Macro: Paste Cell From Specific Files To 1 General File
Aug 17, 2009
i have about 80 files that all have the same structure. I also have a general excel file that I need to fill with values from each of the 80 files. I'd like to use a macro that can be applied to each of the 80 files at a time (or at the same time, if that's possible) so I can copy the cells (only the text, not the formula) I need from each individual file to the general sheet.
e.g.,
each file is:
xyz 123
abc 456
ghi 956
I need to copy the "123" to a cell in the general sheet, "456" to a different cell in the general sheet and so on (to be able to choose which cell in the general sheet I am copying to).
I have a current macro that saves each sheet as their own file. The first 10-15 sheets are not really necessary, so I typically delete them once the macro has run. I am looking to add two things to my current code:
1. Add a tab called Start. Make the macro look for 'Start' tab and then just save each sheet to the right of that as its own file.
2. Save each sheet in the macro as just a copy/paste value. They current have a lot of links and it makes each file close to 3MB. That makes it incredibily difficult to paste all in one email.
Here is the current code:
Sub CreateWorkbooks() 'Creates an individual workbook for each worksheet in the active workbook. Dim wbDest As Workbook Dim wbSource As Workbook Dim sht As Object Dim strSavePath As String On Error GoTo ErrorHandler
Is there a way to copy then paste specific cells from closed .xls files in one directory ( more than 500 files ), and how, if all files are with one known password protection( my own files ).
the above information have following header ie. Location, P.O.Box, Address, Tel, Fax and Category.
every time one of the header inforamtion is missing ie. Address or P.O.Box, Or Fax, due to this problem every time cell address of information aganist header is change. supose in first copy/paste Tel inforamtion is in A15, but second time it may be on A13, and 3rd time it may be on A17 and so on.
I want to make a macro which search header ("Location", "P.O.Box", "Address", "Tel", "Fax", "Category" ) from a Range A1:A30. than down two steps to copy header information (75325412) and paste in fixed cell location C1:C5 (C1=Name, C2=Location, C3: P.O.Box, C4=Address, C5=Tel, C6=Fax, C7=Category) in same sheet. and repeat the steps to copy information aganist header from all header in Range A1:A30.
I have a list of asset data (columns A:Z and over 20,000 rows).
I want a macro to find the word TAG in column F then cut off the entire row for all that meet the criteria and paste in another sheet. So I can see both sheets.
I was planning to do was have a macro where the document opened and the cell that information was pasted in was decided depending on which cell was selected when the macro was run.
This worked fine, but it does mean that it needs someone who can edit the VBscript every time there is a new starter or someone leaves so isn't really viable.
What I was wondering, is if it is possible for me to start a macro, which then drags in the information I need from a text file, does all the calculations and rearranging, and then brings up a prompt for the user to open the document they want to paste it in, click on the cell where the pasting will start, and then the macro continues from there?
To try to explain it in as clear a way as I can. Say we have three managers, Alan, Brenda and Charlie. In Alan's team there are 10 staff members. Aaron, Bill etc.etc. If we have just run the report for Aaron, the macro will run, automatically drag all the information in and rearrange it, then it will pause while the user opens up the "Alan" spreadsheet, they select the "Aaron" first cell, click OK or something, and then the macro continues on its happy way?
I have a requirement to search workbooks in a particular folder with specific string in file name. For example, let us assume I need to find a file which contains the name 'RR' in it. The position of 'RR' will vary with files i.e. 'RR' might be present either in the beginning, middle or at the end of file name. All I wanted is to search for file with 'RR' and do some activity and close the file and then goto next file. Similarly, the next search has to be performed with the files containing the name 'BB' in it.
I have rather large Excel file that spans around 245 columns & has multiple users responsible for certain columns. Columns are chunked to provide data about a specific group. Every 72 hours, I need to provide to managers what’s currently on this file in a specific summary format.
I’ve recorded a macro that gets me half way there. Here’s where I’m clueless. After my macro deletes unnecessary columns, what remains are the columns for “Main Data” group + each of the 5 “Business” groups (Investors, Lawyers, Credit, Finance, and Support) which would have identical column headings.
(1) Name (2) Address (3) ID# (4) Control#
Furthermore, for each of the 5 “Business” groups, there are 9 slots (ie- a user can enter up to 9 unique entries for a particular group.)
Example- The Investor group contains 9 slots. Each slot will contain the 4 columns mentioned above. So there are 46 slots in total – 1 for Main Data, 45 (5 groups x 9 slots) for Business groups.
MY PROBLEM: I need a macro to now cut & paste all data from each of the 45 Business groups slots & then paste at the bottom of the MAIN DATA slot.
The final file would be 4 columns (as listed above) wide. Data from each of the 45 business group slots would be one below the other- all of it underneath the data in the Main Data group.
I attempted to record a macro where I’m copying a section’s data range starting from row2 to row4000 (I know there will never be 4000 entries. I did this just to ensure that all future data would be captured) then pasting that after the last entry in the Main Data.
Example- I’d copy data from Investor1 slot(starting at column E2-H2) & go about 4000 rows down. Then I’d press CTRL+Down Arrow key in column A & then click the down arrow one time to take me into 1st empty cell where I would paste my copied data. I was going to repeat this process for the remaining 44 slots.
I’ve added some extra entries to test the macro & the problem is that the recorded macro is pasting data in specific cell location in column A instead for looking for the 1st empty cell in column A & then pasting the copied data.
So far I've gone thought the net & tried to paste in a few VBA posts/tips that I thought would work. Here's what I have so far from tinkering around. I need someone to tell me what to replace the xxxxxxx line with. This would be the language to tell Excel to paste copied data range into the first blank cell in column A. Sub transposedata() Sheets("ConsolidatedYTDReport").Select Range("E2:H4202").Select Selection.Copy XXXXXXXXXXXX ActiveSheet.Paste End Sub
I have a macro that transfers (copy/paste) information from one master file to several other individual files. The macro works, but I would like to enhance it by have it spit out errors in the process as follows: if cell A42 on file VP1.xls is not equal to Cell C35 on file Masterfile.xls then make cell E2 ERROR and fomat E2 bold-red, otherwise do nothing. The macro should continue regardless, I just want it to spot errors. I think this is pretty simple is just a matter of inserting an IF formula in the macro which is something i don't know how to do yet.
Feedback.xls is the file I want to have my macro run in. By pushing a button to run the macro, it will prompt the user to select where their file is on their computer. This file will have different file names based on the end user. For example sake, I've included CAP.xls.
After the user selects their file, it will prompt them to choose which tab to copy and paste data from. Typically, there will be 30+ tabs on their worksheet. For example sake, I've created 5 tabs on CAP.xls. The tabs in their workbook will be labeled as I have labeled mine, M1 CAP, M2 CAP & M3 CAP. Therefore, it should prompt the user to select which tab to choose from.
After the user selects their tab (M1 CAP, M2 CAP, M3 CAP), the macro should prompt the user to choose which row of information to copy. In CAP.xls, I have a few rows of information to choose from. They all start with FY10A1, FY10A2, FY10A3, but this information could change. Once they select the row, it will copy each of those fields onto the respectively labeled fields on Feedback.xls.
I'm trying to make an excel formula that generalizes product names based on their format. So the general format would be XYZ08/T13. I know a ? is equal to a general letter, but is their a symbo that specifically means letter or number. I'm running into problems using the ? because the formula ends up identifying additional items that are not products as products.
I need creating a macro that i can use in a file that will open all workbooks in a specified folder. Each .xls file has a macro that is slightly different and i want to go to one book and run one macro that will make all macros run.
I have a few similar excel files in a specific folder (for my salesman to report their sales) - let's call those files "working files" I have another file (we'll call it "master file") in a different folder, where I update values in column A - and those values needs to appear in column B in all of the working files. it is necessary that each time the macro is been activate, it will "run over" the existing values in column B in the working files, and insert instead of them the update values from the master file.
I am unable to install a disk catalog and have been trying with no success to try and get something in excel that will look at a directory and display the contents of that folder with the file attributes etc
I am trying to save my workbook in a specific directory with a specific filename and to incorporate a date field from within the spreadsheet. I have changed the format of the cell so it does not include / as i know this would not work. Saving it is the easy part but adding in the field from the spreadsheet is where im falling over.
Need macro to search approx 1000+ xls files in folder/directory for common text string "see reference" and then output the file number which is located in cell A1 to new spreadsheet for each file the text "see reference" is found.
I already have code that I believe is supposed to do what I'm trying to accomplish. However, it doesn't fully work. The Macro is below:
VB: Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:Documents and Settingsplp138DesktopExample 1.xls" On Error Resume Next With Workbooks("Example 2.xls")[code]....
Basically, what I'm trying to accomplish is to have a certain range from one file copied, and pasted in the next available (empty) row of another file. While debugging I see that everything is working except for the actual pasting.
What im trying to do is have a macro that will open a file called Blue 1.xls in location "I:SchedulesBlue" and then copy data from cells N13:034. Then paste it into another excel file (Press.xls)on worksheet "Press Break" cell G14.
The data that is copied not always fills up the cells N13:O34 so I need it to go to the next blank cell in column N and paste the information from file Blue 2, and so on for Yellow 1, Yellow 2, YellNR, and Green.
So to summarise I need a macro to open 6 files copy data from the same location on each of the files(N13:O34) then close and paste it into a master document(Press.xls) worksheet "Press Break".
I have a print macro that works very well, but the files print randomly and I have to put them on order as they print. Is there a way these could print in order?
VB: Sub Batch_Print()
Dim Input_Dir, Print_File As String Input_Dir = InputBox _ ("Input directory path containing the files to print")
' Defines Print_File equal to the first Microsoft Excel file found
I have many folders (around 500) - each of them contains a excel file (the excel files have all the same name), ideally I would like to be able to run a macro from a master excel file that would allow me to add a sheet which I would create in the master excel file and add it to all of the excel files that are in the folders. So far I have used the code from the link: [URL]
VB: Sub CopyWorkbook() Dim sh As Worksheet, wb As workbook Set wb = workbooks("1.xlsx")
[Code].....
but when I change it from 2.xlsx to 1.xslx in the code it works just fine, copying the sheets from the file to itself.
This Macro is supposed to get certain totals for me from diffrent pages. Instead of selecting an entire row I want to select specific cells, so when it finds the word total on the sheet, whose location can change often it will return the value two cells away.
I cannot find Excel files that contain specific strings. For example, if I create a new file, and in the first cell type in "123456". Then save the file to the folder c:Temp Then in Windows Explorer, right-click on C:Temp and select "Search . . ." Then under "A word or phrase in the file", type in: 123456 It will NOT find the file! It will find a txt file or a doc file, but not xls files.
I thought maybe it fails because that is a number. But I have hundreds of Excel files with Integer numbers stored in "General" format cells and I desperately need to be able to search them to see which files contain certain numbers. It all started with some files that were sent to me - they work PERFECTLY for searching cells for numbers. So strange - yet if I open the file then save it . . . no changes or edits at all, just Open and Save. . . then the search fails for all numbers in that file. This is so perplexing that I have placed 2 zip Sample files on my website for you to Download: http://www.infocellar.com/Samples.zip
Unzip the two files to any folder. One is named "Sample-Works.xls" - Then do a Windows Search for any number in the file, here is one to try that is in the two files: 174026 And it will list "Sample-Works.xls" but it will NOT list "Sample-Fails.xls", even though BOTH FILES ARE IDENTICAL! I copied the same file twice and then named them. The only difference is that I opened the file Sample-Fails.xls and then immediately Saved it, which as I stated earlier, makes it fail all Searches from that point forward.
I wish for a macro to look in to a directory which remains constant, but then looks within a folder which is specified via a cell value in order to load a specific sheet from each file in to the workbook I am currently using. I wish for the loading to be done without having to open the workbooks manually, so something which opens them copies the data from the sheet specified and then closes.
This data is then to be pasted in to a new sheets within my workbook which are named after the file names that it pulls the "dump" sheet from.
As a side note, I will be using these sheets to produce calculations hopefully automatically as soon as they are loaded. They all have the same "shape" but contain differing data. Will it be easier in the long run for me to use this method of pasting data to new sheets named as their file names assuming there will be around 25 "dump" sheets needing to be loaded or would i be better having them paste all to one sheet just underneath each other with a couple of rows separating them?
My problem is as such; each month I receive an application for payment. This will contain around 20-30 worksheets. However I only need to interrogate around 3-4 specific ones. The worksheets I require contain data describing the plant/equipment a company has purchased, or materials purchased over a period of time. Each month the worksheets are updated with the previous months data appended to the bottom. I am required to established if the equipments have been purchased at the correct rate.
The worksheets are all protected thus in order to interrogate them I am required to copy an paste their contents into a new work book in order to format them and insert my new "assessment" columns. I need to keep the work sheets separate in the new work book as they have different layouts however they have the same layout and work sheet names each month.
I needs a macro which would allow me to open up a new book them copy the specific worksheets from a specific file into the new work book. I then have a separate macro which re-formats them into the layout I require.
I have a macro that pastes formulas as values on specific pages (("CTY EME", "Int Center", " Total SW dist cost", "Int, pubs & oth", "Total". Is there a way to compress the macro ie with the sheet names?
Is there anyway to read a specific cell from many excel files automatically and add them to a new workbook?
I tried to link that specific cell to a new workbook manually but now I have a problem: If I change the name of any workbook that is linked to the new workbook, Excel can't update the new file name
I have approx 11 files in one folder and one master file with same format. 11 files are split user wise and user inuputting the remarks against the invoice in coloum Y and Z in their respective files. I want macro/forumul to collect all the remarks coloum from all users to master files against the respective invoice no.
There's one sheet that has a list of customers (this is updated very frequently). These customers are either ‘New’ or ‘Existing (as listed in a corresponding column) - would it be possible to have a macro that, when run, will place a copy of existing customers into a second worksheet (“view list – new”), and a copy of new customers into a third worksheet (“view list – existing”), with the main worksheet still listing both existing and new customers.
As the main sheet that lists all customers is updated very frequently (with customers being added and removed throughout the day), would it be possible to clear all contents of the other two sheets that each list of 'existing' and 'new' customers will be copied into, before the two lists are copied into each of the two sheets (just to ensure there isn’t any data in there from the previous time each list was copied in).
I’ve given this a go via the ‘record macro’ function - some users of this WB use excel 2000, and others use excel 2007, but it only seems to work on excel 2007 (which is what it was recorded on)…
