Dynamic Cell Range For Sparklines?
May 6, 2014
I want to use the offset function in a named range to be the data source for a column of sparklines, I want the sparkline to grow incrementally as data is updated per month.
The data in the table I want to add sparkline to is pre-calculated with SUMIFS formulae, and updated monthly from a dump of detailed data. I am trying to automate this as much as possible, and have pre-calculated future performance data in the table. I used an IFERROR to return a hyphen for the future reporting months.
The problem is, the sparkline is reading the hyphen as zero value, and the sparkline is showing as if it was reporting data to the end of the reporting period.
So my question is - is there a better IFERROR option that wouldn't be read as data, or is there a way to define the range by date compared to a data date?

I have data in 2 columns as follows:
Col. ACol. B
10 15
10 14
10 15
6 13
12 5
14 8
10 10
13 6
9 14
10 9
Data in Col. A is converted as a line sparkline and data in Col. B is viewed as a Column sparkline.
I wish to view both the sparklines superimposed on each other in the same cell using excel's native sparkline option (not a third party software). Is it possible using some sort of Excel wizardry?
Sample file attached : sparkline.xlsx

I am generating sets of data in Sheet2 to be used for Sparklines in Sheet1. These Sparklines will sit in Column D alongside other pieces of data. The data needs to be sortable by Column A which is a list of Cities.
When sorting my data, Z-A for example, all the relevant data sorts just fine but the Sparklines do not move with the rest of the data.
Is there a way to make Sparklines move with Column sorts?

I am experimenting with sparklines and wanted to know if there is a way that I can lookup the last 12 results of a particular field and return a sparkline for that.
For example, on my report tab I have a list of names in column A and in my data tab, I have a list of the same names with a different value in each column (each month).
I want to have a sparkline beside each persons name in my report tab which will lookup the last 12 months of data for that person and display it in a sparkline.

I want to know all times this one presents the number 3 in the last 10 cells of the A column
For a static range I use this function
= COUNTIF(OFFSET(A16;-10;0;COUNT(A:A));3)
If I add a new cell which is the function for a dynamic range?
I can refer to the cell with this function = ADDRESS(MATCH(300;A:A);1)
but not as integrate it.

I have a example. I have 4 columns. first 3 columns ID, C1, C2 have the input data. Under a ID we have multiple number of rows. In this example we have 4 rows for ID1. But in real time it can be any number of rows under a single ID. When I click a button the values under ID 1 should get concatenated and stored under the Concatenate column.
I tried some macros but i cant get the logic behind finding the dynamically changing row counts under single ID.
ID
C1
C2
Concatenate

I found dynamic range name across columns:
=OFFSET($A$1,0,0, COUNTA($A:$A),COUNTA($1:$1))
which expands across Columns in Row 1.
What if we don’t know range to be named in which row or column starts?
What will be a formula (assume range starts on cell named “BegRng”)?

I would like to create a dynamic range of numeric type in a single column. Only the precise position of one middle cell is known, let's say $A$20, but the range is supposed to extend above and below $A$20 and to finally include all adjunctive, positive and negative numbers in that very column.
Having read the ozgrid-resources on dynamic ranges let me experiment with the following line, however, it seems to include all entries in the column disregarding the format type or the fact that they should all be adjunctive (meaning that wherever there's a text entry it should be seen as the natural end of it): ....

I have a range which will change in size & in content, & I want this to be a Named Range at whatever size it is.
Reason I want to is because I want to make a Validation List with this dynamic range. I also want a Validation list which lists the content of 2 or more dynamic ranges which may or may not be on the same worksheet - is this possible?
i.e.
First dynamic range: called "Milestones" at A11
Second dynamic range: called "Activities" at A25
& make a Validation list that will list content of both

In the attached spreadsheet I am trying to always reference the sum column from Qty in Det Est.
This is because the number of roads changes for each project.
I created a dynamic range name surfacing with the following formula:
=offset(qty!$a$1,0,0,counta(qty!$A$A), counta(qty!$1$1)).
My question is what formula do I use to reference the sum column for each row on the Det Est Sheet.

Can you use Row & Column numbers in a Formula the way you can in VBA?
I want to do the same as Range(Cells(5,2)) in VBA EXCEPT in a Formula
because I want to use named ranges for the Row & column entries. (And I don't want to have to run a macro every time a change is made. The spreadsheet is huge enough already. It's slow on my machine & I have the biggets baddest PC in the company!)
Using Formulas only, (not VBA) I would like to create a Dynamic Named Range, LastUsedRow, which is the ROW NUMBER of the Last Used Cell in Column C
(it would = 470)
Also I have an existing Named Range HeaderRowNum (it = 16)
Currently I have a LOT of formulas like:
=SUMPRODUCT(($E17:$E470)*(--(CO17:CO470>0)))
problem is any new data must be added between Rows 17 & 470
So I would like to create dynamic new forumlas to read like:
SUMPRODUCT( (Cells(HeaderRowNum+1,5) : (LastUsed Row,5)) * (--(Cells(HeaderRowNum+1,93) : (LastUsed Row,93))>0) )...............

I have a spreadsheet where I've disallowed selection of multiple cells using the code in the 2nd box below, but is there a way to override this protection to allow selection of a named range? My reason for doing so is to open this workbook as read only from code in another workbook and copy the entire table. My code for doing that works ok (I frequently use it in other workbooks) but, in this case, my need to disallow selection of multiple cells in this particular worksheet is tripping me up.
This is the code I'm using to try and pull the data into another workbook:
Code:
Workbooks.Open Filename:=ThisWorkbook.Path & "RSL-Jobs-Register.xls", ReadOnly:=True
Application.GoTo Reference:="JobsTable"
Selection.Copy
and this is the code I have in RSL-Jobs-Register.xls which is preventing me from selecting the (dynamic) named range called "JobsTable".
Code:
''' I'm thinking I could have something here like (in plain English) "If selected range "JobsTable" Then"
''' (apply the code below) but I'm not sure of the code
If Selection.Cells.Count > 1 Then
MsgBox "Sorry, operations on multiple selections aren't allowed here", vbCritical
ActiveCell.Select
Exit Sub
End If
The formula for the dynamic named range called "JobsTable":
=OFFSET(Jobs!$A$2,1,0,COUNTA(Jobs!$A:$A)-2,11)

I've got two pivot table reports working off one dataset.
I've named the range Recharge with the formula as below..
=OFFSET('Recharge'!$A$1,0,0,COUNTA('ABC Recharge'!$A:$A),16)
But this uses column A as the longest column... but sometimes it will be column I - how can the formula be adapted ? or can it be ? i've been looking at the Max function and trying to incorporate that but my limited brainpower has gone to mush.

I am having a few problems with dynamic named range in excel 2000.
When adding new data to the range, excel extends the range correctly, but only copies some of the formula correctly. It does not copy the formula that references a cell from another line.
I am trying to create a excel spreadsheet and have a formula =e10-e9, which does not copy down.

I'm working in Excel 2010. I'm trying to create a dynamic range, using the OFFSET function. I've got it working beautifully but as soon as I save it and close the Name Manager the range stops working. When I go back into Name Manager I find all the cell references have changed (from C1:C600 to C1048572:C595 - or some other strange range).
P.S. What it's doing isn't so important as when the cell references are right it works. But just for full info: It's an OFFSET function, starting at A1. It will look at a list of companies and use a Match function to find out how many rows to offset (based on where the first instance of a particular company. And it uses the COUNTIF to make the range the same number of rows as there are entries for that company.
Here is my broken function:
=OFFSET('Map Point'!A1048572,MATCH("Company Name",'Sheet Name'!C1048572:C595)-COUNTIF('Sheet Name'!C1048572:C595,"Company Name"),0,COUNTIF('Sheet Name'!C1048572:C595,"Company Name"))

I am trying to get to grips with the dynamic ranges for pivot tables. I have named a range data and in the refers to section put:
=OFFSET(Sheet2!A1,0,0,COUNTA(Sheet2!A:A),COUNTA(Sheet2!1:1))
I was hoping that then when i go to data > Pivot table and it asks for the range i could put =Data but it tells me that the range is invalid. I have attached a copy at the bottom.

My searches have not produced anything that I could apply to this situation.
I'm trying to write VBA that would:
1. Search a Workbook for Dynamic Ranges.
2. When a Dynamic Range is found the code would:
A. Determine the current coordinates for the range.
B. Change the "Refers To" value From "=OFFSET...." To "=Worksheet_Name $Column$Row:$Column$Row"
3. Save Changes.
4. Close File.
My apologies but I have very little experience in writing VBA. I understand about variables, arguments, and IF/THEN but just enough to use functions within Excel.

I have a range of data that will grow as the days of the month pass but I need to run calculations on this range. The data is 13 columns wide but the number of rows will increase daily. I remember using a formula in the Define Range that would automatically take into account new additions using the OFFSET function but cannot for the life of me think how exactly to do it.

I have been working on part of the code for my spreadsheet and it works fine in the spreadsheet “Databaseform” however when I copied the code to my master spreadsheet “Paul_PartLocDBCombo” it does not work, I get the error:
Method ‘ range’ of object ‘_worksheet’ failed
The code is then highlighted in yellow, the code is:
Set rng = wksPartsData.Range("a1", Range("a65536").End(xlUp))
Meaning this part is incorrect but I don’t know why? To work it: go to Databaseform and press start. Enter 7mm in the product field and press find all. It will then return all the matching results in the userform. Its this I want to try and achieve on the other spreadsheet when the button find label is pressed.

I have this macro named ABC to bring the name ranges to another worksheet. The name ranges are already saved in the workbook with the below name range. I used "***" so that this formular can go to the last cell that has "***" on A column and it worked untill someone typed "(xxx)" and the range now stops right before the "(xxx)"
=OFFSET(Storage_Team2!$A$1,0,0,MATCH("***",Storage_Team2!$A:$A,-1),37)
What would be the best to create the range according to the specific words in a column?

i want the equivalent of this programmed (hard coded) into vba
i don't want to reference to a defined name with vba, because the user can delete that.

I wonder if there is a way to Sum the total of a Dynamic Range so that the summary will be presented in the upper Cell of the summed column?
(please see the attached picture).
The reason is to anable FREEZING of the first row (display the totals all the time even when scrolling down) as the list will get very long after a while.

I am looking to sum a dynamic range and can't quite figure it out. The data expands down rows every week, and I want the sum formula (the final row) at the bottom to include the newly updated rows. I can't dynamically name the numbers to be summed because the dynamic named range will include the sum number and create a circular reference. For example:
5
4
3
2
14
the bottom row (14) is the sum. Next week, my numbers are
5
4
3
2
5
19
I have a macro that will automatically put the sum formula in the correct row and column, but can't quite figure out the formula.

VB:

Selection.Borders(xlDiagonalDown).LineStyle = xlNone
Selection.Borders(xlDiagonalUp).LineStyle = xlNone
Selection.Borders(xlEdgeLeft).LineStyle = xlNone
With Selection.Borders(xlEdgeTop)
[Code] .....
Here the columns "B" and "L" shall be constant, but the number 16 may vary depending upon the number of lines in the sheet.
