I have a file that has 114 rows of data. One for each office I'm working with. I need to insert 6 rows in between each of those rows and type text into some of the fields. I recorded a macro (since I don't know how to write one), but it uses a static location for the rows and data, as opposed to a relative location. So, what happens is, I get the same data entered over and over again. Also, even if I get this to work right with a relative location, I still would have to run it 114 times. I'd like to create one macro that would do the entire document. Here's what I've recorded: .....
How to change from absolute references to relative references.
Example : ws.Range("G" & NextRow).Formula = "=" & Range("H" & NextRow).Address & "+" & ws.Range("I" & NextRow).Address This code return the absolute references---> =$H$365+$I$365 , and i want change to relative references, like this ---> =H365+I365
I was wondering if i could get a hand with inserting a file. Is there a way to insert the file and have it placed a relative distance from the insert button without using cell references?
I use an image analysis program ImagePro which can call Excel within it's macro language (which seems to be visual basic). I looked up on this site how the change the drive (ChDrive command). But still when the Excel section (after With oExcel) executes the default file location in the browser is in My Documents on the C: drive.
Prior to this code Excel has been launched by this ImagePro macro, and a file Cumberland Template has been opened from the C: drive. Now I would like to do a Save As, but have Excel start at the I: drive location.
I have a workbook with approximately 30 worksheets. This workbook already has a massive macro that I've written. I'd like to write a code that will take a designated worksheet, check to see if there is data in cell A2, if so, save it as a new workbook.
The name of the workbook should be predetermined, for example "SIA April(Previous Month) 2008(Current Year) P-Card Import Template.xls" The months and years will need to change.
The file to save it in will also change monthly- for example- G:PCard DirectoryCloses2008 ClosesApril(previous month) 2008(current year)
I have created a List in excel of various tasks. (See attached example.) Each row contains one cell with a function which equals the cell above it and to the right. So the function for cell C3 would be D2. The only importance is that the cell mirrored is always the cell one above and to the right. However, now I would like to be able to rearrange this List, but the “one up and to the right” function will now be all over the place.
Is someone aware of a function which will target a relative location instead of an exact cell?
I have a spreadsheet that has the date in one cell. I want the date to remain static unless I make a change. ie, when I first create the sheet I want a static date to go into this cell. Then I only want this date to change if any changes are made to the workbook (several sheets), I dont want the date to change everytime I open the spreadsheet. It must however update if I make any changes to particular cells on various sheets.
What I need is lets say I have 3 columns Name, Date & Time
Name field has a drop down menu having a list of names
Now what I need is - lets say from the dropdown menu someone selects a name - THEN at the same instance the Time & Date fields gets populated with the Date & Time of that update.
and that Date & Time shouldn’t change if someone selects the same or different name in the row below
Kindly assist in lay man terms as I am a novice to Excel
REQUEST 2
In this format what I need is like above , the start date & start time should update real time ONLY when a name is selected
and when the End date is selected the End time , Date Elapsed & Time Elapsed should Populate automatically.
However there should be NO effect if data is entered or changed in the Request Id or Issue Cells - basically the triggers should only be Name field & End date Field
I have an Excel workbook with multiple worksheets. One of the worksheets has a live data feed for stock updates. I extract data from the live feed (it's in multiple sentences) and pull it into 6 columns. In another worksheet, I pull those 6 columns into the sheet through the use of Index / Match. That second sheet has additional formulas that essentially analyze the data. As the data refreshes, the existing data moves down the column.
What I didn't think about was the fact that at times, a stock may be listed several times because different brokers are offering updates. Because I used Index / Match, it will look for the first match from the top and display that data in the relevant columns. Unfortunately, some of the data needs to stay with the matching row (and stock ticker) but because of the way I wrote the formulas in Index / Match, it just finds the first matching target and displays that data.
I can correct this by using an absolute reference ($) but I can't find a way to "copy down" formulas using absolute references. I also have one column of cells that contain 1 absolute reference and one relative reference.
I'll re-write this manually if I have to but I have 1,800 cells to change.
I am in the middle of my ICT A-level coursework and im required to design a spreadsheet with a grade system (A to F). The students have individual target grades and recorded grades from tests and homework will also be dispalyed. How do i change the colour of the cells of tests or homework depending on what target grade the student has. I will have to do this for about a hundred students, so conditional formatting isn't really an option to do each individual cell. I'm not familiar with coding, but can learn. Not sure if a formula can solve this either.
I have used the search function of the forum for this question but have not found anything regararding this.
which part of this macro I need to edit to make it open a folder I want?
Sub OpenFolderRequest() YesNo = MsgBox("Would you like to open the folder to see" _ & vbCr & "which files are currently there?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Open Folder?") Select Case YesNo Case vbYes myval = Shell("c:winntexplorer.exe c:winnt", 1) Case vbNo End Select End Sub
I have tried changing the (c:winntexplorer.exe c:winnt) to the location name of the folder I want to open (S:Stock ControlSTOCK CONTROLOrder Confirmation)but it doesn’t seem to work.
When I use the GetOpenFilename() method, it seems to default to the particular users My Documents. Is there a way to force it to default elsewhere like a share drive, or the users desktop?
In the same line of thought, if I have a file named TestFile.xls. and I want to try to open it from the users desktop if they have it, how can I do this, since their desktop location is different than mine?
I created a drop down in a file that contains a list of locations. The people that run these locations have to input data (mileage) in other areas of the worksheet. Is it possible to have the data in the cells change as someone changes the location in the drop down so the information is not lost or overwritten each time?
I am really trying to avoid making a workbook with several tabs.
The cells that are colored blue are the cells that the people will have to put input into. I would like to be able to keep the data from all the cells that are blue each time they change the location. The rest of them are already set to change with the location change via a formula. Those are all based on data that I pulled and was able to provide.
The comment boxes keep changing shape and location in my spreadsheet. Some are completely smashed together, while others are extraodinarily wide. I had them all to the right of the cell they applied to; but now they are all over the place.
I have a line in my VBA code that i need to change the location of Sheet1 to another workbooks. Instead of Match at Sheet1 at the same workbook I need to match with sheet1 at another workbook called ("Master.xls). The Original Line:
I am trying to achieve can not be based on a range of rows or cells it must as this data is imported from a forecasting application and the location of the targets may change.
Perhaps an offset to the current selection can be used some how, but have a look-see if you know where Im coming from.
'I have used this to find a target in a data range.
Dim r1 As range
Public Sub FindDataIn Range(r As Range, target As Variant)
Set r1 = r.Find(target) If r1 Is Nothing then Msg Box target & " was not found" Else r1.Select End If End Sub
'Then I inserted and Named this procedure to find the data on various assumptions or targets - SUCH AS THE VALUE "14306".
Then I write this again for another Target such as 14307 and it repeats
The result is that it finds the target cell I get an empty row above the two rows that contain that target. (LET ME EXPLAIN WHAT I MEAN BY TWO ROWS)
The thing is there are two rows containing 14306 in that range and the range is sorted ascending so that they are positioned one under the other. Each row has different forecast totals beside this number because one is an export SKU and one is a Domestic.
What I want to do is combine the two rows as one with one row of forecast totals for the number rather than two.
Like this: 14306big Widget Domestic 26 89 (This is combined as a new row)
Instead of this: 14306big Widget Export 12 14 (These 2 rows are then deleted) 14306big Widget Domestic 14 75
Also the Forecast totals run across 12 columns (one for each month) and then there is a column for year totals of each row that needs to remain the same.
Most important this here is this cannot be based on a range it must as this data is imported from a forecasting application and the location of the targets may change.
I have the following code written but I'm wondering if it's possible to modify this to change the red line to update to the path that the workbook is saved in? Meaning that User1Folder1 would change but [Workbook1.xlsm]Sheet1'E1 would always be the same.
So this is what I am trying to do, I have a column in my data that is for telephone numbers. When I receive the file some of the fields are blank in that column. I need to add to my current macro a part that evaluates the column for blanks and adds a static telephone number in the blanks (up to the last row of data in the file). I have been able to accomplish this with the following:
However, when the file that I receive has a telephone number in all the fields the code breaks at this point. I have tried On Error Resume Next, but that just replaces all the remaining cells in the column with the static 1112223333..
I can record a macro that will sum a column of data at the end of data in that column - simple; my problem is getting it to work on other workbooks that have a different amount of rows in it. I tried recording the macro using the relative button as well as without using it, but either way I do it, I can never get it to work on a different workbook. For example, I record the macro, then remove a couple rows after to simulate running on another workbook, and then when I run it, the sum gets put in the cell that used to be the end of the column instead of the real end of the column…Same is true if I add some rows. I don't know if I am using the right terminology below (OK, I know I'm not) but it gets the message across best when I say I think I need something that will do the following (substitute "code" for "make believe code"):
1. Go To cell F1 2. Go To last entry In this column 3. Move down one cell 4. Sum F2:Fx (where x = one cell above current selection - the last populated cell In the column With data In it before the sum)
Instead of this (what I have right now)................
How can I run a DOS .bat (batch) file from within a Macro? This is what I came up with so far and it seems to work. The only thing is that I need this to have relative paths, running from the same directory the Excel Workbook is in.
I have recorded macros in the attached file to highlight cells that contain matching initials by using conditional formatting on the first cell and copying it to the remaining cells. The problem is that if rows are inserted above that change the first cell reference then the macro no longer works properly. Is there a way to use a relative cell reference within the macro? The macro buttons are in cells A4 to A13. I have no VB experience and created the macros by recording keystrokes and using tips found in this forum.
This one is a two parter. Part I is a bit of a necessity and Part II is a nice to have that would save me a boatload of time.
Part I: I need to assign a macro to a specific object in a cell. I've seen the code for targeting a static cell, but my data can be filtered and sorted.
For example, I have a cell in I6 that has text "Partial Deployment" that I want to run a macro on. If I were to sort alphbetically, this cell could end up as I20.
How to assign a macro to the text inside the cell? Also the text is not unique.
Part II: I would like to write a macro using relative referencing for similar to the below:
When user clicks on said object from Part I, the macro reads the corresponding column in that same row and users that to filter data on a separate spreadsheet.
Example: User selects "Partial Deployment" in cell I6, the macro references cell E6, copies the number "191", and uses that number to filter data on a separate spreadsheet.
This recorded macro inserts a line below the cell that active when it was first recorded. It then copies some text and a formula to the line that was created.
Sub Macro11() Rows("10:10").Select Selection.Insert Shift:=xlDown, CopyOrigin:=xlFormatFromLeftOrAbove Range("A9:E9").Select Selection.Copy Range("A10").Select ActiveSheet.Paste Range("H9").Select Application.CutCopyMode = False Selection.Copy Range("H10").Select ActiveSheet.Paste Range("F9").Select End Sub
If you run this macro again at a different cell position, it goes back to the first starting position and repeats the same action. I see that the cell references from the first recording are fixed in the macro. I can't figure out how to make the macro use the new current cell position as the starting positiion when it runs again.
I have a macro in excel that saves to an external text file, but the excel workbook (and the text file) will be copied to different folders so i need it to alway read the file from the location the worksheet was opened from. I hope that makes sense
Ive tried using ActiveWorkBook.path but that doesnt work, maybe im just using it the wrong way
