Notepad To Excel

Jan 23, 2010

I am wondering how would one go about turning a notepad file into an excel file without all the data being lumped into one cell?

for example the following notepad file is in this format:

20060102 190100;139.14;139.2;139.14;139.15;14
20060102 190200;139.19;139.19;139.16;139.18;16
20060102 190300;139.19;139.2;139.17;139.17;16
20060102 190400;139.16;139.24;139.16;139.2;22
20060102 190500;139.19;139.22;139.19;139.21;7

and I would like it in an excel file in the same format but with each group of digits seperated by a cell:

so for example my first line......

20060102 190100;139.14;139.2;139.14;139.15;14

I would like 20060102 in its own cell, followed by 190100 in its own cell, followed by
;139.14, followed by ;139.15, followed by ;14

Closing Notepad From Excel

Sep 4, 2009

In my spreadsheet, a series of macros calls an external program/application three times.

Each time the program finishes, it (and not Excel, as I formerly thought) opens a resource (*.res) file in Notepad, which of course goes into the taskbar. Since I need to run the spreadsheet seven or eight times in a row, the taskbar can get cluttered quickly.

The program opens three different instances of the same filename: iroutine.res.

Is there a way to get Excel to close these Notepad files (if it's simpler to do, it can kill all instances of Notepad) when it finishes running its routines?

Convert The Notepad File Into Excel

May 20, 2008

I have a notepad file that contains data. We need to convert the notepad file into excel and then segregate the data after conversion. Segregation point would be the point where in we can find keyword “Summary”. We need to create a macro that finds the occurrence of summary keyword. Then from the beginning till that summary point cut the entire data and paste in other worksheet. Name the worksheet as “Receivables” or “Payables” or “Fee Payable” depending what type of data that summary contains.

After creating different worksheets we need to format the worksheet in specific format.
For example: I have attached the “Recon1” XL file attached. Under Recon1 – “RECEIVABLES 1” contains the as is data converted from notepad. Later we need to modify the same data using macro as specified in “RECEIVABLES 2” and then as per the format available in “RECEIVABLES 3”.

Excel VBA To Launch Notepad And Save

Oct 14, 2011

I want to know if it is possible to launch a blank notepad from an existing excel spreadsheet and then type relevant "history notes" into notepad and save.

I am creating a manual spreadsheet for the company I am working for which is being used for Maintenance Planning / Scheduling and creating of work orders. Once the work order has been raised and the job has been completed it then needs to be closed out on the spreadsheet and any relevant notes entered in. I am hoping to be able to have a link that opens notepad by the click of a button within the spreadsheet and it allows the user to record any notes against that work order and save. These notes can then viewed by future users.

Excel 2010 :: Copying Data From Notepad?

Aug 27, 2012

I have problems copying data (from notepad, values are in scientific notation) into Excel 2010 worksheet. This problem only occurs with one of my laptops. I also tried this on my partner's laptop and no problem at all.

My new laptop (which I would like to use in the lab) has Windows 7 professional installed on it. I bought my laptop in Austria/Germany, so I changed the language from German to English. I then installed Microsoft Office 2010 on my laptop (which I am also using on my main laptop- without any issues). I have changed my default language to English UK.

The issue is as follows: Here is a small sample of the data from notepad

3.33343e-03 1.51357e-03 0.00000e+00 0.00000e+00 4.96507e-01 3.84643e-03 6.24332e+00 1.81305e+03

I select & copy the data from the notepad (also tried notepad++) and paste it into the Excel 2010 worksheet. This is what I get in Excel:
3.33E+02 1.51E+02 0.00E+00 0.00E+00 4.97E+04 3.85E+02 6.24E+05 1.81E+08

When I use another spreadsheet package (MagicPlot Student version), there are no problems. I have also installed Notepad++ and experience the same issue. So somehow Excel is increasing the value by 5 orders of magnitude. When I copy the values from another Excel sheet into a new Excel sheet, there are no problems. I have re-installed the Microsoft Office suite several times and the problem is still there. I can't re-install Windows 7 as I don't have the installation discs.

Converting CountIFS Formula To Excel 97-2003

Jan 22, 2014

I have attendance tables that has column Y showing the shift to be worked and column Z showing any absentees. I used the following formula to count the number of people off per period.

{=SUM(COUNTIFS($Y$5:$Y$29,AM,$Z$5:$Z$29,$W82),(COUNTIFS($Y$36:$Y$60,AM,$Z$36:$Z$60,$W82)))}

in the above formula AM relates to a list of morning shifts.

The problem I have now encountered is that the system at work is still using excel 97 - 2003 which does not recognise Countifs.

way to adapt the formula to be compatible with Excel 97.

Stop Excel Converting Numeric Values To Dates

Jul 9, 2012

I have looked at some threads related to this issue but don't quite fit what I am on about. I access some data online that appears in a grid format which I copy and paste to Excel. I don't have access to the source data/database. I select and set some query variables and run the query and the result appears in the grid. I copy and paste to Excel that is it. When paste to Excel 2010 I have the choice between "Keep source formatting" and "Match destination formatting". OK, I always choose the 2nd option i.e. "Match destination formatting". That is it. It appears to be a simpler format. Where does the problem come in? Can you help me stop Excel from involuntarily converting numerics to dates when not asked?

The data itself can (at least the part that I'm interested in can) come in 2 different ways. 1) WPS or 2) W%P%S. In case you're interested these represent racing statistics where 1) WPS = Number of Wins, Places, Starts given as whole integer format and 2) W%P%S = Percentage of Wins, Percentage of Places and S is still the integer number of starts. Now, when I run the query and copy these statistics over to Excel, particularly in the form of the 1st type of data i.e. WPS they are in the form e.g. "2-6-12" which means 2 wins, 6 places from 12 starts. The stats literally come across in the form "W-P-S" where I fear the delimiter "-" is causing the date conversion consequences that I have outlined at the start. ALSO, as you could have imagined, I have tried importing the data in terms of the 2nd type of data namely "W%-P%-S", which, on the surface of things begins to solve the problem in terms of the initial paste of the data into Excel. That is true, and yes I have found that this has delimited the data correctly mainly. Although there are still occasional problems. When I import the data this way, I still want the data in the % form as well as the integer form. So I do a great deal of data massaging with what I have and yet in re-converting some of the data back to integer form I can still encounter the "convert to date" problem.

Converting Excel Formula To MS Project Custom Field?

Mar 20, 2014

A coworker is setting up an MS Project...project, and adding a custom field that would convert the Start date field into our Fiscal Quarter Fiscal Week schema, to display as FQFW, e.g. Q1W1. I've written the formula in excel, but I've never even touched Project until this week. Apparently it doesn't take formulas quite the same way as Excel does. I tried using the ''Switch" function in Project, and it worked, but it only accepts 14 arguments, and there are obviously 52 weeks we're dealing with. Would there be a way to do this using VBA? (I know next to nothing here as well.)

Formula where A1 is the Start Date:

Code:
=IF(AND(A1>=DATE(2014,2,1),A1=DATE(2014,5,3),A1=DATE(2014,8,2),A1=DATE(2014,11,1),A1

Excel 2007 :: Converting Formula From Absolute To Relative Reference?

Aug 13, 2013

I am migrating a bookkeepping spreadsheet from Quattro v12 (c2001) to Excel 2007 and have hit a stone wall over relative 3-D references.

In this workbook each sheet holds data for one month, and this includes some lagging-12-month calculations -- that is, summing a range on a single cell for the preceding 12 sheets (including this one).

Unexpectedly, this formula:
=ISUM('201206:201305'!M6)

gives absolute references, even though I put in no dollar signs after the sheet names. This means it gives the wrong answer when copied to the next sheet to start a new month.

I can find no reference at all to converting the above formula from absolute to relative reference.

Converting Macro To Cope With 2007

Apr 1, 2008

I've got the following macro which I used to copy and transpose an array of data from a 'working' workbook (data in columns) to a 'summary' workbook (data in rows). This worked great in excel 2003 as I used all the columns available (ie. up to IV).

I've run into a problem now I'm using Excel 2007 as there are now significantly more columns. The macro is now trying to copy and transpose every single column in the workbook and is taking a ridiculous amount of time.

How would I adjust this macro so that it only copied a set number of columns? I'd like it to copy only up to column ATV in working.

Sub test()
Dim i As Integer, n As Long
Sheets("summary").Columns("b:iv").Clear
For i = 7 To Columns.Count Step 3
n = n + 1
With Sheets("working").Cells(8, i).Resize(11)
Sheets("summary").Cells(n + 2, "b").Resize(.Columns.Count, .Rows.Count) _
.Value = Evaluate("if(transpose(working!" & .address & ")=0,"""",transpose(working!" & .Address & "))")
End With
Next
End Sub
