Autoclose "This Workbook Contains One Or More Links That Cannot Be Updated" Window
Oct 28, 2008
As before my code sequentially opens over 200 workbooks, extracts data from each of them and pastes it into a register. I do get the occasional workbook which has some links in it which cannot be immediately updated and so Excel produces a requestor window asking if I want to Continue or Edit Links. I always want to Continue and wonder how I can code this. I presume this will be something to do with this line of code?
I have a master spreadsheet that links to various other spreadsheet for budget figures. I have now created and updated the budgets for the 2008/09 budget year.
It is painstaking to update the links and browse to the new files one at a time and point them to their new folder. Is there a way I can update all of the link workbooks to the new directory in one fell swoop?
I have a spreadsheet which is linked to several password protected spreadsheets. I have a macro which updates the links but I would like the macro to include the date that the links were last updated. Is there a code I can insert into the macro which will display the date the links were last updated?
I am creating a spreadsheet to provide to a group of about 40 people. The spreadsheet allows each member to track the referrals they receive and give. I need to plan on creating updates for the spreadsheet and want to make it so they can easily transfer their data to the most current version in the future. Here is a breakdown of the workbook:
Worksheets: Members Lists Referrals Given Referrals Received Totals Formulas
I need to copy the data that they have input from the following worksheets: Referrals Given Referrals Received
Here is a breakdown of the "Referrals Received" worksheet: A1:V4 - Data that will not change and includes many named cells A5:Nxxx - Dynamic Named Range where they input their data O5:Vxxx - Contains formulas
I need to be able to copy A5:Vxxxxx from the old workbook to the new
Some side items to note: There is VBA in the worksheet of Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) and included in the code is an Unprotect & Protect code to always keep the sheet protected
I figure whatever works for this sheet will work for all the sheets.
Currently I have two files: Samples.xls and RefSamp.xls. RefSamp.xls currently contains data from Samples.xls and Samples.xls is updated periodically. As samples.xls continually updates I would like to copy to RefSamp only the lines that have not been previously copied over (perhaps some sort of pointer to be used?)
Some of the lines from Samples.xls are removed and/or edited after I have them in RefSamp, which is why I do not wish to copy all the data over each time.
I have a workbook I update from numerous sources every day. A few months ago I noticed some of my formatting started to disappear - a couple of borders were missing. a day or two later a couple of cells which had color were no longer colored. number formatting reverted to general so my percentages just showed up as decimals and my dollar values no longer had a $ or commas. Eventually - over the course of several weeks - all formatting in the document was completely gone. A couple of times throughout this process I tried replacing all the formatting, but as soon as I'd save the file, close it and open it back up whatever formatting related changes I had made would again disappear.
Eventually I went back a couple months and pulled an old file which still had its formatting and updated that instead. This worked fine... for about 2 months. three days ago I started noticing the same issues - a few borders disappeared in the file. two days ago a few more borders were gone and a couple of cells lost their color. yesterday and today it has gradually gotten worse again.
I am using the following macro code on a protected unshared workbook used by multiple users across an intranet and am trying to implement 2 additions to the macro 1. Disable the startup Autoclose message text box for users who open the file using 'Read Only' or 'Notify'.
2. Change the code so that the ShutDown clock resets itself if the mouse is moved, a new cell is selected, a new worksheet is selected, or a new workbook is selected. Basically, I want to keep the workbook open for any sort of user activity.
The problem I am running into is that the workbook will still autoclose on a user who is simply tabbing between workbooks to view data, or simply using the mouse to select new cells.
I want to close a spreadsheet on a timed event. i can manage the timed close but i need to reset the timer if any action occurs. I have attached what i have so far...
I have seen a number of discussions on this subject. I used Roy's code posted here and wanted to make a small change. I want to give the user a warning msg, few minutes before the autoclose would be scheduled to occur. This would give the user a chance to change cell selction or do somethig to reset the timer. If the message goes unanswered, the autoclose should occur as scheduled.
I am attaching a workbook with the macros installed in workbook, standard module and worksheet.
It dosn't seem to do what I want. It seems to work, but it acts differently everytime I run it.
Can someone please look at the attached workbook and help me fix it?
I have two wide screens, and I stretch excel over both of them to gain the most useable space. Sometimes I save a file while it's on the right screen. This causes problems for my boss, because she opens the file on her computer and it opens offscreen way to the right. I could have sworn there was a setting in excel to save or not save the workbook's window position, but now I can't find it.
I have a userform with several buttons on, each doing seperate tasks, three of the buttons however are used to load a workbook stored elsewhere in our central data storage drive. Loading these workbooks is not the problem, the problem is when loading these they load up behind the userform and not in a new window.
I am having rows of data, that i will be updating from time to time. I want excel to move the latest updated rows, in any column if updated, to move to the top, to easiy know that i updated those records. It should be that when i updated more rows than one, then the first updated cell would be in lower, in order, than the latest updated cells. I do not want any cumbersome vba. I want in formula or in conditional formatting. The row no may be total not limited to some rows.
Because, you naturally would have updated the 200 th record and would have saved. It saved as it is, so when you next opens it it is there, but how can i know that that is the last row of data i edited.
Everytime I open a Shared Workbook my OPTIONS get changed and my excel tasks in my start bar and consolidated. Is there a way to prevent that?
As of now I have to keep going through Tools>Options>Show Windows in Taskbar
Macro's aren't allowed in shared workbooks - so what are other options? I would want the same for anyone who opens the file, so a local fix on my machine won't be enough.
I compared data between excel worksheets all the time, well recently my computer was upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and since then I have not been able to figure out how to have an Excel file to open in the Excel window selected(or last active window) when I have more than one workbook open. Is there a way to do this?
I have a workbook with multiple sheets. I would like to protect both the structure and window, but when I do this the sheet tabs are no longer visible when I reopen the workbook.
I was just wondering if it possible to create a macro that permanently increases the height of a workbook by a set increment
I have several workbooks that i have the code below assigned to
[Code] ......
So when they open they resize to that set size and position. and what ive been doing if i need to resize (which is often) is just adjust the values in the above code.
Not that the way ive been doing it is difficult but i was thinking how great it would be if i could have a macro i could run that permanently adds 9 to the .Height and subtracts 9 from the .Top
I have a workbook linked to another one. When I try to change the links to another book, I get a message ' the cell orchart your are trying to change is protected and therefore read only". I have checked and doubled checked and cannot find any worksheet that is protected. How can I find the problem cell or change the link to another book? I have the password but cannot find the worksheet?
I have a workbook with a few worksheets. In sheet1 I have a few ranges which are linked to different parts in the other excel sheets.
Is there anyway to check if a range is being used as a link in another sheet.
Eg.
In sheet1 , A1 i have a value Apple.
In sheet2, A1 I have linked it to sheet1 A1.
is it possible to detect the link in sheet2 A1 from Sheet1 A1? I tried using Trace dependents but all it shows me is the link symbol? An arrow with a small excel sheet.
I have a workbook with a ton of links to other tabs, but all links and tabs are within the workbook (none to other documents). I've found that a lot of the links are no longer working. This document is only a month old, so it's not outdated or anything. i find myself having to go back and re-link everything. This is a big file...i understand if i have to re-link everything once, but i'm worried that the links will "break" again.
does anyone know why these links within a workbook are not working? is it something i have to fix in the Options?
Somehwere in a review of your book, it referred to an add-in that attempts to break all links to a workbook. I looked on the site (microsoft) with the provided URL but could not find it. Is it still there? Does it work for EXCEL 2002?
I want to move the workbook I have created to a different folder on the same drive. The workbook is pretty big and has loads of links to other workbooks. If I move it will all of these links fail and if so will I have to manually reset them all? I guess I am asking if there is specific method of moving workbooks which will automatically change the links to the cope with the new location?
I have a workbook that has many cells that link to a server on the other side of the planet. If I manually open this workbook I get the "This workbook contains links to other data sources." And the option to "Update" or "Don't Update"
If I choose to not update, everything works great. If I choose to update, the worksheet takes 10-15 minutes to open. I have tried to go to tools-->options-->Edit and uncheck "ask to update automatic links" but this makes the default behavior updating. I want to open this workbook using a scheduled task and a batch file, and have it not update, and then run a macro. Any suggestions on how to do this?
I am working with a workbook, which has links pointing to many other workbooks. Many a times, I need to open the source workbook to verify whether the source data is correct. It takes a long time to open the other files and locate the exact cell. Following is an example of the links in the workbook.
Some cells are linked to the sheets in the same workbook. I know that I can use Excel's audit function, but I found that it doesn't work well when the formula referes to other workbooks. Therefore I want to design a macro, which will land me to source cells. The macro needs to analyse the link; open the workbook to which the link refers; and find the correct cell in that workbook. If the link refers to a worksheet in the same workbook, then it should not open that workbook again. I don't know, how to use a link like the one given above, and analyse it using VBA to decide whether it needs to open another workbook.
I am new in VBA, but I have a short procedure to break all external links in the currently active workbook. Is there any option to firstly update all external links and only then break them?
Sub BreakLinks() Dim Links As Variant Dim i As Integer With ActiveWorkbook Links = .LinkSources(xlExcelLinks) If Not IsEmpty(Links) Then For i = 1 To UBound(Links)
I have a workbook that links out to numerous other workbooks for current data. After one of the supporting workbooks gets up dated, I return to the master workbook.
Here, I need to see the updated results. The only way that I can find a way of updating the master is to close and save it and then re-open.
Is there a way of updating the master workbook using a macro?
I've recorded a Get External Data macro and wish to modify source and destination components. I would like to replace the absolute link to the file name with a variable and the Destination range to the active cell at the time I run the macro.
This is the is the macro code line that handles the source and destination components I want to modify.
Range("AQ2").Select With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _ "TEXT;C:filename.csv", Destination:=Range("AQ2"))
I am having a workbook in server, it consists more than 12 sheets. Everyday in the early morning it need to be get updated, (i.e) normally when i open the file, it as for the Password (password for workbook), then after I given it will show three buttons Update Don't Update Help, so i need to press the Update Button , it should be done everyday in the early moring.
Is there any way to do this automatically open and update and close everday through vba code or anyother ways.
I have a macro where I try to edit the links after I open the workbook. I used the macro recorder to get the code, and if I use it, it works great. However, when I try to insert some variables in the code, I get an error saying "Method 'ChangeLink' of object'_Workbook' failed. I don't know why I'm getting this error. Below is code.
Sub MyCode
Dim VarianceMonth As Variant VarianceMonth = VarianceReport.cboMonth.ListIndex + 1
I am try to copy a worksheet "exactly" from one workbook to another, i.e. all formulas and range names reference the new workbook and not link back to to the workbook they were copied from. The code below brings the formulas and named ranges over still referencing the source workbook: SourceWB.Sheets(sht).Copy after:=TargetWB.Sheets(sht)
