COUNTIF Based On Left 7 Characters Of Item Matched In Range?
Feb 28, 2012
I have the following formula which doesn't work:
=COUNTIF(LEFT(proposedenter,7),LEFT(F127,7))
proposedenter is just a named range. I can see this is wrong but how do I base the count criteria on the left 7 characters of an item that is matched in the range?

I am using a vlookup and have a problem. I am assigning a category to an item number based on the first two characters of the item number. For example item number 60123 would equal scrap because of the first two characters of 60. But the item number can begin with either a number or letter. Here is the formula I am using that works for item numbers that begin with numbers:
=VLOOKUP(VALUE(LEFT(E2,2)),Sheet3!A:B,2,FALSE)
It works fine until I reach a item number that begins with a letter, then I get the dreaded #Value error. If I take the value out of the formula then it works for the letter based number items but not for the number based item numbers.

I need to compare column A of Original.test worksheet to column A of Supplier.test worksheet. If there is a match then copy entire row of the corresponding match from Original.test to Matched worksheet. If no match then copy that row into OnlyInOriginal worksheet.
I have included the workbook and what the output should be. Hope it makes sense. ozgrid.xlsx

I need method, using a button, that looks at a cell--say EO2, for example--, looks back on a master worksheet at a specified row and range for a match, then looks at the information from a specified range below the matching cell (The information in this column will either be blank or have an "X" in the cell), and then those rows that do not have an "X" will be hidden in the corresponding rows in the working worksheet. Therefore, if at any time the value in "EO2" ever changes, then it will automatically find a new match and repopulate and hide information as before. About 130 columns will have its own button so that a "query" can be made that depends on the information in a particular cell in that column.
The master worksheet now has matrix of 287 rows and 58 columns. Each row is for an operating procedure and each column shows a job code. An "X" in a coordinate cell for a column/row shows whether that job code is responsible for knowing that operating procedure. So, on the working sheet, an employee's primary job code is given underneath his or her name. When the button is pushed, all the operating procedures not required for a given person will be hidden and only the required ones will remain visible--grouped, if you will. Qualification dates will be easier to see now that the information is consolidated. Whenever someone transfers to a new position, a new code will be inputed on the working sheet. When the button is pushed, a new grouping will result. Any operating instructions that overlap will still have qualification dates, so that information will not need to be transcribed.

I would like to calculate how many A* grades are in a class, however, I need to use the left function as well. The grades in column A vary from A*, B+, C-, E etc (A2:A47)
I first have got rid of the "+ and -" as I don't need these and have kept the "*" as this is needed. I have done this using the formula
=LEFT(A1,1)&IF(MID(A1,2,1)="*","*","")
However, what I now need to do is make a calculation at the end of column A to work out the number of "A*", "A", "B" etc
How do I combine a COUNT IF with this left formula

How to track the value of last item in CountIf and work backwards? I am trying to do inventory valuation at the end of the month. For example I have 7 purchases in a month for 1000 units in each purchase order, my on hand inventory is 1500 units. from the purchase details I did a countif to tell me there are 7 PO's in a month for the item, but if i want to find how much each units costed starting from last PO in the CountIf is there a way to pull that number? I have total purchase amount by PO & quantity by PO also in separate columns, so I know cost per unit in each PO but can't figure out how to go backwards (starting from last in)

I have a series of alpha numerics items in Cells A1:A999 (i.e AB0001 to AB0999). I need to be able to perform a search the range (A1:A999), and extract items that do not conform to the standard AB prefix. Example, an item of BC0001 could be present in the range. I would need to have that item, either highlighted or displayed in a different column.

how to set up a formula that would count the number of numbers in a column, only if the cells before those cells are blank. In plain English: total the number of occurences in each column, provided the value in cellrow is the first occurence in that row starting at column A. E.G
A
B
C
D
John
x
x
Dave
x
x
Kyle
x
x
Bob
x
x
Count would return under Column A, 1; under Column B, 1; (because row John has a value in AJohn it is ignored), under Column C, 2; under Column D, 0.

I need VBA coding that starts in a cell, moves 5 columns to the left, and then copies the left 8 characters of the string. The Macro should end there, but I'm hoping to be able to then paste those 8 characters elsewhere, say a different programme or web page.
I can move the cell no problem:
ActiveCell.Offset(0, -5).Select
But how to then copy those left 8 characters so it stays in the clipboard at the end of the macro?
The formula needs to be non-cell specific, i.e. I need to use the above selection and NOT a cell name such as A5 etc.

I am attempting to utilize the Mid, Left, and Right functions to parse out data returned in a single cell. There are twelve months of data returned with the "title" listed after. I would like to be able to FIND the title and return a specific number of characters of data to the LEFT not the right (as Mid seems to do).
EX.
Cell A1{ 1 2 4 5 3 5 TITLE1 1 2 3 6 7 4 5 TITLE2 3 4 5 2 4 5 TITLE 4 }
Cell A2{ 1 2 4 5 3 5 TITLE2 1 2 3 6 7 4 5 TITLE3 3 4 5 2 4 5 TITLE 4 }
I would like to be able to search each cell for the "TitleX" then parse data out to the left of that title (and if not found, return "").
There are too many different Titles to use IF statements and I cannot change that the data comes to the left of the title.

1 2 C 3 4
1 2 3 C 4
1 2 3 4 C
I have been using the match function to find the location of C, but I want to output the items in the same row as C, in the order they appear if C was removed.

I am using (in Column "B") the formula: =IF(A2=A3."",1), copied down as required, to uniquely identify entries in Column "A". In this instance "10", "10A", "10B" and "10C" located in "A5" through "A11" are viewed as the same. Is it possible to have the formula recognize the enties in "A5:A11" as a unique entry and therfore have "1" entered into cell "B11"? The suffix, if used will always be A thorugh Z.

ID, Name, Gender, and Age.
I enter the data in sheet “DB” and I want to retrieve the data in sheet “Report”. I want to lookup the data range for each ID listed in Column A and retrieve all data from the matching row in a report form/look.
I have tried to use the vLookup formula, but when defining the range of the column (A2:A), it would return “0”. When defining only the range that contains data, it displays the correct information....

I've got a long list of account numbers of varying length and ultimately need to add a dash and a dot into these numbers. Here's an example
12345678 to> 1-2345.678
123456789 to> 12-3456.789
1234567890 to> 123-4567.890
The standard format is always 3 numbers after the . and 4 numbers between the - and .
I can get to this by doing a series of functions starting with this:
=LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-3)&"."&RIGHT(A1,3) to get 12345.678 or 123456.789
copy/pasting that value into another field and then doing this
=LEFT(E1,LEN(E1)-8)&"-"&RIGHT(E1,8) to get the results above
I can't quite figure out the format to combine the multiple steps/functions into one so that I'm not copy/pasting values and re-doing the function.

I have two comboboxs on a userform, both are populated like this:
(ComboBox1 is a different sheet/column)
' Sets Remarks in ComboBox4 Contents
With Worksheets("Data")
Set rng = . Range(.Cells(1, "C"), .Cells(Rows.Count, "C").End(xlUp))
End With
With ComboBox4
.RowSource = rng.Address(external:=True)
End With
The function is that ComboBox1 will populate the names on lets say Sheet1, Column A, and when selected will populate by offset all the other Textboxs, and ComboBoxs.
Textbox1 is a date
ComboBox4 is populated off of items from the data sheet
ComboBox1 is populated off of sheet1 and provides names, then fills the userform fields
In populating the Userform, it fills Combobox4.value by the offset value of the selected name.
That cell does not contain the same info that was loaded into the ComboBox initally, and it does not show it. All other ComboBox entries match preloaded values, and show.
How do I get the ComboBox to display what is in the OffSet cell value, rather than blank because its different?

Here is my spreadsheet
A B C D 1 Matt 5 4 75 2 Joe 25 23 66 3 Ron 31 33 82 4 Jim 22 45 91 5 Steve 99 100 11
I used the large function to find the top 5 greatest numbers. I have them ranked in another area below the first set of numbers.
100
99
91
82
75
I need to find some sort of formula to return the name for the appropriate number. For example, I need the cell immediately to the right of 100 to return Steve; 99 to say Steve; 91 to say Jim. The INDEX/MATCH formulas used for left lookups works only for a column. I would have to set the index/match formula individually for each column to the right of the top 5 numbers, and that defeats the purpose. I might as well just find the numbers and connect the names all by hand.
