Adding Up Values In Nth Cells With Text In The Cells In Between
May 22, 2009
i have a problem adding cells every 5th cell for example i have
=SUMPRODUCT((C10:C67)*(MOD(ROW(C10:C67),5)=0))
this adds every 5th row in this range and it does it right as long as there is no text in the cells in between
it works fine when it looks like this
1
1
1
1
1
1
1
but it does not work when it looks like this
1
1
text
1
1
1
when this happens it appears as #VALUE, meaning an error but i don't understand why if i'm just telling it to look at every 5th row and those specific rows have no text in them
i have a spreadsheet with text in between the cells that need to be added so i need a formula that only adds up the cells with numbers on it, to be specific the numbers are either ones or zeroes.....
I have an excel file with some data in it. I have two columns with one of four words in it. For simplicity I'll call them RED, GREEN, BLUE, and Yellow. A few columns over I have columns "Same" "Good" and "Bad". I'm trying to figure out a way to get excel to put a 1 in the appropriate column, if cell A1 is Red I need excel to look at the word in cell B2 and put a 1 in the "same" column if A1 and B1 are the same word. If the word in B2 is Yellow I need excel to put a 1 in the "Good" column. If the word in B1 is GREEN or BLUE I need it to put a 1 in the bad column. The tricky part is each of the four words RED, GREEN, BLUE, and Yellow have a different set of words that will be called "good" or "bad". So if the word in cell A1 if Green for example it will have a different set of good and bad color words.
So it seems I need four different functions depending on what word is in A1. In the column next to these lists of words I have the date which I'll need to use to give me the sums of same, good, and bad for each day. But first things first. I think I need to use a combination of IF functions and MATCH function, but I can't figure out anything that works. Below is what I'm hoping it will look like when I've got the right formulas.
I am trying to add numbers from cells if it IsNumeric and for some reason in column K the macro doesnt recognize numbers after row 14?
The range column is "E4:E" Search criteria is the letter "R" in column "E" Then using OffSet, I go thru other columns and process data. Most of the macro works except for column K after row 14?
in a cell range a1:a5 I have the following data .5v .25s 1v .75s .5v. I want to add all numbers with v and s separately so that in cell a6 I can have totals of v i.e. 2v and in cell a7 1s
I have some text I wish to add some content to the front and back of it. i.e. the text in the cell is "214.212.134.62" and I want to add "http://" to the front of it and ":9999" to the back to it, so it looks like "http://214.212.134.62:9999" in a different cell.
I am trying to do is add together numbers in the same cell though in different sheets. However some of the sheets will not have numbers in them and it comes up with an error value. How can I ignore this and still have a value be returned if there is no values entered in some cells?
I'm trying to create a shortcut that will allow me to add quotation marks to the begining and end of text in cells. I've tried the following, which works fine when only one cell is highlighted:
VB: Dim rng As Range Dim txt As String Set rng = Selection txt = """" rng = txt & rng.Value & txt
However as soon as I highlight more than one cell, it errors. How to make it work for a range of cells?
I have a spreadsheet where I am adding up figures in columns.
I need to differentiate between 4 different "types" of cells to sum. Cells with figures in them are either green, red or have no fill; and some cells contain no figures at all.
At the bottom of the column, I need to total up all the figures in red cells, as well as all the figures in green cells.
The shading of these cells is not permanent - colours are changed as work progresses, so I need the totals to keep up with this.
If it cannot be done based on cell fill colour, is there any other way to do it, other than the usual long-winded way of @sum(..... etc
i have an excel file which contains data, I want to be able to search this file and to fill the cell and its next 3 cells to the right with a certain colour. Is this possible as I have wrote some vba to do this but, Im only able to search and not fill the cells with the correct colour.
I'm using Excel 2007. I would prefer to stay away from the scripting side of the house if possible. This is basically a 3 day forcast weather chart. The top is the actual weather data, the bottom portion is a color coded reflection of how the weather affects various things.
This product is created in excel, but will be embedded into a powerpoint. It will be updated daily. Here is what I would like. I want the color chart at the bottom to update automatically based on the data I enter above. I have a grasp that I can update the color through conditional formatting, although im not exactly sure what that will look like with all of those cells.
I also figured out that I can insert the letters in those lower cells with something similar to " =IF(C6>90, "T", "") " which would put in a 'T' for Temperature when the temperature got above a certain degree.
I run into a problem when I have multiple factors affecting a single cell. For instance on the example in day 2 of my image. Personnel are affected by Temperate AND UV Index. How would I set up that cell to pull that information from both of those cells and display it accordingly? I would prefer the letters to stay separated by the comma, but I could live without that. The default cell color will be green, with the potential to be yellow or red. I left a few examples of possible situations on day 2 and 3.
I want to add across columns, which is not so difficult but I have to "ignore" the blank cells because of the way my formula works.
I'm not sure of the correct mathematical term for the addition I have to do but here is my example:
in this row are the values
1 2 3 4 5
In the row below I want to add the numbers so the result is
1 3 6 10 15
basically, a cell is always adding itself to the result of the sum from the previous cells. This formula I can handle, (=A2+B1 then autofill the results by dragging the formula across the empty cells) but when there are blank cells between values I get the error message! value. How can I write a formula which will ignore the empty cells?
Column A Column B Column C Column D Column E WIN 2&1
WIN 6&5 TOT 0
WIN 6&5 0
Columns B and C contain no data
The above is represented only of a much deeper and wider spreadsheet, but should do for the purposes of requesting what I need to know. I want to be able to report the number of wins in column E, as a sum of the results in columns A through D all of which have alphanumeric characters in them; some may also be blank.
I have tried various functions to try and split, say WIN and 6&5, but have yet to find any solution to the problem.
I have 10 cells in a column. I have a drop down list in each that is the same in each. If all 10 cells have the same item selected from the drop down list, I want a separate cell to list Yes or No. I've tried a few variations with no luck.
I'm trying to find out exactly how I can use sum product on cells that have text and numeric values. Here's my sample data (6 points):
TN FX1576 20, TN FX1577 25, AZ FX1577 30, AZ FX1577 35, FW FX 1577 40, and FW 1577 45.
I wish to do the following: I want to sum all of the right numeric values based on the first two text values(TN, AZ, or FW). I want to sum these numbers to their respective total cells at the top of the page. So far I can sum the numeric values fine using the following formula: =sumproduct((right(range,2)*1) but when I try to differentiate between the respective locations (AZ, TN, or FW) I get an error message.
Attached is an example of what I'm trying to do along with the formula I'm currently using and yellow shading to represent where I want my respective sums to go.
I have one cell (B10) that will contain either "high", "medium", or "low". Based on one of these 3 values, I'd like to shade cell J15 a color with some white text. I got 1 of the 3 keywords working, not sure how to add in the other 2.
1) I am trying to find a matching value in a table. I have a 5*252 table that starts in B2. So the table goes from B2 to F253. I am trying to match a value in column D (column 3 in the table and column 4 in the spreadsheet) with a value in Column F (column 5 in the table and column 6 in the spreadsheet). The original value is in cell 222 in the table and cell 224 in the spreadsheet.
I tried the LOOKUP, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP functions, but they return nothing but N/A. I use a reference cell or just the value for the lookup value but it does not work. I do not know if I am using the wrong formulas or what, but I have tried various permutations. (question 3 in excel workbook )
2) I am trying to calculate the standard deviation of a column D (contains both numbers and text) divided by column B (first in table). Excel does not appear to have a custom division formula. It has a remainder and a quotient formula which does not apply here. The problem is that the STDEV function does not allow for a division sign (/) in the formula. the STDEV function does ignore texts.
Is there a way for me to divide a cell ( containing both letters and numbers) by another cell just containing numbers and then taking the standard deviation of those values all in one formula?
I regularly run a report that comes out in a slightly different format each time depending on whether or not there is data for specific criteria. for instance (sample attached): criteria a, b, and c are in rows, 1, 2, and 3 in columns. a, b, and c are expected to repeat themselves several times. if there is no data in one instance of b then you may see something like abcacabc.
I'd like to loop through each row in column a, check to make sure that it is the correct value (either a, b, or c) and if not, insert a blank row so I can then copy the data to my final project without having to worry about formatting.
I am using the Find fuction to look for values in cells that contain text in both lower and upper case. I am comparing the values that I have stored in a lookup table. I am running into trouble when the lookup table doesn't match the text cells....
I am trying to create a spread sheet where I have different columns. The columns consist of name and dollar amount. Names may occur more than once. I would like to scan the column with the names and copy the different names to another column. Once that is done, I am hoping to copy the value or sum of all values associated with that name to the column beside it. I am going to have a long list of names with different values and I would like to sort them and add up those values. I have attached an example of what I am hoping to achieve. I am hoping my 'Sum of Values' is actually summed, I left it longhand for explanation sake.
If this has been requested already, I apologize, please direct me to the right thread and flog me with USB cable. I've been searching the forum for an answer for a couple of hours now for the answer to this:
I have a list of words in column A on a sheet and I'm trying to write a formula on another sheet that will check all cells on a pre-populated row and return a value if any of the words from the list on are contained in any of the cells in the row. I've attached an example spreadsheet
I have names in A1, A2, A3 and A4 and in cells B1:C4 I have atendance for am and pm.What I need is it to count if someone was in on a day. So if B1 or C1 or both contains "in" then the subtotal will be 1 and added for each row, so it shows how many are in whether it be for 1/2 or a full day
