Automatic Time Stamp Cell Based On Adjacent Cell
Oct 19, 2007I am looking to add a function to a current spreadsheet that writes the current date to a cell when another is updated. The sheets function is to have a user record when a particular action has been completed and then remind them after a given amount of time. The user is faced with an option to input a "1" to essentially "start the timer" and then the date that is automatically input by the code will be used to compare with the current date. I have tried the following on the Workbook_SheetChange sub
If ActiveCell.Column = 9 And ActiveCell.Value <> 1 Then
ActiveCell.Offset(-1, 2).Value = Date
End If
But cannot figure out how to eliminate user error. Let me explain. If a user enters a value (will only ever be a 1 to indicate "yes") into column 9 then the date appears in the correct place (two cells to the left) If however a user deletes a value then the date will update one cell too high!? I also thought of using a cell based if statement (if j7 = 1 then today() else "" but this only updates with todays value each time you open where I want the date to stay as the day the cell was updated. The date is going to be used as a way of working out when to change the original value of the cell in column 9 to "".

I'm tring to figure out a formula that will only change the date at 6:00am every day. This way a person working the night shift will not see a change in the date on his sheet at all, only the day worker.

Feb 9, 2007I have three columns - "Start Time", "End Time", and "Elapsed Time". Elapsed time is just end time - start time. What I would like to do is insert rows based on elapsed time.
For instance if start time is 6:00 and end time is 6:10, then elapsed time is 0:10. In this case I would like to insert 10 rows below. Basically I want to insert 1 line per minute (based on elapsed time).

Oct 2, 2007I have a table of repair jobs done over a period of time. I just need to determine during which shift was the repair job done. The time during which the job was initiated is called Notification Time.
If the job was done at, say, 0100 hrs, then it was done during Shift 1 (0000hrs to 0800 hrs)
If done at 0830 hrs, Shift 2 (0801 to 1600hrs)
If done at 2030 hrs, Shift 3 (1601 to 2359 hrs)
I need a formula to allow me to determine the Shift no. by just checking against the Notification Time column.
Restrict Time Entries Based On Another Cell
Jan 23, 2008The 'gist' of what I need is for events scheduled (top of spreadsheet), no school can be placed into an event within 29 minutes (because one-half hour apart IS ok). The time increments are on the left side of the spreadsheet (rows). I'm trying to "automate" somehow so that if we try to plug a school into an event too soon from their last event, the spreadsheet won't allow it.

I would like to be able to manually put in a TIME in a cell, and have a macro run at set times before that TIME e.g. something like
If TIME in cell A1 =(hh:mm minus 30mins) run macro 1,
If TIME in cell A1 =(hh:mm minus 5mins) run macro 2
It was suggested to me to use vba code that would constantly check the time against the system time and as soon as it is 30 mins before the time in cell A1 and the 30 mins flag in cell B1 was ‘N’ then it would run macro 1 code and set the 30 mins flag to ‘Y’ to show that macro 1 had been run.
and that this could also do the same for the 5 mins event

I'm trying to work out how to have cells R11 - Rxx generate the correct date, based on the rest of the calculations.
Please note that the attached is a crude cut down version of the larger spreadsheet, for the purpose of highlighting my problem.
SO, if E7 is changed, subsequently the values in K11:Rxx will be respectively updated.
D12 and G12 are entered manually. (although I'll probably make these drop downs or date choosers at some point...)
Depending on the value in E7 and time in D12, the required break period is listed in K11: Kxx.
The time that these periods of rest are required to occur before is then calculated and listed in O11:Oxx.
I need R11:Rxx to calculated the appropriate date from these calculations, relative to the date in G12.
For example, the rest required in K11, is required on the same day, as such it need to populate with the value in G12.
However the rest required in K13:Kxx, is required by a time (O13:Oxx) on the following day - G12+1
In some case, this time variance could run over 2 or more days.
I figure it's got something to do with the value in D12 also including the date of 0/1/1900.
I'm happy to add hidden cells for formulas/results to work around it, as the end product will print as an A4 document, where many cells will be locked.
Would prefer not go with any VBA unless it's my only option as I haven't done any VBA stuff as yet.
NB (the value in P5 is static only in this example)

Nov 21, 2009i am trying to figure out, how to automatically update time, based on specific city's time zone? Lets say, if the city is dallas, time zone is Central GMT-6. In the next cell, the time shows up as Dallas's local time, instead of local computer time. And this time updates itself after every 2 min.
2ndly, if that city's time is later than 8:59 PM local time, that specific city's cell grays out.

If A2 and B2 on Sheet("Master") are not highlighted, copy and paste them into Cell A3 and B3 on Sheet("Job List - Numeric"). Do this up to Row 50 on Sheet("Job List - Numeric"). Once Row 50 is filled, jump to pasting to D3 and E3 on Sheet("Job List - Numeric") and continue up to Row 50 and so on....
I need to do this on one sheet in numerical order based upon Column A and another sheet in alphabetical order based upon Column B.

This code checks the need for lights at a facility.
It first checks to see if the facility even has lights by cross-referencing a value in the record with a facilities database.
If it has lights, it then checks to see if they are needed. If the rental goes past the sunset time, then it needs lights. Sunset is determined by cross-referencing the date value in sheet1! A9, with the sunset database.
If it needs lights, variable lghtson is calculated equal to "sunset"-30 minutes.
As I step through this code:
WorksheetFunction.VLookup(facb, fac, 6, False) = "Y" Facility has lights.
Check to see if lights are needed.

sunset=0.879166666666667 which is 9:06PM. This is a proper value from the lookup.

lghtson = sunset - 0.5
0.379166666666667 = 0.879166666666667 - 0.5 (9:06 AM)
This is not the value I was looking for. I was looking for 8:34PM (0.856944444444444)
Move Latest Updated Cell In Sheets In A Workbook Based On Time And Date
Mar 1, 2014 I am having rows of data, that i will be updating from time to time. I want excel to move the latest updated rows, in any column if updated, to move to the top, to easiy know that i updated those records. It should be that when i updated more rows than one, then the first updated cell would be in lower, in order, than the latest updated cells. I do not want any cumbersome vba. I want in formula or in conditional formatting. The row no may be total not limited to some rows.
Because, you naturally would have updated the 200 th record and would have saved. It saved as it is, so when you next opens it it is there, but how can i know that that is the last row of data i edited.
Calculating Time Owed Based On Time Worked

I have a sheet (attached) which works out hours worked, and if the amount is under a specified target, it counts how much time is owed. The problem occurs when someone works more hours than the specified target.
I guess I need an IF formula of some kind, to say if the figure is over the target, to put zero in the hours owed column.
Delete Date & Time Cells Based On Time
Dec 6, 2006I have a large dataset where the first column is date and time i.e. "20/01/2005 03:41:06" and I want to delete certain rows based on the times. I have already tried playing about with macro's but failed fairly spectacularly so far. I have code from someone else to delete cells if the value equals a certain time but this doesn't work as the cell contains the date too.
I have already recorded one macro to reformat the data to as the software return 10 timestamped samples per hour and I want 8 i.e. every three hours so there is constant separation for statistical purposes. Both the macros are shown below so you can see what I have.
Ideally I would like to replace the line - If (r.Cells(n, 1) = TimeValue("22:41:06")) ............ - with one that reads - If (r.Cells(n, 1) CONTAINS TimeValue........ - but I don't know if that is possible? If not is there a way to separate the time from the date into 2 columns and then I can delete rows based on the time column using the code below? .......
Adding A Time Offset Based On Time Of Day
Oct 1, 2008I am replicating a Matlab program which calculates tide levels at different times of day. I need to replicate it in excel to speed up data analysis and I am nearly there.
what happens is I need to apply a time offset to the time of high tide at port a based on the time of day, so if it is:
between 00:00 and 06:00 the high tide at port b is 81.6 minutes after the peak at port a
between 06:00 and 12:00 the high tide at port b is 74.56 minutes after the peak at port a
between 12:00 and 18:00 the high tide at port b is 81.75 minutes after the peak at port a
between 06:00 and 12:00 the high tide at port b is 79minutes after the peak at port a
I tried this formula, where CO2 has the time/date of the high tide at port a:
=IF(CO2<0.75,IF(CO2<0.5,IF(CO2<0.25,CL2+(81.6/(24*60)),CL2+(74.56/24*60)),CL2+(81.75/(24*60))),CL2+(79/(24*60)))
The problem is the high tide on 07/01/2005 07:45 is read as 38359.32 rather than 0.32 - is there any easy way to tell excel I'm only interested in the time not the date? I have this spreadsheet setup now to do all the other bits required and i is just the timing that is a problem.

If this value is longer than 10 minutes the cell next to the duration time contains the value 'Break Over Ten'. This is only true when the time is outside of 12:00 to 14:00. If the break is within this time period it shows 'Lunch'.

May 23, 2008I have a protected worksheet. Users wish to be able to track changes in the input cells. The suggested approach for this is to temporarily disable sheet protection and allow them to change the font color, then protect afterwards. What I would like to do is:
i) check whether they are in an input cell
ii) if so, then prompt the user with the 'Font Color' dialog box
iii) apply the font color selected to the input cell
I'm struggling to find the dialog box I need. I can launch the one to change the interior color, no problem (Application.Dialogs(xlDialogPatterns).Show). But that's no use to me, I just want a color palette that specifically relates to the Font Color
