of names on a sheet titled "masterlist." I am wondering if there is any way I could cross check the three lists against the master list to see if any names appear on the master list but do not appear on any of the three lists. Is there any way I can cross reference the master list with each of these lists?

Syntax For Referencing Other Workbooks / Worksheets

Jul 20, 2012

I'm trying to optimize code by avoiding activating other worksheets, but I'm running into a problem with a match function.

I'm using a workbook called "Template" and then opening another workbook called "DCP" and trying to use the match function to figure out what row data is on. I can get this first line of code to work:

HTML Code:
MatchedRowNumber = WorksheetFunction.Match(Combo, Sheets("Sheet1").Range("A:A"), 0)

However for that to work, I have to activate the other workbook. I want to avoid that and stay within the "Template" workbook. I think I need something like this:

HTML Code:
MatchedRowNumber = WorksheetFunction.Match(Combo, DCP.Sheets(DCPSheet).Range("A:A"), 0)

That one however doesn't work... looks like I have the wrong syntax.

Below is an excerpt for the code in case something is wrong with how I set the variables.

HTML Code:
Sub StockOrderByDCP()

Dim Template As Workbook
Dim DCP As Workbook

Dim MSS As Worksheet
Dim DCPSheet As Worksheet

Kind of lost on how to possibly make this work. I basically need something like:

Referencing A Field With An Error In It

Mar 15, 2007

My problem is I have a field when imported occasionally has a #Value! error in it. Most of the records are fine. As I will be importing it into another DB I need to have the #Value! removed and replaced with a Zero. Here is what I tried. I have a field that is displaying a #value! error. In another field that is referencing that field I wanted to do the following if statement. Basically if that error value is displayed show a zero, else show the value of the square. (Note I also tried it with an IIF but got a # Name? error)

If((Q2) = "#Value!",0,(Q2))

Or should I be looking for an error? When I ran it, It basically gave me the value of the Q2 field.

If((Q2) = Error(#Value!),0,(Q2))

Or is there some other way to get around the error?

Macro Referencing Named Range In Worksheets Private Module

I'm having trouble calling a defined range within a VLOOKUP function in VBA. If the named range is located on the same sheet within which you are running the macro, everything runs fine and all is well in the world.

However, after I relocated the range to a separate sheet (a 'SourceData' sheet to tidy up the user interface sheet), I was getting the following error message:

Method 'Range' of object '_Worksheet' failed

The name is correctly defined - Range("DaysInYear").Select still picks up the correct selection - it's just the VLOOKUP will no longer function correctly.

Here is part of the macro's

#REF! Error Referencing Worksheet After Importing Sheet

Feb 9, 2008

I have a template i'm making that is full of formula references to sheets not yet in existance in the workbook. what i want to happen is this: My code imports data files, renames the tabs to 1, 2, 3, 4... The formulas i already have are set in the CONCATENATED tab.... an example of such a formula is: ='1'!$P2.

so this should work, and yet it doesn't. the sheet is imported as it should be, the tab is renamed to 1, and yet the CONCATENATED sheet still shows #REF for the cell value. if i click in the cell, click in the text bar and enter out, the formula updates. there apparently is no option that i KNOW OF (although i'm sure there is something out there that does...) that will update this without me entering into the text bar and entering out.

Question: how do i manually update all references once the sheets to those references have been imported?

Error Checking Routine - Check Range Values On Various Worksheets And Report If Error

May 29, 2014

Error Check Marco.xlsm

see attached example. I am trying to write an error detection routine that iterates through worksheets that have numeric values for names (ignore text names or alphanumeric). Macro checks range on each numeric worksheet E3:E33 and is supposed to report back on the SummarySheet if any value other than 1 or 0 is found in range E3:E33 on any numeric-name worksheet. Code as follows:

[Code] ....

Problem is that it just reports EVERY worksheet as having an error when clearly most don't (none do I think in the attached example).

Try changing some of ranges E3:E33 to values other than 1 or 0, it still reports all sheets. Why the macro does not evaluate the range E3:E33 properly and just reports every worksheet as having an error?

Lookup Referencing Closed File Returns Value Error

Aug 13, 2008

I have a file created in Excel 2003 that uses a vlookup to reference another file, also created in Excel 2003. The function returns VALUE when the referenced file is closed. I get the VALUE error whether or not I update links upon opening the file. If I open the source file, the function calculates properly.

Here is the formula when the referenced file is open:

=VLOOKUP(A38,'[June Scorecard confirmation.xls]VPSC Summary'!$C$10:$F$22,4,FALSE)

The full & correct path appears in the formula when the referenced file is closed.

Columns C, D & E in the referenced range contain text, column F contains a Sum. This file is linked to another file, also using lookups. The linked area in this file works without problem, but it is a precedent to the calculation in column F.

Both these files reside on a network in subdirectories of the same logical drive. I am using a laptop that briefly had Excel 2007 installed on it, but was wiped clean before it was issued to me.

Error Message When Automating Copy/paste Worksheets

Oct 9, 2009

I have been working on this macro all day and no matter how many different ways I write it I can't seem to get it to finish correctly without giving me an error message. The error messages are different depending on how I write the macro, so what the message says is not important.

I have attached a sample of my work which contains the macro, but I'll post the code below as well. There are two tabs in the workbook. One contains the data("download") and the other is the template("Blank") per say. I need the macro to create a new worksheet using the template for each line of the data ("download")until it gets to the "finalrow." It names the worksheets the value of D3 currently, but I'd like to figure out how to name the worksheets by C3. c3 contains the names of customers, and is duplicated for each product they have purchased. I'd just like to attach a number after the name if it is a duplicate. i.e. Adam, Adam1, Adam2, Adam3 for all "Adam"s.

Look into the code and see if that makes sense. if not, feel free to ask questions.

Error Handling Within Errors (macro To Create New Worksheets In The Workbook)

Aug 12, 2009

I am currently creating a database which involves using a macro to create new worksheets in the workbook. When the macro is run and a work sheet is being inserted, an input box asks the user for a worksheet name.

As you can imagine, the worksheet does not like it when the worksheet name input by the user, is the same as one already existing and so throws up a 1004 error.

In order to resolve this error I have included an error handling code to request the user to input a differnet worksheet name, as the one previously inserted exists.

My problem: It all works fine until the user types in an existing worksheet name twice, so once initially and again when the error handler has prompted a second attempt. On the second incorrect input a 1004 error warning is displayed.

I would like the error handler to keep repeating until a worksheet name that doesn't exist is inserted by the user. Is this possible?

My code so far:

Sub NewTrancheSheet()
'
Sheets("Tranche Sheet Template").Visible = True
Sheets("Tranche Sheet Template").Select

Sheets("Tranche Sheet Template").Copy Before:=Sheets(1)

Sheets("Tranche Sheet Template (2)").Select
Sheets("Tranche Sheet Template (2)").Move After:=Sheets(Sheets.Count)
Sheets("Tranche Sheet Template (2)").Select.................

Blank Cell Referencing

Mar 2, 2009

On the spreadsheet Im creating I am using cell referencing. The user will input data into the blank cells, and cell referencing will put them into another table. Then I add these using an IF(OR(ISBLANK formula.

However, the empty cells come through as 0's rather than a blank cell. As they're coming through as 0's, they're being calculated into the formula, and this is causing problems in my main table.
Is there a formula I can use to ensure that the empty cells being copied over do not give off any other value?

I tried to use a few different IF formulas to only let specific data go through, but it didn't work. I tried to have the blank cells produce a letter so that they wouldn't be calculted in the formula, but letters are also counted as measured values.
