View 2 RepliesI am using a lot of linked reports that have to be rewritten each month. For example smaller formulas look like this:
=('S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$228*2)+'S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$262+'S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING201311 November[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]Production Parts'!B$292
What I want to do is extract the file path from the above formula and make it a composite of several cell references.
So what I need is to have a cell where they can change the month and another where we can change the year. So I set up several named cells that look like this:
_MONTH =11 November
_YEAR =2013
_JOBCARD ='S:PUBLICProductionJob CardsMOLDING
_PATH =_JOBCARD & _YEAR &"" &_MONTH
I tried several versions, I am hoping for something like this:
=('_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$228*2)+'_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$262+'_PATH &"[440A SIDE SPOILER JOB CARD.xls]"Production Parts'!B$292
I have inherited an Excel workbook in which the formlas all contain cell names (and there are thousands of names in this book). I need to find a way to change from using cell names in a formula back to a standard absolute cell reference but have no idea how to do this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to rotate a Line Chart 90 degrees. I tried using an XY scatter chart but my Y-axis would be time values which are somewhat random but increasing. I would like to keep the spacing between plot points consistent (Y-axis spacing). I could simply use a number list for my Y-values to get consistent spacing but then I lose the time information. I don’t necessarily need the time value on the Y-axis if I could get the information to display when mousing over the plot point. Any ideas on how I could accomplish this?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a large workbook with LOTS of large formulas. However they dont contain $ characters before the ranges as I haven't needed to manipulate them til now. Now I am changing the sheet and I cant seem to move or copy these cells without the ranges whithin the formulas changing! Is there a way to do this? If not is there a way in VBA that I can check through selected cellls and enter a $ before all the ranges?

I set up formulas to count text characters in a range of cells. I'm tracking attendance and payments for a small yoga studio.
All I need to do is count "Y"s for prepaid attendance and "DI"s for drop-ins. I have the formulas working but they are absolute so inserting a row will break my sheet.
=COUNTIF(E14:Z14,"*Y*")
=COUNTIF(E11:Z11,"*DI*")
I have a formula that references data on another spreadsheet with multiple worksheets. I have a new worksheet for each month (Jan, Feb, Mar, ...).
How can I copy formulas in series that keep the cell references the same, but change to the appropriate month. So for the forumula below, I want to fill a series down in a column to represent each month.
Right now I have to go in and edit it to change the month to the next month (i.e. change Jan to Feb.)
An example of the formula is below. In this case, I would want to fill the series down a column and have the months update in series but keep the cell reference the same.
=SUM('[New 2008 sales report linked.xls]Jan'!$M$19,'[New 2008 sales report linked.xls]Jan'!$N$19,'[New 2008 sales report linked.xls]Jan'!$Q$19,'[New 2008 sales report linked.xls]Jan'!$L$47,'[New 2008 sales report linked.xls]Jan'!$K$47,'[New 2008 sales report linked.xls]Jan'!$S$47)
I need to copy a bunch of cells that contain formulas without altering the cell references. I know I could change each formula to contain absolute cell references, then copy and paste special with formulas, but this is alot of work, and following that I'd need to change the references back again from absolute to relative in both locations. So, is there a way to quickly copy and paste formulas in multiple cells without altering the cell references?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've attached a sample document of my data layout. On the Compare tab, I'd like to build a sumif formula that takes the data in column B and uses it to reference the other tabs without having to use a large nested IF statement. For example, on the Compare tab, in cell C2, the formula will know to look at the "JAN MONTH" tab because B2 says "JAN", then the rest of the sumif would be looking at the data in column A and matching it with the data in column A in the correct tab.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've found a few macros that will automate changing cell references from absolute to relative and they work great. However, when I run the macros on formulas that have references to another worksheet or workbook, the macro will not work correctly.

It is getting hung up on the apostrophes and dollar signs. I am fairly new to VBA so I am lost when it come to converting my sheet formulas to VBA.
Code:
With ActiveSheet.UsedRange.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeBlanks)
.Formula = "=RAND()*0+VLOOKUP(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(1,COLUMN(),3),TRUE),INDIRECT("'"&TEXT(INDIRECT("$A"&ROW(),TRUE),"DD-MMM-YYYY")&" Inv'!"&"$J:$K",TRUE),2,FALSE)"

EG: I have a % achieved and $ bonus to pay: however the % achieved & the $ bonus to pay information in the cell will change each month
So... I want the formula to say
=IF (look for cell A1 (which has %achieved) and if found use A2 ($bonus) to give me an answer... otherwise false
The second dillema I have is that A1 has 3 ranges from 100-150, 150-200 & 200-300 to calculate with a set % in A2
how to lock ALL cell references in the formulas within a range in one go, rather than ahving to go to each and every cell and lock them manually?
I have a table with 966 cells all with just one cell reference like this: .....
I am working with a formula that has multiple embedded IFs and therefore references the same cell multiple times. However I am also copying it between workbooks for different companies so some of the information changes which column it is in. For example, there is a formula in AA5 that has 3 references to R4 and 4 to R5 and I need all of the R4 references to be T4 and all of the R5 references to be T5.
I can't do a "find and replace" because the formula in Y5 still needs to reference R4 and R5.
I have been clicking on R4 and dragging it 3 times to T4 (and the same for R5 to T5). It just seems like there should be a way to move all of the R4 references at one time to T4.
I want a total of column F based on criteria in column D and column K from the worksheet named in cell C9. I have put in the indirect function in the first part but am messing up the syntax in the second and third part of the formula. "Indirect(C9&" should be where 'Oct2009' is shouldn't it. Where am I going wrong with the following formula?
SUMIFS(INDIRECT(C9&"!$F$2:$F$11000"),'Oct2009'!$D$2:$D$11000,$C$1,'Oct2009'!$K$2:$K$11000,"YOKO")
I inherited a Profit & Loss (P&L) template from a colleague. She developed it on Excel 2013 and I'm on Excel 2010, but it's not clear that is the issue here (tho, never say never).
The spreadsheet was set up for quarters and I've expanded it (by copy and paste) to 12 months. It has the typical tables: sales revenues, cost of goods, admin exp, etc. Each table has a number (varies from table to table) of rows with a subtotal in the bottom row of each table. There is also a label row above all the tables (this now has the month labels).
The problem: The subtotal (bottom) row of a table uses the formula "=SUBTOTAL (109, ref1)". In the original spreadsheet, ref1= "QTR1" (or QTR2, QTR3, etc.). I'd like to change that to be MONTH1, MONTH2.... However, when I enter MONTH1 or MONTH2, etc. for ref1, I get a formula error. Which I suspect is expected.
What I noticed is that if I highlight ref1 in the subtotal cell formula and then select the cells I want included in the subtotal, the first selected cell shows a "B8". With 2 cells, it shows "B8:B9". Good so far. However, when I get to the last cell before the subtotal row, ref1 changes to "[QTR1]", so the final subtotal formula shows "=SUBTOTAL (109, [QTR1])".
I've tried to change QTR1 to MONTH1, but get an error. I used Name Manager, but QTR1 doesn't show up on the list (However, the tables are named and seem to reference the columns correctly). If I do a "Define Name", the window pops up w/the name entry empty and the "Refers To" containing "=tblName[QTR1]" (tblName is the name given to the specific table (revenue, cost of goods, etc.) and does show up under Name Manager).
I tried an experiment and in the revenue table I deleted (move left) the cells (up to but not including the subtotal cell) under MONTH1, and then inserted (move right) a new set of cells. Now the "Refers To" shows "=tblSalesRevenue[Column7]".
So, apparently, Excel can assign some kind of label to a set of cells. My question is, how do I (if I can) change that label, or name, so that the column of cells I want to use for my subtotal formula will work (MONTH1, MONTH2, etc.). It's not clear that Define Name or Name Manager is what I should use. I looked at the original spreadsheet and there are no Name Manager listings for QTR1, QTR2, etc.
Additional Note: I forgot to mention that this isn't a show stopper, just a nuisance. If I use normal cell references (i.e. B8:B11, etc.) the spreadsheet works fine and as expected. This is just one of those "nits" that I'd like to understand so that I can make the spreadsheet programming more "readable".
I am trying to do a simple copy and paste of number of cells A42:H76 to another sheet (in the same workbook) and have all the references stay when pasting to the new sheet. Instead when I paste it I get #Ref and the cell formulas no longer point to the right cell (they are all off by the same number because I did not paste the cells on the same row/column on the new sheet). Also, they don't refer to the older sheet where I want them to refer to.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need a script that will look for all the formulas in a sheet and increase them by a digit.
Lets say one that particular formula is =(A1-A2)/A2*100
I need the macro to change this to =(B1-B2)/B2*100
I have already programmed in a Find/Replace command, but realised that this would only work one time only. I need generic code that will bump them up each time rather than having to hard code the Find/Replace command for every single cell in the book.

Without having to change each one by hand?
There is a pattern to the numbers.
There are 5 weeks, rows 12, 21, 30, 39, 48 in columns D,I,N,S,X
I want to sum up data for two periods (4&5) from a pivot table using GETPIVOTDATA formula. I've only been successful when I manually type the period values 4 and 5 as is shown below:
=IFERROR((SUM(GETPIVOTDATA("Amount",'Transaction Pivot'!$J$3,"Period",{4,5},"Project",$A7,"Category","T&M"))),0)
However, I cannot get the formula to work when I substitute cell references for the period values 4 and 5. Therefore, the following formula does not work:
=IFERROR((SUM(GETPIVOTDATA("Amount",'Transaction Pivot'!$J$3,"Period",{E5,E6},"Project",$A7,"Category","T&M"))),0) where E5 has 4 in the cell and E6 has 5.
This works
ws2.Range("C5").Formula = "=sum(D5:ZZ5)"
guide me on the syntax when the final column reference is a variable
ws2.Range("C5").Formula = "=sum(D5:" & Cells(5, l_LastCol) & ")"
doesn't work
I am trying to make a formula use an IF statement to identify different cells on a different sheet to pull raw data from.
However I've never tried formulas involving multiple sheets before.
This is the formula i get a circular reference for =IF('Store Input'!I6:J6=Lewis,(('Store Input'!C6:D6/1.2)/100*0.75))
I am not entirely sure what im doing thats causing confusion but ill explain the desired effect.
If a Cell has a value of "Name" then take data from cell "X" and do calculation /1.2 /100 *0.75 on a separate sheet.
Further more i want it to apply to multiple cell possibilities. so like the one above except repeated on different cells.
So as well as the above, i want it to perform the same operation for a set of cells further to its right and so and so forth.
It is suppose to be that if the employee is "FT" and has worked >=4 years the return is 15. But if the employee is FT and has worked 2 years but less than 4 years then it is suppose to return 10 (these are days off) Or if the employee is FT and has worked 1 year, but less than 2 then it should return 5 days off. And all the others in the column get no days off.
I have tried to do it with structured references and with cell references I get a column of zeros!
I would like to paste cells from a contiguous range to a non-contiguous range using a list of cell references as the target paste cells. Both the target and the source cells will be on the same sheet. The source cells will contain an INDEX/MATCH formula - the result in each cell is what I wish to copy then paste. I would like to activate the code by assigning the macro to a button.
The source columns look roughly like this:
Title
Index/match result
Cell reference to paste to
Text 1
23
B5
Text 2
Peter
H7
Text 3
Continuous
D11
Text 4
[BLANK]
F7
Text 5
Membrane
J12
.......
.......
.......
Text 57
Yes
K33
The Target columns are all over, as shown by column three above. I would like the code to run though the full list of index match results all the way to the last 'Text 57' - the code can either skip blanks or paste these also, I don't mind. I haven't written the INDEX/MATCH yet so it may return zeros if there is no data to pull.
I attach the full example here. Entry Form EG.xlsx
Is there a way of writing a formula to create a reference to an external spreadsheet? I have a folder containing 100s of workbooks all based upon a template. I can create a directory listing of this folder using a macro within Excel.
e.g.
Directory listing
C:My DocumentsReturnsFile1.xls
C:My DocumentsReturnsFile2.xls
C:My DocumentsReturnsFile3.xls
I would then like to use this list of file paths to create links to several different cells within worksheets contained in each of these. I know that if I did this manually for each worksheet the formula would be a variation on =[C:My DocumentsReturnsFile1.xls]Sheet!Cell. Is there a way that I can automatically create these external references? i.e using values in column A (directory listing) to create many external references, say in column B
I use my directory list and then a formula or macro populates automatically these external references? The file names in the directory change daily (100s of worksheets!) so I don't want to have to manually input these each time. If the folder containing the workbooks was held on an intranet would there be a similar solution?
Trying to get a problem solved to have a % discount & 'flat' $ discount apply to cell(s) referenced. Product A, B & C are available in 3 different materials. Objective is to allow each material's Max Discount column to apply discount(s) referenced in cell J3 & K3, but only in the order of applying the percentage discount BEFORE the 'flat' $ discount.
Formula in cell C3 works IF the cell "Range to apply discount" I3 = "B3". Works just fine if I allow only one cell to be displayed in I3, but ideally, I'd want this to allow the said discount(s) in cell J3 & K3 to apply to any cells mentioned (for instance, for Product A Material 1, Product B Material 2).
I had tried a drop-down menu using Data Validation, which in my actual project allows me to select ONE cell at a time (out of my list of options), which is okay, but it would be extra useful to have a checkbox option to select which ones to apply the same discount to, instead of creating a massive embedded IF function to have each product in each material find whether it's cell is referenced in 20 different places (if I just copy the already functioning single cell reference tool).
The scale in which I'd like to use this in would be to apply specific discounts for one product, but a different discount for another product or material, and allow the input cell I3 to include a checkbox drop-down option (like the filter/sort), but not remove the data in the table (Range A2:G5 in this example), so I can hide any unnecessary columns and print, showing certain products & materials having a 10% discount, while others having a 20% discount, with an additional $5 off, etc.

I am having a few problems with dynamic named range in excel 2000.
When adding new data to the range, excel extends the range correctly, but only copies some of the formula correctly. It does not copy the formula that references a cell from another line.
I am trying to create a excel spreadsheet and have a formula =e10-e9, which does not copy down.
I want to link a number of cells on one worksheet back to another worksheet within the same workbook. Say everything from Cells A1 to M90.
I find the fastest way to do this link A1 on second worksheet to A1 on first worksheet (by using = and click on worksheet 1 Cell A1).
I then click on cell A1 on worksheet 2, grab small square in bottom right hand side of cell, and drag accross to M1.
While A1 TO M1 is still highlighted, I then grab small square on bottom of cell M1 and drag down to M90.
This makes all cells within this range reference back to worksheet1. In advanced settings I have unchecked for all blank cells to show a zero in woksheet 2.
Therefore I now have what I currently want, although I would like to make all reference absolute?
I tried doing this from the beginning again making A1 absolute at the start, but dragging the cells across and down does not provide the info I am looking for in all cells?
